Spain: Muslims sue teacher for speaking about ham in class

Spanish ham (absolutely offensive to "Ham-o-phobic" Muslims...)

According to the account of the facts, the teacher was explaining the different climates in a geography class and cited the village of Trevelez due to its cold and dry climate. According to the newspaper account, "as a story, the teacher told his students that such a climate was conducive to making hams (this refers to the procedure that it's necessary between the pig is killed and the ham is actually ready to be eaten). Then the student asked the teacher not to speak of hams since it offended him, because he was a Muslim. "

The teacher told the students that in his classes, he did not consider the religion of their students, but apparently the family did not stay at home when they learned the facts, to the extent that they went to the National Police to file a complaint without speaking in advance with the teacher.

According to "El Diario de Cádiz", the teacher "is accused of being the author of an alleged crime of abuse of workers, also alleging racist and xenophobic motives. " His school colleagues can't believe what has happened and speak about the impeccable record of teaching reported.
Well, I can of course, believe it... and they are absolutely insane. Ham is basic food in Spain. If they don't like it, they have the frontier open to get back where it's forbidden...

Spielberg was target of an Arab League boycott

Wikileaks has revealed another thing that isn't too surprising, but is nevertheless disturbing:
Steven Spielberg was blacklisted by the Arab League's Central Boycott Office after making a $1m (£645m) donation to Isreal during the 2006 conflict in Lebanon.

A US embassy memo released by WikiLeaks reveals that during a meeting of the group in April 2007, diplomats or representatives from 14 Arab states voted to ban all films and other products related to Spielberg or his Righteous Persons Foundation.

At the confidential US briefing, the head of the Syrian regional office for the boycott of Israel, Muhammad al-Ajami, said that Algeria, Iraq, Lebanon, Kuwait, Libya, Morocco, the Palestinian Authority, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, the United Arab Emirates and Yemen had agreed to ban all Spielberg's works.

Malaysia, Iran, Pakistan and Indonesia were also present at the meeting and voted in favour of the boycott. The memo from the US embassy in Damascus to Washington says that "they and other countries will likely implement their own bans" similar to that adopted by the Arab states.

At the same meeting, cosmetics giant Estée Lauder was added to the blacklist while financial services behemoth Merrill Lynch was placed on a "watchlist".
Wow, even after he kowtowed to the Islamic entity with Munich, they still don't care? But if Spielberg is continuing to associate himself with George Soros, who may have bought his Dreamworks SKG production office, not to mention Tony Kushner, whom I will NOT trust to do a good job on their planned Lincoln movie, then I can't feel too sorry for him.

I do know that if I were a showbiz worker, I wouldn't mind too much if they wanted to boycott my works, since I don't endeavor to please such tyrants, though it would still be offensive.

Nof Zion must not be allowed to fall into PA hands

A neighborhood in Jerusalem is under threat of being sold to a Fatah sympathiser, with the help of one of Ariel Sharon's assistants:
Spirited attempts are being made to prevent the Jewish neighborhood of Nof Zion in Jerusalem from falling into Arab hands.

The Digal Company that built the project, which was slated to be a religious-Zionist neighborhood, has fallen upon hard times, failing to pay its debt of nearly 60 million shekels to bond holders. The latter were made an offer of approximately 50% by a religious-Zionist real estate group known as Be’emunah (With Faith), but this was topped by an offer of approximately 60% - in cash – made by a Palestinian Authority Arab with American citizenship.

The potential Arab buyer is represented by Attorney Dov Weissglass, a former friend and advisor to ex-Prime Minister Ariel Sharon during the Disengagement period.

[...]

Yisrael Ze’ira, founder of both the Rosh Yehudi outreach organization and Be’emunah, says that his group is seeking to raise 48 million shekels with which to purchase the 15 dunams (nearly 4 acres) on which Stages II and III are to be built. “We are short just a few million,” he told Israel National News. “Those who wish to help can visit our website.” The minimum investment is 320,000 shekels (roughly $89,000) - the price, including Value Added Tax, of land for one unit. Those who invest are promised a discount in purchasing the actual apartment.

Another approach, led by Jerusalem lands reclaimer Aryeh King, is to find buyers for a total of 25% of the bonds, thus preventing the necessary majority of 76% from voting to sell the bonds to Weissglass’ Arab client. The bondholders are to convene for the vote in two weeks’ time. Though some feel this attempt could easily be challenged in court, it could buy time for the Be’emunah group to raise the necessary funds to buy the project.

King’s Jerusalem projects are featured here.

Both King and Ze’ira emphasize that the importance of their efforts cannot be overstated, both for the future of Nof Zion and for Jerusalem in its entirety.
Anyone who can offer their help will be doing a great favor for Israel.

Wikileaks: Cuba Banned Michael Moore's Film on Their Socialized Health-Care System Because it Had No Basis in Reality, Painted a "Mythical" Picture

Though I do not agree with Julian Assange, you gotta admit, Wikileaks is the gift that keeps on giving.

From Weasel Snippers:
(Guardian) — Cuba banned Michael Moore’s 2007 documentary, Sicko, because it painted such a “mythically” favourable picture of Cuba’s healthcare system that the authorities feared it could lead to a “popular backlash”, according to US diplomats in Havana.
The revelation, contained in a confidential US embassy cable released by WikiLeaks, is surprising, given that the film attempted to discredit the US healthcare system by highlighting what it claimed was the excellence of the Cuban system.
But the memo reveals that when the film was shown to a group of Cuban doctors, some became so “disturbed at the blatant misrepresentation of healthcare in Cuba that they left the room”.
Castro’s government apparently went on to ban the film because, the leaked cable claims, it “knows the film is a myth and does not want to risk a popular backlash by showing to Cubans facilities that are clearly not available to the vast majority of them.”
Sicko investigated healthcare in the US by comparing the for-profit, non-universal US system with the non-profit universal health care systems of other countries, including Cuba, France and the UK.
It was nominated for an Oscar for best documentary feature but was also castigated for being naive and tendentious.

Don Van Vliet aka Captain Beefheart RIP

image

Don Van Vliet, better known as Captain Beefheart has apparently died at the age of 69 after many years of rumored ill-health. I’m in shock at the moment. He was one of my greatest musical heroes and one of the most powerful and distinctive vocalist/lyricist/composers of the last century.  Play Orange Claw Hammer (below), an a capella powerhouse from Trout Mask Replica as loud as you can and know that there was a real depth of feeling in the man’s work that went beyond weirdo freakishness. Bon voyage, good captain. We’ve lost a true original.

via Rolling Stone :
Don Van Vliet, who became a rock legend as Captain Beefheart, died today from complications from multiple sclerosis in California. His passing was announced by the New York-based Michael Werner Gallery, which represented his work as a painter. His Trout Mask Replica was Number 58 on Rolling Stone’s list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. “Don Van Vliet was a complex and influential figure in the visual and performing arts,” the gallery said in a statement. “He is perhaps best known as the incomparable Captain Beefheart who, together with his Magic Band, rose to prominence in the 1960s with a totally unique style of blues-inspired, experimental rock & roll. This would ultimately secure Van Vliet’s place in music history as one of the most original recording artists of his time. After two decades in the spotlight as an avant-garde composer and performer, Van Vliet retired from performing to devote himself wholeheartedly to painting and drawing. Like his music, Van Vliet’s lush paintings are the product of a truly rare and unique vision.” Van Vliet leaves behind a wife, Jan. The two were married for more than 40 years.

WikiLeaks: Obama Told by American Diplomats Geert Wilders is “No Friend of The US”

From Weasel Zippers:
(Dutch News)- Geert Wilders is a ‘golden-pompadoured, maverick’ who is ‘no friend of the US’, according to a briefing document on Dutch politics for US president Barack Obama, put together in July 2009.
The document, published by whistleblower website Wikileaks and hosted by the Guardian, was drawn up by US diplomats to brief Obama ahead of his meeting with the then prime minister Jan Peter Balkenende.
In the document, the US official states: ‘Wilders is no friend of the US: he opposes Dutch military involvement in Afghanistan; he believes development assistance is money wasted; he opposes NATO missions outside ‘allied’ territory; he is against most EU initiatives; and, most troubling, he forments fear and hatred of immigrants.’ .
Other documents which mention Wilders look at preparations to combat the effect of his anti-Koran film Fitna prior to its release in 2008.

ITNews:

UN mulls internet regulation options
By John Hilvert on Dec 17, 2010

WikiLeaks sparks push for tighter controls.
The United Nations is considering whether to set up an inter-governmental working group to harmonise global efforts by policy makers to regulate the internet.

Establishment of such a group has the backing of several countries, spearheaded by Brazil.

At a meeting in New York on Wednesday, representatives from Brazil called for an international body made up of Government representatives that would to attempt to create global standards for policing the internet - specifically in reaction to challenges such as WikiLeaks.

The Brazilian delegate stressed, however, that this should not be seen as a call for an "takeover" of the internet.

India, South Africa, China and Saudi Arabia appeared to favour a new possible over-arching inter-government body.

However, Australia, US, UK, Belgium and Canada and attending business and community representatives argued there were risks in forming yet another working group that might isolate itself from the industry, community users and the general public.

"My concern is that if we were to make a move to form a governmental-only body then that would send a very strong signal to civil society that their valuable contribution was not required or was not being looked for," an un-named Australian representative told the meeting.

Debate on the creation of a new inter-governmental body stemmed from a UN Economic and Social Council resolution 2010/2 of 19 July.

The resolution invited the UN Secretary-General "to convene open and inclusive consultations involving all Member States and all other stakeholders with a view to assisting the process towards enhanced cooperation in order to enable Governments on an equal footing to carry out their roles and responsibilities in respect of international public policy issues pertaining to the Internet but not of the day-to-day technical and operational matters that do not impact upon those issues."

Much debate concerned the meaning of "enhanced cooperation" and whether a new inter-governmental body was required. Participants also debated the roles of existing organisations - such as the Internet Governance Forum, ICANN and the ITU.

The IGF - an organisation that informs the UN but makes no decisions - is running close to the end of a five-year mandate, due to expire at ?the end of the year.

The likes of ISOC, ICANN and more recently the World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA) have recently expressed concerns [PDF]? that a working panel to decide on the future of the IGF has been limited to representatives from member-states.

"Australia is a very strong supporter of the Internet Governance Forum," the unidentified Australian UN representative said at the New York meeting this week. "That is very much due to the multi-stake-holder approach of the IGF. It is an inclusive process."

Australia's Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy said that Australian Government welcomed the resolution of the Second Committee of the United Nation General Assembly (UNGA) to extend the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) for a further five years.

The DBCDE said it would like to see the organisation retain an open and participatory membership.

"Australia has always supported the participation of civil society and the private sector in the IGF and regards their participation as being integral to the IGF's success," a spokesman told iTnews.

Napolitano Says DHS to Begin Battling Climate Change as Homeland Security Issue
Friday, December 17, 2010
By J. Brady Howell

(CNSNews.com) -- At an all-day White House conference on "environmental justice," Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano announced that her department is creating a new task force to battle the effects of climate change on domestic security operations.

Speaking at the first White House Forum on Environmental Justice on Thursday, Napolitano discussed the initial findings of the department’s recently created "Climate Change and Adaptation Task Force."

Napolitano explained that the task force was charged with “identifying and assessing the impact that climate change could have on the missions and operations of the Department of Homeland Security.”

According to the former Arizona governor, the task force would address specific questions, including:

“How will FEMA work with state and local partners to plan for increased flooding or wildfire or hurricane activity that is more serious than we’ve seen before? What assistance can the Coast Guard bring to bear to assist remote villages in, for example, Alaska which already have been negatively affected by changes up in the Arctic?”

The findings from the Homeland Security Department (DHS) also asked: “(H)ow can we focus on how climate change is going to affect our rural citizenry including those who live along our boarders both northern and southern?”

Napolitano did not elaborate on the new task force and the Department of Homeland Security has yet to respond to requests by CNSNews.com for additional information on the task force.

The conference did not define “environmental justice,” and the only reference to the task force that can be found is on the DHS Web site. The June 2010 Department of Homeland Security Strategic Sustainability Performance Plan states “climate change has the potential to accelerate and intensify extreme weather events which threaten the nation’s sustainability and security.”

This plan also noted: “Many USCG [Coast Guard] and Customs and Border Protection facilities, by their mission, are located in the coastal zone which will be adversely impacted by sea level rise. Costs will increase for protecting existing facilities from the impacts of sea level rise and some facilities might have to be abandoned in the longer term.”

The all day White House Forum on Environmental Justice also included talks by White House Council on Environmental Quality Chair Nancy Sutley, EPA Administrator Lisa P. Jackson, Attorney General Eric Holder, Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar, Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis, and Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius.

Of Mandates and Minarets

Guest Commentary by Edward Cline:

On December 13, in Richmond, Virginia, U.S. District Judge Henry E. Hudson ruled that a key provision of the Patient Protection Affordable Care Act of 2010 (Obamacare or “ACA”) was unconstitutional.

It was purely symbolic, and did not attack the central premise of federal powers. It was tantamount to Switzerland banning further construction of minarets over mosques, or to France banning head and face coverings. Those actions leave Islam untouched. The political/theocratic ideology is still there, undeterred, viral as ever, intent on taking over those countries and converting them to Islamic states.

Likewise, Hudson’s ruling does not fundamentally challenge Obamacare. It does not challenge the power of Congress to propose such a law, let alone leave to pass it and the power of the president to enact it with his signature. It could be interpreted as a mortal blow to Obamacare, that part of it which compels Americans to purchase health care insurance, that is, to “engage in commerce” so that the government may regulate it. Theoretically, the voiding of the mandate could lead to the inevitable unraveling and disintegration of the scheme. Republicans have vowed to have it repealed. But one must not count on any justice or politician setting that phenomenon in motion. The socialists who advocated, wrote, and passed the law still intend to see it implemented. The Washington Post reported:
Hudson sided with Virginia, finding that "an individual's personal decision to purchase - or decline to purchase - health insurance from a private provider is beyond the historical reach of the Commerce Clause" and that the mandate "is neither within the letter nor the spirit of the Constitution." The judge also sided with Virginia on a secondary argument, that the law's fine for people who refuse to buy coverage is a penalty not a tax and thus illegal.

However, the judge did not take two important actions that Virginia had sought. He ruled that the unconstitutionality of the mandate did not spill over to the rest of the law. And he did not grant an injunction, which would have halted the government's work to implement the law, reasoning that none of those steps "are irreversible" because most provisions do not go into effect until 2014.
But neither the Thirteenth nor the Seventeenth Amendment to the Constitution is within “letter” or the “spirit of the Constitution,” either. The one sanctions the taking by the federal government of private property with commensurate penalties if it is not “voluntarily” surrendered, while the other reduces the Senate to a popularly elected adjunct of the House of Representatives (instead of serving as a buffer against populist or democratic mob rule, as it was originally intended).

If the mandate is considered unconstitutional, then the unconstitutional elements of force and of penalty for not conforming to the ends of that force should naturally “spill over to the rest of the law.” It is illogical to think that the balance of the law remains untouched and sacrosanct, just as it is illogical to contend that removing a man’s heart will not result in his death. Obamacare relies on legalized force. That is the heart of Obamacare.

But Judge Hudson deftly did not “go there,” that is, challenge the police powers which the federal and state governments already employ to raise revenue and regulate property and actions. He did not challenge the “implied powers” of the federal government, which allow it to exercise powers not enumerated in the Constitution, nor the “necessary and proper” clause of Article One, on which Kathleen Sebelius, Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, defends Obamacare’s alleged constitutionality (as a matter of “tradition”), on three or four other arguments based on the General Welfare and Commerce clauses in her motion to dismiss Virginia Attorney General Kenneth T. Cuccinelli’s suit, which was filed shortly after in March shortly after President Barack Obama signed it into law.
"Without everyone in the health insurance market, costs will increase, people with preexisting conditions will continue to be shut out of coverage, and insured Americans will continue paying for those who don't get coverage," said Kathleen Sebelius, secretary of health and human services.
This is “spreading the wealth around.” You are your neighbor’s keeper. And it will take force to ensure that you take care of him, preexisting conditions or not.

Was Judge Hudson’s ruling an instance of evading the fundamental argument, or an instance of his not knowing what that argument ought to have been? Either way, his ruling is an instance of not thinking and acting in principles. To wit:
The insurance mandate is central to the law’s mission of covering more than 30 million people who are uninsured. Insurers argue that only by requiring healthy people to have policies can they afford to pay for those with expensive conditions. But Judge Hudson ruled that many of the law’s other provisions could be severed legally and would survive even if the mandate is invalidated [by the Supreme Court].
One cannot count on the Supreme Court to concur with Judge Hudson’s ruling, nor to recognize how inadequate his reasoning is. The Court is not governed by reason, either. Witness its concurrences with the legality of eminent domain in the Kelo case, recently in the Atlantic Yards case, and most recently in the Columbia University case, all of which sanctioned the taking of private property for the benefit of private interests in conjunction with local governments’ claims of reviving “blighted” areas to generate greater tax revenues than they got from existing property owners.

In the latter case, for example, the Empire State Development Corporation coerced or intimidated New York City property owners into selling their economically viable property and then allowed the abandoned property to become “blighted,” in order to compel the last holdouts to sell out or see their property arbitrarily condemned. Columbia University, not a litigant in the case but which wanted the land to expand on, was merely the government’s silent partner in the taking.

Judge Hudson wrote in his ruling that allowing the mandate to stand “would invite unbridled exercise of federal police powers.” But the Supreme Court and lesser courts have not served as a consistent and reliable “bridle” on those powers. The government, especially under Obama’s administration, has run amok. Where has Hudson been while Congress has passed legislation that regulates farms, travel, diet, speech, manufacturing, and so on, all requiring federal “police powers”?

Observe, for example, Obama’s cemented mindset, one that is anchored in force. In a Washington Post article, “Mandatory health insurance now law’s central villain,” Obama’s “contradictory” positions are highlighted:
As a candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination, Obama insisted that the health-care reform plans of his rivals were misguided, because they envisioned forcing Americans to buy health insurance or risk a fine. Over and over, he said on the campaign trail that such a mandate was unnecessary.

"My belief is - is that if we make [insurance] affordable, if we provide subsidies to those who can't afford it, they will buy it," Obama put it during a January 2008 debate in Los Angeles against fellow candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton, who favored a mandate.
Subsidies, provided how and by whom? By the federal government with taxpayer money. That is, by force. Now, after the element of force has been questioned by a federal court, Obama defends the mandate. In fact, he adopted Cllinton’s “It Takes a Village” or “no-uninsured-person-left-behind” policy soon after being sworn into office. “Universal health insurance” means – everyone, with no exceptions (except congressmen and federal employees). That policy requires force. Kathleen Sebelius says so.
Obama embraced the mandate after he moved into the White House and placed an overhaul of the nation's health system at the top of his domestic agenda. Eager to avoid the strategy that had helped doom President Clinton’s health reform efforts of the 1990s, the White House refrained from producing a detailed road map, deferring to Democrats in Congress to write a plan. House and Senate Democrats preferred the idea of an insurance mandate, to take effect in 2014, and the president went along.
No, Obama did not “go along” with the mandate. That was his intention from the beginning. His campaign rhetoric was framed to disguise his socialist agenda and his talent for dissimulation. His past, his political record and his behavior since assuming office confirm it. Only a one-eyed man in a country of the blind would claim that he just “went along.” And Obama is that one-eyed man.

Has it ever occurred to the advocates of mandated health insurance that those who "lack" it do not want it? Or that those who "can't afford" it cannot because they are taxed up to their earlobes? No, these possibilities have not occurred to our "guardians." Choice, volition, values other than insurance, and being impoverished by federal and state taxes are not in the statist manual of “public options.” Universal health insurance and care are “offers” one is not allowed to refuse.

Attorney General Cuccinelli was “elated” with the ruling.
“This case is not about health insurance, it is not about health care,” Mr. Cuccinelli said at a news conference in Richmond. “It is about liberty.”
No, it should be about questioning the government’s power to become master of all it surveys. The force behind the minarets has not been repudiated. The mandate has not been refuted. It has simply been temporarily checked. The principle behind liberty – that one owns one’s own life, and that one’s life is not dependent on the sanction of the government or society – requires that it be applied universally, not on a case-by-case, piecemeal policy that ignores the usurpation of liberty in all other realms.

The absence of minarets does not mean that Muslims have stopped beating their wives or waging jihad.

NOW goes after Hooters for catering to kids

Friday, December 17, 2010

The National Organization for Women filed complaints against local Hooters restaurants Thursday, but not for exploiting its scantily clad waitresses by subjecting them to leering and groping customers.

The subject this time was Hooters' catering to children.

The restaurants in San Francisco, San Bruno, Sacramento and Orange County are classified as "adult entertainment" establishments but also serve minors, NOW's California chapter said in papers filed with police and prosecutors.

What's more, the organization said, Hooters provides child menus, high chairs and booster seats, and sells T-shirts in children's sizes that identify the wearer as a "Future Hooters Girl."

Patricia Bellasalma, NOW's California president, asserted that Hooters is violating state and local laws prohibiting sexually oriented "adult" businesses from serving minors. The chain is also violating federal employment standards, she said.

Bellasalma said the federal government has not subjected Hooters to the rules requiring employers to protect their workers from harassment by customers. The Atlanta restaurant chain has successfully argued that its employees know they will be working in sexually charged surroundings, Bellasalma said.

But in recent years, she said, the company has promoted itself as more family-friendly. She cited a statement on hooters.com that "10 percent of the parties we serve have children in them."

"If they want to switch and turn the chain into a family-style restaurant, more power to them," but Hooters would then have to follow the same anti-harassment rules as other restaurants, Bellasalma said.

Hooters representatives were unavailable for comment. The company's website said the chain "does not market itself to families, but they do patronize the restaurants." It said Hooters serves all customers, including children.

The website also said Hooters has a long-standing policy "forbidding unwelcome physical or verbal behavior" and has faced only a "limited number" of sexual harassment suits.

NKorea Says to Strike South If Drill Goes Ahead
Friday, 17 Dec 2010

SEOUL/BEIJING - North Korea said on Friday it would strike again at the South if a live-firing drill by Seoul on a disputed island went ahead, with an even stronger response than last month's shelling that killed four people.

The announcement on North Korean official news agency KCNA came as South Korea readied for firing drills on Yeonpyeong island near a disputed maritime border with the North for the first time since November's exchange of artillery fire.

"The strike will play out a more serious situation than on Nov. 23 in terms of the strength and scope of the strike," KCNA said.

A leading South Korean defence analyst said he doubted the North would carry out its threat, which rattled financial markets, and South Korea's Defence Ministry said the drill planned for Dec. 18-21 would go ahead.

The North had said its November shelling was a response to South Korean "provocations" after an artillery battery on the island fired in what Seoul said was a routine drill.

North Korea's warning came after Seoul promised a more robust response to any further attacks on its territory. The shelling of the island was the first time since the Korean war that the North had attacked South Korean territory.

"They would have to be committing to a full-out war if they did that (struck again)," said Baek Seung-joo of the Korea Institute for Defense Analyses, an expert on North Korea's military strategy.

"What's likely is they will do something as a face-saving action, such as firing their own artillery near the disputed waters," he said.

The won fell slightly in offshore forward trading against the dollar, with the 1-month non-deliverable dollar/won forwards rising to as high as 1,159 soon after the news broke from around 1,155.

CHINA URGES U.S. TO PLAY CONSTRUCTIVE ROLE

China, the North's main backer, has said that Pyongyang had promised restraint and the threat of a new attack by the North came as China told visiting U.S. Deputy Secretary of State James Steinberg that the two big powers should cooperate more in defusing tension on the Korean peninsula.

It also came as U.S. diplomatic troubleshooter Bill Richardson visited Pyongyang in an effort to "reduce the tension on the Korean peninsula". [ID:nTOE6BG025]

China's top diplomat, Dai Bingguo, urged closer coordination over the Korean peninsula during talks with Steinberg, the second most senior official in the U.S. State Department, the state-run Xinhua news agency reported on Friday.

Steinberg was in Beijing for three days up to Friday to press China to do more to bring to heel its ally, North Korea, which last month sparked alarm by shelling the island and disclosing advances in uranium enrichment which could give it a new path to make nuclear weapons.

China has avoided publicly condemning its long-time ally over the deadly shelling and nuclear moves, and instead pleaded with other powers to embrace fresh talks with North Korea.

NORTH'S ACTIONS DESIGNED TO WIN NEGOTIATIONS

North Korea's threatened strike came as is sought the restart of six-party nuclear talks with the United States, China, South Korea, Japan and Russia.

It wants the talks to resume without preconditions, something Washington and South Korea have ruled out as they do not want to be seen to be rewarding Pyongyang for its hostile actions.

Analysts say the North uses the threat of attacks and even nuclear conflict to win concessions such as food and economic aid at talks over its nuclear stockpile.

U.S. nuclear expert Siegfried Hecker, who visited the Yongbyon reprocessing facility last month, has raised concerns that the North had alternative sites for uranium enrichment and newspapers have reported South Korean intelligence officials saying it may be readying for a third nuclear test and had three or four more uranium enrichment sites. {ID:nTOE6BD058]

At the same time as the poor, reclusive country is pushing for aid, the North is also in the throes of a potential leadership succession as ailing leader Kim Jong-il grooms his youngest son, Kim Jong-un, into the next ruler.

Kobe Bryant's deal with Turkish Airlines has angered many Armenian Americans

Bry_500
Wah, Why Me? Why are the Armenians mad at me?
Kobe Bryant's newest endorsement agreement has sparked protests and incited boycotts among Armenian Americans in Los Angeles.

He made a two-year deal with Turkish Airlines, which is trying to promote the start of nonstop flights in March from Istanbul to Los Angeles.

Some Armenian Americans have taken that as a slight, considering that, for years, Armenian Americans have pushed the U.S. to recognize the early 20th century killings of some 1.5 million Armenians in what was then the Ottoman Empire as genocide, a term the Turkish government has strenuously rejected.

California has 600,000 to 700,000 people of Armenian descent, according to Aram Hamparian, executive director of the Armenian National Committee of America.

"Many of them are fans of the Lakers and fans of Kobe, at least until now," he said.

Bryant is to be the poster boy of the campaign, his face plastered on billboards, and print, television and online ads early as next year.

Some Armenians are calling for Bryant to use his fame to push U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-San Francisco) to schedule a vote on House Resolution 252, which would recognize the Armenian deaths as genocide.

"Kobe is a champion of national basketball and should be a champion of human rights," said Casper Jivalagian, executive member of the Armenian Youth Federation's Western region. "We want to give him the benefit of the doubt and give him a chance to right this wrong."

Kobe might want to ask Lamar Odom's wife, Kourtney, and sister-in-law, Kim Kardashian, about the Armenian Genocide.

And, while he's at it, he might want to look at this picture of Kim Kardashian in the nude.

Our “Pay No Attention to that Man Behind the Curtain” Moment

From Victor Davis Hanson:
Straws and the Camel’s Back

At some point in late 2010 once optimistic independent voters, moderate Republicans, and centrist Democrats stopped listening. They abruptly concluded that their 2008 Barack Obama proved not to be the great uniter, the great communicator, and the greater humanist who was to bring the country together around “centrist” values.

At about the same time, a once ecstatic liberal base began to worry that President Obama was not the brilliant postracial social organizer, the brilliant progressive explicator, and the brilliant big government architect who would take a center-right country with him hard to the left.

Stop it, Toto!
The result has been a sort of political implosion, the proverbial “pay no attention to that man behind the curtain” moment when the omnipotent wizard’s face projected on the screen becomes exposed as a rather frightened Frank Morgan, busy with levers and gears—or, in our morality play, a deer-in-the-headlights Barack Obama relieved to sub out his White House press room to a designated president Bill Clinton at last back on his home turf.

In a number of ways, we can see how the Obama administration has been reduced to a sort of virtual administration. The messianic spell of 2008 ended with the largest midterm rebuke since 1938. Whereas in 2009 it was considered racist for a conservative to question the president’s wisdom at a Tea Party rally, by 2010 Democratic congressional representatives were vying with each other to find creative ways of using the F-word to belittle the president. Since his inauguration, the president has lost a point in the polls about every three weeks of his presidency, without much deviation.

There is little presidential stature left. When Barack Obama addresses the Sen. minority leader as “Mike” McConnell or claims the U.S. motto is e pluribus unum rather than “In God We Trust,” this is by now a non-news story—not after “57 states” or “corpse-men” or Austrian-speaking Austrians. Proclaiming that at some point individuals have made enough money raises no eyebrows either—not after “spread the wealth,” “redistributive change,” and claiming that the purpose of capital gains tax hikes was not to increase federal revenue but to ensure “fairness.” If the president were to go on another riff about “fat cat bankers,” limb-lopping surgeons, or Vegas junkets, eyes would roll—in the manner that today’s students start text messaging when their aging 60s hold-over professors keep ranting about Halliburton. Martha’s Vineyard and Costa del Sol helped see to that.
Been there, done that
An Obama speech echoing boilerplate themes such as “there are no red states, there are no blue states” today simply could not be given—the laughing in the audience would be far too much. After Eric Holder’s “cowards” outburst, the beer summit, Van Jones, the slurs against Arizona, and the video appeals targeted at particular racial groups, the public takes for granted that a Rev. Wright, the clingers speech, “typical white person,” and Michelle’s angst (e.g., “downright mean country,” “never been proud,” “raise the bar,” etc.) were disturbing premonitions rather than rightwing racialist paranoias.

For a while, “working across the aisle” delivered in mellifluous tones assured millions that their soon-to-be president had not compiled the most partisan voting record in the U.S. Senate (to the left of the nation’s only self-avowed socialist senator). Now? We yawn when Obama goes off on Republicans as “enemies” who cannot sit in the front seat of the car. Chicago-style target the enemy has gone from shocking to de rigueur to banal for this president.
Until 2008-9, the rubric $250,000 was just an arbitrary number. Now it is a sharp ethical divide in a strange new class war in which those above are veritable parasites who “do not pay their fair share”, while the 50% of the population who pay no income tax ipso facto are suddenly moral and patriotic.
In sum, no president in 78 years has done more to incite class resentment, envy, and polarization—and that fact is as shocking as the sun rising in the morning. “Oh, more of Obama’s class warfare? So what else is new?”

From Her Royal Whyness:

Imam Feisal Rauf: New York Islamic centre 'dream alive'

By Laura Trevelyan BBC News, New York
Imam Feisal Rauf Mr Rauf said the "real battle" is between moderates and radicals in all faiths
Imam Feisal Rauf, spiritual leader of a Islamic community centre with a prayer space planned for lower Manhattan, has had a turbulent 2010.
A year ago, the New York Times wrote about the now notorious proposal just around the corner from Ground Zero, the site of the 11 September 2001 attack on the World Trade Center.
"The story broke last December and nobody raised even a blip," says Mr Rauf, sitting in his office in the Interchurch Centre on Manhattan's Upper West Side. "It wasn't until the election cycle began that this became used as a wedge issue, and our story was hijacked and misrepresented and the fears of the people were whipped up."
During a febrile summer, the centre was cast as a victory mosque by its critics, and prominent Republicans including Newt Gingrich and Sarah Palin demanded it be moved.
I ask Mr Rauf whether he understands why some family members who lost their loved ones on 9/11 didn't want a representation of Islam nearby.

  • Several hundred yards from Ground Zero
  • In site of former clothing retailer
  • 13-storey cultural centre including mosque
  • Money yet to be raised for building to start
"The feelings of the 9/11 families is something I am very sensitive to," the imam replies. "I have been a member of this community for 27 years, and Muslims died on 9/11, Muslims were responders, we are as much part of the story of 9/11, and we have to be part of the healing and part of the solution."
'No misunderstanding' Michael Burke, whose brother Bill, a firefighter, was killed on 9/11, is one of a group of relatives who strongly object to Mr Rauf's planned Islamic centre.
Mr Burke says it's offensive to have a reminder of the religion used to justify his brother's murder so close to the place where he died. But he also objects to the imam's belief that the community centre will help bridge the divide between Muslims and the West.
"This implies that 9/11 was a misunderstanding," he says. "9/11 was not a misunderstanding, it was an attack."
Image of the Ground Zero layout
Three months after emotional protests both for and against the Islamic centre on the anniversary of 9/11, a lone policeman stands guard outside 51 Park Place. It's the only indication that this isn't just another dilapidated building in lower Manhattan awaiting development. So when will the $120m (£77m) community centre be built?

Start Quote

We're committed to the path we're on right now, so the argument about location is a specious one”
End Quote Imam Feisal Rauf
"The dream is still alive, the intention is still there," Mr Rauf affirms. "Even if we had all the money today it would be at least two to three years until groundbreaking, then once you finalize your plans, another two or three years to build it."
The decision by the developers behind the project to apply for a $5m federal grant reserved for the redevelopment of lower Manhattan has infuriated opponents.
"Using federal dollars to build this adds insult to injury," Mr Burke tells me, pointing out that the developer Sharif El-Gamal has defaulted on loans. Mr El-Gamal told the New York Daily News default was a standard way to negotiate better credit rates, and the matter would be resolved.
Ready to react Mr Rauf painstakingly explains that the developer has applied "only for programmes around helping veterans, and providing the kind of social services that our centre aspires to provide".
Bill Burke Bill Burke, whose brother was killed on 9/11, still objects to the planned Islamic centre
Careful to draw a distinction between the role of Mr El-Gamal, the developer, and his own spiritual leadership, Mr Rauf is more expansive when talking about the latter. He now wants to see centres around the world where different faiths and traditions can come together and talk, a project he sees as crucial.
"We have learnt a number of things from the crisis of this summer, the most important of which is that the real battle is not between the West and the Muslim world, it is between moderates of all faiths and traditions and radicals and extremists of all faiths and traditions," he explains.
As this eventful year draws to a close, Mr Rauf reflects on what he has learned.
"The reason why this story has gripped the nation and the world is that it's relevant," he says. "It's about the relationships between Muslims and the wider world, and that's relevant from Tennessee to London to India."
Next year is the 10th anniversary of 9/11, which will inevitably mean a renewed focus on the Islamic community centre at Park Place. Mr Rauf is ready.
"We're committed to the path we're on right now, so the argument about location is a specious one," he says.

Union City case against 'Ground Zero imam' moved to Bayonne, postponed until Feb. 2

BAYONNE -- A February court date has been set in the municipal case of the man known as the "Ground Zero imam," who Union City has fined for alleged health violations found in September at a building he owns.

The case is to be heard on Feb. 2 at 9:30 a.m. in Bayonne Municipal Court. The case was moved from Union City to Bayonne to avoid any conflict of interest after Union City sued Sage Development, owned by Imam Feisal A. Rauf, and was granted receivership of the property at 2206 Central Ave. by a Hudson County judge.

Union City had sought receivership of the property so it could collect the rents and make the necessary improvements. The receivership lasted from Nov. 9 to Dec. 9. Last week control of the building reverted to the imam.

Union City is seeking to enforce fines on 24 summonses, mostly dealing with a hot water heater and bed bug infestations found in the 16-unit apartment building. The fine for each violation can go up to $2,000. Union City originally cited Rauf's building with more than 200 alleged violations, mostly for fire code infractions, but the majority have been corrected.

After a 20-minute conference with both sides, Bayonne Municipal Court Judge Frank Carpenter set the February court date to give each side enough time to prepare their case.

Carpenter added that a number of pertinent documents from the Superior Court trial had not yet been received by Bayonne Prosecutor Robert Hennessey or the imam's lawyer, Tomas Espinosa.

Rauf is the imam who has proposed to build a mosque and Islamic cultural center near Ground Zero in Lower Manhattan.

Europe’s collective suicide is a done deal

by sheikyermami on December 16, 2010
EUrabia Alert
The elimination of Western culture & civilization is  a done deal according to these documents from the planned Euromediterranean Process, of which few have heard.  In reality, this is the biggest treason in history – and the most intelligent, done by stealth, lying/concealment, demoralization, dechristianisation, and corruption.

Europe´s Death Certificate. Jordan Obtains “Advanced EU-Status”: EU´s 4 Freedoms Incl. Free Migration After Morocco. Egypt and Tunesia Next
Link to poster.
Summary: The EU is fully engaged in the delivery on its promise at the 6. Euromediterranean Foreign Ministers´ Conference in 2003 of the allocation of the EU’s 4 freedoms, including freedom of movement, into the EU. First the EU granted Morocco,  now Jordan these 4 freedoms – and the European Union announces that Egypt and Tunisia’s are next. The treaty with Jordan is the first within the framework of the ENP – the European Neighbourhood Policy. This article shows the contents of the agreement: It states to aim at strengthening the multilateral institutions of world governance! Moreover, the agreement will bring visa facilitation and promote the free circulation of people and workers between Jordan and the EU – Jordanians are to have equal social rights in the EU as native Europeans. It will coordinate their social security systems, it will strengthen the fight against terrorism and harmonize the judicial system in Jordan with that of the EU and incorporate  Jordan into the EUROPOL and CEPOL, and exchange judicial information and  promote cooperation between law enforcement authorities in general. It will increase exchanges of students and trainees and include many more Jordanian students in the Erasmus Mundus and Tempus programs. It will enhance the cultural cooperation and increase Jordan’s participation in relevant EU cultural cooperation programs. And much more. After 3 years negotiations will take place ”to lift cooperation to a higher level.”
All these actions in relation to the Muslim “partners” in connection with the alreadystealth, lies/concealment, demoralization, dechristianisation,  and corruption. This is the Luciferian New World Order, based on the Talmud.

“You are of your father the devil. There is no truth in him. For he is a liar, and the father of it.”  (John 8:44). To the Pharisees, the authors of  the Talmud, the foundation of the New World Order and here and here. Pres Obama´s media czar , Julius Genachowski is a Talmud Ace to secure “internet neutrality” – a la another Jew, Jay Rockefeller?

We were never told about the Euromediterranean Process and here. And when I asked ministers and MPs for an explanation, any comment was refused. A 2 MEPs of the Danish People´s party flattened the problem so obstinately that it was very suspicious. Our bought and here media has entirely concealed it, the most cowardly way of lying, since it costs us our independence and even our souls  – and very few ever heard of it. Nevertheless it is the death certificate of Europe. The Euromediterranean is the biggest lie in history alongside with the global warming lie.
Euromed-coop.Without any ado, without our media having told us about it, the EU has as of 26 Oct. 2010 granted Jordan an “advanced status” according to its promise to the then 10 “partner countries” at the 6. Euromediterranean Foreign Ministers´Conference in Naples on 2–3 Dec. 2003 of having The EU´s 4 Freedoms , incl. free movement for their citizens in the Euromed. area. The only condition was progress as for democracy and economy.   Free movement of persons is so important  that  i.a. for this reason the EU is now threatening Switzerland, which has tightened her immigration rules. On 13 July 2010 the equally silenced Union for The Mediterranean and here with a parliament of its own and a secretariat was proclaimed for all countries on the Mediterranean coasts except Libya incl. all EU members. This enormous organisation is largely unknown, since it is a piece in the puzzle to create the world state consisting of an re-awakening Rockefeller plan about a North American Union, the Union for the Mediterranean to the Persian Gulf and the ASEAN + 3 (China, Japan, Australia).  That is why the EU passionately supports a UN Parliamentary Assembly, a World Parliament. And that is why Iran has to be subdued somehow. The below ENP Action Plan clearly mentions “global governance” as the aim – as also stated by EU President, the Bilderberger puppet, van Rompuy.
EU Press Release 6 Dec. 2010: We have agreed on an “advanced status” for Morocco, a country that has made a clear choice to modernise and to strengthen relations with the EU. With Jordan, we have concluded a new “advanced status” Action Plan, and we are discussing similar arrangements with other neighbours, such as Egypt and Tunisia.
However, the Union for the Mediterranean  has not brought about the degree of progress we had hoped for in our neighbourhood – especially concerning democracy, rule of law and respect for human rights. Both EU Member States and partner countries want stronger relations based on high level political co-operation and deeper economic integration. Civil society organizations are also very supportive of the ENP as a tool to advance shared values and good governance. We develop a framework in which our expectations of partners are spelled out more clearly, as are the “rewards” that our partners will obtain if those expectations are met. Kommentar: Here is Morocco´s Action Plan. Not even that Morocco is breaking the premises of this advanced status is being mentioned in the media. The EU is now fulfilling its promises by granting its “partners” (in the New World Order – see videos on right margin of this blog)  “advanced status” one by one! The foundation of this New World Order project is the Barcelona Declaration from 1995.
EU Press Release 26 Oct. 2010: On the occasion of the ninth EU-Jordan Association Council‘s meeting of 26 October 2010, the first ever European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) Action Plan incorporating the “advanced status” partnership was agreed by the two parties.
“Jordan has become an increasingly significant player, a regional actor and a key interlocutor for the European Union in the Middle East,” stated Catherine Ashton, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission.
The “advanced status” partnership will be based on the overarching objective of promoting peace, stability and prosperity in the EU neighbourhood. The advanced status is building on the core values Jordan and the EU share, i.e. the rule of law, good governance and the respect for human rights.

The “advanced status” partnership further expanded the areas of cooperation between Jordan and the EU opening up new opportunities in economic and trade relations via a progressive liberalisation in services and the right of establishment, facilitation of market access, progressive regulatory convergence and preparations of future negotiations on a deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement, as well as reinforced cooperation with certain European agencies and programmes. More EU information here.
The Jordan Times 28 Oct. 2010: Jordan and the European Union on Tuesday agreed on the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) Action Plan, under which the Kingdom enters into an “advanced status” partnership with the supranational institution. “This is a great achievement for Jordanian diplomacy. Jordan is the second Arab country to obtain advanced status after Morocco,” Minister of Industry and Trade Amer Hadidi told The Jordan Times yesterday, calling on the business sector to take advantage of the opportunities the agreement presents.
Dansk-Kultur-Folder-Barcelona-Euro-MediterraneanENP Action Plan for Jordan – an excerpt
After three years, decisions by Jordan and the EU may be taken on the next step in the development of bilateral relations, including the possibility of new contractual links.
“Effective management of migratory flows and facilitation of movement of persons in conformity with the acquis, in particular examine the scope for visa facilitation for short stay for some categories of persons to be defined jointly.”Implement the Jordanian Sustainable Development Strategy, and implement the government’s strategy to reduce poverty • Develop the transport, energy and information society sectors and networks through sector liberalisation, investment in infrastructures and interconnection with EU networks. Notice in particular the marked texts: (28), (40), (41), (46), (48), (63), (64), (65): These taken together with the many other agreements mean mortal danger to Europe´s stability, prosperity and cultural survival.
Quite clearly global governance is mentioned as the aim.

CommentAs I see it these Action Plans with  the EU are the New  World Order´s death certificates for the European nation states, their cultures and religion. It is a silent liquidation, people seeing it happening under their very eyes – but still they don´t grasp what is actually going on. It is high treason in the usual sense of the word – but like good and evil, right and wrong, truth and lies, all other concepts in the New World Order adopt meanings twisted 180 degrees to what we are accustomed to – so all of a sudden traditional European values are treacherous – to the New World Order antivalues.
The Action Plans open up for a flood of citizens from the “partner Countries”. Now from 1 Jan. 2011, Muslims from the “partner” countries Bosnia-Herzegovina and Albania will have visa-free travel into the Schengen zone. And guess where they will go? Well, where the social offers for them are the best, of course. So, a migration is about to take place, 1.3 mio Albanians having applied for passports into the EU, And as the “partners” south and east of the Mediterranean also obtain free access, native Europeans will soon be a minority, which has to keep all those “partners”  alive, for the immigrant master race does not work – according to one of their imams. Native Europeans will become slaves or hunted game – unless they convert to Islam, as anywhere where the Muslims have taken power in previously Christian lands.  They occupied 30% of our state  budgets in Denmark and Sweden in 2001.
Well, that does not concern the decadent native Europeans. The Euromediterranean Process is considered just an insignificant thing by the few who even heard of it. In reality, this is the biggest treason in history – and the most intelligent, done by stealth, lying/concealment, demoralization, dechristianisation, and corruption. This is truly Luciferian.

Park51 Proponents, Opponents Plot Their Next Moves

Tuesday, December 14, 2010

  • Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf (Arun Venugopal)
For those who consider Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf the embodiment of evil -- a wily terrorist sympathizer bent on bringing "stealth jihad" to the United States -- the sight of him in a light blue cashmere sweater may feel incongruous. But these days, the imam seems a lot more relaxed than he did this summer, at the height of the furor over Park51. And while the most vitriolic or unfounded accusations have not faded, they pack less of a charge for him now.
After finding themselves on a 24/7 media loop for the better part of the autumn, the imam and his closest allies have recently managed to escape the attention of the press.
But last week, the imam returned to the spotlight with a press release announcing a project known as the Cordoba Movement. The announcement, he said, was directed at supporters of Park 51, "to expand upon the birth of a movement which happened this summer, with the thousands of people who rallied around us from all 50 states of the union and as many countries across the world and all six [sic] continents."
Echoing the thoughts of Mayor Michael Bloomberg and others, the imam thinks the furor over Park51 had more to do with pre-election hype that flared before November's midterm elections and a campaign of misinformation by opponents and less to do with genuine grassroots opposition.
The issue, he said, "was not really our location."
"What happened this summer was really the rise of Islamophobia in America," he said. "Because there were three, four, five other centers at the same time -- real mosques that were planned, that were also attacked at the same time."
Still, the imam thinks he could've managed the controversy more skillfully, primarily by engaging with 9/11 families earlier, "and in a much more robust manner."

Now, he claims those discussions are taking place. And he's set to hit the lecture circuit at Harvard, Yale, the University of North Carolina and other institutions. At the same time, his wife, Daisy Khan, has been speaking in public. Last week, she addressed Rabbis for Human Rights about what she sees as a nationwide campaign against Islam.
"We are inviting people who consider themselves to be moderates and progressives," she told the audience, "and they can be people of all beliefs and no beliefs, against the extremists who tend to dominate the discourse."
Organizers are vague about how much money has been raised for Park51. Some claim nothing has been raised, others, like Daisy Khan, simply say it's very early in the fundraising process. But the ultimate goal remains $100 million, of which they hope to have $8 million in hand by June. They say the project's eventual nonprofit status means all financing will be completely transparent.
The plan calls for a 15 or 16 story building, with two separate sections, one with the mosque, the other containing a community center with a swimming pool, wellness center, culinary school and restaurant and a 500 seat auditorium. Park51 supporters say these services are primarily aimed at the lower Manhattan community, rather than Muslims. But there's also talk of partnering with a Muslim domestic violence group and offering programming that draws secular Muslims as well as more devout ones. The mosque and community center would not only have separate entrances, say supporters, but separate sets of board members as well.
While the people behind Park51 have consciously avoided the media these last few months, opponents have been frustrated by the absence of coverage. And have tried to renew interest in the subject.
Today, in a midtown theater, a group of opponents is premiering a 45-minute documentary, "Sacrificed Survivors: The Untold Story of the Ground Zero Mega-Mosque." The movie is being distributed by the Christian Action Network. While many scenes relive the events of September 11, 2001, others depict, over an ominous score, a number of prominent mosques around the world that had been -- according to the producers -- Christian or Jewish houses of worship at an earlier time.
"Islam builds on what it conquers," says one man. "And this has happened for, I guess, hundreds of years."
One of the people promoting the movie is Andy Sullivan, a former professional karate fighter who's worked in the construction business for 30 years. He's even helped build two mosques, he said.

"I got plenty of Muslim friends," he said. "My kids grow up half a block from a mosque in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. That's a very, very huge populace of Muslims, in Bay Ridge. As a matter of fact, they call it Bay-root, now," he said, with a laugh.
But he was outraged at the proposed location for Park51 and said many Muslims he knows are also against the project. In recent months he organized a boycott by construction workers, who said they wouldn't work on the site. He also organized a boycott of celebrities who've endorsed the project, including John Cusack, Mayor Bloomberg, Stephen Colbert and Justin Bieber, who Sullivan claims gave the go-ahead to Park 51 in an interview with Tiger Beat magazine. Sullivan sayid regardless of Bieber's not-so-advanced age, his children will no longer attend Bieber's concerts.
"Are my two kids going to derail the Bieber machine?" asked Sullivan. "I don't think so. But it hurts. He said something that clearly hurt my kids, and hurt me. So, if you're gonna say statements that hurt, be prepared. There's gonna be fallout."
While the people behind Park51 say they've been engaging with 9/11 family members, others dispute that. Rosaleen Tallon is the sister of Sean Patrick Tallon, a firefighter who died on 9/11. She said the vast majority of family members oppose the project.
"Imam Rauf went on CNN and stated that they'd met with family members. And maybe they were a token group of people who supported the mosque. But there was never a major outreach to 9/11 family members. But of course, you wouldn't reach out to a group that you already knew the feelings of."
Although they haven't been out demonstrating, opponents of the project have been seething over news that Park51 has applied for funding from the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation, which is taxpayer supported.

"So we are supposed to supply the seed money for a Ground Zero mosque?" said Pamela Geller, a leading opponent of the mosque. "You can't make this stuff up."
Geller had planned the first anti-Park51 protest in months, for Tuesday. But, in a shift from earlier protests, which drew thousands of people to Ground Zero, this one was going to be smaller, at a committee hearing on Wal-Mart held by the City Council. Geller said she wants to highlight the hypocrisy, as she sees it, of council members failing to oppose Park 51, but continuing to place roadblocks before Wal-Mart.
"That you would keep [Wal-Mart] out, ban them, and yet, the very idea of a Ground Zero Mega Mosque is extolled, and those who suffer -- not only the 9/11 families, but all Americans who were attacked that day, and all of America was attacked that day -- are derided, and called racist, Islamophobic, anti-Muslim bigots, because of the pain that they're suffering, it's outrageous."
As it turns out, the Wal-Mart hearing was postponed until next month, so the protest will have to wait.
"Whenever it is," she promised, "we'll be there."
