Comics Beat fawns over Craig Thompson and Habibi

A writer on Comics Beat, some of whose contributors used to work for Publishers Weekly, has written something of a fawn-gush over moonbat Craig Thompson's graphic novel gushing over Islam called Habibi; he's going on a promo tour about it. The writer says:
...since I’m currently in the midst of the 672 pages of Habibi, terrified of a broken nose (remember falling asleep reading Harry Potter in bed?), I can tell you Habibi is all meat.
Halal too, right? Please, do tell us about it.

Here's where the writer of this puff piece really takes a turn for the worst:
Thompson will no doubt have to answer many questions like “what gives you the right to” yada yada but as a thoughtful and sincere creator, maybe he will bridge some of the gap betwixt the Islamic and Christian communities or at least help people realize how similar they are.
Please, do keep going. Does the Koran contain any commandment like "Thou shalt not kill/commit murder"? as the Judeo-Christian bibles do? Speaking of which, interesting how the Christian community is brought up, but not the Jewish community (and if they were, would they only cherish Reform Judaism?). And I guess they don't care about the horror Muhammed caused many in the 7th century either, nor his marriage to a 6-year-old girl. It's shameful how they deliberately fawn over this kind of propaganda.

Obama Administration Officials Buying Up Copies Of Unflattering Book

Book portrays dysfunction in Obama White House

Obama administration officials scrambled Friday to hunt down copies of a new book scheduled to be released next week that paints an unflattering portrait of a dysfunctional and acrimonious White House...

The book, “Confidence Men: Wall Street, Washington and the Education of a President,” by journalist Ron Suskind, comes at an inconvenient time for an administration that increasingly finds itself on the defensive over questions of effectiveness....

[A]s copies of the book began circulating around town Friday, Obama’s aides and allies were forced to defend his management style against the portrayal conveyed by Suskind, who secured White House cooperation for much of his work. Suskind interviewed many top officials and was granted a White House interview with Obama.

White House officials were still reviewing the book late Friday. Communications director Dan Pfeiffer said that such books “tend to take the normal day-to-day activities of governing and infuse them with drama, palace intrigue and salacious details.”...
Denials, CYA scrambling, etc., are now in full swing, just prior to the release of the book.

September 17, 1787

We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.


Article. I.

Section. 1.

All legislative Powers herein granted shall be vested in a Congress of the United States, which shall consist of a Senate and House of Representatives.

Section. 2.

The House of Representatives shall be composed of Members chosen every second Year by the People of the several States, and the Electors in each State shall have the Qualifications requisite for Electors of the most numerous Branch of the State Legislature.

No Person shall be a Representative who shall not have attained to the Age of twenty five Years, and been seven Years a Citizen of the United States, and who shall not, when elected, be an Inhabitant of that State in which he shall be chosen.

Representatives and direct Taxes shall be apportioned among the several States which may be included within this Union, according to their respective Numbers, which shall be determined by adding to the whole Number of free Persons, including those bound to Service for a Term of Years, and excluding Indians not taxed, three fifths of all other Persons. The actual Enumeration shall be made within three Years after the first Meeting of the Congress of the United States, and within every subsequent Term of ten Years, in such Manner as they shall by Law direct. The Number of Representatives shall not exceed one for every thirty Thousand, but each State shall have at Least one Representative; and until such enumeration shall be made, the State of New Hampshire shall be entitled to chuse three, Massachusetts eight, Rhode-Island and Providence Plantations one, Connecticut five, New-York six, New Jersey four, Pennsylvania eight, Delaware one, Maryland six, Virginia ten, North Carolina five, South Carolina five, and Georgia three.

When vacancies happen in the Representation from any State, the Executive Authority thereof shall issue Writs of Election to fill such Vacancies.

The House of Representatives shall chuse their Speaker and other Officers; and shall have the sole Power of Impeachment.

Section. 3.

The Senate of the United States shall be composed of two Senators from each State, chosen by the Legislature thereof for six Years; and each Senator shall have one Vote.

Immediately after they shall be assembled in Consequence of the first Election, they shall be divided as equally as may be into three Classes. The Seats of the Senators of the first Class shall be vacated at the Expiration of the second Year, of the second Class at the Expiration of the fourth Year, and of the third Class at the Expiration of the sixth Year, so that one third may be chosen every second Year; and if Vacancies happen by Resignation, or otherwise, during the Recess of the Legislature of any State, the Executive thereof may make temporary Appointments until the next Meeting of the Legislature, which shall then fill such Vacancies.

No Person shall be a Senator who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty Years, and been nine Years a Citizen of the United States, and who shall not, when elected, be an Inhabitant of that State for which he shall be chosen.

The Vice President of the United States shall be President of the Senate, but shall have no Vote, unless they be equally divided.

The Senate shall chuse their other Officers, and also a President pro tempore, in the Absence of the Vice President, or when he shall exercise the Office of President of the United States.

The Senate shall have the sole Power to try all Impeachments. When sitting for that Purpose, they shall be on Oath or Affirmation. When the President of the United States is tried, the Chief Justice shall preside: And no Person shall be convicted without the Concurrence of two thirds of the Members present.

Judgment in Cases of Impeachment shall not extend further than to removal from Office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any Office of honor, Trust or Profit under the United States: but the Party convicted shall nevertheless be liable and subject to Indictment, Trial, Judgment and Punishment, according to Law.

Section. 4.

The Times, Places and Manner of holding Elections for Senators and Representatives, shall be prescribed in each State by the Legislature thereof; but the Congress may at any time by Law make or alter such Regulations, except as to the Places of chusing Senators.

The Congress shall assemble at least once in every Year, and such Meeting shall be on the first Monday in December, unless they shall by Law appoint a different Day.

Section. 5.

Each House shall be the Judge of the Elections, Returns and Qualifications of its own Members, and a Majority of each shall constitute a Quorum to do Business; but a smaller Number may adjourn from day to day, and may be authorized to compel the Attendance of absent Members, in such Manner, and under such Penalties as each House may provide.

Each House may determine the Rules of its Proceedings, punish its Members for disorderly Behaviour, and, with the Concurrence of two thirds, expel a Member.

Each House shall keep a Journal of its Proceedings, and from time to time publish the same, excepting such Parts as may in their Judgment require Secrecy; and the Yeas and Nays of the Members of either House on any question shall, at the Desire of one fifth of those Present, be entered on the Journal.

Neither House, during the Session of Congress, shall, without the Consent of the other, adjourn for more than three days, nor to any other Place than that in which the two Houses shall be sitting.

Section. 6.

The Senators and Representatives shall receive a Compensation for their Services, to be ascertained by Law, and paid out of the Treasury of the United States. They shall in all Cases, except Treason, Felony and Breach of the Peace, be privileged from Arrest during their Attendance at the Session of their respective Houses, and in going to and returning from the same; and for any Speech or Debate in either House, they shall not be questioned in any other Place.

No Senator or Representative shall, during the Time for which he was elected, be appointed to any civil Office under the Authority of the United States, which shall have been created, or the Emoluments whereof shall have been encreased during such time; and no Person holding any Office under the United States, shall be a Member of either House during his Continuance in Office.

Section. 7.

All Bills for raising Revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives; but the Senate may propose or concur with Amendments as on other Bills.

Every Bill which shall have passed the House of Representatives and the Senate, shall, before it become a Law, be presented to the President of the United States: If he approve he shall sign it, but if not he shall return it, with his Objections to that House in which it shall have originated, who shall enter the Objections at large on their Journal, and proceed to reconsider it. If after such Reconsideration two thirds of that House shall agree to pass the Bill, it shall be sent, together with the Objections, to the other House, by which it shall likewise be reconsidered, and if approved by two thirds of that House, it shall become a Law. But in all such Cases the Votes of both Houses shall be determined by yeas and Nays, and the Names of the Persons voting for and against the Bill shall be entered on the Journal of each House respectively. If any Bill shall not be returned by the President within ten Days (Sundays excepted) after it shall have been presented to him, the Same shall be a Law, in like Manner as if he had signed it, unless the Congress by their Adjournment prevent its Return, in which Case it shall not be a Law.

Every Order, Resolution, or Vote to which the Concurrence of the Senate and House of Representatives may be necessary (except on a question of Adjournment) shall be presented to the President of the United States; and before the Same shall take Effect, shall be approved by him, or being disapproved by him, shall be repassed by two thirds of the Senate and House of Representatives, according to the Rules and Limitations prescribed in the Case of a Bill.

Section. 8.

The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States;

To borrow Money on the credit of the United States;

To regulate Commerce with foreign Nations, and among the several States, and with the Indian Tribes;

To establish an uniform Rule of Naturalization, and uniform Laws on the subject of Bankruptcies throughout the United States;

To coin Money, regulate the Value thereof, and of foreign Coin, and fix the Standard of Weights and Measures;

To provide for the Punishment of counterfeiting the Securities and current Coin of the United States;

To establish Post Offices and post Roads;

To promote the Progress of Science and useful Arts, by securing for limited Times to Authors and Inventors the exclusive Right to their respective Writings and Discoveries;

To constitute Tribunals inferior to the supreme Court;

To define and punish Piracies and Felonies committed on the high Seas, and Offences against the Law of Nations;

To declare War, grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal, and make Rules concerning Captures on Land and Water;

To raise and support Armies, but no Appropriation of Money to that Use shall be for a longer Term than two Years;

To provide and maintain a Navy;

To make Rules for the Government and Regulation of the land and naval Forces;

To provide for calling forth the Militia to execute the Laws of the Union, suppress Insurrections and repel Invasions;

To provide for organizing, arming, and disciplining, the Militia, and for governing such Part of them as may be employed in the Service of the United States, reserving to the States respectively, the Appointment of the Officers, and the Authority of training the Militia according to the discipline prescribed by Congress;

To exercise exclusive Legislation in all Cases whatsoever, over such District (not exceeding ten Miles square) as may, by Cession of particular States, and the Acceptance of Congress, become the Seat of the Government of the United States, and to exercise like Authority over all Places purchased by the Consent of the Legislature of the State in which the Same shall be, for the Erection of Forts, Magazines, Arsenals, dock-Yards, and other needful Buildings;--And

To make all Laws which shall be necessary and proper for carrying into Execution the foregoing Powers, and all other Powers vested by this Constitution in the Government of the United States, or in any Department or Officer thereof.

Section. 9.

The Migration or Importation of such Persons as any of the States now existing shall think proper to admit, shall not be prohibited by the Congress prior to the Year one thousand eight hundred and eight, but a Tax or duty may be imposed on such Importation, not exceeding ten dollars for each Person.

The Privilege of the Writ of Habeas Corpus shall not be suspended, unless when in Cases of Rebellion or Invasion the public Safety may require it.

No Bill of Attainder or ex post facto Law shall be passed.

No Capitation, or other direct, Tax shall be laid, unless in Proportion to the Census or enumeration herein before directed to be taken.

No Tax or Duty shall be laid on Articles exported from any State.

No Preference shall be given by any Regulation of Commerce or Revenue to the Ports of one State over those of another; nor shall Vessels bound to, or from, one State, be obliged to enter, clear, or pay Duties in another.

No Money shall be drawn from the Treasury, but in Consequence of Appropriations made by Law; and a regular Statement and Account of the Receipts and Expenditures of all public Money shall be published from time to time.

No Title of Nobility shall be granted by the United States: And no Person holding any Office of Profit or Trust under them, shall, without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, or Title, of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince, or foreign State.

Section. 10.

No State shall enter into any Treaty, Alliance, or Confederation; grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal; coin Money; emit Bills of Credit; make any Thing but gold and silver Coin a Tender in Payment of Debts; pass any Bill of Attainder, ex post facto Law, or Law impairing the Obligation of Contracts, or grant any Title of Nobility.

No State shall, without the Consent of the Congress, lay any Imposts or Duties on Imports or Exports, except what may be absolutely necessary for executing it's inspection Laws: and the net Produce of all Duties and Imposts, laid by any State on Imports or Exports, shall be for the Use of the Treasury of the United States; and all such Laws shall be subject to the Revision and Controul of the Congress.

No State shall, without the Consent of Congress, lay any Duty of Tonnage, keep Troops, or Ships of War in time of Peace, enter into any Agreement or Compact with another State, or with a foreign Power, or engage in War, unless actually invaded, or in such imminent Danger as will not admit of delay.


Article. II.

Section. 1.

The executive Power shall be vested in a President of the United States of America. He shall hold his Office during the Term of four Years, and, together with the Vice President, chosen for the same Term, be elected, as follows:

Each State shall appoint, in such Manner as the Legislature thereof may direct, a Number of Electors, equal to the whole Number of Senators and Representatives to which the State may be entitled in the Congress: but no Senator or Representative, or Person holding an Office of Trust or Profit under the United States, shall be appointed an Elector.

The Electors shall meet in their respective States, and vote by Ballot for two Persons, of whom one at least shall not be an Inhabitant of the same State with themselves. And they shall make a List of all the Persons voted for, and of the Number of Votes for each; which List they shall sign and certify, and transmit sealed to the Seat of the Government of the United States, directed to the President of the Senate. The President of the Senate shall, in the Presence of the Senate and House of Representatives, open all the Certificates, and the Votes shall then be counted. The Person having the greatest Number of Votes shall be the President, if such Number be a Majority of the whole Number of Electors appointed; and if there be more than one who have such Majority, and have an equal Number of Votes, then the House of Representatives shall immediately chuse by Ballot one of them for President; and if no Person have a Majority, then from the five highest on the List the said House shall in like Manner chuse the President. But in chusing the President, the Votes shall be taken by States, the Representation from each State having one Vote; A quorum for this purpose shall consist of a Member or Members from two thirds of the States, and a Majority of all the States shall be necessary to a Choice. In every Case, after the Choice of the President, the Person having the greatest Number of Votes of the Electors shall be the Vice President. But if there should remain two or more who have equal Votes, the Senate shall chuse from them by Ballot the Vice President.

The Congress may determine the Time of chusing the Electors, and the Day on which they shall give their Votes; which Day shall be the same throughout the United States.

No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.

In Case of the Removal of the President from Office, or of his Death, Resignation, or Inability to discharge the Powers and Duties of the said Office, the Same shall devolve on the Vice President, and the Congress may by Law provide for the Case of Removal, Death, Resignation or Inability, both of the President and Vice President, declaring what Officer shall then act as President, and such Officer shall act accordingly, until the Disability be removed, or a President shall be elected.

The President shall, at stated Times, receive for his Services, a Compensation, which shall neither be increased nor diminished during the Period for which he shall have been elected, and he shall not receive within that Period any other Emolument from the United States, or any of them.

Before he enter on the Execution of his Office, he shall take the following Oath or Affirmation:--"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

Section. 2.

The President shall be Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the several States, when called into the actual Service of the United States; he may require the Opinion, in writing, of the principal Officer in each of the executive Departments, upon any Subject relating to the Duties of their respective Offices, and he shall have Power to grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offences against the United States, except in Cases of Impeachment.

He shall have Power, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, to make Treaties, provided two thirds of the Senators present concur; and he shall nominate, and by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, shall appoint Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls, Judges of the supreme Court, and all other Officers of the United States, whose Appointments are not herein otherwise provided for, and which shall be established by Law: but the Congress may by Law vest the Appointment of such inferior Officers, as they think proper, in the President alone, in the Courts of Law, or in the Heads of Departments.

The President shall have Power to fill up all Vacancies that may happen during the Recess of the Senate, by granting Commissions which shall expire at the End of their next Session.

Section. 3.

He shall from time to time give to the Congress Information of the State of the Union, and recommend to their Consideration such Measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient; he may, on extraordinary Occasions, convene both Houses, or either of them, and in Case of Disagreement between them, with Respect to the Time of Adjournment, he may adjourn them to such Time as he shall think proper; he shall receive Ambassadors and other public Ministers; he shall take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed, and shall Commission all the Officers of the United States.

Section. 4.

The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.


Article III.

Section. 1.

The judicial Power of the United States shall be vested in one supreme Court, and in such inferior Courts as the Congress may from time to time ordain and establish. The Judges, both of the supreme and inferior Courts, shall hold their Offices during good Behaviour, and shall, at stated Times, receive for their Services a Compensation, which shall not be diminished during their Continuance in Office.

Section. 2.

The judicial Power shall extend to all Cases, in Law and Equity, arising under this Constitution, the Laws of the United States, and Treaties made, or which shall be made, under their Authority;--to all Cases affecting Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls;--to all Cases of admiralty and maritime Jurisdiction;--to Controversies to which the United States shall be a Party;--to Controversies between two or more States;-- between a State and Citizens of another State,--between Citizens of different States,--between Citizens of the same State claiming Lands under Grants of different States, and between a State, or the Citizens thereof, and foreign States, Citizens or Subjects.

In all Cases affecting Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls, and those in which a State shall be Party, the supreme Court shall have original Jurisdiction. In all the other Cases before mentioned, the supreme Court shall have appellate Jurisdiction, both as to Law and Fact, with such Exceptions, and under such Regulations as the Congress shall make.

The Trial of all Crimes, except in Cases of Impeachment, shall be by Jury; and such Trial shall be held in the State where the said Crimes shall have been committed; but when not committed within any State, the Trial shall be at such Place or Places as the Congress may by Law have directed.

Section. 3.

Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court.

The Congress shall have Power to declare the Punishment of Treason, but no Attainder of Treason shall work Corruption of Blood, or Forfeiture except during the Life of the Person attainted.


Article. IV.

Section. 1.

Full Faith and Credit shall be given in each State to the public Acts, Records, and judicial Proceedings of every other State. And the Congress may by general Laws prescribe the Manner in which such Acts, Records and Proceedings shall be proved, and the Effect thereof.

Section. 2.

The Citizens of each State shall be entitled to all Privileges and Immunities of Citizens in the several States.

A Person charged in any State with Treason, Felony, or other Crime, who shall flee from Justice, and be found in another State, shall on Demand of the executive Authority of the State from which he fled, be delivered up, to be removed to the State having Jurisdiction of the Crime.

No Person held to Service or Labour in one State, under the Laws thereof, escaping into another, shall, in Consequence of any Law or Regulation therein, be discharged from such Service or Labour, but shall be delivered up on Claim of the Party to whom such Service or Labour may be due.

Section. 3.

New States may be admitted by the Congress into this Union; but no new State shall be formed or erected within the Jurisdiction of any other State; nor any State be formed by the Junction of two or more States, or Parts of States, without the Consent of the Legislatures of the States concerned as well as of the Congress.

The Congress shall have Power to dispose of and make all needful Rules and Regulations respecting the Territory or other Property belonging to the United States; and nothing in this Constitution shall be so construed as to Prejudice any Claims of the United States, or of any particular State.

Section. 4.

The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened), against domestic Violence.


Article. V.

The Congress, whenever two thirds of both Houses shall deem it necessary, shall propose Amendments to this Constitution, or, on the Application of the Legislatures of two thirds of the several States, shall call a Convention for proposing Amendments, which, in either Case, shall be valid to all Intents and Purposes, as Part of this Constitution, when ratified by the Legislatures of three fourths of the several States, or by Conventions in three fourths thereof, as the one or the other Mode of Ratification may be proposed by the Congress; Provided that no Amendment which may be made prior to the Year One thousand eight hundred and eight shall in any Manner affect the first and fourth Clauses in the Ninth Section of the first Article; and that no State, without its Consent, shall be deprived of its equal Suffrage in the Senate.


Article. VI.

All Debts contracted and Engagements entered into, before the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be as valid against the United States under this Constitution, as under the Confederation.

This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstanding.

The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.


Article. VII.

The Ratification of the Conventions of nine States, shall be sufficient for the Establishment of this Constitution between the States so ratifying the Same.

The Word, "the," being interlined between the seventh and eighth Lines of the first Page, the Word "Thirty" being partly written on an Erazure in the fifteenth Line of the first Page, The Words "is tried" being interlined between the thirty second and thirty third Lines of the first Page and the Word "the" being interlined between the forty third and forty fourth Lines of the second Page.

With President Obama’s approval ratings in free fall and 2012 election prospects looking bleak for Democrats, liberals are resorting to vicious attacks, name-calling and hyperbole to paint Republicans in a bad light. Here are the Top 10 Examples of Liberal Incivility:

1. Obama’s army: Teamsters President Jimmy Hoffa unleashed this tirade on Labor Day in Detroit as he rallied the union audience before President Obama addressed the crowd: “President Obama, this is your army. We are ready to march. Everybody here’s got to vote. Let’s take these sons of bitches out.”

2. Hanging on a tree: Rep. Andre Carson (D.-Ind.) suggested that some conservative congressmen want to return to the days of lynching. At a Congressional Black Caucus event Miami in August, Carson delivered this gem of civility: “This is the effort that we are seeing of Jim Crow. Some of these folks in Congress right now would love to see us as second-class citizens. Some of them in Congress right now with this Tea Party movement would love to see you and me … hanging on a tree.”

3. Biden’s barbarians: Vice President Joe Biden used an AFL-CIO rally in Cincinnati on Labor Day to mock the political opposition in vile terms. Biden told the union members: “You are the only folks keeping barbarians from the gates.”

4. Save the children: House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, at a San Francisco fund-raiser, said Republicans were sacrificing their children in their attempt to destroy government: “The Republicans right now are using the idea of deficit reduction as an excuse, they’re hijacking an idea that has some resonance—we all want to reduce the deficit—in order to not reduce the deficit but to destroy the public space, destroy government. … You wonder, do their children breathe air? Do they drink water?”

5. Straight to hell: California Rep. Maxine Waters (D.-South Central) revved up her constituents last month, blasting the Tea Party and talking tough. Waters told the crowd: “I am not afraid of anybody. This is a tough game. You can’t be intimidated. You can’t be frightened. And as far as I’m concerned, the Tea Party can go straight to hell.”

6. Global-warming racism: Al Gore, high priest of the global-warming cult, likened those who question his doctrine to racists: “There came a time when friends or people you work with … when racist comments would come up in the conversation and in years past they were just natural. Then there came a time when people would say, ‘Hey, man, why do you talk that way? I mean that is wrong. I don’t go for that, so don’t talk that way around me. I just don’t believe that.’ That happened in millions of conversations and slowly the conversation was won. We have to win the conversation on climate.”

7. Stockholm syndrome: Political genius and hack comedienne Janeane Garofalo came up with a doozy of a conspiracy theory, positing that the Koch brothers or Karl Rove or Grover Norquist were paying Herman Cain to run for President in order to deflect charges of racism against Republicans. Taking off her tinfoil hat to appear on Al Gore’s Current TV, Garofalo said: “Herman Cain, I feel like, is being paid by somebody to be involved and to run for President so that you go, ‘Oh, they can’t be racist’ … There may be a touch of Stockholm syndrome, because anytime I see a person of color or a female in the Republican Party or the conservative movement or the Tea Party, I wonder how they could be trying to curry favor with the oppressors.”

8. To the streets: Keith Olbermann, the former MSNBC host now working for Al Gore’s Current TV, was infuriated by the debt-ceiling deal and called on his viewers to share his anger (luckily for America he has few viewers): Those responsible for the debt-ceiling deal, Olbermann said, “will crush us, because those who created it are organized and unified and hell-bent. And the only response is to be organized and unified and hell-bent in return.” Opponents of the deal “must find again the energy and the purpose of the 1960s and early 1970s, and we must protest this deal and all the goddamn deals to come, in the streets.”

9. Obama’s silence: After his call for civility following the shooting of Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, President Obama’s failure to condemn Hoffa’s remark gives tacit approval for more shameful attacks. After sharing the same podium with Hoffa at the Labor Day rally where the labor leader declared war, the President has refused to condemn the remarks, with a presidential spokesman saying the President isn’t going to “serve as the speech police of the Democratic Party.”

10. Kill GOP zombies: As Democratic bile worsens, abated by President Obama’s blinders, it was only time before the culture became infected with violent anti-conservative imagery. The video-game company StarvingEyes has released a new game called “Tea Party Zombies Must Die,” where impressionable young minds can score points by killing zombies in the likeness of Sarah Palin, Michele Bachmann, Newt Gingrich and Fox News hosts.

Book: Obama White House ‘Has a Real Woman Problem’

The Obama White House is a “hostile” environment for women even though they occupy many of the senior positions in the West Wing, according to a new book.

Pulitzer Prize-winning author Ron Suskind interviewed more than 200 people, including President Obama, for "Confidence Men: Wall Street, Washington, and The Education of A President," which will be released Sept. 20.

The book portrays a White House in which Obama struggled with a divided group of advisers, some of whom he didn't initially consider for their high-profile roles. And top female advisers said they felt left out of key meetings or overpowered by their male counterparts.

“This place would be in court for a hostile workplace,” former White House communications director Anita Dunn is quoted as saying, according to the Washington Post, which obtained a copy. “Because it actually fits all of the classic legal requirements for a genuinely hostile workplace to women.”

Dunn told the newspaper in an interview on Friday that she told Suskin “point blank” that the White House “was not a hostile environment.”

“The president is someone who when he goes home at night he goes home to a house full of very strong women,” she said. “He values having strong women around him.”

But a top female official blamed Obama for leading a boys’ club.

“The president has a real woman problem. The idea of the boys’ club being just Larry and Rahm isn’t fair,” she told Suskind, referring to former Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel and Larry Summers, former chairman of the National Economic Council. Obama “was just as responsible himself.”

Christina Romer, former head of the Council of Economic advisers, described one meeting for Suskind in which she was “boxed out” by Summers, the Washington Post reported.

“I felt like a piece of meat,” she said.

The book also offers accounts of disagreement among advisers over how large a stimulus was necessary to revive the economy and how aggressively to deal with financial institutions that had become "too big to fail."

Summers is quoted as lamenting that he and others felt "home alone" and that mistakes made under Obama would not have happened under President Clinton, for whom Summers also served. Interviewed by Suskind, Summers initially denied making such comments, then acknowledged them, saying he was frustrated at having "five issues" of major importance to deal with at once and not "five times as many" officials to handle them.

The book also states Geithner and the Treasury Department ignored a March 2009 order to consider dissolving banking giant Citigroup while continuing stress tests on banks, which were burdened with toxic mortgage assets.

Geithner says in the book that he did not recall that Obama was mad at him about the Citigroup decision and rejected allegations contained in White House documents that his department had been slow to enact the president's plans.

"I don't slow walk the president on anything," Geithner told Suskind.

"The Citbank incident, and others like it, reflected a more pernicious and personal dilemma emerging from inside the administration: that the young president's authority was being systematically undermined or hedged by his seasoned advisers," Suskind writes.

The book also says Emanuel was not the president's first choice for the position. According to Suskind, Emanuel's name was not even on the initial short list, which included White House aide Pete Rouse.

The White House is downplaying the information in the book.

“Books like these tend to take the normal day to day activities of governing and infuse them with drama, palace intrigue and salacious details based on anonymous accounts,” White House Communications Director Dan Pfeiffer said in a statement to Fox News.

“The truth is simply and well known: President Obama and his economic team walked into office during the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression and took bold, decisive action that prevented the collapse of the financial system, saving millions of jobs and putting the economy back in a place where it is creating jobs and growing again,” he said.

“The president made very tough decisions in the most difficult of circumstances and his team executed those decisions faithfully and tirelessly,” he added.

An investigative reporter, Suskind won a Pulitzer Prize in 1995 while working for the Wall Street Journal.

FBI Teaches Agents: ‘Mainstream’ Muslims Are ‘Violent, Radical’ 


(Wired) The FBI is teaching its counterterrorism agents that “main stream” [sic] American Muslims are likely to be terrorist sympathizers; that the Prophet Mohammed was a “cult leader”; and that the Islamic practice of giving charity is no more than a “funding mechanism for combat.” 

At the Bureau’s training ground in Quantico, Virginia, agents are shown a chart contending that the more “devout” a Muslim, the more likely he is to be “violent.” Those destructive tendencies cannot be reversed, an FBI instructional presentation adds: 

“Any war against non-believers is justified” under Muslim law; a “moderating process cannot happen if the Koran continues to be regarded as the unalterable word of Allah.”

These are excerpts from dozens of pages of recent FBI training material on Islam that Danger Room has acquired. In them, the Constitutionally protected religious faith of millions of Americans is portrayed as an indicator of terrorist activity. 
“There may not be a ‘radical’ threat as much as it is simply a normal assertion of the orthodox ideology,” one FBI presentation notes. “The strategic themes animating these Islamic values are not fringe; they are main stream.” 
The FBI isn’t just treading on thin legal ice by portraying ordinary, observant Americans as terrorists-in-waiting, former counterterrorism agents say. It’s also playing into al-Qaida’s hands. Focusing on the religious behavior of American citizens instead of proven indicators of criminal activity like stockpiling guns or using shady financing makes it more likely that the FBI will miss the real warning signs of terrorism. 
And depicting Islam as inseparable from political violence is exactly the narrative al-Qaida spins — as is the related idea that America and Islam are necessarily in conflict. 
That’s why FBI whistleblowers provided Danger Room with these materials.Over the past few years, American Muslim civil rights groups have raised alarm about increased FBI and police presence in Islamic community centers and mosques, fearing that their lawful behavior is being targeted under the broad brush of counterterrorism. The documents may help explain the heavy scrutiny.
They certainly aren’t the first time the FBI has portrayed Muslims in a negative light during Bureau training sessions. As Danger Room reported in July, the FBI’s Training Division has included anti-Islam books, and materials that claim Islam “transforms [a] country’s culture into 7th-century Arabian ways.”

When Danger Room confronted the FBI with that material, an official statement issued to us claimed, “The presentation in question was a rudimentary version used for a limited time that has since been replaced.”But these documents aren’t relics from an earlier era. One of these briefings, titled “Strategic Themes and Drivers in Islamic Law,” took place on March 21.The Islam briefings are elective, not mandatory. “

A disclaimer accompanied the presentation stating that the views expressed are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of the U.S. government,” FBI spokesman Christopher Allen tells Danger Room.

The training materials in question were delivered as Stage Two training to counterterrorism-designated agents,” Allen adds.

“This training was largely derived from a variety of open source publications and includes the opinion of the analyst that developed the lesson block.”

Not all counterterrorism veterans consider the briefings so benign. “Teaching counterterrorism operatives about obscure aspects of Islam,” says Robert McFadden, who recently retired as one of the Navy Criminal Investigative Service’s al-Qaida-hunters, “without context, without objectivity, and without covering other non-religious drivers of dangerous behavior is no way to stop actual terrorists.”

Asian governments supposedly realizing the futility of censoring the net

Here's a recent hopeful article which talks about various governments in Asia describing the utter uselessness of censoring the Internet.

SINGAPORE - It's not just dictators. Governments around the world, many of them popularly elected, have tried for years to control the Internet and social media, dismayed by their potential to incite violence, spread mischief and distribute pornography and dissent.

But in Asia, home to everything from free-wheeling democracies to totalitarian regimes and others in between, many governments are increasingly realising that controlling online content, including dissent, just will not work. Even China, which strongly regulates the Internet and is grappling with how to deal with the extremely popular microblogs read by hundreds of millions of its people, is highly unlikely to block them completely.

"Governments are committing quite a bit of resources and time to block websites and I think it's a panic reaction," says Phil Robertson, Bangkok-based deputy director of the Asia division of Human Rights Watch.

"They have some temporary, immediate discouraging effect but over the longer term, they won't be effective because people will still find a way to get the news they want to hear.

"Once people have been exposed to the Internet and see the power of getting information free to your computer, it's a very addictive feeling of empowerment."

Freedom is indeed addictive. That's why it's so dangerous to totalitarian movements, especially the one I write about on a regular basis.

So if censoring the net is supposedly useless, why is my site still blocked in Malaysia (as well as this one), both of which are critical of Islam? So call be skeptical, but I don't see this Asian government -- i.e. Malaysia's -- loosening up on their criminalization of criticism of Islam anytime soon.

Report: New York Times Preparing Story Questioning Obama’s Mental Health

As I wrote this morning, Obama had better watch out for the knife in his back.

We hear the New York Times is looking into whether it’s all starting to get to him—like, clinically.
We’re told by a source inside the Times that the paper is preparing a story arguing that Obama no longer finds joy in the political back-and-forth, has seemed increasingly listless to associates, and is generally exhibiting the litany of signs that late-night cable commercials will tell you add up to depression. Or maybe Low T.

Either way, the investigation was described to us as taking seriously the notion that Obama may be suffering from a depressive episode. Of course, absent a telltale Wellbutrin prescription or testimony from the man himself, it’s really impossible to achieve a reliable diagnosis. And a story like “Obama Appears to Suffer From Depression” can be easily downgraded to “Political Travails Begin to Take Personal Toll on Obama.”

So the story in question, if it ever comes out, may not end up supporting the depression thesis. But rest assured: There are people at the Times who, based on the paper’s reporting, believe Obama is depressed—the kind of depression where, if he weren’t the president of the United States, he wouldn’t be getting out of bed in the morning.

Did Solyndra Actually Get a Second Loan of $469 Million, Bringing the Full Loan Package To Over A Billion?

This is unclear.

The great @williamamos highlighted the fact that Solyndra did indeed apply for a second big loan guarantee, noting this blog, LA Observed, scooping everyone on the story.

Here's the thing: No one seems to be able to say with confidence whether the government did in fact extend that loan guarantee to them.

I'm assuming, provisionally, that means this is being covered up.

Because why would the Obama Administration, if it had in fact denied the loan guarantee, not rush out with proof they'd declined the second application? That would be helpful to them, wouldn't it?

In March 2009, at the urging of the Obama White House, the Department of Energy loan department approved a $535 million guaranteed loan to Solyndra. Of course, the administration is trying to blame the Bush White House (what's new?) because the loan application occurred while Bush was president.

The fact is the Energy Department under President Bush DENIED the loan request from Solyndra during the administration’s waning days in early January of 2009. The Bush Energy Department denied the loan because the “company didn’t have good long-term prospects.”

Ford TV Ad Slams Obama Auto Bailouts

America is still fighting over President Obama's costly bailout of Chrysler and General Motors. Especially the owners of Ford, the only member of Detroit's "Big Three" who rejected the government dole and emerged perfectly healthy.

In its most political ad in the so-called "Drive One" ads where real drivers are thrust before cameras to explain why they picked Ford, a real Ford F-150 pick-up driver is featured.

His name is Chris. After he sits down the "reporters" bark "Chris, Chris." One asks him to explain why "was buying American important to you."



Sitting and looking sincere and serious, Chris says: "I wasn't going to buy another car that was bailed out by our government. I was going to buy from a manufacturer that's standing on their own: win, lose, or draw. That's what America is about is taking the chance to succeed and understanding when you fail that you gotta' pick yourself up and go back to work. Ford is that company for me."

A Ford spokeswoman confirmed that Chris is an actual Ford owner and that those are his real words (the ad series is all unscripted).

According to a government report, taxpayers will lose $14 billion in the bailout.

WASHINGTON — Taxpayers will lose about $14 billion in the government's $80 billion bailout of Chrysler and GM, the White House said Wednesday, portraying the outcome as good news since the losses are far lower than originally anticipated.

Seizing on the figures, the Obama administration took credit for the resurgence of the U.S. auto industry, assuring taxpayers that the government's bailout of Chrysler and GM was an investment worth making.

A report by the president's National Economic Council noted that as Detroit automakers rebound, the taxpayers' loss from the bailout will be about $14 billion, or less than 20 percent of the $80 billion that the Bush and Obama administration used to prop up the companies in 2008. The Treasury Department had expected losses closer to 60 percent."

Dems slam Obama for going 'AWOL' on mortgage crisis

Leading House Democrats are accusing the Obama administration of ignoring the lingering mortgage crisis and threatening tens of millions of Americans with foreclosure in the process.

The lawmakers — encouraged by Obama's mention of mortgage relief in his address to Congress last week — were quickly deflated just days later when their efforts to learn the details of the White House plan proved unsuccessful.

"The administration has been AWOL on this issue," charged Rep. Dennis Cardoza (D-Calif.), "and the American people are suffering because of the mismanagement."

"In my entire political career, I've never seen anything this irresponsible," he added.

The Democrats were fired up after the administration declined their request for a briefing with Edward DeMarco, the acting director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA), on the specifics of the White House plan.

Instead, said Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.), "they [FHFA] sent us some career employees, and they were not able to answer the questions that we were most concerned about."

"We need to have [DeMarco] here to address the questions," said Cummings, the senior Democrat on the Oversight and Government Reform Committee. "He's the person who answers directly to the president."

Cardoza said that, during a June 2 Democratic Caucus meeting with Obama at the White House, the president vowed to propose "a very significant housing initiative in September."

"Today we just heard that they don't know anything about it at the FHFA," Cardoza said.

Neither the White House nor the FHFA — an agency independent of the administration — responded to requests for comment.

Hours later, Cummings and Cardoza spearheaded a letter to DeMarco requesting a face-to-face meeting. Twenty-eight other House Democrats and one Republican — Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) — were cced on the letter. Those Democrats signed on to a letter last week requesting a face-to-face meeting with DeMarco.

Cummings said he expects such a meeting in the next two or three weeks.

Cardoza said there's a growing sense the administration is stonewalling.

"They're giving us the same speech they'd given us months before," he said. "We've seen this dog-and-pony show before. It's nothing new. … That's the frustration.

"DeMarco either needs to do something," Cardoza added, "or he needs to get out of the way."

Addressing the joint session of Congress last week, Obama dedicated two sentences to the ongoing foreclosure crisis, vowing to bolster his efforts to help struggling homeowners.

"We’re going to work with federal housing agencies to help more people refinance their mortgages at interest rates that are now near 4 percent," the president said. "That’s a step that can put more than $2,000 a year in a family’s pocket, and give a lift to an economy still burdened by the drop in housing prices."

From the audience, Cardoza — who represents one of the districts hit hardest by the foreclosure crisis — shot to his feet in applause.

After the speech, Cardoza and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) stuck around the House chamber to discuss mortgage relief with administration officials.

Pelosi's office did not respond to requests for comment Thursday.

DeMarco said after the speech that FHFA is "reevaluating" a two-year old program — the Home Affordable Refinance Program (HARP) — "to determine if there are ways to extend the benefits of this refinance product to more borrowers."

But some Democrats say the White House needs to do more than dabble at the edges of programs that didn't live up to their billing. The roughly 850,000 loans refinanced under HARP, for instance, fell well short of the administration's initial estimates.

"It doesn't seem like they get it, and they don't get it in this sense: Everything they've tried so far has not worked," Rep. Jim Costa (Calif.) said Thursday. "I'm not convinced that you can tweak this effort … and make it successful."

Another problem, Costa charged, is that the administration is sending community banks conflicting messages. On one hand, the White House is asking them to build up capital and write off their bad loans, he said. On the other, it's asking them to help struggling homeowners refinance in ways that would hurt the banks' bottom line.

"Their policies are in contradiction with one another," Costa said.

Consumer groups, meanwhile, are wondering why it's taken so long for policymakers to turn their sights on the lingering housing crisis, which was a central cause of the Great Recession.

"You're not going to create jobs until you fix the economy; you're not going to fix the economy until you fix housing; and you're not going to fix housing without addressing foreclosures," said Kathleen Day, spokeswoman for the Center for Responsible Lending, a consumer advocacy group.

Adding to the urgency, foreclosure filings — including mortgage defaults, scheduled auctions and bank repossessions — jumped to nearly 230,000 in August, up 7 percent from the month before, according to a Thursday report from RealtyTrac, an online foreclosure database.

Default notices — affecting nearly 80,000 properties — were up 33 percent, RealtyTrac reported. In California the figure was 55 percent.

"The American Dream is in real jeopardy — today," Cardoza warned.

Cardoza didn't limit his blame to the president, noting that Obama's pick to replace DeMarco with a permanent FHFA director was blocked by Sen. Richard Shelby (Ala.), senior Republican on the Banking Committee.

"That vacancy needs to be filled," Cardoza said, "[and] the Senate needs to quit playing politics."

Obama, he added, "can't be expected to administer a policy when he can't put his people in place."

Still, the California Democrat reserved his harshest criticism for the White House.

"I couldn't wait to get Obama in office because I was sure a Democrat would do a better job," Cardoza said, referring to the foreclosure-relief efforts under the Bush administration. "And, frankly, nothing's happened. The programs that were put in place were abysmal failures."

Bahrain renews U.S. defense pact but didn’t want Iran to know

LONDON — Bahrain has secretly renewed its defense cooperation agreement with the United States.

The Gulf Cooperation Council state was said to have extended the defense accord with Washington until 2016. The renewal was conducted by the former administration of then-President George Bush and Congress was not notified.

“We’re in a situation where the Bahrain government and the U.S. are becoming ever more reliant on each other,” former U.S. Defense Department official Michael Rubin said.

Rubin said the secrecy probably reflected a request by Bahrain, which did not want to anger its neighbor Iran, accused of financing the Shi’ite revolt in the spring of 2011. On Sept. 1, Britain’s Financial Times reported that Manama requested a five-year extension of the defense pact.

For nearly 40 years, the U.S. Navy has based its Fifth Fleet in Bahrain. A former Fifth Fleet commander, Vice Adm. Charles Moore, said the U.S. secret extension with Bahrain was probably connected to concerns in wake of Al Qaida’s suicide air strikes on New York and Washington in 2001.

“After we got into 9/11, there was a lot of talk about the long war,” Moore said. “There was probably a set of actions to extend our presence at the foreign bases that we had. It was probably one of these bureaucratic things extend the [defense agreements] for as long as you can get them.”

Bahrain has been deemed a major non-NATO ally of the United States and provides Washington with military facilities. But the agreement between Manama and Washington was not said to constitute a formal defense treaty.

Turkey weighs overhauling its military, placing it under civilian control

ANKARA — Turkey’s Justice and Development Party has been reviewing options for the restructuring of the military.

A senior party official has drafted a plan that would merge and eliminate numerous units over the next 12 years. “The General Staff itself should carry out the reorganization,” Justice and Development Party deputy chairman Huseyin Celik said.

This marked the first time that Turkey’s ruling party recommended a major overhaul of the military. The plan was released in wake of a shakeup of the General Staff by Prime Minister Recep Erdogan in August.

“We have promised the people an advanced democracy,” Celik said. “In this context, civilian-military ties cannot resemble those in backward countries.”

The 15-point plan called for the once-powerful General Staff to take orders from the civilian Defense Ministry. Another recommendation stipulated the reform of military education and force structure.

In interviews with the Turkish media, Celik maintained that his plan did not reflect Erdogan’s agenda to make the military subordinate to the government. Celik, however, has been regarded as a close ally of the prime minister and Turkish President Abdullah Gul.

Celik has argued that Turkey’s military still reflected that of the Cold War. He said major units, including the so-called Aegean Army, were no longer required.

“If the necessary arrangements are not made, if a cell renewal is not ensured, the body will exhaust itself,” Celik said.

Another recommendation called for the reform of the Gendarmerie, a leading player in Turkey’s war against the Kurdish Workers Party. Celik said the military should be largely comprised of career soldiers that would enable the end of the draft.

Celik said he did not expect any short-term decisions regarding his plan, meant to be implemented by 2023. He said his plan marked an agenda for a public debate on the future of the military.

“If that’s accomplished, the army will shrug off the suspicions and emerge stronger,” Celik said. “I believe those issues should be discussed. Turkey has already overcome those taboos.”

There is no doubt that the express purpose of this is to PREVENT the army from exercising it’s historical role of preventing extremes, and situations dangerous to the nation.

While the natural impulse of this situation is to laud the sovereignty of the people, but there can be no doubt that Turkey aligning with Islamist position will expose the Turkish people to great dangers in the days, weeks, months and years to come.

Some large choices are going to be have to be made, both here and in the Middle East and it is my sense that in the end, just as the Turkish people have claimed their position, so will the American, and a great chasm will be seen, bridgeable only by force.
