A recent letter to the editor of our local paper:

Editor:

Regarding the outcry for the name of the Washington Redskins to be changed because the name is shameful and offensive ("Franchise would be in good company if it changed name," Reading Eagle, Oct. 12):

I agree. The word "Washington" should be dropped immediately.

Netanyahu continues the cowardice of releasing terrorists

The embarrassment of a prime minister is intent on continuing with his insult to justice and the victims of jihad, all the while using construction as a kind of moral equivalence:
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu does not intend to abort the second phase of the prisoner release which he pledged within the framework of resuming direct peace talks with the Palestinians, but he also intends to accelerate certain building projects in Judea and Samaria.

Netanyahu was planning to divulge the identities of the 32 convicted terrorists comprising the second batch of Palestinian prisoners during the weekly Cabinet meeting on Sunday. [...]

A senior political official said on Thursday that "Israel will stand behind all its obligations with the resumption of negotiations. At the same time a new construction initiative is expected to be announced." [...]

Meanwhile, dissension within the government has grown over the second phase of the prisoner release. Economy and Trade Minister Naftali Bennett (Habayit Hayehudi) criticized the prime minister's willingness to release terrorists, despite Netanyahu's pledge to keep building in the settlements, the support center of Bennett's party.

"The attempt to combine construction with freeing murderers is cynical and morally wrong. It would be better for the prime minister not to free murderers and not to build," he said.
He's right. At worst, it's sick and can embarrass people who live in Judea/Samaria.
Habayit Hayehudi announced on Thursday it planned to propose a bill on Sunday that would prevent future prisoner releases.

The new bill "would stop the shameful release of terrorist prisoners in the future and we even expect Likud ministers to support [it]," said Habayit Heyehudi in a press release. The bill has also received signatures from MKs in Netanyahu's Likud party and United Torah Judaism.
They'd do a lot of good to support the bill, which is crucial for ensuring that violent criminals serve their full punishment, no matter their ethnic background.

Healthcare.gov site and backend marketplace built on NO BID contracts given to?

First Lady Michelle Obama’s Princeton classmate is a top executive at the company that earned the contract to build the failed Obamacare website.
Toni Townes-Whitley, Princeton class of ’85, is senior vice president at CGI Federal, which earned the no-bid contract to build the $678 million Obamacare enrollment website at Healthcare.gov. CGI Federal is the U.S. arm of a Canadian company.
Townes-Whitley and her Princeton classmate Michelle Obama are both members of the Association of Black Princeton Alumni.
Having been a supplier of research equipment to federal instituions such as the Uniformed Services Univ, Bethesda, NIH, and various research VA institutes (yes there are some) I know about no bid contracts, and MY PERSONAL experience is that they are created to justify a particular desire of the grantor, and then the ‘bid’ construct is built to restrain choice to a single particular. Sometimes with regards to equipment, or EXISTING software there are actual criteria with regards to EXISTING specs which can be the bricks around which the construct is created. I have never PERSONALLY seen it any other way.
In this case, a no bid was awarded to a classmate of the 1st lady. I IMAGINE it was built around some past experience of this outfit, CGI Federal, or some unique character of their development dept.
No matter. The fat is in the fire.
The Daily Caller repeatedly contacted CGI Federal for comment. After publication of this article, the company responded that there would be “nothing coming out of CGI for the record or otherwise today.” The company did however insist that The Daily Caller include a reference to vice president Cheryl Campbell’s House testimony. This has been included as a courtesy to the company.
Ms. Campbell’s testimony which I had the opportunity to watch live, was in my opinion, UNQUESTIONABLY a spew of words so jargon loaded as to bury the impatient and then bleary eyed committeemen and ladies into quiescence of some sort. Of course, so were the other 2 testimonies I could STAND to listen to. It was in the midst of this vomitus, btw, that Waxman told the world that Obamacare was a success except for web site.
Having written, and been project manager for this sort of stuff, it is not credible that those in charge of any section of this clattering train did not know the disaster that awaited except thru purposefully non testing so as to avoid the knowledge in the fact that the software was not and might never be ready.
And so back to the contract. Given the importance of this law to Obama, and to the way history has looked at Social Security, and Medicare as societal changing moments, what the fuck was Obama thinking when he let a no bid go to his wife’s pal? Or was some underling, aware of the relationship  and knowing HOW THE CHICAGO WAY WORKS, ensure that this played out this way?
Poorly conceived. Poorly executed. Filled with ‘the dog ate my homework’, and the blame game, and finally denial so incredible that those buried in it, actually manage to convince themselves and each other of an alternate reality.
Either way, this roll out IS the Obama Administration. Delusion giving rise to outrage. Poor strategic choice whose defense in failure is driving divisiveness.
That is what history will record, and on a no bid?
Hysterical.
Deserving.
Third world.
Now, the USA.
We voted for THIS.

Israel issues warning on report on Iran bomb

From USA Today:

A new report that says Iran may need as little as a month to produce enough uranium for a nuclear bomb is further evidence for why Israel will take military action before that happens, an Israeli defense official said Friday.
"We have made it crystal clear – in all possible forums, that Israel will not stand by and watch Iran develop weaponry that will put us, the entire Middle East and eventually the world, under an Iranian umbrella of terror," Danny Danon, Israel's deputy defense minister told USA TODAY.
Iran is developing and installing new and advanced centrifuges that enable Iran to enrich even low-enriched uranium to weapons grade uranium needed for nuclear weapons within weeks, Danon said.
"This speedy enrichment capability will make timely detection and effective response to an Iranian nuclear breakout increasingly difficult," he said.
"Breakout" refers to the time needed to convert low-enriched uranium to weapons-grade uranium. On Thursday, the Institute for Science and International Security issued a report stating that Iran could reach that breakout in as little as one month based in part on Iran's own revelations about its nuclear program.
"If they use all their centrifuges ... and their stockpiles of low- and medium-enriched uranium, that would take one to 1.6 months," said David Albright, president of the institute and a former inspector for the U.N. International Atomic Energy Agency.
The report comes as the White House is trying to persuade Congress not to go ahead with a bill to stiffen sanctions on Iran to force it to open up its program to inspection. The White House on Thursday invited senate staffers to a meeting on Iran strategy for negotiations that are to resume next month with Iran, it said.

The Obamacare Website Violates Federal Privacy Laws, Web Designer In Charge Declares She Was Only Following Orders, Whose Orders? She Doesn't Know

From IB Times:
U.S. Rep. Joe Barton, R-Texas, made the claim based on a report in the conservative publication the Weekly Standard. He was speaking during a hearing run by the House Energy and Commerce committee Thursday titled "PPACA Implementation Failures: Didn't Know or Didn't Disclose?"
Barton said part of the source code in the program that runs the Obamacare website reads that users should have “no reasonable expectation of privacy about communication or data stored on the system.” The Texas Republican claimed that line of source code, which cannot be viewed by a user on HealthCare.gov., violates the health care privacy law commonly known asHIPAA, or the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996.
“How in the world can't his website be HIPAA-compliant when HIPAA is designed to protect the patient’s privacy?” Barton asked Cheryl Campbell ofCGI Federal, one of the prime contractors on the HealthCare.gov website.
Campbell said it was the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services that made the decision to put that source code into the program. She admitted that CGI Federal was aware of that phrase being in the source code, but she did not directly answer Barton’s question.
“You know it’s not HIPAA-compliant; admit it,” Barton said. “You’re under oath. Your company is the company that put this together. We’re telling every American … that you sign up for this or even attempt to, you have no expectation of privacy. That is a direct contradiction of HIPAA and you know it.”

Unfortunately, Joe Barton does not understand his terminology, which in the end, weakened the point of his line of questioning.

IT IS NOT THE SOURCE CODE WHICH STATES THERE IS NO REASONABLE EXPECTATION OF PRIVACY.

INSTEAD, IT IS THE TERMS OF SERVICE, as we reported on HERE and HERE and HERE at Infidel Bloggers Alliance.

But, while that may mitigate and weaken Barton's point, it certainly does not mean he was wrong. And, I thank him for bringing it up.

When Barton questioned Cheryl Campbell about whether she was aware that users of the Obamacare website "have no reasonable expectation of privacy", she said she was aware, but that it was not her decision.

When Barton asked her if this was a violation of the HIPAA law on the privacy of one's medical records, Campbell said that this was not a decision which was under her jurisdiction, claiming she was only a contractor, and did not get involved in legalities.

Then Barton asked her, "Are you an American citizen?" She said, "Yes." And, this is when he said, "You know it's not HIPAA-compliant, admit it."

She still would not take any responsibility for having built a website whose governing rules are a violation of Federal privacy laws.

When Barton asked Campbell in whose hands the responsibility lay, she said, "IT IS A BODY OF PEOPLE."

I heard this testimony on the radio yesterday. It reminded me of the War Crimes trials of Nazi leaders after WWII, where one leader after another declared, in the face of evidence of their crimes, "I WAS ONLY FOLLOWING ORDERS."

And while that is bad enough, quite frankly, this testimony from Cheryl Campbell also reminded me of the Soviet Union.

We are being led by a government of unelected bureaucrats who are not responsible to anyone for the policies they carry through, and do not know from whence the policies emanate.

As Vaclav Havel wrote:
“...[Socialism] touches people at every step, but it does so with its ideological gloves on.
This is why life in the system is so thoroughly permeated with hypocrisy and lies: government by bureaucracy is called popular government; the working class is enslaved in the name of the work ing class; the complete degradation of the individual is presented as his ultimate liberation; depriving people of information is called making it available; the use of power to manipulate is called the public control of power, and the arbitrary abuse of power is called observing the legal code; the repression of culture is called its development; the expansion of imperial influence is presented as support for the oppressed ...

Feds confiscate investigative reporter’s confidential files during raid

From the Daily Caller:
A veteran Washington D.C. investigative journalist says the Department of Homeland Security confiscated a stack of her confidential files during a raid of her home in August — leading her to fear that a number of her sources inside the federal government have now been exposed.
In an interview with The Daily Caller, journalist Audrey Hudson revealed that the Department of Homeland Security and Maryland State Police were involved in a predawn raid of her Shady Side, Md. home on Aug. 6.
Hudson is a former Washington Times reporter and current freelance reporter.
A search warrant obtained by TheDC indicates that the August raid allowed law enforcement to search for firearms inside her home.
The document notes that her husband, Paul Flanagan, was found guilty in 1986 to resisting arrest in Prince George’s County.
The warrant called for police to search the residence they share and seize all weapons and ammunition because he is prohibited under the law from possessing firearms. But without Hudson’s knowledge, the agents also confiscated a batch of documents that contained information about sources inside the Department of Homeland Security and the Transportation Security Administration, she said.
Outraged over the seizure, Hudson is now speaking out. She said no subpoena for the notes was presented during the raid and argues the confiscation was outside of the search warrant’s parameter.
“They took my notes without my knowledge and without legal authority to do so,” Hudson said this week. “The search warrant they presented said nothing about walking out of here with a single sheet of paper.”

Oregon court thinks prosecutor shouldn't have argued sex offender was influenced by sharia

The Portland Mercury wrote about a sexual abuse and drug case where an Iranian immigrant provided 2 high school girls with cocaine and later molested one of them. And they along with an appeals court think the prosecutor in Wash. County shouldn't have brought up sharia as the pervert's influence:
Shahin Farokhrany is Iranian, and in 2009 allegedly supplied cocaine to two high school girls before trying to have oral sex with one of them in his Washington County apartment.

The latter part got Farokhrany convicted on a bevy of felony charges. His nationality has earned him a new trial.

The Oregon Court of Appeals today ruled [pdf] a Washington County prosecutor in Farokhrany's case probably improperly influenced the jury by suggesting the man might have been influenced by Sharia—the religious law of Islam—in committing the crimes, and the trial judge should have corrected the matter.
No, I don't think he had to. Religions can come in many different forms and ideas, both good and bad, and if the prosecutor knew what Islam is like, he had every right to ask challenging queries. But the paper doesn't think so, and they're being very stupid to act as apologist, just every other MSM outlet that does the same.

Furthermore, if the man committed a violent felony, then they're being very dumb to let his nationality/religion "earn" him a retrial when he belongs in the pen. I hope the court reviewing this case now will choose wisely and keep him in prison till he's toothless.

Kathleen, you DO work for me, but I don’t want you to resign

I WANT YOU CANNED RIGHT NOW
FROM National Review:
Health and Human Services secretary Kathleen Sebelius responded moments ago to questions about whether she will resign in the wake of the Affordable Care Act’s problematic rollout. Her response is raising some eyebrows.
“My goal is to actually get the website up and running,” she told reporters. “The majority of people calling for me to resign I would say are people who I don’t work for and who do not want this program to work in the first place. I have had frequent conversations with the president and I have committed to him that my role is to get the program up and running and we will do just that.”
A group of 33 House Republicans on Wednesday sent a letter to President Obama calling for her resignation. ”The scope of the problem is so great that, were this a private company or military command, the CEO or general would have been fired,” they wrote. “We are, therefore, calling on you to hold Secretary Sebelius accountable for the fiasco that is HealthCare.gov and ask for her resignation.”

Video - Celebrities "Stop Watching US!" they Blast Obama’s Surveillance State, Repeatedly Invoke Richard Nixon

From Will at THE OTHER NEWS:

Video - Celebrities "Stop Watching US!" they Blast Obama’s Surveillance State, Repeatedly Invoke Richard Nixon.HT: NewsBusters.By Matthew Sheffield.

Actors Maggie Gyllenhaal, John Cusack, and Will Wheaton and director Oliver Stone, are among several others appearing in a new video promoting a march in DC this weekend under the tagline “Stop Watching Us.” Even more interestingly, congressman-for-life John Conyers (a prominent Democrat) also appears in the clip as he and others compare the NSA’s spying on Americans to the Watergate scandal.

No one mentions Obama in the clip but it’s interesting also that no one mentions President Bush either, the man who usually gets the main focus of left-wing ire on such matters.

The clip begins with the leaker of the “Pentagon Papers,” Daniel Ellsberg and then continues in a prolonged narration with each successive person in the frame building on the argument.

“Every American is at risk of getting caught up in the NSA dragnet,” Stone says in his first segment.

Cusak points out, correctly, that the intelligence agency’s data collection also includes average Americans who are not suspects in any crime.

“We’ve been misled,” Conyers states as the clip cuts to testimony of the current U.S. director of national intelligence, James Clapper, outright lying to Congress about domestic surveillance.

The clip then alludes to former President Richard Nixon although it does not state in any sort of detail that staffers working for his campaign had engaged in the planting of secret recording devices inside offices of his rivals at the Democratic Party.

“It was wrong then, it’s wrong now,” Cusack adds. “The tools for surveillance have never been more powerful. And the threat to our civil liberties has never been greater.”

The video continues and then gives a plug for the website “Stop Watching Us” which is an effort supported by an across-the-spectrum group of public policy organizations such as the ACLU, the Electronic Frontier Foundation, the Libertarian Party, and FreedomWorks. Read the full story here.

Ex-CIA chief overheard criticising Obama administration in 'off-record' interviews on train

From Will at THE OTHER NEWS:

Ex-CIA chief overheard criticising Obama administration in 'off-record' interviews on train.HT:NDtv.
A former CIA and National Security Agency chief was overheard criticizing President Barack Obama's administration on Thursday in what he thought was an anonymous interview, which instead ended up on Twitter.

Retired general Michael Hayden made the mistake of giving a series of interviews to reporters by phone "on background" while riding a train, in public.

Unbeknownst to Hayden, he was sitting near Tom Matzzie, the former Washington director of the liberal, activist MoveOn.org Political Action Committee who immediately divulged the juiciest bits of the exchanges on Twitter.

The NSA spying scandal, CIA secret prisons abroad and Obama's smartphone were all topics of conversation.

Word of Hayden's comments came just hours after reports that the US government has spied on 35 world leaders.

"Former NSA spy boss Michael Hayden on Acela behind me blabbing 'on background as a former senior admin official' Sounds defensive," Matzzie tweeted at 4:20 pm, more than an hour after the express train had left Washington, headed towards New York.

"On Acela listening to former NSA spy boss Michael Hayden give 'off record' interviews. I feel like I'm in the NSA. Except I'm in public."

Hayden was being interviewed by several reporters, likely including Time magazine's Massimo Calabresi according to Matzzie, and asked each time that he only be interviewed as a "former senior administration official."

The former spy chief spoke with the journalists about allegations the US spied on foreign allies, a "famous Blackberry" (Obama's) and was "bragging about rendition and black sites," said Matzzie, who once led US activist campaigns to end the war in Iraq.

An increasingly nervous Matzzie worried he would be found out by Hayden.

"Phone ringing. I think the jig is up. Maybe somebody is telling him I'm here. Do I hide?" he asked some 15 minutes after he started tweeting about Hayden's conversations. "New call. I am totally busted I think."

Although Hayden's office did apparently call him to inform him of the tweets, the former spy chief "graciously" offered Matzzie an interview.

Matzzie, who now runs a renewable energy company, later tweeted: "I have to say. I'm actually a little afraid. The intelligence world is kind of dark and scary."Read the full story here.

The Leftist Narrative About The ACA Is Ramping Up

As Pastorius predicted a few days ago here at IBA:
You just watch: In the next few month the un-affordability of the Affordable Care Act will crystalize coalesce into a new Left narrative. The new narrative will be:

1) GREEDY CAPITALISTS, AT THE INSURANCE COMPANIES AND DRUG COMPANIES, ARE DRIVING UP THE COST OF HEALTHCARE.

2) WE MUST ELIMINATE GREEDY CAPITALISTS FROM THE EQUATION BY MOVING TO A SINGLE-PAYER SYSTEM.

Previously, I had thought the move to a Single Payer System would take a good ten years. But I gotta give credit where credit is due. Barack Obama and his cronies so ingeniously designed this piece-of-shit system to fail that the general population will believe we have no choice but to eliminate Capitalize within three years.

This is Cloward-Piven on Crack.

Obamacare sign up attempt on 10-25, and a word about those new ‘ESTIMATES’ of premiums

I will need the psychiatric portion of this plan very soon.
BTW .. the new (browse your plan) option?
I have received tweets, emails, and comments in other places which have been incredulous, and/or called me a liar so I am going to post the actual plans and figures.
For a plan which covers ~80% of costs  (Gold, no platinum available in Maine) the healthcare.gov is for anyone over 50, ‘estimated’ to be ~$600-675 (this is NOT EVEN the health co-op base rate, btw, which they state on THEIR site as $1,005).
First…
I am area 3, factor=0.9487 (Anthem is NECESSARY since only 1 cardiologist is on the other plan in this ENTIRE area)
I will be 64 on the day this starts, so, my age factor is now 3.0
On bottom line above we can see the Anthem Gold plan factor is NOW 1.6963 and the base rate is $1,250.
Premium = 1250 * 1.6963 * 0.9487 * 3.0
Premium = JOKE. Yo do the arithmetic, it is too horrible to actually print the number out.
OFFICIAL US GOVT ‘ESTIMATE’ = ~10% of actual cost
Of course, I can select the coop, hope for the best in terms of estimate and HAVE ACCESS TO ONE CARDIOLOGIST along with everyone else who goes to this tertiary care medical center (covers area about 1/3 the state of Maine) and then HOPE their base rate is not as the State of Maine site indicates the computation which would NOW be the $3905. Note the prices are going UP.
Is the Obamacare site, and idea STUPID, IGNORANT, OR IS IT THE MINISTRY OF TRUTH?
$3900 or $6034/month? Do the subsidies even matter? Which of my children am I asking for this money every month?
Which of YOUR children am I demanding it from?
I’d rather OPT OUT and take my chances until Dec of NEXT year when I am eligible for what I paid in to my entire working life. 2 Heart attacks and THAT’S how I feel. An easy call.
Unless you have a horrible sickness, and a direct need which cannot be addressed any other way, WOULDN’T YOU FEEL THAT WAY?
This is socialism. These choices, these demands, these guilts, these slyly addicted means of dependence.
They want us to be boiled frogs, don’t they?

Brunei's sultan plans to impose gore-laden sharia

Radio Australia says that the sultan of the Islamic-dominated country of Brunei is planning to impose sharia of the most graphic kind upon the public:
The Sultan of Brunei plans to enforce the tough Islamic penal code in phases over the next six months.

Punishments under the Hudud code, which applies only to Muslims, can include stoning to death for adultery, severing of limbs for theft and flogging for violations ranging from abortion to alcohol consumption.

The director of the Islamic Renaissance Front, Dr Ahmad Farouk Musa, told Radio Australia's Asia Pacific program he believes the new laws will lead to the erosion of personal freedoms and women's rights.

"This what is going to happen to Brunei, and we have heard about the Saudi sharia law, about Hudud, about how this one lady, a maid, who was being beheaded because she thwarted an attempt by her employer to rape her and inadvertently killed her employer," he said.

The decision to change the law will make Brunei the only east Asian country to do so at a national level.
What if it gets worse, and the influence spreads to other countries, even affecting Thailand and the Phillipines, who've got their own problems with Islamofascism? This is an extremely horrible case, and the worst part is that most western governments won't say a word in protest.

Centre for Counterterrorism Threatens our Lives

I have been taking an online course entitled "Terrorism and Counterterrorism," given by the Director of the Centre for Terrorism and Counterterrorism (CTC) at Leiden University in The Hague, Edwin Bakker ( ebakker@icct.nl). This week's lectures have attempted to show that terrorism is not "predominantly anti-Western." Indeed, less than 17 lives were lost to terrorism in Western Europe in 2012. Bakker thus concludes that fear of terrorism is unwarranted in the West.
From a culturist perspective (in which civilizations differ and clash), the West (Christendom) is the historic heart of Christianity. Thus all attacks on Christianity are ultimately aimed at us. Using the pan-Christian measure, the anti-West terrorism total rises to 20 attacks, claiming 64 lives in just December of 2012. But even then, counting isolated incidents does not allow us to understand the nature of Islamic conquest as seen in the pending Muslim genocides of Christians in Egypt, Sudan, Nigeria, Iraq, and Syria.
Terrorism is just a technique. The aim of terrorism, which we should fear, is Islamic domination. Mr Bakker should note that his own Netherlands has 40 no-go zones. In fact, his city, The Hague, has one known as the Sharia Triangle. If Bakker gets beaten in the Triangle, he will not count it as terrorism because no bombs were used, it is only an isolated incident, and has no stated political aims. From a culturist perspective, even the threat of violence for going into such an area has a political end: Islamic domination – it too is terrorism.

"I Mean, Who Would Want To Work In America?"

The Welfare Queen

From Snopes:

Origins:   The video clip shown above of a young woman discussing the ease of obtaining public assistance benefits in California and the use (and misuse) of those benefits via the state's EBT (Electronic Benefit Transfer) program has been widely circulated on the Internet since the latter half of 2011, usually under titles such as "California Poster Girl" or "Parasites Are Devouring the Host Culture." It's a difficult item to classify, because while it wouldn't be accurate to maintain there is no truth to what is expressed in the video clip, it also isn't the case (as many viewers assume) that the interviewee is expressing her own personal experience in using the public assistance system or advocating the subject she's discussing.

The woman shown in the video is LaToya Hicks, a "new R&B Pop artist" who records under the name of Chapter. The clip is an excerpt from a longer interview in which Chapter discusses her life, her music, and the background of the characters and situations woven throughout the tracks on her album Chapter 1: Young and Restless:

Specifically, the portion of the interview excerpted in the circulated video clip is Chapter's comments on the inspiration behind her song "It's Free Swipe Yo EBT," the premise of which is described thusly:

Keywanda is having the time of her life. Her job is raising her family of 10 children while dealing with the drama and stress of the children's fathers. Thanks to the great state of California, Keywanda can support her lifestyle of having fun, getting "Turnt Up" and the kids can even get to eat from time to time.

"It's Free Swipe Yo EBT" has been described as everything from a song that unfairly mocks black women on public assistance programs to a satire that lampoons California's welfare system. Chapter herself said of the song in an interview that:
Q: Your single "It's Free, Swipe Your EBT" has received over 200,000 hits on YouTube. Was your intent to poke fun at the ways people abuse EBT or how easy it is to get government assistance? What do you hope to gain from the success of the song?

A: When I put that song out I just thought people would laugh about it. I never imagined that the type of backlash that has occurred would even take place. I came up with the idea to paint a picture to people as an exaggeration. The song is actually a reflection of my childhood in that my mother had multiple kids and was abusing government assistance.

I'm definitely not judging anybody and I don't hold any resentment toward my mother, but I want people to know that you have to treat your kids with respect not just like a paycheck. You never know, one day that child might grow up and write a song about it.
