What Is Going On With Trump, China, and Hong Kong?

My sense is Trump may have finally found a mountain he can't climb ... at least for now.

It seems to me the face that China was having problems in Trade Negotiations with the U.S., AND the situation in Hong Kong AT THE SAME TIME,

would have made China MORE vulnerable at the Trade negotiation table.

But instead, "Trump backed down."

I wonder if maybe I am misunderstanding something.

Any thoughts?

HERE'S A THOUGHT FROM A COMMENTER AT CONSERVATIVE TREEHOUSE:
Communist China is trying to implement direct rule in HK because there are no tariffs on HK goods.
And so the thinking might go, Trump calling off trade tariffs shuts down the impetus for China to push Hong Kong any further ...

Well, I am not sure about that. They already see our unwillingness to act. They might as well just push the whole way, and take Hong Kong entirely.

No one will resist, except the soon to be dead Hong Kong protestors.

Perhaps US should sanction Chicom goons' American enablers beginning with Google.

That's actually a really good idea.
