Potential NeverTrump Candidate Beto O'Rourke: You're Damn Right I'll Yank Churches' Tax-Exempt Status Unless They Start Performing Gay Weddings! Elizabeth Warren Also Calls for Destroying Religion

Don Lemon, an openly gay CNN anchor, moderated Beto’s time in the barrel during the forum. Lemon asked O’Rourke if he supports revoking the tax-exempt status for religious institutions such as churches, colleges, and charities if they don't support gay marriage.
His answer is yes.
The in-studio audience applauded in approval.
“There can be no reward, no benefit, no tax break, for anyone or any institution, any organization in America that denies the full human rights and the full civil rights of every single one of us," O'rourke said. "And so, as president, we’re going to make that a priority, and we are going to stop those who are infringing upon the human rights of our fellow Americans."
Got that? Robert Francis O'Rourke will punish churches for preaching religious doctrine by yanking tax exemptions.
GO READ THE WHOLE THING.

I love this shit.

I wish he had been as honest when he ran for the SEnate in Texas.

Now at least I dont have to ever worry about him representing me.

Democrats are not constrained on the least by the Constitution.

Meanwhile those who do not attend churches will continue to help pay for those who do. Such rejection of the approved metaphysical viewpoint must not be without cost, First Amendment notwithstanding.

As RRA implies above, the whole "tax deductible contribution" racket should be abolished. This is the biggest, most abusive, income tax shelter for the super wealthy and this benefit was actually INCREASED by the 2018 Trump Tax Bill.

Simply put, a wealthy individual can contribute up to 60% of their adjusted gross income to their own charitable foundation. (Think Clinton Foundation.) They take a tax deduction for the full amount. The foundation is basically a slush fund administered by a board of directors consisting of the donor's heirs, proxies, and assigns for the benefit of the donor.

This is how Warren Buffet, that disingenuous con-man, can claim his secretary pays a higher rate of tax than he does. Because he takes full advantage of the tax favored, self-serving foundation he formed years ago with Bill Gates.

Note that abolishing tax deductible contributions will NOT effect the operation of income tax exempt not-for-profits as long as they are obtaining revenue for exempt function purposes.

I have no problem with their being no tax exemption for religious organizations. I have a problem using or threatening to use the tax code to punish speech, religious expression, or assembly.

The 1st Amendment says:

CONGRESS SHALL MAKE NO LAW respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Congress is in charge of taxation. Congress pass legislation to tax.

That is a law.

Back to the beginning:

CONGRESS SHALL MAKE NO LAW RESPECTING AN ESTABLISHMENT OF RELIGION.

NO LAW

NO TAX LEGISLATION.

NOTHING!
