"The United States of America began in 1776, not 1619."
"The United States of America began in 1776, not 1619."
That one sentence is the thesis statement of “1776”—a non-partisan black-led response to the New York Times’s “1619 Project” initiative, which launched last week at D.C.’s National Press Club.
I am pleased and proud to be a part of 1776, along with founder Bob Woodson, Glenn Loury, Coleman Hughes, Jason Hill, Carol Swain, John Wood, Taleeb Starkes, Robert Cherry, and many others. From my perspective as a member, 1776 has three core goals:
(1) rebutting some outright historical inaccuracies in the 1619 Project;
(2) discussing tragedies like slavery and segregation honestly while clarifying that these were not the most important historical foundations of the United States; and
(3) presenting an alternative inspirational view of the lessons of our nation’s history to Americans of all races."

The 1619 Project denies millions of early colonists, and their later generations who proudly became Americans, their own story.
Let's not discuss the starvation and early deprivations of the colonists. AOW and I toured the museum at Jamestown which showcased in beautiful display cases the utter dietary deprivations of the Jamestown colonists.
Let's not discuss the pioneers who traveled in covered wagons to settle this great land. My grandmother traveled in such manner.
My great great grandfather was the last Caucasian man scalped by and Indian Chief in Oklahoma. Let's not discuss it.
What about the Jewish diaspora, the Irish who came during the potato famine> What about the children who laboured during the industrial revolution so they could grow up, marry, have families of their own?
History is not centered on the one. It is E Pluribus Union. A glorious history which showcases the innovation, liberty, and advances of democracy across centuries.
Only black lives matter. And the tilt against the remainder of us is insulting.
Absolutley correct!
Pasto,
this has nothing to do with Black people, and everything to do with disgusting people trying to foment a Communist Revolution.
Exactly! But every day in classrooms all over the United States -- middle school, high school, and college -- the fomenting continues as our young people are brainwashed.
