Supreme Court overrules a 90-year-old precedent and frees the president to fire independent agency heads
The Supreme Court ruled today that President Trump can remove Federal Trade Commission members at will, and in doing so it overruled Humphrey's Executor, the 1935 decision that has protected independent agencies for nine decades. The case is Trump v. Slaughter, and it reshapes the federal bureaucracy.
The fight began when Trump fired the FTC's two Democratic commissioners, Rebecca Slaughter and Alvaro Bedoya, early in his second term. He did not claim cause. He simply said their service no longer fit his administration's priorities. Federal law says FTC commissioners can be removed only for inefficiency, neglect of duty, or malfeasance. Slaughter sued to get her job back and won below.
The Court reversed. Chief Justice Roberts, writing for the majority, said the Constitution vests executive power in one president who must be able to remove the officers who wield that power on his behalf. Because the FTC clearly exercises executive power, he wrote, its commissioners answer to the president. Humphrey's Executor, he said, has long been a result in search of a rationale, and the Court let it go.
The vote was 6 to 3. Roberts was joined by Thomas, Alito, Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, and Barrett. Sotomayor dissented, joined by Kagan and Jackson.

A radical teacher has sparked an uproar after deciding to marry a radical Muslim living in Gaza to help him become an American citizen.
As The New York Post reported on Saturday, Laura Pinho announced via a June 16 CODEPINK Zoom webinar called “Challenging Zionism In Our Schools” that she had married Salem Abu Amra.
Pinho, a dance teacher at Canoga Park Senior High School in California, said marrying Abu Amra was one way to “equalize the playing field.”
“I have power as an American citizen. I have a passport that I was just born with, and how can I live in this world if I don’t make every effort to equalize the playing field on whatever way that I can,” she boasted in the webinar.
Pinho has said that she first met her husband through mutual friends on Facebook and that she had donated money to him.
The Post obtained records showing that Pinho and Abu Amra were married on April 5 in Utah. The state allows marriages to be conducted via Zoom.
A month before their marriage, Pinho organized a GoFundMe for Abu Amra. She claimed he was the primary caregiver for a family of five.
The Department of Homeland Security has said it’s unclear whether Abu Amra has entered the United States. The Post notes that he once posted an image on Facebook honoring an Islamic Jihad terrorist.
More disturbingly, Pinho has a 5-year-old child with her former partner, Derek J. Reid, 51, an improv coach who also lives at her home.
Reid provided details to the Post on how their relationship fell apart:
Reid told The Post that he and Pinho were domestic partners and never officially married, and that they’re currently separated and the two sleep in different rooms at the same address. He said he had no knowledge of her marriage to Abu Amra.
He said their relationship dissolved partially over Israel — she left the church the two used to attend together over its stance on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
“She’s been radicalized — I don’t know anything about that… the crowd she runs with… I’m worried for her,” Reid said.

I was also a guy who spent his days skateboarding and playing baseball and basketball, so I also had a lot of friends who tended towards the jock side of the spectrum.

My parents didn't take me to art galleries. My parents stayed home all the time, watching TV and alternately arguing with each other, or ignoring each other.
I hate to say it, but it's true. My parents were basically good people but it's true.
Anyway, as such, I was the guy who was defending gay people. I truly felt I owed gay people a debt of gratitude. I became very aware of the outsized contribution of gay people to the arts.
But in the last few years I have not felt so predisposed to defend gay people, TO SAY THE LEAST. Why? Because I don't hear people coming out against the pedophiliac agenda of Transgender Genital Mutilation of children.

The European Union could have its first deportation centres operating outside its borders before the end of 2027 and could even begin establishing them as early as next year.
That was the message from Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen in an interview with the Financial Times, in which she said that several European governments are already working alongside the European Commission to turn into reality one of the most controversial migration proposals of recent years and one of the key priorities championed by patriotic movements seeking to reverse the damage caused by years of uncontrolled immigration.
According to Frederiksen, there is a genuine "coalition of the willing"--using the phrase normally associated with European countries unconditionally supporting Ukraine--among several member states that aims to develop these return hubs in third countries with European funding.
The Social Democratic leader said that preparations are already sufficiently advanced for the first centre to become operational within a relatively short timeframe. Her position demonstrates that concerns about immigration are not merely ideological but also a matter of effective governance.
Her comments come only days after nineteen EU member states publicly endorsed the possibility of financing similar structures with European funds, inspired by the model established by Italy in Albania. The European Commission has also confirmed that the necessary legislative framework is already in place and that it is now up to member states to submit concrete proposals.
The shift is difficult to overlook. For years, outsourcing migration management beyond Europe's borders was considered both a political and legal taboo. When Denmark proposed transferring asylum seekers to Rwanda in 2021, the initiative triggered strong criticism from human rights organisations, left-wing parties, and numerous European governments.
Today, the debate is no longer about whether such a system should exist, but about how it should be implemented. The question is no longer what, but when.

Zohran Mamdani’s growing influence over the Democratic party was on show in New York City on Tuesday as three congressional candidates endorsed by New York’s democratic socialist mayor won closely watched primaries, while voters in Maryland, Utah and South Carolina cast ballots in primaries and runoffs.What makes this additionally disturbing is that Goldman was attacked in a social media post by Poetica Coffee, which is reportedly owned by Uzbek managers, for his pro-Israel positions. The DOJ opened an investigation into this incident, but sadly, the damage is done in more ways than one, given that Mamdani saw success with his repellent endorsements.

And in a stunning upset, the public defense investigator Darializa Avila Chevalier toppled Representative Adriano Espaillat, the powerful five-term incumbent who chairs the Congressional Hispanic caucus, in the state’s diverse 13th congressional district, which covers Upper Manhattan and parts of the Bronx.
