D-Day Invasion Stripes

Just before D-Day all allied aircraft were painted with "invasion stripes" like the B-26 above. I couldn't find anything on the internet about who had the idea to do this or gave the order. The purpose was to help allied soldiers identify friendly aircraft:

Air Force history records show how all Allied aircraft were painted with"invasion stripes" of alternating black and white bands completely aroundfuselages and wings. Pedone said the stripes on his C-47 and other aircraftwould easily identify them as friendly to ships and troops below.

The hope was the stripes would prevent trigger-happy AAA gunners from shooting down the good guys. Although, the flyboys made their share of blunders:

The relationship between the IX TAC [Tactical Air Command] and the First Army was exceptional. The IX TAC used a microwave radar, the MEW 10, for flight following and kept accountability of their high-altitude flights. Because of this, the last-minute decision to paint invasion stripes on allied aircraft, and the opportunity to see both friendly and enemy aircraft fratricide was dramatically reduced in the European Theater of Operations. Unfortunately, the Army Air Force continued to attack friendlies, despite the standardization of recognition symbols, such as yellow smoke. The situation got so bad that, shortly after D-Day, the commander of the 30th Division ordered his AW battalion commander to fire at "all" airplanes, especially friendlies.

Some squadrons went for the natural look, but still had the stripes.




I remember reading somewhere that some British pilots told the American P-51 drivers that the metal finish was a bad idea because the Germans would be able to spot them from hundreds of miles away. The Americans answered "good." They were flying the baddest buggy around and they wanted the Luftwaffe to come up for a scrap.

A Warning To All Infidels: Don't Believe A Word That Comes Out Of Canadian Terrorist Lawyers Mouths

I don't believe that the Royal Candian Mounted Police, nor the Canadian intelligence service believed Steven Vikash Chand had a real shot at "beheading the Prime Minister" of Canada. And yet, this sensationalist headline is everywhere today.

Spectators and family members of some of the 17 Muslim men accused of plotting terror attacks in Canada were stunned Tuesday when they heard allegations of plans to storm Parliament, take hostages and behead the prime minister.

Authorities during a hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice further alleged that one of the suspects, Steven Vikash Chand, also plotted to take over media outlets, including Canadian Broadcasting Corp.

The details of the charges _ notably the purported plot to take political leaders hostage and behead them if Muslim prisoners were not freed in Afghanistan _ added a chilling dimension to a case that has led U.S. authorities to toughen security along the border and unsettled Canada's large Muslim community.

Police say they expect more arrests, and intelligence officers are probing whether 12 adults and five juveniles arrested over the weekend had any ties to Islamic terror cells in the United States and five nations in Europe and Asia.

Chand, a 25-year-old restaurant worker from Toronto, was one of 15 suspects who made brief court appearances Tuesday. They were held behind a glass enclosure, brought in as groups of four or five, chained together in ankle shackles and handcuffs.

Chand, bearded with shoulder-length hair, blew a kiss to supporters as he was led away as formal bail hearings for him and the 14 others were postponed until at least Monday.

"There's an allegation apparently that my client personally indicated that he wanted to behead the prime minister of Canada," said Chand's lawyer, Gary Batasar.

"It's a very serious allegation. My client has said nothing about that." Speaking outside the courthouse, Batasar said the charges were based on fear-mongering government officials.

"It appears to me that whether you're in Ottawa or Toronto or Crawford, Texas, or Washington, D.C., what is wanting to be instilled in the public is fear," he said.


Yes, that's right Mr. Batasar, you are attempting to instill fear of the Infidel in the minds and hearts of those of the Islamic community. Mr. Batasar planted this story in the media, not the police.

The Reuters story is the same, however, the headline is "Canada Plot Suspect Accused Of Plan To Behead PM."

Reuters, in my opinion, is attempting to make th RCMP and Canadian anti-terrorism officials look stupid.

Canada plot suspect accused of plan to behead PM

Gee, imagine, a jihadi plot to cut off the head and 'smite the neck' of a head kufr.

BRAMPTON, Ontario (Reuters) - One of 17 men accused of plotting bombings in major Canadian cities and of training militants also faces an allegation that he sought to behead Prime Minister Stephen Harper, his lawyer said on Tuesday.

Steven Chand, 25, was among 15 members of the alleged terrorist ring who appeared in a heavily guarded courtroom north of Toronto to set dates for bail hearings.

The Muslim men, five of them under the age of 18, were arrested on Friday in Canada's largest counterterrorism operation, and police said more arrests are possible.

Chand's lawyer, Gary Batasar, said his client faced several serious charges and was concerned that intense media interest in the details of the case in Canada and the United States could jeopardize Chand's chances of a fair trial.

Allegations include plans for the "storming and bombing of various buildings," Batasar told reporters.

"There's an allegation apparently that my client personally indicated that he wanted to behead the prime minister of Canada," Batasar said.

In which I profess my disgust if the story is correct

AP: U.S. to Give Iran Nuclear Technology

A package of incentives presented Tuesday to Iran includes a provision for the United States to supply Tehran with some nuclear technology if it stops enriching uranium _ a major concession by Washington, diplomats said.

The offer was part of a series of rewards offered to Tehran by European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana, according to the diplomats, who were familiar with the proposals and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because they were disclosing confidential details of the offer.
The package was agreed on last week by the United States, Britain, France, China and Russia _ the five veto-wielding members of the U.N. Security Council, plus Germany, in a bid to resolve the nuclear standoff with Iran.

So if this is correct can someone, somewhere explain the difference between this choice by George Bush, and the offers made by Clinton to North Korea, a nation WITHOUT a religious reason to cause armageddon?

U.S. Can Handle Oil Disruption

Consumers wouldn't suffer undue hardships in the event Iran disrupts Persian Gulf oil supplies because the Bush administration has a plan "if push were to come to shove," Energy Secretary Samuel Bodman said Tuesday.

Bodman told reporters that in such a scenario, the government would tap its emergency oil reserve. He said he doesn't anticipate an oil supply disruption and said he was speaking hypothetically.

As to any sharp reduction of Iran oil or a disruption in the supply line, Bodman said, "We certainly can handle it for a while. ... There is the Strategic Petroleum Reserve and we have other approaches."

Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said last weekend that if his country is punished because of its nuclear program, Tehran is prepared to disrupt the world's oil supply, including production cuts.

Khamenei said the United States and its allies would be

unable to secure oil shipments passing out of the Persian Gulf through the strategic Strait of Hormuz to the Indian Ocean.

D-Day: Remember the price of peace and freedom

Today, 62 years ago, the West paid once again the price of peace and freedom for our time. And a very dear price it was. D-Day, 6 June 1944, marked the invasion of the European continent by the allied forces. Probably the most complex military operation in human history. Many, many lives were lost on account of that operation.

But it could have been avoided. It would have been avoided were it not for the pacifism that reigned in people's minds during the 1930's. The German rearmament was evident, the intentions of Hitler had been announced by himself (Mein Kampf). Had the European powers of that day that faced Hitler acted in time, this long and deadly war would definitely have been averted. Even at Munich, the Allies were in clear superiority over Germany.

Still, politicians and people in general were willing to avoid war at all cost. Well, history shows us that you cannot avoid a war that is forced upon you. What you can do is postpone it in your own detriment.

And postpone it was what Great Britain and France did. We all know the consequences. Hitler got real close to getting his way. Indeed, for approximately 6 million Jews, he got his way.

This is a day the West should commemorate every year, and use it to think about our time. The West is still the guardian of the Rule of Law, Liberty (in all its manifestations) and Peace. But Peace never comes free. It is costly, and if we should lose the willingness to pay its price every now and then when the bill comes, there will come a time when we will lose it.

It will be upon us whether that time is now or has yet to come. In the meantime, always remember D-Day.

Today, the "continuous government" here in the D.C. area will be conducting an evacuation drill as they do a trial-run to their various bunkers in the suburbs. The bunkers, at least some of which date to the 1950's, have been renovated and updated.

Flaming hoop jumping, explained

I was always curious about why Palestinian Arab terrorists/policemen spend so much time practicing jumping through flaming hoops:


It finally hit me! It isn't, as I conjectured in February, that the "policemen" were staring a circus to cheer up the poor Palestinian Arab children and alleviate the humanitarian crisis.

But the real answer can be seen in another picture, variants of which have been published many dozens of times (כן ירבו):


Notice the relative sizes of the flaming hoops and the burnt out car window.

Palestinian Arab "police" are pursuing a skill that is very practical and much in demand in the territories: they need to practice quickly jumping out of the windows of flaming cars!

'Mom, are we terrorists?'

Several members of a suspected terrorist ring (SOUTH ASIANS) prayed daily at a storefront mosque in a middle-class city west of Toronto but never spoke of hurting others, one of their prayer leaders said.

"I will say that they were steadfast, religious people. There's no doubt about it. But here we always preach peace and moderation," Qamrul Khanson, an imam at the one-room Al-Rahman Islamic Center for Islamic Education, said Sunday. The 40-50 Muslim families who worship at the mosque were astonished, he said, to learn that police had arrested 12 adults, ages 19 to 43, and five suspects younger than 18 on Friday and Saturday, charging them with plotting an attack in southern Ontario. Two Americans who met with the suspects also are in custody.

The group (SOUTH ASIANS) had acquired three tons of ammonium nitrate _ three times the amount used in the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing, said assistant Royal Canadian Mounted Police commissioner Mike McDonell. The bombing of the Murrah Federal Building on April 19, 1995, killed 168 people and injured more than 800.

The fertilizer can be mixed with fuel oil or other ingredients to make a bomb.

Officials said the operation involved some 400 intelligence and law- enforcement officers and was the largest counterterrorism operation in Canada since the nation's Anti-Terrorism Act was adopted after the Sept. 11 attacks. The Toronto Star reported that the investigation began in 2004 with the monitoring of Internet chat rooms (of SOUTH ASIANS).

The Palestinian Arab people's responsibilities

In comments on this posting, VJ claimed that I was demonizing Palestinian Arabs. Although that was not my intent, to an extent he is right, and while perhaps I was not as careful in my wording as I should have been, it got me to thinking about the actual responsibility that Palestinian Arab people (rather than their leaders) have towards a peaceful Middle East.

I strongly feel that nations and peoples have a mass psychology similar to individuals. Sometimes they coincide with their leaders' psyches, sometimes not. These psyches can change over time but it is usually a slow process. Understanding global patterns and knowing how to act properly in any given situation depends on knowing how all the players think and are likely to react, and a fatal mistake that global leaders often make is the assumption that people are all the same and would all act the same way that their own people would.

Yes but it was because they were oppressed

Two men believed to be part of a terrorist ring in Canada were arrested last summer while trying to smuggle guns and ammunition from the United States, authorities said.

Mohammed Dirie, 22, and Yasin Abdi Mohamed, 24, (I think they are SOUTH ASIANS ..doesn't that make you think they are Thai, or maybe frm McMurdo Sound??) were both in jail serving two-year sentences for weapons smuggling when they were hit with new Canadian terrorism charges Friday.

The men were among 12 adults and five suspects younger than 18 charged with plotting an attack in southern Ontario.

Dirie and Mohamed, both Somali immigrants living in Kingston, Ontario, were arrested Aug. 13 after being questioned and searched by Canadian Border Services inspectors at Peace Bridge between Buffalo and Canada.

The inspectors found Mohamed had a semiautomatic handgun taped under his clothes, and Dirie had two handguns taped to his inner thighs, the Toronto Star reported. Officers also found about 200 rounds of ammunition in bags. It was not known where the men had obtained the weapons, the newspaper said.

Selling out the Dutch

After disposing of Ayaan Hirsi Ali and the non-election of Rita Verdonk as leader of the VVD, Dutch politics is ready for the next step in their project to betray the country for a few extra votes.

Last week PvdA leader Wouter Bos accused CDA fraction leader Maxime Verhagen of threatening "the Lords' Peace" with Verhagens opposition to the growing influence of islam in the Netherlands. The central thesis behind this accusation was that being critical of islam apparently threathens social stability and coherence. One has to wonder though, why that would be so. For years the Left (predominantly) have been very critical of Christianity without paying a single thought to what the effects might be on 'the Lords Peace'. But now that we are confronted A) with more and more aggressive assertion of Islam in the public sphere and B) a growing realization Islam is problematic in the way it envisions concept like Freedom (there is none), Peace (Only after war. World wide war. Extermination-of-all-infidels war), Equal opportunity (I don't really need to go into that one, do I?) among the non-islamic rest of the Netherlands (1), the 'Lords Peace'(tm) is all of a sudden of prime importance to socialist leader Bos.

That wouldn't have anything to do with the fact that islam might be slightly less inclined to take criticism in stride, now would it? Or with the fact that the PvdA already knows which way the wind is blowing? After the last municipal elections it is abundantly clear to all, and especially to the PvdA what wealth of voters the inner burroughs of large cities provide to ensure power. And how does it matter then, that you have to sell out some of your key principles, like non-discrimination against women? Or that you betray even your own self? As Ephimenco (NL) points out rather astutely, Bos himself in the recent past was fully in favor of a 'tough discussion' on some of Islams problems. But hell, Bos has a rep to protect, doesn't he. That in this case it's a reputation of being a political weather vane is also of no importance.

All this is part and parcel to what we've come to expect from the heirs of the socialists of old. However, also on the Dutch right (or rather, the Dutch not-so-left) manouvres to 'integrate' inner cities minorities have become a priority ever since the last municipal elections, where the effect of minority votes was the determining factor. Hence the election of Mark Rutte over Rita Verdonk as leader of the VVD fraction.

And hence the re-orientation of the CDA towards the city, whereas traditionally they were the party of farmers and the country (of those, in short, that form the most reliable groups, the backbone of Dutch society as we know it). Just this week, the CDA issued a strategy paper, entitled 'De stad spreekt' (The city speaks), which encourages members to free themselves of their 'provincial bedding' (NL) and cast their eyes more towards the city. That means 'almost automatically renewed attention for immigrants, that form an increasing part of the city's population'. The title of the op-ed piece linked to sums up the situation quite nicely: He who wins the fight over the migrant vote conquers the city.

And that's all there is to it. The big three on Dutch politics, the CDA, the VVD and the PvdA have discovered the migrant vote. And due to the maddening confusion of terms prevalent in Dutch civil discussion(1), the migrant vote is not the migrant vote, but actually the muslim vote. Methinks the islamization of the Netherlands is truely about to start.

(1) The growing of the realization that islam is a problem becomes clear when you read the results of the 'Racism' study done by the Motivaction buro. Esther of Islam in Europe has a good break-down of the numbers and an explanation of why it seems that the Dutch have gone from the most tolerant to the seemingly most bigoted (safe for the Danes, maybe) people of Europe in the course of only a few years.

We don't mind foreigners. Really. We do mind ascribers to a religion that is tireless in it's conquest of Dutch public space. That those believers are predominantly foreign is an unfortunate 'coincidence'. And that civil discourse in the Netherlands is still totally not ready to acknowledge the distinction between resistance to foreigners and resistance to a foreign ideology coming to conquer and subdue us doesn't bode well for the immediate future (as Esther also points out).
