When criticism of Islam is damned as Islamophobia and only positive statements are allowed, you soon have a fairy tale that whitewashes Islamic culture. Tiger Hawk comments on the latest pro-Islamic propaganda by the Independent.
Of course, as Ibn Warraq has long noted, scientists working in Classical Islamic culture achieved significant discoveries because of the influence of the remnants of Greek & Hindu culture in spite of Islam—not because of it. Averroes fought gallantly to maintain Hellenic thought in Arab/Islamic culture but he lost the battle (see Tiger’s article.) After al-Ghazali ended the influence of Greek Philosophy, scientific inventions dwindled to a trickle. Coincidence?

All very reminiscent of Stalinism, where everything was invented by Russian peasants who then had their ideas stolen and patented by evil Western capitalists etc etc.
Seriously though. What contribution has RoP made to global (not just Western) culture since 1500AD ?
Only one that I know of - the Jihad Beheading Snuff Video as a totally new creative genre in cinema. The prototype starred Daniel Pearl, and was so popular in mosques worldwide that they just had to keep making sequels.
Suppose it's Pakistan's answer to Bollywood.
