Here’s a perfect example of why Islam, as it stands today, can never co-exit with a 21st century civilization. Muslim Court Finally Deals Some Justice in Rape Case.

It's taken a year but rape victim Imrana has finally seen the Muslim court sentence her father-in-law to ten years in prison and a fine, most of which is to go to the victim. This was after some considerations influenced by extreme Muslim clerics.

The solution by Muslim clerics. Don’t punish the father-in-law!

Initially the clerics decreed that the victim and her attacker should marry, but the All India Muslim Personal Law Board did not accept this.

Wait a second. We were wrong. This is what she should do according to the wise clerics.

They then said that, because of the circumstances of the rape, she should now treat her husband as her son.

Umm…no. That’s not right. How about this?

Then, clerics demanded that the husband of the victim, Nur Ilahi, should desert her.

Ah, but justice prevailed.

All these opinions were eventually ignored and Imrana's case given a more logical verdict of imprisonment of her 65-year-old father-in-law, Ali Mohammed.

I wonder whose civilization mores pressured that outcome.

CAIR: No Comment?

Today on Fox News Channel, there was some discussion of the documentary Obsession: Radical Islam's War Against The West, recently released on DVD. The moderator of the discussion stated that CAIR had been invited to participate in the discussion, but had declined.

Now, why is that? One would think that such a discussion on cable news would be an excellent opportunity for CAIR (1) to debunk the film and (2) to issue a call for moderate Muslims to speak out against Islamic radicals.

NYU FORUM ON MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD Islam's Useful Idiots Impugn Truthteller

I notice that you published a report of the meeting last week at NYU on the Moslem Brotherhood. Your report is, unfortunately, full of inaccuracies. I was one of the platform speakers and you will find below my speech as it was delivered. Please compare it against the spiteful and ill-written account from your correspondent. I would be very happy for you to publish it in its present form or to reply to the ludicrous comments in your article. Free speech anyone? Letter here

This is what the enemy does. This is their MO. They lie. It echoes ex-Nazi Hilmar von Campe foreboding remarks at the Walid Shoebat event at Columbia here (audio here) who now lives in Alabama. He was 7 years old in 1933 when the Nazis came to power. He reminded the audience of Josef Goebbels, their chief liar, and the constant repetition of lies, lies and more lies that infected the national consciousness. Constant rhetoric.

The international press cried foul on October 19 after the U.S. denied a visa to a senior Muslim Brotherhood leader. Newsweek, Reuters, ABC News, The National Interest and other media complained that the “moderate” Muslim Association of Britain (MAB) founder Kamal Helbawy was barred from appearing at New York University’s Center for Law and Security. The U.S. also barred entry to Egyptian doctor and MB “guidance counsel” Abd El Monem Abo El Fotouh, who was scheduled to speak in the same discussion on the Muslim Brotherhood.

Helbawy claims to be “moderate.” The U.S. should not prevent “moderates from talking and discussing,” Helbawy stated after being pulled off his flight. El Fotouh is purportedly also temperate.

“At the end of the day, [Islam and the West] have a set of common humanist values: justice, freedom, human rights and democracy,”

he told The Economist in September 2003. Arabists consider El Fotouh “one of the brightest stars” of the MB’s so-called “middle generation.”

The Department of Homeland Security didn’t explain their actions. One can only surmise—and applaud.

Today, the MB still calls for “Building the Muslim state…Building the Khilafa…Mastering the world with Islam.”

MB spiritual leader Yusuf Qaradawi, an Egyptian member of the European Council for Fatwa and Research, likewise calls for an Islamic conquest of Europe (starting with Rome and Italy). “[T]he patch of the Muslim state will expand to cover the whole earth....,” he writes. Qaradawi also praises suicide bombing, readily accepts wife beating and calls upon Muslim women to detonate themselves in order to kill Jews.

Despite all evidence to the contrary, on Oct. 19, the Open Forum on The Muslim Brotherhood nevertheless praised Helbawy and El Fotouh as peaceful moderates, and their organization as a peaceful, just, and moderating influence on Middle East and global politics. Their absence was yet another strike against the Bush administration, executive director Karen Greenberg stated. “This center tries to educate one another, policy makers and the public,” she added—a job Greenberg apparently considers more important than public security.

Former Sunday Times senior reporter Nick Fielding then took the floor. He denied the risks the MB poses to the West. Helbawy is “a wonderful human being,” he stated, adding that the 2005 election of 22 Muslim Brothers to Egypt’s parliament-and the Hamas victory in the January 2006 Palestinian Authority votewere cause for celebration. Fielding objected only to “the reward” Muslims received for their free elections-”the silence of the U.S. State Department in the face of Egyptian government abuse,” and the U.S. and international boycott of the Hamas-controlled PA.

The MB is “reformist,” according to Fielding. It provides “the best possibility in the Middle East of leaders who can make deals and stick to them,” he stated, noting their solid political backing in Jordan, Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria Kuwait and Yemen. The MB, he insisted, has “for the past 30 years…[consistently] followed a non violent” path. The brotherhood’s only problem, Fielding claimed, is its ostracization by such analysts as “The Counterterrorism blog,” whose data he derided.

True democracy would never take root in the Middle East, Fielding predicted. It’s “about as likely as Shari’a being adopted in Washington D.C.,” he joked.

Since then, Lappen has advised me that American Thinker has received complaints from both Mr. Debat and Mr. Fielding as to her representations of their comments.

It is interesting, and ironic, that both Mr. Debat and Mr. Fielding accuse me of leveraging their respective comments on the Muslim Brotherhood for political gain, when their presentations were both so blatantly political.

Indeed, an altered, and shorter, version of Mr. Fielding’s ostensibly neutral Oct. 19 analysis has been posted at the “official” Ikhwan website. Presumably, he sent them this text. In any case, the “official” Brotherhood apparently views Mr. Fielding’s remarks as a political endorsement—similar to Democracy Now’s far-left political “analysis” of the MB’s purportedly softening line.

Everything on which I quoted Mr. Fielding, he said.

Unfortunately, Mr. Fielding’s supposed “speech as it was delivered” is neither complete nor a precise duplicate of his remarks. Possibly, the text he provided to American Thinker and the “official” Ikhwan website served as his outline. In any case, in his delivered remarks, Mr. Fielding strayed from the above-cited text, and added many other points besides. Certain of Mr. Fielding’s quoted statements hailed from the question and answer period, which the above text also excludes.

And some of those remarks—unaccountably not contained in the text of Mr. Fielding’s “speech as it was delivered”— were also cited elsewhere. Mr. Fielding not only described senior Muslim Brotherhood leader and Muslim Association of Britain (MAB) founder Kamal Helbawy as a “wonderful human being,” (as I reported), but also as a “voice of reason,” as he was quoted in the New York Post. The New York Sun likewise reported on the panel’s praise for the MB and its absent speakers.

But Mr. Fielding and Mr. Debat should not pretend to be vindicated by any audio tape of the event, to be posted on the Center’s website( as promised on Oct. 25) “before the end of the year at the latest”—unless it is complete and unedited. But that may not be in the cards. Asked if the Center would post the entire session, including the question and answer period, a spokesman stated, “We are considering editing the content,” a process that could easily also exclude many controversial remarks that I quoted from the respective experts. The excuse is time limitation, although streaming digital MP3 downloads are not limited by time. Who is dishonest now?

In another comment not documented above, Mr. Fielding stated, “Saudi Arabia has never adopted the program of the Muslim Brotherhood.” On this point, moderator Peter Bergen challenged him, noting that Saudi Arabia opened its arms to the MB. Indeed, as I have previously reported with Dr. Rachel Ehrenfeld, the kingdom granted the MB business monopolies, while King Saud funded their establishment of the Islamic University in Medina.

Any Muslim Brotherhood support for terrorism, Mr. Fielding later contended, springs from “wayward connections.” Reports of MB terror financing result from “over imaginative conclusions about how money moves,” he argued. Mr. Fielding admitted that there are “a number of cases where links [can be] seen,” yet he also avowed that the guilty parties in such instances most likely were only “individuals involved.” He concluded, “the Muslim Brotherhood is not a jihadist organization or bent on the destruction of the West.”

The question of whether Islam could politically dominate Europe within a few decades, Mr. Fielding dismissed as “garbage”—“It’s just not true,” he said. Citing Britain as a case in point, he estimated its current Muslim population at “less than two million.” While first generation migrants have a high birth rate, Mr. Fielding said that, barring “mass conversion,” Britain will never be politically ruled by Islam—a point that the audience greeted with laughter.

Mr. Fielding stated that “sometimes the Muslim Brotherhood feels like the Masons,” suggesting a parallel between the Islamist MB and the Freemasons, whose spiritual Masonic Order has been targeted by unfounded conspiracy theories and persecuted by totalitarian regimes. The MB undeniably backs jihad, terror and plans for global domination; the Masons, by contrast, merely open their doors to those interested in joining.

Finally, Mr. Fielding indeed blamed the West’s refusal to recognize Shari’a law in Islamic countries as a “reason for militancy.” He added, in citing another scholar, that countering the spread of jihad organizations requires the West “to address the grievances”—many of them legitimate—of the jihadist movement. Furthermore, Mr Fielding stated—another political comment—that the Muslim Brotherhood should be “supported as strongly as possible” by the West.

If these quotations sound “ludicrous” to Mr. Fielding, I would not disagree. Therefore, he should be more careful when making statements in public forums.

If you look at the hissy fits Muslims throw at the littlest critique of their religion, you have to wonder if the religion of Islam forces its adherents into a state of arrested adolescence.

Like many teenagers, they can’t seem to control their emotional outbreaks – the hallmark of maturity. An article, in, of all places, the Huffington Post, brings this immaturity into stark relief.

In London three years ago, I breezed into one of those phone and fax services where you can make copies, send faxes or place international phone calls from your own booth, for a fee. As I was paying on my way out, the Arab who ran the shop muttered the word "slut" under his breath, almost but not quite too quietly to understand. To the Islamists, western women are the ultimate Material Girls, all flesh and no spirit. They frankly hate us. We represent everything they loathe about modernity. We also present a more deeply personal threat in the reform by example of their head-covered women. On the subway yesterday, I had one of those silent interactions involving the eyes only that women know about. I was sitting across from a fully robed and scarf-ed young Muslim woman. I stared at it rather too long, I suspect, and with a sour look. When I looked down into her eyes, I noticed the young woman boring a defiant look right back into my skull, eyes filled with superior disdain. We stared at each other in this unfriendly way for a few more seconds, then I looked away. I know what I was not saying: The global jihad is really a war to keep her hiding her head in shame under that black polyester cloth. I know what she wanted to say. In her eyes, I am no different than Jessica Simpson, performing fellatio on an ice cream cone on MTV.

By wearing the scarf, Islamic women perpetuate the belief that women are too inherently seductive to be seen by men. Under the scarf, they mutely support the idea that men are too weak to resist their own urges. Male self-restraint, a hallmark of maturity, is not a goal, it's not an option, in their world. On the contrary, Islamist men are assumed not to possess the ability to resist the inherently shameful, and thus utterly sexualized females in their midst. These covered and supposedly humble women are full participants in their own humiliation. They are the Helens of jihad.

That’s why any pundit, politician, world leader or media outlet that thinks immature civilizations like Iran and North Korea have a ‘right’ to the bomb are seriously deluded. Immature societies are not allowed to play with adult toys until they can show self-restraint – the hallmark of maturity.

Will a Virus Steal Your Memory? Your Soul?

Recent research looks at how viral infections can involve the brain, affecting how the memory works. In fact, some of the incidental memory degeneration associated with ageing may be due to past viral infections. Aetiology Blog looks at this issue.

A recent article highlights one area of investigation: how viral infections can influence memory problems......

A family of viruses that cause a range of ills from the common cold to polio may be able to infect the brain and cause steady damage, a team at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota reported on Monday.

"Our study suggests that virus-induced memory loss could accumulate over the lifetime of an individual and eventually lead to clinical cognitive memory deficits," said Charles Howe, who reported the findings in the journal Neurobiology of Disease. [Article can be found here; --TS]

This may seem somewhat far-fetched at first, but we know that viruses certainly can cause severe damage to the brain and nervous system. Therefore, this lends plausibility to the idea that they can cause more minor damage as well. As they note, polio (a picornavirus) is a prime example of this, with the potential to affect the brain and the spinal cord and result in paralysis. A related virus in mice, called Theiler's murine encephalomyelitis virus, has also been used to induce damage to the nervous system (for example, it's used as a mouse model for multiple sclerosis), and researchers infected mice with this and then performed cognitive tests to see if it had more subtle effects as well:

Infected mice later had difficulty learning to navigate a maze. Some were barely affected, while others were completely unable to manage, and when the mice were killed and their brains examined, a correlating amount of damage was seen in the hippocampus region, related to learning and memory.

Now, it's always a bit difficult to extrapolate directly from an animal model to humans, but the study is certainly intriguing and can open doors for epidemiological studies of viruses and cognition in humans.

One virus particularly likely to cause brain damage is enterovirus 71, which is common in Asia, the researchers said. It can cross over into the brain and cause encephalitis, a brain inflammation that can lead to coma and death.

"Our findings suggest that picornavirus infections throughout the lifetime of an individual may chip away at the cognitive reserve, increasing the likelihood of detectable cognitive impairment as the individual ages," the researchers wrote in their report.

"We hypothesize that mild memory and cognitive impairments of unknown etiology may, in fact, be due to accumulative loss of hippocampus function caused by repeated infection with common and widespread neurovirulent picornaviruses."

Army Reserve Sgt. Ryan Gallucci

Then-Spc. Gallucci and his six-member civil affairs team spent almost a year in Iraq between 2003 and 2004 helping to rebuild the infrastructure and improve the quality of life for the Iraqis. The team worked and lived in towns near the Iranian border, performing tasks such as getting schools and municipal governments up and running, and making sure the teachers and workers were on the payroll. Gallucci was responsible for about $4.7 million in public works projects during his deployment. In a village just outside the city of Khanaqin, Gallucci worked closely with Iraqi contractors to build a water pumping station and three wells, and located generators to help run the pumping station. He and his contractors also laid $20,000 worth of pipe, bringing water to several homes for the first time in 17 years. The team also built a landfill outside Khanaqin, and helped get the landfill workers on the payroll. In September 2005, Gallucci was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for his work.

Freedom of Religion and Freedom in Minnesota, and the Muslim Brotherhood

The facts are these:

The Minneapolis St Paul International Airport has been struck by a group of apparently mostly Somali taxi drivers (an excellent job for entry onto the American 'cursus honorum') SOME of whom seem to have decided that allowing normal american (and other) passengers into their cabs, infringes on their religion ..they seem to have received a fatwa...

The fatwa proclaims that "Islamic jurisprudence" prohibits taxi drivers from carrying passengers with alcohol, "because it involves cooperating in sin according to the Islam."

Okay, so don't go the airport, and don't wait near popular bars and nightclubs, right?

But the somalis themselves are both confused and concerned...why?

An animated circle of Somalis gathered when the question of the airport controversy was raised.

"I was surprised and shocked when I heard it was an issue at the airport," said Faysal Omar. "Back in Somalia, there was never any problem with taking alcohol in a taxi."

Jama Dirie said, "If a driver doesn't pick up everyone, he should get his license canceled and get kicked out of the airport."

Two of the Somalis present defended the idea that Islam prohibits cabdrivers from transporting passengers with alcohol. An argument erupted. The consensus seemed to be that only a small number of Somalis object to transporting alcohol. It's a matter of personal opinion, not Islamic law, several men said.

Ahmed Samatar, a nationally recognized expert on Somali society at Macalester College, confirmed that view. "There is a general Islamic prohibition against drinking," he said, "but carrying alcohol for people in commercial enterprise has never been forbidden. There is no basis in Somali cultural practice or legal tradition for that.

"This is one of those new concoctions."It is being foisted on the Somali community by an inside or outside group," he added. "I do not know who."

So what's the deal with the fatwa?

The fatwa is the MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD. The Hassan Al Banna, Blind Sheikh, Ayman AL Zawalhiri, Sayd Qutb, Muhammad Qutb, Abdullah Azzam, HAMAS, Sheikh Yassin, Ikwhan is LOOKING FOR ISSUES to assert their authority and begin the long process of abrading freedom in the name of submission.

We should be aware that this action is a template, and American processes are designed to respond in a PC fashion, to accommodate the complainant. To emplace rigorous responses to ensure OUR way of life and freedoms, we will have to commit acts to change the nature of these processes which were never designed for a religious assault, purposefully committed to the abrasion of the American value set

U.S. to examine laser system for destroying short-range missiles

WASHINGTON — The U.S. government plans to evaluate a laser-based anti-missile system.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security will study the Skyguard laser-based missile defense system, which was developed by Northrop Grumman. The system has been marketed to Israel to intercept Palestinian-origin Kassam-class, short-range missiles fired from the Gaza Strip.

Homeland Security awarded Northrop Grumman a $1.9 million contract to evaluate solutions to counter the MANPADS threat to commercial aircraft and civil airports.

The Skyguard emerged from the now-defunct Israeli-U.S. Tactical High Energy Laser [THEL] project. In 2005, the U.S. Army canceled the Mobile THEL program, which sought to reduce a laser weapon system to fit a railroad car.

Northrop Grumman will develop an operational concept to use Skyguard in civil aviation. The 18-month contract is for component-level testing and to assess life-cycle costs.

"The ability of a high-energy laser to shoot down rockets, artillery and mortars has been demonstrated repeatedly with mature chemical laser technologies proven in the Tactical High Energy Laser, or THEL," said Alexis Livanos, president of Northrop Grumman's Space Technology group.

Industry sources said a U.S. contract could encourage Israel to procure Skyguard. In January 2006, a visiting Northrop Grumman team discussed a $500 million project to modify Skyguard for Israeli requirements.

"Skyguard will be a revolutionary approach to aviation security because it's based on the only laser system that has shot down a wide variety of airborne threats in flight," Livanos said.

DHS has limited the assessment of Skyguard to the current laser system prototype and has not sought additional development.

"As the prime contractor for the THEL test bed, Northrop Grumman is building on that system's nearly perfect record of performance and safety in Skyguard," said Mike McVey, president of Northrop Grumman's Directed Energy Systems business area. "Skyguard will be one-fourth the size and one-half the cost of THEL, while also being more powerful and more efficient."

Javier Solana is a clueless idiot

Or, as Arafat used to call his kind, a useful idiot.

(Ynet) The European Union Foreign Policy Chief Javier Solana said following a meeting with Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah Thursday that "the Palestinian people have suffered and suffered a lot, and it is time that the occupation that started in 1967 is over."

So, Javier... Let's remember how Israel ended up in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. In a nutshell, Arab lies put them there.

The Egyptians were decimated in the first hours of the Six-Day War yet they lied shamelessly to the Jordanians about their great "successes". This, among other things, caused the Jordanians to enter the war (despite Israel's urging that they stay out). Jordan's military was then crushed and Jordan lost East Jersualem and the West Bank.

If the Egyptians had just told the Jordanians the truth, the Palestinians would probably still be in East Jersusalem and the WB today. Imagine that. Now Palestinians can thank an Egyptian for that.

(JPost) Solana spoke of the need to reopen the crossing between Gaza and the outside world, which has been open for only 12 days in the past four months.

Yeah, never mind that as soon as it opens, Arabs immediately begin smuggling weapons and explosives from Gaza into the West Bank and Israel.

“Like the 1930s in Germany, the international community hears voices today calling for the destruction of Israel and does nothing,” he said Friday during a speech at the country’s Holocaust memorial, Yad Vashem.

“For the first time, the leader of a great nation (Iran) declares that its objective is the destruction of the State of Israel, which does not stop this nation from remaining a legitimate partner in the UN,” he added.

In an article in the Moderate Voice, “Radical Islam Finds Few Takers in the US”, the writer dolts on how Muslims in the US are so well-assimilated that radical Islam can not find roots here.

The writer, unfortunately, is another apologist just whistling in the dark. If the writer would take time to read the many news articles like this, this and this, I think he would have to change his tune.

Shortly after the London bombings, it became fashionable for some American commentators to cite the alienation of British Muslims as an example of a massive failure of assimilation -- a state of affairs, they asserted, that is inconceivable in the United States. Americanization, went their argument, has virtually eliminated teeming groups of disaffected Islamic immigrants within our shores. Well, that may be true but it's not the whole truth concerning American Muslims. the group within the African American Muslim community that is experiencing the most explosive growth is probably the least assimilated: black inmates. Good statistics are hard to come by, but one estimate places the number of Muslim converts in prison above 250,000. What brings them to Islam? Survival? Acceptance? Rejection of Christianity? Spiritual transformation? One thing for sure: It's not Americanization.

Enter the FBI.

FBI director Robert S. Mueller III recently told Congress that one area of the war on terrorism that causes him great concern is the potential for extremist groups such as al Qaeda to recruit radicalized American Muslim converts. Mueller drew a bead on the American prison system, which he described in written testimony as "fertile ground for extremists who exploit both a prisoner's conversion to Islam while still in prison, as well as their socioeconomic status and placement in the community upon their release."

That concern is no longer theoretical.

Three California men are currently being investigated as part of a possible plot to launch assaults against National Guard facilities this Sept. 11 and against Jewish targets on Yom Kippur. One of them, 25-year-old Levar Haney Washington, had served time at the California State Prison in Folsom and, during his incarceration, converted to a radical Islamic group known as Jamiyyat Ul Islam Is Saheeh. Gregory Vernon Patterson, 21, arrested with Washington on unrelated robbery charges, recently converted to Islam. The third man in custody, Hammad Riaz Samana, 21, is a Los Angeles resident. Washington and Patterson are African American; Samana is a Pakistani national.

You probably didn't know it, but in less than two weeks the United States is conducting a nationwide poll on dhimmitude. You may not see the term dhimmitude printed on your ballot, but rest assured – it is there….Look for its abbreviation after the various candidate names. With only a handful of exceptions it shows up as a "D" after the candidate’s name. And while it is true that a few "moderate" (mediaspeak for liberal) Republicans support the dhimmitude agenda, the only Democrat senator I know of who supports a vigorous resistance to dhimmitude is Joe Lieberman. Oops – he's running as an Independent. His party booted him out in the primary election and embraced the dhimmitude "D" candidate.

Iran recruiting up to a million police to cope with mounting unrest

Iran is planning a major expansion of its police forces to contain demonstrations in the capital by students and workers that authorities fear the U.S. is backing. Officials said the government of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad plans to significantly increase the police force in Teheran. The police presence would be bolstered by up to 1 million volunteers.

Teheran police commander Morteza Tala'i said Iran plans to construct as many as 100 police stations in the city in 2007. He said thousands of police would be recruited into the force to ensure order.

Over the past year, Teheran has struggled with increasing student and labor unrest. Authorities have been concerned that the United States would finance Iranian dissidents to undermine the mullah regime.

Tala'i also said authorities would expand their auxiliary forces. The police commander said 1 million people would be trained to become "honorary policemen."

After five years in his post, Tala'i is to be replaced by Brig. Gen. Ahmad Reza Radan. Radan served as commander during the 1980-88 Iran-Iraq war.

Iranian's mission possible: Drive the U.S. out of Iraq

Mostafa Chamran has been ordered by the Iranian leadership to drive the U.S.-led military coalition out of Iraq. Chamran heads an effort to train the Mahdi Army and a range of new insurgency groups to undermine Iraqi stability and increase U.S. casualties.

Chamran is no stranger to violence and terror. He is Iran's leading liaison with terrorist groups throughout the Middle East, including Hamas, Hizbullah and Islamic Jihad.

A pioneering commander in the mullah regime, Chamran oversees training of terrorists in Lebanon, Palestinian Authority, Iraq and other Arab countries. Chamran reportedly targeted such countries as Bahrain, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, Gulf Arab states with a large Shi'ite population, for instability in Iran's drive to increase its influence throughout the region.

Chamran's latest mission is to increase the capability of Shi'ite militias, Western intelligence sources said. These militias, equipped with new lethal bombs, have been trained to destroy their Sunni rivals and accelerate a U.S. withdrawal from Iraq.

Chamran surrounds himself with the best of terrorists from Hizbullah to train the Mahdi Army and offshoots. He has been bolstered by Hizbullah's experience against the U.S.-equipped Israeli military, mauled by the Lebanese militia in the war in Lebanon in August.

Italy: Parlamentarian gets police protection after veil remarks

Rome, 23 Oct. (AKI) - An Italian conservative parliamentarian is under police protection as of Monday after her criticism of the Muslim veil led to threats which were considered serious by security officials. Daniela Santanche, a leading member of Italy's second-largest party in the conservative opposition, the right-wing National Alliance, said in two separate television interviews over the weekend she tought the Muslim veil "is not a religious symbol and it is not required by the Koran" and that "it is not a symbol of freedom."

The remarks, were first made on Sky Italia television during a talk show in which she was a guest with Ali Abu Shwaima, the imam of the mosque in Segrate, Milan, and then repeated during a popular Sunday show, Domenica In, on Italian state television.

Shwaima, an Italian citizen, responded saying she was "ignorant, false, an instigator of hate and an infidel" - accusations which interior ministry officials considered to be serious threats.

Iraq better off under Saddam, says Blix

Former United Nations chief weapons inspector Hans Blix on Wednesday described the United States-led invasion of Iraq as a "pure failure" that had left the country worse off than under the rule of Saddam Hussein.

In unusually harsh comments to Danish newspaper Politiken, the diplomatic Swede said the US government had ended up in a situation in which neither staying nor leaving Iraq were good options.

"Iraq is a pure failure," Blix was quoted as saying. "If the Americans pull out, there is a risk that they will leave a country in civil war. At the same time, it doesn't seem that the United States can help to stabilise the situation by staying there."Blix said the situation would have been better if the war had not taken place.

"Saddam would still have been sitting in office. Okay, that is negative and it would not have been joyful for the Iraqi people. But what we have gotten is undoubtedly worse," he was quoted as saying.

Blix led the UN inspectors that searched for weapons of mass destruction in Iraq before the US-led invasion in 2003. He came under heavy fire from Washington when he urged US President George Bush to allow the weapons inspectors and the International Atomic Energy Agency to continue their work as a way to stave off a war.

Imagine if someone like this had been a world leader in 1942.

Argentine lawyer asks to jail Iran officials for Jewish center blast

Argentine prosecutors on Wednesday asked a federal judge to issue an arrest warrant against former Iranian president Hashemi Rafsanjani and seven others for the 1994 bombing of a Jewish cultural center that killed scores of people.

Prosecutor Alberto Nisman told a news conference that the decision to attack the center "was undertaken in 1993 by the highest authorities of the then-government of Iran."

Federal Judge Rodolfo Canicoba Corral had no public comments following the news conference by Nisman and fellow prosecutor Marcelo Martinez Burgo. The judge, under Argentine law, is allowed an indefinite amount of time to accept or reject the recommendations.
The two prosecutors urged the judge to seek international and national arrest orders for Rafsanjani, who was Iran's president between 1989 and 1997.

They also asked the judge to detain several other former Iranian
officials, including a former intelligence chief, Ali Fallahijan, and former Foreign Minister Ali Ar Velayati.

Did You Say, "Patorius Interviews Mark Steyn?"

Yeah, well, I had the pleasure of sitting in on a BlogNewsConference with the great one as he talked about his very worthwhile new book, America Alone. I urge everyone to go out and buy and read this thing. It's a very important work.

I love Steyn. Even when I am aggravated with him, I admire his determination to tell it like it is.

Why would I ever be aggravated with someone who is merely attempting to get the truth out?

Well, because Steyn tells the truth of statistics and stories and ideologies, but he doesn't tell the truth of our human nature. Steyn tells us, as the interview facilitator from OneJerusalem.org noted, the truth in the manner of the propeht Isaiah. That is, he tells us, "Here is what will happen to you if you don't change."

But, Steyn never tells us of the forces which could bring about that change. He never tells us of the indomitable tradition and spirit that is Western Civilization. He never tells the truth of the street, which is that we are a bunch of ass-kickers just waiting to start tearing throats, and spilling blood.

That is the truth of Western human nature. We are animals by instinct, and we've proven it time and again. Charles Martel, John Sobieski, and dare I say it, Vlad the Impaler. These were Western men. Their deeds haunt the collective soul of our civilization. Somewhere back in the brute recesses of the European subconcious, we can still see ourselves with blood on our teeth, our eyes scanning the horizon for more.

We will not lose this battle. If, in the end, our governments turn their backs on us, we will stomp over the dead bodies of our "leaders" to take the fight directly to the Jihadis.

Never let anyone tell you we are going to lose. Fuck losing. Who among us wants to give up our lives as they are? Who wants to abandon our children and our children's children to the disaster that is Islamic civilization?

We will never give in.

That being said, let's talk about the interview. The interview started out with Steyn describing the "triad" of forces which are destroying Europe,

1) Demographic disaster
2) the welfare state
3) The civilizational exhaustion of Europe

Steyn described how after 9/11 he decided he needed to take a trip to the Middle East to get an idea of what the hell was going on. First, he said, he decided to take a little pleasure tour in Europe, to see three of his favorite cities, Paris, London, and Vienna. What he found was that the Muslims in the major European cities are even angrier at the West than are the Muslims in the Middle East.

He also described taking trips to hospital maternity wards in Europe and seeing the disproportionate amount of babies being born to immigrants. When he started to crunch the real demographic numbers, he realized that Europe was in real trouble.

Mark Steyn gave major props to our fellow Infidel Pamela, from Atlas Shrugs:

I had several questions for Steyn. They all centered around the instinctual mechnaisms which I believe will bring about the changes that need to take place before we will start really fighting. As busy as this hour-long conference was, none of us had time for more than one question. So, the only question I got in was as follows:

Pastorius: There was a baby boomlet in America after 9/11. It seems the instinctual reaction among humans is the opposite of what would be expected, when our herd is threatened, we have more babies. Have you considered that they may happen in Europe?

Steyn kind of laughed at that one and agreed that, yes, it is true, that when a society is threatened, an instinct does kick in and more babies are bred. He cited recent events in South Korea as an example. Steyn described an bacchanal orgy going on as a result of the nuclear threats emanating from Kim Jong Il.

However, Steyn denied that this could happen in Europe. On the contrary, he says, when he talks to young people in London, they maintain that events have convinced them they do not want to bring children into such a horrible world.

Ehhhgh! Perhaps, I ought to be more blunt in my line of questioning in the future. I thought Steyn was more a man of the Earth than to answer in that way.

Let us be blunt. When danger rears its ugly head, men have to behave like men. And, that makes women want to fuck.

Which leads me to another instinct that Steyn does not take into account. That is the natural instinct of the herd to want to protect its territory. When we really come to believe that our land, our traditions, and our children's future is imperilled, then this instinct will kick in.

I guarantee you that, if and when, the Jihadis inevitably overplay their hand in Europe, when they get all hyped up on their own sense of self-importance from having scared so many of us with mere words, when they release a nerve gas, or detonate a nuke in a major Western city, and when we see the melted eye sockets, and bloated burned bodies of our neighbors, things will change. The hooligans of the soccer stadiums will dethrone the pedantic bureaucraps of Brussels, and the real war will be on.

The winner in all this would be the politician who recognizes these forces before they are unleashed in a chaotic manner. It would be better for all if the violence that will inevitably ensue were to be conducted with discipline and reason. If it were targeted specifically at the Jihadis, instead of becoming a mass free-for-all against all those who do not appear European.

I vote for this kind of order. But, I vote against the kind of order that Europe now has. The kind that would ignore uncomfortable problems, until they become intractable problems, the kind that would believe that throwing money at madness, is a form of government, the kind that endlessly borrows Peter to pay Paul's Pimp-daddy welfare state, all the while bringing ever more hordes of immigrants and "youths" to keep feeding the Ponzi scheme.

The European Union wouldn't know a problem if it gang-raped their daughter. Away with the EU. On to the next phase.

We will win. Remember that. We will win.

Not Your Father’s College Campus

The Wall Street Journal (subscription required) reports, in an article by Anthony Glees, that Britain has become “al Qaeda target No. 1”…He also says that intelligence sources now believe that the activities of the “homegrown” jihadists in Britain are in fact, trained and sponsored from Pakistan.

The title of Mr. Glees’ essay is “Campus Jihad” - and for good reason. It has become a commonplace by now that the level of organized Islamist activity in any Western country takes place on university campuses. That’s where students are radicalized and recruited, that is where jihadists find refuge and support.

Mr. Glees’ report focuses on the many instances in Britain:

I believe a significant number get radicalized and recruited on university campuses. At least 13 convicted Islamist terrorists and four suicide bombers have been students at British universities. Radical Islamist student societies make full use of university resources. They operate Web sites, hosted by university servers, which direct visitors to organizations that glorify jihad and terror. These “religious” groups are given “prayer rooms” on campus, which are also used to disseminate extremist literature and DVDs. Muslim students concerned about these developments tell me that at many of these Islamic societies terrorism is portrayed as justified acts of “resistance.” A leading imam in Birmingham often preaches on British campuses that the London bombers have to be seen as “martyrs.”

British universities prefer burying their heads in the sand of political correctness. When the Foreign Office invited 100 academics to bid for £1.3 million of government funds to participate in a counter-radicalization program, the academics said no. John Gledhill, chair of the Association of Social Anthropologists, welcomed their move, saying last week that “it did appear to be encouraging researchers to identify subjects and groups involved with terrorism . . . that could be interpreted asencouraging them to become informers.” Martha Mundy, a lecturer at the London School of Economics, dismissed the government plans as having “an overtly security-research agenda” starting from the (false) premise that there is a “link between Islamism, radicalization and terrorism.”

And guess who one of the leading lights at the London School of Economics is? Our very own favorite villain, Tariq Ramadan, the very same T.R. who is the grandson of the founder of the Muslim Brotherhood, and the same Islamist who was refused a visa into the U.S. to teach at Notre Dame.

It’s important to remember that the Jihadist movement is transnational. The first thing that its members have to do is to establish sanctuaries. The college campus has become both refuge and recruiting camp.

America hasn’t escaped this fate, either. Saudis have given big money to Harvard, Georgetown, and DePaul University, just to name a few. And don’t forget that poor schmuck who blew himself up at the University of Oklahoma - he of the Pakistani roommate who disappeared the next day.

Don’t you wonder how many of these schools permit military recruiting within their hallowed halls? And how many permit R.O.T.C. programs? I don’t have the answer to these questions, but I’m sure the research would be depressing.

The irony is that these education factories are turning out people who often have trouble finding jobs that will allow them to make enough to pay off their academic debt. Here is the sad story of one man, from the same issue of the WSJ. He is answering a columnist who claimed that those with post-graduate degrees make more money in the long run:

There are consequences for broadening the income gap, such as social unrest and increased violent crime rates. Yet, for my entire 20 year career span, this has been the consistent story, and we have not chosen to change the situation. In fact, we reinforce it with appeals to freewill, individualism and self determination.

I do hold a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from University of Chicago, where I earned many honors for my research. By most expectations, I should be doing well. Unfortunately, it is far from true, and I am not alone. Of my personal classmates, eight in 10 had to leave the field as well. When we graduated, we were told bluntly that there were insufficient students to necessitate added faculty positions, and insufficient federal grants to warrant a research laboratory position. The few that stayed currently earn a modest to lower middle class income. Those that left went to government, financial, legal, and entrepreneurial sectors. I chose the latter. Many of us retrained, including me collecting an M.B.A on top of the Ph.D. Again, the M.B.A. should indicate a strong career, but somehow my timing seems to be off. Unfortunately, I gradated in 2001, shortly after the collapse of the consulting business, and followed by the collapse of the professional labor market due 9/11. Five years later, I am still scraping by with various entrepreneurial and part-time endeavors. Stats add that nine in 10 fail. I am only on my fourth endeavor which has fallen short of the required goals.

Hope drives behavior more than facts. My hope springs internal, and so I will continue to strive to find my job/create a working company. But, at some point, I will become an electrician. Physicists are usually pretty good with electricity. We did discover it.

The university factories in this country are corrupted. It is not insignificant that women students now outnumber men in college, or that women are frequently walled into self-selected ghettoes of “gender” studies. However, it is a cultural fact that when the number of females in a given field is greater than the number of men, the latter leave the field. No doubt some psycho-social ethnologist can tell us why. Lionel Tiger, perhaps.

Our culture is under assault from within and from without. While this is hardly unique, when such occurrences have been recorded in history, the outcome for those bearing the brunt is not pretty.

We here in the UK are not helping matters, there are those in this country who willingly denegrate our own customs and beliefs in subjugation to political correctness and the fear of offending Muslims in the UK, the BA farrago continues Baghdad Airways have said that the employee who wore a crucifix can "work out of sight" of the passengers and general public, gosh, thats big of them, they are quite willing to allow veils and hijabs to be worn by their staff "in public" but not the emblem of this nations religion, they are clearly completely out of touch with reality and public opinion as is the BBC.

"BBC commissioning editor for documentaries Richard Klein admitted the broadcaster was out of touch with the British public, saying it was guilty of "ignoring" mainstream opinion."

Wow tell us something we did not know and have been yelling about for ages, but it gets worse, last night, following a lapse of sanity I watched the BBC's "Interview with the Taliban", this programme was a propaganda scoop for the Taliban, the BBC should be ashamed of itself and the Government should revoke its Charter.

If all of this is not bad enough and you are not quite reaching fever pitch, our beloved heir to the Throne has come out with the kind of idiotic statement only he can make. He, Charles wants a "multi-Faith coronation", coronation!, if Charles for one minute thinks the Queen will surrender the Throne of Gt Britain and the Commonwealth to him whilst he is spouting this banaal idea he had better think again.

This must be being done to reflect the majority religion in the Prison and to ensure that these inmates become highly radicalised, as the MSM likes to put it thus creating more people who want to see our demise as a nation and we are paying for it.

On a more serious note, there are many Christian organisations that work with prisoners and they have had success in rehabilitating prisoners, will they now be forbidden entry to prisons in case they offend Muslims contained there in?.

All of these activities send a message to the followers of Islam that they are in the ascenency in this country and the dream of its Islamisation could become a reality.

Swedish Skeptics

Swedish reader and commenter XY has sent his translation of an article from yesterday’s Dagens Nyheter. The article reports that a recent study shows that Swedes are not particularly keen on cooperating with the United States.

However, if it’s any consolation, they don’t seem to have much enthusiasm about cooperating with anyone else, either:

Swedes are the most USA-skeptical in Scandinavia

Swedes are the Nordic countries’s most USA-skeptical people. Only one in ten Swede thinks that long term cooperation with the USA is important — as against every second Dane.

The Nordic Council has investigated the Nordic people’s attitude to cross-national cooperation. And the by far least interested are the Swedes.

. “It is troubling,” says the EU minister Cecilia Malmström.

One of the questions in this major investigation is: “Are there any countries you think it is especially important to cooperate with in the long term?”

The answers suggest a widespread skepticism among the Swedes towards the USA, China and Russia.

Only 10 percent of the Swedes want long term cooperation with the USA, and as many with China and only 7 percent with Russia.

That can be compared with the 44 percent of the Danes and 33 percent of the Norwegians that want a long term cooperation with the USA.

The interest in cooperation with Russia is four times as big in all other Nordic countries except Iceland.

The Swedes are also the most skeptical in regard to long term cooperation with the EU countries — 43 percent want it, as against 80 percent of the Danes.

In all five countries in the study finds that cooperation among the Nordic countries the most desired. But the Swedes are the least interested there as well: 50 percent think it is important, as against 71 percent in Norway and 74 percent in Denmark.

The EU minister Cecilia Malmström says that the investigation is troubling, but also expresses a certain skepticism. That only about 500 persons in each of the Nordic countries — a total of 2,500 persons — have been interviewed suggests that the survey may not have been statistically significant, she says.

But at the same time she admits that the differences between Sweden and the rest of the Nordic countries is striking.

She thinks one reason is that there isn’t enough awareness of the advantages of international cooperation.

“It is important to show that both we and our neighbors have something to gain from cooperation.”

At the same time she thinks that the result is perplexing.

“The Swedes are a people that traditionally have been positive in regard to cooperation, for example in the U.N. and the EU’s expansion,” says Cecilia Malmström.

Do Muslims in Europe need to integrate more?

As an European I had no doubt and answered yes. The result above was then displayed. Hah - I thought. The 12% "no" vote must be Muslims and the 6,8% "I don't know" must live underground. But great with a 82% "yes" vote.

Also it seems socialists, pacifists, defeatist in general and other riff-raff don't read Newsweek and for sure don't participate in the "livevotes" - or there would be more "no" votes.

But then I got to think. Muslims in Europe have already been given the chance to integrate. Some have integrated well but many have not. Demographics will within the next few years make several large cities of Europe having a Muslim majority (a few already have a youth majority of Muslims). The Islamofascists will use every trick in the book to gain power.

This combined with a large percentage of European apologists will in fact give birth to Eurabia. Ironically, multiculturalists will see their absurd experiment of multiculturalism turn into a de facto monoculture - and I ain't talking European culture.

I see this as unavoidable unless Europe receives a wake-up call now and immediately starts fighting this trend. In a certain manner worse uprisings in France could be a necessity for the rest of Europe to read the writing on the wall. We need more conflict to avoid the eradication of Europe.

Also integration in Europe absurdly means that our culture must adjust to the Islamist culture including some rites that seem out of the middle ages. It is definitely not "when in Rome do as the Romans do". Personally, I do not care for integration with the aim of making me x percentage Muslim.

So even if it pains me - I change my vote to a resounding NO.

Cultural immaturity of Islam

Muslims for a Safer America took a survey of American Muslims at an Islamic Society of North America convention in September. While this is not a scientific survey, it is probably a good representation of the thoughts of the more committed Muslims of America who are likely to attend these sorts of conventions.

The conclusion one can draw from this survey is that educated, Western Muslims are living in a complete fantasy world, where they are the perpetual victims and have no responsibility for any problems. In their twisted universe, Muslims didn't do any terror attacks, except maybe London; the US routinely lies and goes to extreme lengths to make Muslims look bad, and in fact the US is at war with Islam itself.

These paranoid fantasies do not come out of a vacuum. They are a direct result of the mindset of Islam, where the ascendancy of the West since the Middle Ages is a direct contradiction to the Islamic assumption that its philosophy was inherently superior. The fact that Islam descended into third-world status and irrelevance for centuries is a source of deep anguish and embarrassment. The more recent reinvigoration of Islam due to petrodollars has not seeped into this collective shame, where Andalusia is still mourned. Muslims are thirsty for relevance and evidence that their beliefs are superior to others'.

The US is everything that Islam is not. This is not a completely good thing - there are definite problems in American society, and some aspects of Islam are praiseworthy. But in real terms, the US dominance of the world scene, militarily and culturally and economically, is a focus for Muslim anger (which is simply a manifestation of embarrassment.)

Today's Muslims would rather react with fear, denial and paranoia to the challenges of the modern world symbolized by the US, rather than introspection about how modern Muslims can evolve Islam to meet today's challenges.

In many ways, it is a cultural immaturity. A mature culture is one that is secure in its own beliefs and confident enough that it can hold its own in the marketplace of ideas. An immature culture is fearful of other beliefs and standards and not certain of the validity of its own. The denial, projection and paranoia are all logical outcomes of this core insecurity.

Immature cultures crave relevance. Lately, the Arabic WAFA website has been filled with articles about Mahmoud Abbas taking telephone calls from leaders of some nations, like Spain or Jordan or Zambia. These press releases are a way to shout to the world that Abbas himself is a world leader, in that he can speak to other world leaders as equals. In reality, he looks more like an autograph seeker, basking in the reflected glory of a Tom Cruise. But this obsession is an indication of his desperate quest for relevance, and ironically it is a true indication of his irrelevance.

Terror is just a manifestation of this quest for relevance. It is the equivalent of a temper tantrum from a two-year old with deadly weapons. If you have insulted me, if you have disrespected me, if you have ignored me - then I will make you pay.

Another example of this immaturity: Muslims are rightly concerned with the saturation of sex in American culture. One cannot look at a sitcom nowadays without being barraged with fairly explicit sexual messages. They are offended by this part of American culture, and they have a right to be.

Now, it just so happens that a large number of Christians are equally offended by the same problem. There are far more Christians in the US than Muslims. Why doesn't organized Islam try to reach out to other groups and deal with what is clearly a core issue for them? Mature groups would work together to reach a common goal. But one gets the impression from Muslims that they would never work with others - whether the reason is xenophobia or an unwillingness to compromise on small issues to gain a greater victory, either way it is a result of immaturity.

There is no more pluralistic society than America. People from countless cultures, religions and nations manage to live here and thrive. America doesn't just tolerate diversity, it celebrates it. It isn't perfect but in American culture, success and hard work are rewarded. To think that the US is targeting Islam is the height of delusion. This delusion is not just psychotic but it is dangerous, and ultimately it is more dangerous to Islam than to the West. The unspoken American contract is that you can do your own thing as long as you are one of us, and American Muslims do not consider themselves American nearly as much as they consider themselves Muslim.

Islam needs to grow up, and one way or another it will have to. The question is how many innocent people will die as it struggles through adolescence.

In the vision of certain members of the press, Israel is a colonialist mass murderer, and the word terrorist does not exist without quotation marks surrounding it. Israelis are aggressors. Islamist terrorists, be they Palestinians or Iranian backed Hezb’allah, are victims. These media types come to the Middle East with their narrative firmly in place. It is so because they believe it to be so. I was an eyewitness to a classic example of this in Jenin, in 2002. Western journalists and United Nation envoys were in an uproar over an alleged Israeli massacre of a thousand Palestinians. There were grisly, supposed eyewitness, accounts of Israeli bulldozers shoveling hundreds of corpses of helpless Palestinian refugees into mass graves. There were stories of Israeli soldiers murdering Palestinian children in front of their parents and then throwing their bodies into wells and sewage pits.

Comparisons were made to ethnic cleansing in the Balkans, to Nazi war crimes and the term genocide was spoken with righteous indignation. The truth turned out to be somewhat less Baroque. There was a battle not a massacre.

In that battle some fifty Palestinian combatants were killed, as were twenty three Israeli soldiers. The battle was a ferocious one and in the Arab press there were glowing tales of the fifty Palestinian fighters who fell in glorious combat against the Zionist enemy they valiantly slaughtered. But to the majority of Western journalists the facts became a footnote on the inside pages, reported weeks after the front page banner line headlines screamed about the supposed massacre.

It is well known that John Esposito is a blatant apologist for militant Islam.

• The 1990s, he said, would “be a decade of new alliances and alignments in which the Islamic movements will challenge rather than threaten their societies and the West.”
• In 1994, he supported the notion that Hamas, the suicide-bombing Palestinian terror group, is also a community-focused group that engages in “honey, cheese-making, and home-based clothing manufacture.”
• Esposito also claimed on NPR that Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasir Arafat’s call for Jihad is comparable to a “literacy campaign” or the “fight against AIDS.”
• Clearly, Esposito accepts a rose-colored version of militant Islam that has little connection to reality. But rather than damaging his reputation, this approach has served him surprisingly well in both academic circles as well as government. Indeed, he was a leading source of information on Islamic movements for the Department of State during the Clinton years.
  

In a news article entitled ‘Lecturer Dispels Myths About Islam’ in the LedgerOnline, Esposito ‘exposes’ our ignorance of Islam.

John Esposito said he gets asked the same questions repeatedly these days, one of them being, "Why is Islam such a violent religion?" In a lecture, "Violence in the Islamic Tradition," at Florida Southern College on Friday, he posed a question in response: "Why is it we have so much of a problem distinguishing between what a majority of Muslims do and what extremists do?"

Esposito goes on to use the everyday apologist tactic of “Well we were just as bad as them” instead of answering to the issue at hand.

Esposito pointed to a quote by former national security adviser Zbigniew Brzezinski that the 20th century was the bloodiest in human history. He asked, "Who was it that engaged in and perpetuated the violence? Not Muslims, but America and Europe. It was not waged in the name of religion, but it was fought by religious people and legitimated by religious chaplains." Christians fail to notice their own complicity in such violence while reacting with shock to violence inflicted by Muslims and wrongly seeking to characterize Islam as a whole as a violent religion, he said.

Esposito is helping conduct a worldwide Gallup poll, "Can You Hear Me? Listening to the Voices of Muslims," which he said dispels many stereotypes held in the West about Muslims.

"A majority of Muslims admire the West for its scientific achievements, its freedoms of speech and assembly.

Uh huh. Where was Mr. Esposito and the Muslim admiration for free speech during the Mohammed cartoon controversy and other perceived offense to Islam that drew that small minority of thousands of Muslims into the streets worldwide?

"Is it moving as fast as it should? No. Authoritarian regimes -- and most Muslim countries are ruled by authoritarian regimes -- and extremists are not interested in that debate," he said.

That’s news to Al Qaeda and bin Laden who preaches the overthrow of the sheikdoms in Arabia.

That’s the recipe that Dr. Tawfik Hamid, author of "The Roots of Jihad" suggests to counter the jihadi teachings he was brought up in.

Dr. Tawfik Hamid is not being flip. The physician and author believes the repressed passions of young Muslims, particularly Sunnis, make them susceptible to the promise of a heaven filled with pleasures of the flesh, and eager to blow up themselves and others to get there. "I was 8 years old when I first entered this powerful brainwashing system," says Hamid, who grew up in affluence as the son of a Cairo doctor. "At first, my head was filled with images of a paradise of chocolates and lollypops. Later, it was of women."

Though his father was an atheist, Hamid lusted for the nirvana he was taught to envision in a secular Egyptian school.

"We used to pray and imagine these beautiful women in tents," he says. "At the same time, our sexual repression was overwhelming. We were taught that even masturbation would deny us our reward." Eventually, Hamid joined the Jamaha Islameia, a jihadist organization, where he fell under the tutelage of Dr. Ayman al-Zawahiri, Osama bin Laden's No. 2, and was schooled in the art of terror. He left when he was asked to go to Afghanistan. "I could not kill," Hamid says. "I could not put the theory into practice." So he became a jihad dropout, fled to the West for safety and began examining the roots of a movement that aims to subjugate the entire non-Muslim world.

And the tired litany of excuses that the Left uses to explain why Muslims turn to terrorism?

Hamid passionately refutes theories that Islamist terror is rooted in politics, oppression, ignorance or poverty. He grew up wealthy, educated and free, and yet he fell under the jihadist spell. This is about religion, he says, and even though the West is squeamish about categorizing the war on terror as a religious struggle, it has to be fought that way.

To repeat. It’s the ideology, stupid.

Pesky Youths Torch Buses Around Paris

Youths forced passengers off three buses and set them on fire overnight in suburban Paris, raising tensions Thursday ahead of the first anniversary of the riots that engulfed France's rundown, heavily immigrant neighborhoods.

No injuries were reported, but worried bus drivers refused to enter some suburbs after dark, and the prime minister urged a swift, stern response.

The riots in October 2005 raged through housing projects in suburbs nationwide, springing in part from anger over entrenched discrimination against immigrants and their French-born children, many of them Muslims from former French colonies in Africa. Despite an influx of funds and promises, disenchantment still thrives in those communities.

About 10 attackers _ five of them with handguns _ stormed a bus in Montreuil east of Paris early Thursday and forced the passengers off, the RATP transport authority said. They then drove off and set the bus on fire.
