Table courtesy of Wikipedia
Map courtesy of R. Pongett

The tabular data above comes from Lynn and Vanhanen's IQ and the Wealth of Nations. For a good review of Richard Lynn's more recent and comprehensive Race Differences in Intelligence, look here.
Here is another fine analysis of the concept of GDP vs. IQ--with the element of free market rules thrown in.

Of muslim nations, Malaysia has the highest average IQ, 92. Malaysia's population contains 30% ethnic Chinese. Turkey has the second highest average IQ of muslim nations at 90. All other muslim nations have average IQ's of less than 90--some of them much less.

It is possible that some individual nations are misplaced on the above table, with average IQs either a bit higher or a bit lower than stated. But it is possible to detect trends by looking at different groupings of nations and their average IQ.

Given that population average IQ needs to be at least 90 for a modern technology based nation to function, immigration policy should be oriented toward inviting high value immigrants.

Observing what happened to Zimbabwe's prosperity after Robert Mugabe drove the most prosperous (and presumably most intelligent) farmers from their land, provides a good example of what NOT to do. Idi Amin's actions in Uganda provide another example. Fidel Castro's actions in Cuba provide a third. You don't want to drive out your intelligent and resourceful groups.

Update (26Dec06): Visit this Fourmilab page for a graphic illustration of the change in average global IQ with projected population trends. Accompanying the animated graphic is a thoughtful discussion of some of the issues involved in projecting trends in global intelligence.

Jim Crow in Hawaii

Bruce Fein has an excellent article in the Washington Times on the U.S. Ninth Circuit's upholding of Plessy v. Ferguson's separate but equal doctrine:

The U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals has ratified racism that celebrates Native Hawaiian ancestry with tortured reasoning reminiscent of Jim Crow. The 9th Circuit's 8-7 en banc ruling in Doe v. Kamehameha Schools (Dec. 5) upholding a racially exclusionary admissions policy for Kamehameha Schools marks manipulative judging at its worst.

King Kamehameha I's signature contribution to Hawaii's legal and political culture was the general erasure of distinctions between Native and non-Native Hawaiians. The king anticipated United States Chief Justice Harlan Fiske Stone's admonition that racial distinctions are odious to a free people.

The Kamehameha Schools were created under a charitable testamentary trust established by the last direct descendant of King Kamehameha I, Princess Bernice Pauahi Bishop. The trustees chose to confine admissions to students with at least one Native Hawaiian ancestor because the exclusion of non-Native Hawaiians was thought to represent the wishes of Mrs. Bishop. Native Hawaiians were not preferred to overcome past legal, social, economic or other discrimination. Indeed, Native Hawaiians have been special favorites of the law for more than a century since annexation.

A non-Native applicant challenged the Kamehemeha Schools' "Native Hawaiians Only" admissions policy under a federal civil rights statute prohibiting racial discrimination in making or enforcing contracts, Title 42 of the U.S. Code, Section 1981. (The social ostracism unleashed against persons in Hawaii who challenge the political correctness of Native Hawaiian preferences obligated the plaintiff to sue under the pseudonym "John Doe.") The Supreme Court held in Runyon v. McCrary (1976), that Section 1981 prohibits private schools from racially discriminatory admissions policies. Indeed, the high court later held in Bob Jones v. United States (1983) that an unexpressed public policy of the United States prohibited tax exemptions for discriminating private schools.

Judge Graber scolded plaintiff Doe for complaining about his race-based exclusion. She lectured that "students denied admission by Kamehameha Schools have ample and adequate alternative educational options," a variation of the "separate-but-equal" doctrine that the Supreme Court repudiated 52 years ago in Brown v. Board of Education (1954).

Of course where Hawaii's schools are concerned there is little that is equal regarding quality. And this is intentional. Earlier this year Laura Brown reported on how state representative Lyla Berg (D) let the cat out of the bag. Education expert Matthew Gandal was testifying to the state legislature when Berg stated: "But you are aware that our economy is based on the service industry?" Hawaii has a two-tiered education system. Graber is probably clueless about this, but those in Hawaii who support the Kamehameha School's policy are not.

"Long War" of perhaps 100 years’ duration - Pentagon

They get it. Thank God.

Pentagon briefings reveal Al Qaida's 20-year plan, inevitability of 'Long War'

The Pentagon’s Joint Staff is very secretive but it is coming out of the shadows to better promote the idea that the global war on terrorism will be a "Long War" of perhaps 100 years’ duration. zawa_sadat_trial.jpg

A Joint Staff briefing, entitled the "Long War," is given five or six times a week within the Pentagon to various public audiences and as many as 60 times around the country. The goal is to help the American people and leaders better understand the nature of the conflict, the enemy and its actions and the U.S. strategy and tactics for defeating them.

“It is not just about Iraq or Afghanistan. It involves the whole world and it involves the whole government,” said Air Force Brig. Gen. Mark Schissler, deputy director of the war on terrorism within the Joint Staff J-5 strategy office.

According to the briefing, Al Qaida remains the main threat but it is also changing. The terrorist group is succeeding in making more connections around the globe, especially in Muslim-dominated regions where Islamists seek to re-establish a caliphate. These include North Africa, Southern Europe, the Middle East, and parts of Central and Southeast Asia.

“We see them reaching out a little more regionally and globally and you see groups that previously had not favored Al Qaida in some cases joining up with them now,” Schissler said. For example, terrorists in North Africa in the past had refused to join Al Qaida but recently have started to join forces with the group headed by Osama Bin Laden and Ayman al Zawahiri.
hell002.jpg

The briefing states that Al Qaida “has exploited a frustrated populace, increased communications, and improved tactics to inspire a global movement committed to establishing extremists domination over much of the world.”

“The extremists believe that only through total extremists domination can the Ummah once again be prominent in the world,” the briefing states, noting that Bin Laden has boasted that "the pious caliphate will start from Afghanistan."

Barbara Boxer - X Dhimmi?

Last night, news came that Barbara Boxer rescinded an award to an Islamic activist because of his connections to CAIR.

Charles at Little Green Footballs brought out his "Flying Pig", and the usual seething and whining has already begun emanating from the dark corridors of the CAIR lair.

Frequent Atlas Shrugs commenter X Dhimmi has decided it is time that all of us Infidels write to Boxer and thank her. I agree.

Here is X Dhimmi's letter:

SENATOR BARBARA BOXER
112 HART
SENATE OFFICE BUILDING
WASHINGTON, D.C. 20510

Dear Senator Boxer:

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

I am so heartened and pleased by your decision to rescind the "certificate of achievement" award issued by your office to Basim Elkarra because of his affiliation with CAIR. This makes an important, cautionary statement about CAIR which has been far too lacking among our national leaders.

To someone like me who follows closely the activities of CAIR and judges the organization as dangerous to America's freedoms, your courageous action is a breath of fresh air. You can be assured millions of Americans have been waiting for a national leader to speak up for America against this group which supports agendas inimical to American values and freedoms.

I have sent copies of this letter to the White House and my senators and representatives asking them to support you through the inevitable accusations of Islamophobia (indeed, the charge has already been leveled according to the Newsweek article) and attacks which I am certain you will endure. Remain strong and resolute, Senator! We truly need leaders with your integrity who refuse to succumb to the pressure from groups who wish to see America fail.

Again, thank you.

Email form for contacting Senator Boxer.

It would seem that Barbara Boxer is now, officially, an Ex-Dhimmi.

Oh, Ye Divided Infidels

For a long time I have disliked Robert Spencer. That is not to say I don't respect and admire him. Or, that I don't buy his books, and read his website. It is, instead, to say that I don't appreciate his morality. I think his world view is lacking in creativity and faith. And, I think that if everyone thought like him, the world would be an even sadder place than it already is.

Here's a quote from Robert Spencer on the morning after Saddam's execution:

With Saddam out of power, there is no one with the will or the strength to keep Iraq united, except possibly Iran -- the chief beneficiary of the American democracy project. Here is yet another fruit of the wholesale ignorance of and wishful thinking about Islam that prevails in Washington.

For my part, I don't care if Iraq is united. I think we are giving Arabs/Muslims an opportunity and it is their responsibility to seize it, and make it their own. If they choose to revert to the feeding frenzy that is Islamofascism, then that's too bad. At a certain point, we will be forced to come up with new questions and answers, new solutions, as to how to best deal with the permanently suicidal, if that is what they choose.

I have some ideas.

I'd love to hear everyone else's opinion.

Can You Hear Me Now?

From Redneck Texan:

Iran continues to predict the imminent destruction of Israel, and promises to do what it can to help make that happen. Israel responds with dark threats of countermeasures that will prevent Iranian plans from working.

Most people think that the most likely Israeli response is air strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities. But Israel has another weapon available, but one with serious side effects. Israel has a satellite launch capability that could put a nuclear weapon in low orbit (about 200 kilometers up).

Once over Iran, the nuclear bomb could be detonated, and create an EMP (Electromagnetic Pulse), which would destroy most of the military and civilian electronics in Iran. That would be a major setback to the Iranian nuclear weapons program, and the Iranian economy.

There would be ugly side effects. The nuclear blast would also create a temporary belt of intense radiation, which would destroy or damage many of the low earth orbit satellites up there.

There would be $100 billion, or more, in damage to these satellites, and several years of disrupted communications, GPS and weather prediction service until all the damaged satellites could be replaced.

It's this collateral damage, more than anything else, that protects Iran from this kind of attack.

Storm Track Appeasement: Democrats to TSA – Quotas, Yes. Terrorists, No

“Hey you! The one with the bomb belt. Come on through. We reached our quota today.”

Think that’s absurd? Not if the Democrats have their way. The American Thinker has a very informed post about the Flying Imams and their newly elected useful idiots in the Democratic Congress. The most important part of the post is an excerpt from the legislation proposed by the Democrat led House.

The title of the Bill is S. 2138 and here’s what it says.

S. 2138 provides federal funding defaults and potential civil penalties for any agencies which, when challenged, cannot prove that they did not racially profile anyone they questioned, detained, searched, or seized contraband from. It broadly defines the offense as relying, to any degree, on race, ethnicity, national origin, or religion in selecting which individuals to subject to routine or spontaneous investigatory activities or deciding upon the scope and substance of law enforcement activity following the initial investigatory procedure....It further requires that law enforcement agencies keep records as to the race, ethnicity, national origin and religion of all stops and searches. This data will be analyzed regularly by designees of the DOJ to determine if that agency is engaging in profiling. These inane determinations will be made based upon percentages of encounters compared to percentages of the population.

The most obvious problem? “The new law could keep our courts busy entertaining frivolous lawsuits driven by cherry-picked data and our law enforcement agencies more concerned with sticking to quota than solving and preventing crimes.”

Barbara Boxer Concerned About CAIR

From Newsweek:

Dec. 29, 2006 - In a highly unusual move, Sen. Barbara Boxer of California has rescinded an award to an Islamic activist in her home state because of the man’s connections to a major American Muslim organization that recently has been courted by leading political figures and even the FBI.

Even better:

After directing her staff to look into CAIR, Boxer “expressed concern” about some past statements and actions by the group, as well as assertions by some law enforcement officials that it “gives aid to international terrorist groups,” according to Natalie Ravitz, the senator’s press spokeswoman....

Could it be? Not all Democrats are Dhimmicrats?

Of course, CAIR is using the same old lines of defense:

CAIR has...demanded that she withdraw the action—which one top CAIR official said smacks of “Islamophobia.”...

“We feel that the same crowd who is pushing these smears against CAIR is the same crowd as the neocons that pushed us into the Iraq war,” he says. “They are trying to smear the Muslim community and they are trying to silence its voice. This takes us back to the McCarthy era.”

More veil madness, as robbers become inspired to wear it too

This could be another reason to ban the burka:
The Jewellers’ Association of Maharashtra has now asked the police to bar customers wearing veils from entering shops.

"There is a rise in the number of robberies in which veiled customers were involved. In a year, eight to nine such incidents are reported. There is a possibility of two to three veiled gangs operating in the city,” Fatechand Ranka, president of the Jewellers’ Association in Pune was quoted by news agency PTI as saying.

"Due to the veils, these customers cannot be identified by us or police. So we have taken a decision not to allow veiled customers in the shops. And for that, the Association has sought permission in a letter to the state home ministry, state police chief and city police commissioner,” he added.
And in England, there too, they seem to have similar problems:
An armed gang wearing burka headdresses escaped with jewellery after a raid on a shop in Halifax.

The three raiders - whose faces were covered by the religious gowns - entered the jewellers in Queen’s Road, Pellon, at 1100 GMT on Monday, asked
to view some gems and then produced a gun …

At least two of the raiders, who fled in a car, are believed to be male.
Where will the madness go next?

Why we need SPIES...

The satellite image here, taken over china shows what looks like a Nimitz class aircraft carrier. So far our intelligence has told us the chinese have only purchased russian built carriers, which they can no longer afford to operate (and which, btw, one might wonder WHY they are needed since the USA has about as much ability to conquer China as Israel does..not to mention desire)

Of course, humans on the ground can, if they can get close enough, or into the facilities, give us a much better idea of what's going on.

What's going on?

Liberal, Conservative, Progressive, 'Christian Right' in the USA

Amid the the praise for Gerald Ford, who in my view, though I was certainly against it at the time, swallowed the succubus whole in pardoning Nixon, amid the harsh unforgiving condemnations in the democratic underground, or Huffington, amid the cacaphony to come over acceleration (or not) of US troops in Baghdad, amid the mindless hatred or intelligent criticism of Bush, AND (the 'rapist', political genius, husband of 'Foster killing' future prez, blah stupid blah) Clinton, amid the get out of Iraq now, stay the course, Walt and Mearsheimer, Holocaust denial, talk to and ignore Syria and Iran, jew neocon, christian zionist, naieve leftist, fascist commie, bulimic expository gag reflex campaign starting moronic shouting seemingly neverending blather and bother...american partisan division has never seemed greater.
left_right.jpg
The progressive "Henry Wallace" wing of the democratic party (i.e. Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, and can you say Bernie Sanders?) , which to any FDR-HST person represents some kind of non survival mutation (and who ended as despised by the like of HHH ) - still seems to be the VOICE of the democratic party. To be successful these people hide behind pols like the newly elected gun toting democratic Senator- elect from Montana. These same democratic mutants told me in 2002 that Lieberman and Biden were spineless war criminals, not 'democrats'. That's about right for the school of thought descended from a presidential campaign (1948) and former vice prez (1940-44) who opposed the Berlin airlift and saw not much wrong with Stalin in Eastern Europe.

The idiotic and frightening religious right, masquerading as if they are the essence of Barry Goldwater, meanwhile, has in the persons of people like Trent Lott, James Dobson (hey, just choose the links and make up your own mind) taken possession of the word 'conservative'

To say it as if I am Disraeli, this is somewhat regrettable. About as regrettable as being caught with your mistress, your face between her thighs, naked, by your 7 year old daughter walking in with her doll in one hand and a schoolbook in the other about to ask you the correct spelling of Ouagoudougou for her entry in the National Geographic Bee finals.

Do British Muslims Support Terror?

I wish there were better statistics and numbers available to put the Islamofascist problem into perspective. To me the problem is obvious - and the few available numbers usually document the worst fears. Alas, nobody in authority is interested in scientifically analyzing the Islamofascist problem - on the contrary any existing numbers are either hidden, ridiculed or the publication even outlawed.

Pastorius earlier today posted: Tiny Minority Of Extremists Update - 40% Want Sharia Law, which is very interesting.

However, that only 1 percent of British Muslims actually supported the terrorist attacks in London I don't believe. Otherwise more moderate Muslims would have demonstrated their outrage against terrorism. I wonder how many British Islamofascists would openly answer a pollster with: "I thought the killings were great..." Not very many I think. MI5 would otherwise have a very easy time identifying potential terrorists!

This posting on Jihad Watch (hat tip) describes an earlier poll by the Guardian.
Almost one in 10 British Muslims would not inform police if they suspected that someone of the same faith was involved in a terror attack, a poll suggested.

The ICM poll for the News of the World found 9% of the 502 questioned would not tell police if they had such suspicions about a fellow Muslim.

With a Muslim population aged over 16 in Britain of around one million, that would translate to 90,000 "turning a blind eye", the newspaper said.

However, almost nine out of every 10 (86%) would contact police, according to the survey.

Among young Muslims, the figures for keeping quiet were higher with 15% of 16 to 24-year-olds saying they would not tell police and 81% saying they would.

The poll also found that one in 20 Muslims thought attacks like the July 7 bombings were justified. And more than half (56%) said they did not believe a police warning that there are thousands of extremist British Muslims willing to carry out attacks here....

More than eight in 10 (86%) said the Prime Minister should shoulder some of the blame and 72% blamed non-Muslims for racist and "Islamophobic" behaviour.

However, two thirds (66%) said the Muslim community's failure to root out extremists was a factor. Meanwhile, 83% accepted that the terrorists themselves were to blame although one in 10 said they were not.

I continue to think the real numbers are much worse.

Tiny Minority Of Extremists Update - 40% Want Sharia Law

Well, that is just a wafer-thin slice of the community, isn't it?

Four out of 10 British Muslims want sharia law introduced into parts of the country, a survey reveals today.

The ICM opinion poll also indicates that a fifth have sympathy with the "feelings and motives" of the suicide bombers who attacked London last July 7, killing 52 people, although 99 per cent thought the bombers were wrong to carry out the atrocity.

That's from the London Telegraph, folks. Read the rest.

Breaking News: Jews Are Behind Al Qaeda

Roger Simon tells about his taxi ride in Seattle:

Yesterday afternoon, after wrapping up our vacation, Sheryl, Madeleine and I started back to our hotel to pick up our bags and head home to LA. We were with our friend and my Pajamas colleague Gerard. He proposed we take a cab; he would drop us by the hotel before continuing to his home.

We found one quickly. It was driven by an African guy. We had to instruct him about the location of our hotel; it was new. In the course of this I asked him where he was from. Kenya, he said. But then quickly added he was Somali. Many Somalians live in Kenya.

Ah, Somalia. Immediately the three adults in the car perked up. We acknowledged we knew there was big trouble in that country, the attack from Ethiopia on the ICU, etc. To our surprise, our driver immediately launched into a vitriolic attack on Al Qaeda. They were evil violent men, hijacking Islam across the globe. He had details of their infiltration of Somalia from a phone call he had made the previous night, how they were using Saudi money, etc. Thousands of people were being murdered by these Wahhabis for no reason. He was obviously following the situation closely. Al Qaeda was a danger to all mankind, he said.

It was a refreshing to hear this view from a Moslem taxi driver in Seattle. He was obviously pleased that we recognized the travails of his people too. So he continued with his explication of what was behind this terrible situation - how the Moslem religion could have been taken over by these violent forces. Someone was behind the rise of this Saudi Wahhabism . The answer, he said, was Israel. It was all an Israeli plot. They were behind the Wahhabis.

Suddenly our hearts sank. How could a man who seemed so reasonable, so knowledgeable, say something so obviously crazy?

Learn how. Go read the rest.

It's The Islam, Stupid

Iranian blogger Amil Imani explains the relationship between Islam and terrorism (thanks to Anonymouse for sending this in to us):

The terror and death inflicted on humanity is not the work of radical Islam, neither the political Islam, nor the militant Islam. It is Islam, period. Get it? And the perpetrators are not fringe elements confined to brainwashed Saudis, loony Taliban, or a know nothing Pakistanis who have hijacked Islam and are now in the business of mass murder.

The latest project of the practitioners of the “religion of peace” aimed to blowing planeloads of innocent civilians to smithereens in midair over the Atlantic -- ought to finally drive the point home: it is Islam, dummy. Get it?How could people calling themselves sincere God-fearing religionists bring themselves to even think of acts of such barbarity, yet plan them methodically and cold-bloodedly proceed to execute them?
The answer is Islam. The life manual of Islam, the Quran, is a document of exclusion, hatred and violence that shapes the Muslims’ thinking and behaving. This stone-age document is optimally suited for people of stunted development. People who prefer to follow than to think for themselves, to hate than to love, and to seek death rather than to celebrate life.

Sadly, Muslims themselves are the ones who are most victimized by Islam. They have inherited this viral psychological disease of hate and violence; they live by it, and transmit it to their children as well as to receptive others. A puzzle to non-Muslims: why any intelligent and reasonably sane person would live his life by the dogma of Islam? It is particularly disconcerting when this Muslim lives in a secular non-Islamic society. The befuddlement becomes mind-boggling when seemingly educated women in free societies voluntarily submit to the yoke of Islamic misogyny.

There are a number of possible explanations to the enigma of believing in Islam and even propagating it with zeal and violence. Some possible explanations are treated here.

For one, Islam is stamped on the impressionable mind of the child from birth. The parents and immediate members of the family are the ones who make the very first impressions on the tabula rasa of the young mind. These early impressions are the grid-work for further formation of the person’s mind and belief system. It is by far easier, as life goes on, to incorporate “items” that readily fit into the grid-work, than to modify it or dismantle it altogether and begin anew. It is in recognition of the importance of early training and education that people such as Saint Augustine and Freud considered the first few years of life as critical for molding the person. “Teaching the very young is like itching in the stone,” says an Eastern proverb.

Another reason is the herd mentality—stay with the group, be one of them, and don't strike out on your own. This strong disposition to belong is reinforced by privileges that the group bestows; social pressure, as well as the fear of castigation by the wielders of power. There is security and power in numbers—in any numbers.

Islam is also appealing for giving purpose and order to the person’s life—both the life on earth as well as an immortal life after death. Islam is omnipresent and omniscient father figure who draws the boundaries, points out the path, dictates the terms, holds the carrots and the sticks. It absolves the person, for most parts, from the often demanding tasks of dealing with difficult questions and choosing what to do with oneself—a highly attractive trade off for many. Accept Islam as your guide, follow its path and you will never have to suffer the agony of not knowing and having to make decisions by yourself; you will be guided along the path of eternal happiness and salvation. Just follow the unerring guide given to mankind by the seal of the prophet, Muhammad. An elaborate package of mostly illogical and bizarre prescriptions and proscriptions comes with the Islamic offer, covering every imaginable aspect of life.

In the matter of being a good Muslim, nothing is left to chance that one needs to figure out for himself.

“I think, therefore I am” said Rene Descartes in substantiating his claim to being a conscious being. “I don't think, I faith; therefore I am an automaton,” says the Muslim in absolving himself of the need for independent thinking.

Even the minutest detail of the Muslim’s life is rigidly structured. He is to perform the obligatory prayer, for instance, five times a day at the exact appointed times. He must drop everything and go through the prescribed gesticulation and recitation of the verses while facing Mecca. Before saying his prayer, however, he must perform ablution. The Ablution, using water, must be carried out in a precise manner and sequence. In the absence of water, the faithful can substitute soil for water and go through the practice of “purifying” himself by running soil over his hands, arms, face and feet. After completion of ablution, as prescribed, he may proceed to say his prayer unless he commits flatulence. In that case, he must re-perform the ablution all over again.

Being a good Muslim, particularly a good male Muslim, is indeed a full time job. Male Muslims are obligated to go for Hajj—women don't have to do so. Islam is a man’s religion, through and through. Women are to please men erotically, to attend to them like chattel, and birth them boys.

Going on Hajj and accumulating merit points for admission to Allah’s paradise is reserved for men. Women may also go to Hajj, if they are lucky enough to afford the journey or allowed by their owners, men, to do so. For women, there are no promises that by going on Hajj and paying tribute to the house of Allah they endear themselves to him.

“Women are calamities, but no home should be without one,” is an old Islamic characterization of women.

Hence, a woman is a necessity and not much more. In short, Islam treats its believers as children irrespective of age. An extensive cadre of mullahs and imams, who themselves are thoroughly indoctrinated, minister to the children. These professional leeches—the mullahs and imams—systematically program the mind of their charges through liberal use of fear, threats of hell, and occasional promises of eternal life of bliss in Allah’s paradise if they be obedient good children.

A Muslim is born Muslim, yet he acts as if he independently and through his own labor has discovered the great find; he clings to it as his cherished security blanket; and, would part with his life, rather than giving it up. It is, therefore, understandable what a recent poll has found.

Fully 81% of British Muslims consider themselves Muslims first and British second.

The 81% know full well that there is absolutely no chance of being harassed, much less persecuted, in Britain for professing their highest loyalty to Islam. So, they come out and admit it. The other 19% are even more Muslim.

They are practicing what the Quran teaches—dissimulation. Muslims are taught to lie. They lie when they have to and they lie when they don't have to, just to stay in practice.

The bottom-line is that the non-Islamic world has a huge problem on its hands—the ever-encroaching Islam. For as long as there are mosques, madrasehs, and Islamic centers; as long as a vast cadres of well-paid, highly indoctrinated and strategically placed mullahs and imams; and, as long as there are people who prefer to be treated as children, Islam will flourish anywhere and will pose an existential threat to unbelievers. All the excuses, grievances and reasons given for savagery of the jihadists and Islamofascists are side issues.

It is Islam, dummy. It is Islam itself. Get it?

Winds of War: Why We Can Lose to the Islamists

I’ve written quite a bit on the non-violent tactics of the Islamists. That’s the major theme of my blog. And these non-violent tactics have yet to be addressed in this conflict between the Islamists and the free non-Muslim world.

Though the war on terror as a name for this conflict is slowly being discredited, there is little to replace it. Though politicians, MSM analysts and media have agreed that we now face a fascist ideology held and promoted by what we call terrorists, they seem unable to say what the actual tactics are of those who hold that ideology beyond calling them terrorists. Thus, with their circular logic, they arrive back to square one. We must do something to end terrorism. When that happens, out marches the right and left solutions to the problem, all of which have done little to reduce that actual advance of the ideology throughout world.

From the Sudan to Somalia to Iran to Palestine to Afghanistan to Pakistan to Malaysia and Indonesia, the Islamists are advancing their objectives throughout the Muslim world through violent jihad and non-violent infiltration and intimidation. In the non-Muslim world, under the secular beliefs of multiculturalism and political correctness, Islamists have advanced their ideological agenda forcing the governments and institutions of the non-Muslim World to submit to Islamist demands under the promise of peaceful co-existence.

The result is that the non-Muslim world finds itself impotent or even unaware of the threat to its civilization, morals, values and beliefs.

Daniel Pipes writing recently in The Sun describes how the non-Muslim world can lose this clash of civilizations.

Being a part of the EU

The Guardian has the news, with the usual Spiel:

"Spain is to hire 180,000 immigrants in their countries of origin next year in an effort to stem illegal immigration while satisfying its demand for cheap labour."

It seems the business lobby in Spain is going full speed ahead in national destruction as we can see in the rest of the Western world. MORE

It's time to settle the fundamental issue ..is there a war going on? If so for what?

The headlines ANY DAY display it for all to see.
war_evidence.jpg

Senate Democrats plan to use their newfound power to revisit one of the most contentious national security matters of 2006: Deciding what legal rights must be protected for detainees held in the war on terrorism.

Afghanistan’s president on Thursday urged Pakistan to do more to stop Taliban and other militants sheltering and training on its territory rather than separating families with an impractical border fence and landmines.

A 45-member tribal jirga has warned pro-Taliban militant commanders against attacks on government officials and killings in North Waziristan.

Former Iranian officials spoke out against President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s hardline nuclear policies and urged a return to transparency and moderation, in interviews published on Thursday.

Bye Bye Saddam

I was pleasantly surprised to read tonight that Saddam's imminent hanging is likely to be much more imminent than the thirty days as initially reported earlier this week:
Former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein, sentenced to death for his role in 148 killings in 1982, will have his sentence carried out by Sunday, NBC News reported Thursday. According to a U.S. military officer who spoke on condition of anonymity, Saddam will be hanged before the start of the Eid religious holiday, which begins at sundown Saturday.
The hanging could take place as early as Friday, NBC’s Richard Engel reported.

(HT to Charles at Little Green Footballs)

Is it ungodly of me to take great delight in imagining Saddam cowering in fear in the shadow of the gallows?
I can understand the security concerns that will hang over this execution (if you'll pardon the expression), but I hope that they can contrive a way to let Saddam know the very specific date, time and minute that he is to die. Given his megalomania, I can think of no more fitting mode of punishment than inexorable justice, with him knowing that each sunset, each and every chime that rings in the next hour, all bring him closer to an inescapable death that he finds dishonorable (I can't find the link, but I remember reading somewhere that his choice is to be shot, in order to die a soldier's death).
Hit him where it will hurt most: his ego.

Hoping that I can add to his humiliation, I've compiled this musical to kick him while he's down. Enjoy:

"Democracy Yes! Caliphate No!"

From Spiegel Online;
East Berlin's First Mosque: The Muslims Are Coming!
A citizens' group in Berlin turned out this week for a candlelight vigil to protest plans for a new mosque in their neighborhood. It will be the first to be built in the former East Berlin, where almost no Muslims live -- but no one can quite explain why it shouldn't be there. more...

Uh, I can explain. Lots of folks in Eurabia can explain.
Seems pretty clear to me in the coming new world order America will have an ally in Eastern Europe.

Civil war coming between Fatah and Hamas

Youssef Ibrahim writes in the NY Sun that a civil war is likely to happen, Muslim vs. Muslim, and Fatah vs. Hamas:
This year has been momentous for the Middle East, but 2007 is going to be dramatic.

In the Gaza Strip and West Bank, a full-scale factional war will erupt among the Palestinian Arabs, with unpredictable consequences.

This time around, the "brotherhood" is over.

Fatah, Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and other assorted mafias will participate, while outside sponsors such as Iran, Syria, and Jordan will supply the bullets, rockets, money, and ill-will.
That's one more reason why sanctions must be declared against them, and Fatah, just like Hamas, must be outlawed.

It's the Joooos!

We constantly hear how the biggest enemy of Christianity and America are Muslims.

The truth is that although Muslims do not share all Christian beliefs, Islam is far closer to Christianity than Judaism. I already quoted the obscene attacks made on Jesus Christ by the Jewish Talmud. How many American Christians even realize that the Holy Qur'an of Islam actually defends Jesus Christ and His mother Mary from the hateful slanders of Judaism? As I pointed out earlier, the Talmud claims that the Gospels lie about the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. The Talmud actually boasts that the Jews and not the Romans were the ones who actually nailed Jesus to the Cross. These Talmudic Jews hate Jesus so much that they want to take all the credit for his murder. Amazingly, the Islamic holy book, the Qur'an disputes this Jewish lie and actually defends the truth of the gospel.

Melbourne Indymedia is a website produced by grassroots media makers offering non-corporate coverage of struggles, actions and celebrations. Everyone is a witness. Everyone is a journalist.
****

Dr. David Duke, author of that fine piece of journalism above, is a contributor to indymedia. Who'd have thought it? Well, we here think that fairly often, like when we post indistinguishable snippets of David Duke and Ken Livingstone as one piece. There is no dichotomy, Left and Right. There are fascists and primitives on the one side, neo-feudalists, philobarbarists, and dhimmis; and there are those who are mostly afraid to speak out against the Left dhimmi fascist conformity that rules our pubic discourse, those being the people I refer to perhaps idiosyncratically as Revolutionary Modernists. I know I'm not like David Duke. I'm not like Ken Livingstone. But they are like each other. The Klansman and the Trotskyite. Iranian hate-fest and indymedia. Me. Maybe you.

R for Reparations, also for Revenge

In this installment of my exposé of the Left-Islam unholy alliance, I show how the Left’s demand for “reparations for the wrongs of colonialism” serves as its connection point with Islam, how it is fundamentally irrational, and how it truly precludes any possibility of permanent peace.

I do not give colonialism a moral clean bill of health; there were wrongs, injustices committed by the Western colonial powers, that is a matter of historical record. But then those powers did some good things as well to the peoples they ruled, and those peoples in turn were not always the innocents the Leftists portray them (see for example the article The fraud of primitive authenticity, by Spengler of Asia Times). And whatever the case, it is irrational to hold the West guilty and obliged to atone for its past deeds, for no good is served by that—not to the former colonized peoples, nor to the West itself, which by that attitude is driven to suicide through self-loathing. My theme here is the great distance between rationality and the Left’s view of identity politics.

The Islamic Way of Bridge Building

The Lightness of Being put up this post. I fisked.

She replied earlier today. What follows is another, inevitable, fisking.

After a few paragraphs of palaver, she says:

First of all, I have as much right to criticize this society as any one else. I work, I pay taxes, I contribute and I help out in every way that is possible. I am a peaceful and loving woman, intelligent and valuable in every sense of the word. No one is doing me any favors by giving me a space in this society. It is my patriotic duty and in essence what makes this society great, to speak up.

When did I question your right to speak up? Seriously, in over two years of blogging with almost 5000 posts when have I made any statement that would spark that kind of reply?

Don’t give me that ungrateful crap, because when it is all said and done, my very presence here, demands my voice to be heard. You will not marginalize my voice and my existence simply because you deem it irrelevant.

No-one has the right to be heard. Do give the matter some thought.

Irrelevant? To the contrary, I think your voice is very relevant. As this post unfolds, you'll see why.

Second, the claim that Islam is not a race, therefore up for criticism, is fine as long as you actually spend time critiquing the religion in an intelligent manner and not tarnishing every single Muslim with the malign stereotypes you have caricatured in your head for them.

How big of you to say, "Yeah, Islam can be criticized as long as one doesn't do A, B, C..." You sure have a handle on free speech.

Islam ought to be critiqued in any way imaginable. If you dislike the whipping, then go ahead and air your thoughts and feelings. That's the essence of free speech.

If a few people commit crimes on behalf of Islam, it’s not my place to apologize for them. And yes, declaring everyone “guilty until proven innocent” simply by association is an act of hatred, racism and honestly stupidity.

So, Islam is not a race but if I don't approve of Islam (and thus, by extension, those who follow it), then I'm a racist. It's funny that one can be a racist while not taking into account any race.

It’s so cute to pretend we forget the crimes committed by Christians, by Jews, by atheists by Communists by any other group for the privilege of the few. Excuse me let us pretend the inquisitions never happened, let us justify the crusades, let us move beyond slavery and colonization AND neo colonization.

This is what I wrote: "How many Christians, Jews, atheists and Buddhists murder innocents in the name of their God / beliefs in the modern world?" This gal has to go back centuries to find comparable crimes by Christians!

Maliha wasn't satisfied by limiting herself to Islamic stupidity. She had to bring in Leftist lunacy to spice things up:

Let us pretend that Zionism and occupation is not happening. Let us act like the IMF and World Bank aren’t pillaging third world countries. Let us pretend that keeping a majority of the world’s population in poverty and debt is justifiable. Let us then close our eyes to multi national corporations raping and pillaging the world for the comfort of the few.

I'm curious, how does one pillage a third world country?

“Perhaps, I missed the news about the Jewish group that took Palestinian kids hostage, and then later raped and murdered hundreds of them.”

Oh no, you are obviously not reading the news, and forgot that Jews are currently occupying and terrorizing Palestinians every single day (and have been for decades?) Have we forgotten their plight?

The Palestinians voted in a genocidal terror group as their government. They've chosen open war with Israel. It's illogical and immoral to blame that tiny nation for defending herself.

Isaac, you have been reading my blog and cutting and pasting what’s convenient for your opinions and worldview.

That is an odd way of looking at the matter. I wasn't born with rigid opinions and a worldview--they were defined and conceived after living in Muslim nations and reading Islamic sources.

See, this is why your voice is so relevant:

  1. I am thankful everyday for leaving behind such a horrific and debilitating religion. Your precious words only reinforce my decision.
  2. I get to present your thoughts to a larger audience. I think that the collective West has an excellent sense and a superb BS detector. I bet that when most of them read what I have to say, they share my judgment. When they read the statements of angels like you, they again share my judgment. It's a win-win!

More from Maliha:

Spewing out hatred and spreading stereotypes is simply a self defeating act. If you want to spend your time burning bridges and spreading hate, that’s your prerogative, please don’t pull me down that hole with you.

Are you implying that you're building bridges!? You say that the MSM maligns Muslims and that in the US there is "systematic dehumanization" of Muslims. In addition, the financial organizations are raping the downtrodden, the West is "keeping the world poor" and the Jews are terrorizing innocents.

What kind of rhetoric would you use if you were burning bridges?

Should you choose to make this phantom of “Islam” your arsenal, then I can’t help you and it’s not your place to demand that I justify my beliefs to you and your likes.

When did I demand that. Sounds like a... phantom demand! In any case, you can't justify your beliefs. They have no basis in either rationality or morality.

Which Is The Zombie?

The blogger, or Human Rights Watch?

Well, the bloggers name happens to be Zombie, but I'm afraid it is more likely that Human Rights Watch is the brain-dead, flesh-eating monster in this case.

Human Rights Watch is trying, in a very inept manner, to make the case that Israel purposely targeted a Red Cross ambulance during the Hizbollah War. Now, of course, Israel would have good reason to target a Red Cross ambulance, if they did, because Palestinians on occasion used them to launch attacks.

However, there is scant evidence that Israel did any such thing.

Check out this portion of Human Rights Watch's case against Israel:

Human Rights Watch cannot conclusively state which missiles were used in the attack on the ambulances, because our researchers did not find diagnostic shrapnel or missile parts at the scene, and because of the experimental nature of some missiles used by the IDF....

Regardless of the weapon used, the IDF certainly has the capability to attack vehicles with limited impact missiles designed to cause low collateral damage....

The missile traveled from the roof of ambulance 777 through the gurney on which Ahmed Fawaz was strapped, severing his leg, and then through the floor of the ambulance deep into the pavement of the road.

Ah yes, the "experimental nature of some missiles used by the IDF." I mean, if the IDF uses "experimental missiles" then Human Rights Watch has no responsibility to actually provide any evidence in the end, because they wouldn't know what to look for, now would they?

And, for God's sake, we know those sneaky Jews are always working with nefarious super-weapons of one kind or another.

Funny that the evidence left by this particular diabolical Jewish super-weapons seems to bear a striking to a "kinetic energy penetrator" - you know, like a cannonball.

Go over to Zombie's site and read the whole thing.

Charles points out that Human Rights Watch is funded by George Soros.

Storm Track Appeasement: Blair's Descent Into Dhimmitude

Has Tony Blair’s pilot light gone out? Is he a sandwich short of a full picnic? What’s happening to this man as he winds down his stint as PM of Britain?

He, and along with Prince Charles, have been ramble down the path of dhimmitude for the last several months but these remarks from Tony Blair in Foreign Affairs, January/February 2007, proves how far along he is in his submission to Islam in Britain.

To me, the most remarkable thing about the Koran is how progressive it is. I write with great humility as a member of another faith. As an outsider, the Koran strikes me as a reforming book, trying to return Judaism and Christianity to their origins, much as reformers attempted to do with the Christian church centuries later.

What the?! Attempted to do? Did this man not study history in college? Christianity WAS reformed and that reformation broke the back of theocratic rule in Europe and lead to the separation of church and which culminated with the American Constitution and a secular government that’s ruled by the law of man and not the law of an interpreted God.

The Koran is inclusive. It extols science and knowledge and abhors superstition.

Oh really? FaithFreedom.org thinks otherwise.

There are so many superstitions in Islam that one can safely surmise that the entire edifice of Islam stands firmly on many such mythological /supernatural narrations. When one reads the fundamental scriptures of Islam, namely; the Qur’an and many Ahadith, one is bound to find copious superstitious stories and practices. The belief in such irrational and illogical stories and tales is bound to give rise to many fanatical believers and this could be the root cause of Islamic frenzy among its blind believers.

Blair’s submission to Islam goes even deeper.

Our buds, the Al Saud, and the family gas station, and lack of accountability in Israel

From Gertz....

How the Saudis play hardball with their Western allies

abqaiq_from_space.jpg
The United States could learn a lesson from Britain on the ramifications of angering Saudi Arabia.

The Saudis forced Britain to drop an investigation into an alleged slush fund for Saudi princes connected to the Al Yamamah project, in which the Arab kingdom bought about $80 billion in weapons, training and services from London since 1985. Within three months, Riyad turned British law on its head and demonstrated what George Orwell wrote: "All animals are created equal, but some are more equal than others."

At first, the Saudi family warned Britain that Riyad would cancel agreements to buy more than $15 billion worth of aircraft from London. In the summer of 2006, the Saudis signed accords to purchase of 72 Eurofighters and upgrade 80 Tornado fighters.

When that didn't work, Saudi Arabia threatened to end its intelligence exchange with Britain. In 2005, Riyad began relaying alerts of Al Qaida plots to London, including a strike on London's mass transit system.

Finally, the Saudis pulled out all the stops. The Arab kingdom said it would expel all British military and intelligence personnel from Saudi Arabia. Riyad would have nothing to do with Britain and Al Yamamah would end.

Those threats finally moved the British government. Attorney General Lord Peter Goldsmith ordered police to end the investigation, pronto. Anti-corruption investigations that involve other countries could continue. The Saudis became untouchable.

The Blair government has sought a new spin to the cancellation of the investigation into the Saudis. Aides to Blair say the investigation would have torpedoed a Middle East peace process.

We also can pay attention to our own dismal history...when the Khobar Towers got whacked and the FBI sent over people to interrogate the suspects, not the special FBI agent in charge, Louis Freeh or President Clinton could really make it happen.

Why not?

According to Lawrence Wright, the instant the evidence started pointing to Iran and Hizballah they whisked off the suspects and beheaded them (SHOCK SHOCK),...Turki al Faisal, then head of Saudi Intelligence, recently a resigned US Ambassador, the replacement for Bandar, told the US, 'suppose you nuke the Iranians, you are 6000 miles away, and we have to live with these people'.

The obvious conclusions from Hizballah War, and India

From Gertz...

Mossad: Israeli deterrence diminished, Syria emboldened by war

katyusha_dry_brush.jpg
JERUSALEM — Israel's intelligence community has concluded that the military's poor performance in the 2006 war against Lebanon has eroded Israeli deterrence.

Officials said the military's failure to defeat Hizbullah has encouraged Iran and Syria to prepare for another conflict with the Jewish state. "Israel's military deterrence was damaged in the war," Mossad Director Meir Dagan said. "As a result, Assad's self-confidence grew. They are prepared to take more risks than in the past."

Dagan's Dec. 18 testimony to the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee marked the first time that a senior Israeli official reported a decline in deterrence. Over the past few months, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and his aides have asserted that Israel defeated Hizbullah and bolstered deterrence.

But Dagan said Israel's poor performance in the 34-day war against Hizbullah has led to a Syrian military buildup. The Mossad chief, who dismissed reports that Assad wanted to negotiate a peace settlement with Israel, said Syria has been preparing for a massive retaliation to any Israeli strike.

The Islamic Brand of Idiocy

Lightness of Being:

I love listening to right wing radio and sometime surfing the web to just hear what people on the “other” side of the fence are saying about current events. Yes, it does make my blood boil (I haven’t mastered the art of remaining cool in front of particular brands of idiocy) [...]

Speaking of which:

In discussing Islam and Muslims, there is a pattern that follows a predictable course of events. News stories are gathered far and wide, of every single foible that has been committed by someone whose religion happens to be Islam. The crime is discussed at length by experts who manage to draw in Islamic scripture (forever out of context) to justify where these people are getting their inspiration from. Maligning Islam and Muslims is the order of the day.

Oh, please. The MSM goes out of its way to obscure the Muslim angle. The culprits are often described as "militants" (Iraq), "youths" (France) or "activists" (Hamas). The same media pixelated or didn't even bother to showcase the most newsworthy cartoons in history because they didn't want their heads chopped off to offend Muslims.

What would happen if a concerted effort was made to look into every criminal (street or at the state level) to tally up their crimes and their respective religions (whether they follow the particular religion or not). What would happen if we woke up one fine morning and decided to tally up all the crimes committed by followers of Christianity, Judaism, Atheism, Buddhism…

How many Christians, Jews, atheists and Buddhists murder innocents in the name of their God / beliefs in the modern world?

Perhaps, I missed a video from Rome in which a Christian group chants, "In the name of Our Lord" as they plunge a dagger into the heart of a non-Christian.

Perhaps, I missed the news about the Jewish group that took Palestinian kids hostage, and then later raped and murdered hundreds of them.

Perhaps, I didn't follow the story about a couple of atheists who shouted "Marx Akbar" as they blew themselves up in the mosque in Medina.

Perhaps, I was on vacation when nineteen Buddhists plowed a couple of airliners into downtown Beijing.

This same logic was used to denigrate African Americans, such that any time any crime was committed by a Black person, the whole race would be maligned because of it. The same racist tendencies were used to isolate Japanese people, Jewish people, the Irish, and so on and so forth.

That's cute. Though, do note: Islam ain't a race.

Why is it acceptable to twist Islam and tarnish all Muslims with the same brush (because of the actions of the few); while it is now looked on as reprehensible to do so with any of the other minority/majority groups that have their own share of problems still.

Again: Islam is a religion / an ideology / a cult. It can be mocked and criticized. If you think that what Islam demands of you is deranged, then leave the faith. If, however, you think that the criticism of Islam is not justified, then please do tell us why. Constantly whining like a three-year-old and calling yourself a victim doesn't help.

It’s heartbreaking to deal with this systematic dehumanization of Muslims.

Systematic dehumanization? It'd be nice to provide a few examples.

In over a decade in Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, my family and I were treated as garbage--we had to hide our faith and keep our heads down to get by. However, here in Western nations, to whom I appear a Muslim, I've never felt more human. How utterly repulsive it is for this ungrateful woman to enjoy such historical freedom and precious liberty and then to conveniently trash the very people and society that provide her that.

Jihad in Slow Motion

Mean Mr. Mustard:

[...] rather than answering the question, someone accuses Dreher of cultural ignorance and bigotry. One hopes this playbook is becoming more transparent every day.

Oh, it is.

RD: Do you believe that homosexuals convicted in a sharia court should be killed, or otherwise punished physically?

ME: I don’t condone homosexuality. I have a lot of friends, a lot of people who work for me, just so you know. I don’t go kill them. But, you know, I don’t condone what they do outside of work, so long as it’s something not in front of me. So do I condone the sharia? We don’t apologize for our religion. Islamification of Malaysia

I linked to the case of Lina Joy in August.

Today, LFG talks about the Malaysian madness as well.

LAWYER Malik Imtiaz Sawar seems a most unlikely person to attract death threats. A small, softly spoken, friendly man, the impression he gives is above all one of consideration.

What has earned him the death threats is his appearance in court on behalf of Lina Joy, a case that has become a battleground of Malaysian political and cultural identity, and of freedom of religion.

Who is Lina Joy?

Lina Joy was once a Muslim but has converted to Christianity. She didn’t do so to make any broad point or to lead any social movement. It was entirely a private decision. But in Malaysia the state takes official notice of your race and religion. Lina Joy tried to get herself deregistered as a Muslim and reregistered as a Christian. As a Muslim she is not allowed to marry a Christian man and any children she has must be brought up as Muslims.

When the state authorities refused to accept her conversion she appealed to the courts on the basis of Article 11 of the Malaysian constitution, which guarantees freedom of religion. The case, in which judgment could be given at any time, has polarised Malaysia. Many Muslims believe apostasy - changing your religion - is not only a sin but should be punishable by death.

Such lovely people.

Remember our Fallen Heroes

"They won't understand why we do it. They won't understand that it's about the men next to you, and that's it. That's all it is." -Blackhawk Down

By Jeff Emanuel- Redstate.com

Michael Monsoor, of Garden Grove, California, felt the same call to serve his country that had previously led his father and brother into the Marine Corps.
Monsoor, though, was pulled in a different direction than his family members had been: he was drawn to the United States Navy, not out of a desire to serve in the fleet, but out of a burning ambition to serve as a Navy SEAL, one of America's Special Operations elites. Monsoor succeeded at BUD/S (Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL) training, and was assigned to SEAL Team 3, based at Coronado, CA.
It was in Iraq, though, that he repeatedly demostrated the bravery and heroism which are characteristic of America's fighting men and women, as he fought alongside his teammates, and it was in that same country, on September 29, 2006, that the 25-year-old gave his life to protect them.

PO2 Michael Monsoor, center, sent this photo home from Iraq shortly before his death. A recipient of the Bronze Star Medal for his earlier actions in the War on Terror, Monsoor was recently awarded the Silver Star, the third-highest medal conferred upon members of the United States military, for his valor and selflessness while engaged in a firefight in Ramadi in May, when, according to the report, "he and another SEAL pulled a team member shot in the leg to safety while bullets pinged off the ground around them." Just three months ago, as RedStater Rick Moran reported so well, Monsoor's willingness to risk his life for his teammates was demonstrated to the utmost. According to the Navy's official narrative of events:On 29 September, Monsoor was part of a sniper overwatch security position in eastern Ramadi, Iraq, with three other SEALs and eight Iraqi soldiers. They were providing overwatch security while joint and combined forces were conducting missions in the area. Ramadi had been a violent and intense area for a very strong and aggressive insurgency for some time. All morning long the overwatch position received harassment fire that had become a typical part of the day for the security team. Around midday, the exterior of the building was struck by a single rocket propelled grenade (RPG), but no injuries to any of the overwatch personnel were sustained. The overwatch couldn't tell where the RPG came from and didn't return fire. A couple of hours later, an insurgency fighter closed on the overwatch position and threw a fragment grenade into the overwatch position which hit Monsoor in the chest before falling in front of him. Monsoor yelled "Grenade!" and dropped on top of the grenade prior to it exploding. Monsoor's body shielded the others from the brunt of the fragmentation blast and two other SEALs were only wounded by the remaining blast.

One of the key aspects of this incident was the way the overwatch position was structured. There was only one access point for entry or exit and Monsoor was the only one who could have saved himself from harm. Instead, knowing what the outcome could be, he fell on the grenade to save the others from harm. Monsoor and the two injured were evacuated to the combat outpost battalion aid station where Monsoor died approximately 30 minutes after the incident from injuries sustained by the grenade blast.Take a moment to re-read that final paragraph, and to contemplate what it says about the magnitude of Monsoor's sacrifice. Due to the orientation of the room, and the location of its only exit, the only person who could have escaped in time to survive was Mike Monsoor. Doing so, though, would have meant abandoning the others in the room to greivous injury or, more likely, death. Knowing both courses of action, and the consequences of each, he had to make a split-second decision. As it has been so eloquently put elsewhere: The men who were there that day say they could see the options flicker across Michael Monsoor's face: save himself or save the men he had long considered brothers. He chose them.

Such a decision, though made in less than an instant, carries the weight of a thousand lifetimes - as those whose lives would have ended that day but for Monsoor's action will carry that weight in gratitude for as long as they live.In April of 2004, 24-year-old Marine Corporal Jason Dunham made a similar sacrifice, as he jumped on a grenade to save the lives of his comrades. His father described the impuslse - and the decision - to give his life for his comrades thus:When you are in a war situation, that guy beside you is your brother or sister. And I think that most of us would give up our lives for our family.Over two years later, Dunham was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his selfless, heroic sacrifice. Now, three months after he gave his life for his teammates, Monsoor has been nominated for a Medal of Honor of his own. "Greater love hath no man than this - that he lay down his life for his friends."

The mindset that allows - or forces - a man to put himself into harm's way for the purpose of saving another is difficult to describe; however, such selflessness - and love for one's fellow man - is a defining characteristic of the soldier, the sailor, the airman, and the Marine who has faced combat, and who has experienced the reality of having his life entirely in the hands of the men next to him, while having each of those in his own hands. According to Joseph Blake, a sociologist who has "researched the act of soldiers throwing themselves on grenades":A combat situation has not a whole lot to do with patriotism or the folks back home...They are fighting for their buddies. They don't want to let their buddies down. Said Monsoor's mother, "We just knew that if Mike was put in a situation like he was, he wouldn't hesitate."

According to the AP:One SEAL lieutenant, who asked not to be identified by name for security reasons, watched Monsoor shield him and others from exploding hot metal Sept. 29 when the grenade blew up their sniper position in Ramadi, in Anbar province.
"Mikey had the best chance of avoiding harm altogether," said the officer. "But he never took his eye off the grenade." A mere two weeks from redeploying home from Iraq himself, Monsoor gave up his life so that the men around him would have a chance to return to their families. This holiday season, as we enjoy ourselves, our loved ones, and our lives, let us pause for a moment and reflect upon the sacrifices of men like Mike Monsoor, who willingly gave up his life and his future - the ability to ever see his family again, to spend time with his loved ones, to have a family of his own - so that each man with him would have a chance to do so.
There truly can be no greater love, no more heroic act, than this. The men whose lives were saved by the direct intervention of Mike Monsoor, Jason Dunham, will carry the burden of gratitude with them to the grave. The sacrfices of these true warriors did not make them heroes, but simply demonstrated what heroic men they were all along.

As we remember the reason for this Christmas season, it is of the utmost importance that we reflect on this fact: the scope of these men's sacrifices is far greater than the relatively small number of people who were spared by their action. Each of the soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines who has died in combat has done so to save each of us; the bullets they have taken, and the grenades they have thrown themselves upon, have been aimed, indirectly, at every one of us, and those who have felt their impact, and have given their lives in battle, have done so, much like Christ did, in our place, that we may live. So, to Mike Monsoor, Jason Dunham, and so many others, we owe - at the very least - a tip of the cap, eternal gratitude, and an undying commitment never - ever - to take for granted those things which we, due to their sacrifices, can continue to enjoy, but which they, due once again to their sacrifices, will never again be able to do.
