I’m not much of a network TV fan but having heard so much about the show 24 I decided to finally watch the season opener. It started out with the one our worst nightmares. Islamic homicide bombers were blowing themselves up in malls, hotels, restaurants and on buses in cities across the country. Faced with a growing national paranoia, the President’s security advisor strongly suggests setting up detention camps for “anyone who prays to
Of course there was the usual banter about civil rights being violated and comparisons to the Japanese and German internment camps here in this country during WW II. Both sides of the issue were discussed briefly and one point important point was made. If we alienated the American Muslim population they would cease their help finding and identifying extremists in their community. Hopeful thinking based on much of today’s Muslim behavior? Perhaps.
That aside, I waited patiently to see how the show would tackle the internment issue. But TV being what it is, taking on such complex subjects is too much even for a show like 24. No. The show’s answer to the constitutional crisis was a simple one. If they found the terrorist leader in the country directing the attacks, the carnage would cease. So, off to get the bad guy whoever it turns out to be and peace and security in the country will be restored.
I guess the writers haven’t heard of Zarqawi. We killed him and the terrorist attacks continued.

Fresh from visiting the "24" thread at LGF comes this tidbit. Break out the barf bags. The Canadians are premiering a sitcom titled "Little Mosque on the Prairie"!?! WTF?!?
The whirring noise you hear is Rose Wilder Lane and Roger Lea MacBride spinning in their graves.
The author must not be a fan of 24. The issue is not necessarily too much for them to tackle. Last night was the first episode of the season for crying out loud. 24 Does not face a situation and solve it every week. It's not "House" for terrorism. There are 22 more hours of show left for them to pick up and further develop (or not) certain themes.
Furthermore, the writers, in having a character push the "cut of the head" idea, are merely depicting what this country already does. They are trying to be realistic, even when our own government or what it does are NOT realistic.
WC, I read the whole post over at The Gathering Storm, and I have to ask myself: Are you kidding? Our enemy "is not Islam, but Islamism"?!?!? - that's almost like hearing the halal cowboy in the White House spilling his guts.

I know I seem to be leaving the fold but to me, we are fighting an 'ism' like Nazism and Communism. Not a religion or a country. Yes, Islam as a whole seems to be the culprit but we have to keep in mind that if we leave any religion to its fundamental devices, they will turn tyrannical. What keeps religions in the free world in their place is our belief in secular government and human rights and the law of man - influenced by our cultural religious backgrounds - but not the law of God.
I explained what Islamism is and the tactics used by those who want to advance it throughout the world. To call every Muslim an Islamist is like calling every Christian a fundamentalist. Both follow the strict interpretation of their religious book and would run roughshod over the Bill of Rights if given the likes of the Robertsons and Falwells.
I’m saying that to wage war on over a billion people is unrealistic and will not work unless we bring down the world with us. There are those that say kill every Muslim but that’s impractical. We need to have leaders who will identify the ideology and then confront those individual Muslims, organizations and institutions that support and advance the Islamist ideology every day.
That’s all I’m saying. We need to approach the threat logically not emotionally no matter how idiotic some Muslims want to act. We and the vast number of Muslims sitting on the sidelines listening to the negative rhetoric of their clerics and political leaders need to push back the ideology when we see and they it and have the moral courage to defend our beliefs, morals, values and culture.
It’s in their best interests to go on the offensive in defensive of the nation they live in because it’s they who will eventually suffer the consequences. The question is, how we get them to do it while removing the threat – both violent and non-violent - of the Islamists at the same time.
WC states what I've heard all too frequently . . .
"to wage war on over a billion people is unrealistic and will not work"
That is what gives islam the belief they can win. In all honesty, will this war become any more winnable when there are 1.5 billion believers? 2 billion believers? Demographics will radically alter our children's and grandchildren's lives. Do you honestly believe a just war policy ( see Cubed's essay above) sane?
Know islam = no peace
NO ISLAM = KNOW PEACE
I stand by my position. We need to get smart about fighting this struggle. We need to lay down real tactics in response to the multiple jihads of the Islamists. I know this is not a popular position but we have to paint with fine brush and not a broad one.
Are the only alternatives exterminating 1 billion people or on the other hand live under Islamist rule. Neither will happen - or if the extermination does, it will take us all down with them.
Let's get real here folks and use our heads. This struggle will be won by fighting smart on all fronts - violent and non-violent just as the Islamists are doing. If it all devolves to WW 4 with a theater of war stretching from North Africa to the Philippines, who will help us fight it? Not the Europeans. Yeah, yeah, sprout mushroom clouds all across half the globes – unrealistic. As I said before, identify the ideology and its tactics and go after those who support or advance it, Muslim or otherwise. Show some backbone and show the Islamist that we will not submit to their cultural, legal, media, institutional, financial jihads and their thuggery. That’s where our efforts should lie.
If not the next decade will be nasty and brutish for all involved.
