Saving Musharraf

Pervez Musharraf, the president of Pakistan is to visit Europe this week. I wonder if that is a good idea. At this crucial time perhaps he should stay in charge of the shop. The Islamists were bound to succeed in their assassination attempts on the life of Benizir Bhutto. It wasn't if, but when.

They are equally determined to kill Musharraf. He will live longer if he stays in Pakistan surrounded by his own pretorian guard. From The Sunday Times today:

SPANISH police say they have foiled an attempt by Islamic extremists to carry out bomb attacks coinciding with a state visit to Europe by Pervez Musharraf, the president of Pakistan.

Alfredo Perez Rubalcaba, the Spanish interior minister, said that five homes and a mosque in central Barcelona had been raided and a quantity of bomb-making material had been seized, including four detonators. Twelve Pakistanis and two Indians were arrested on Friday.

Rubalcaba said police acted on a tip-off from “another secret service” and discovered that some of those detained were about to purchase explosives.

The arrests were made just days before a visit to Europe this week by Musharraf. He is due to go to France and the UK and attend the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

The minister said that he could not reveal more about the police operation which was continuing but the National Intelligence Centre (CNI), the Spanish secret service, had warned at least four other European countries to prepare for “imminent attacks”.

A source at the CNI told El Pais, the Spanish newspaper, that the countries facing the immediate threat were France, Britain and Portugal.

In my view a dictatorship is the only way to keep the Islamists from taking over Pakistan. Another thought; can democracy effectively stop the Islamification of the West? Please discuss.

It could, if we would just be realistic.

First off, Sharia law is the constitution of an Islamic government, literally (Saudi Arabia) and in theory (as the purpose of Jihad is to spread Allah's law - Sharia).

Therefore, advocating for the implementation of Sharia law within the West is sedition.

If we would realize this, and come to a decision that there is no way we are going to allow for the spread of Sharia, then Democracy would have the tools it needs to stop Islamification.

We would simply jail, try, and hang anyone who advocated for Sharia.

The problem is, we would have to be very realistic. We would have to decide that we were not going to put up with any taqiyya.

I am coming to the view that the weak leadership cannot defeat Islamification because they will increasingly submit to islamic demands.

In the meantime there is no politician in the West that is strong enough to speak the truth as we Infidels know it - discounting the far right.

It seems to me that strong dictatorships are the answer. hence I believe that we should all pray that Musharraf remains in power in Pakistan. Russia is gaining in strength due to a de facto dictatorship and our Islamic adversaries are mainly lacking in democracy.

Ray, half our lot over hear think the Bush administration is a "strong dictatorship". I accept the need for that level of government control only in time of war. I mean real war, not Iraq but the entire war against Islamist aggression in the form of a full-blown military confrontation. Which I fear is what it eventually will become because our so-called leadership refuses to pick up the ball in time to save us from it.

Love the idea of either applying the Sharia law to the Islamists or locking them up for trying to apply it to us. Fat chance, though.
