Bush Prepares Crisis Briefings to Aid Obama

WASHINGTON — The White House has prepared more than a dozen contingency
plans to help guide President-elect Barack Obama if an international crisis erupts in the opening days of his administration, part of an elaborate operation devised to smooth the first transition of power since Sept. 11, 2001.

The memorandums envision a variety of volatile possibilities, like a North Korean
nuclear explosion, a cyberattack on American computer systems, a terrorist
strike on United States facilities overseas or a fresh outbreak of instability
in the Middle East, according to people briefed on them. Each then outlines
options for Mr. Obama to consider.

The contingency planning goes beyond what other administrations have done,
with President Bush and Mr. Obama vowing to work in tandem to ensure a more
efficient transition in a time of war and terrorist threat. The commission that
investigated the Sept. 11 attacks, noting problems during the handover from
President Bill Clinton to Mr. Bush, called for a better process “since a catastrophic
attack could occur with little or no notice,” as its report put it.

The rest here

But the money shot: "For a president thinking about crisis management,” Mr. Carafano said, “the most important thing is not decision making, it’s public relations.”

What PR agency would Nick Berg, Daniel Pearl or any other beheaded dhimmi choose today?

The entire public apparatus of the USA has been for years all about appearance and not substance.

Diplomacy is appearance.
Multilateralism is appearance.
Negotiation with terrorists is appearance
Making believe solving the west bank and gaza will end the war with islamists is appearance.
Pretending all of Obama associations are meaningless is appearance.

What is substance in this world?

Until further notice
So sorry
Really

Epam

How are you doing up there in Maine? I hope you were above the ice storm line. Friend of mine got caught in that one a few years ago and didn't get power for 2 weeks.

Of course if the Iranians or NKs or somebody ever gets an EMP off over Kansas that will be the whole country for a couple years.

Nothing where I am but it's going to snow tomorrow and again Sunday and I'm working the next 6 days straight 9 hours each so if I don't get to comment much (or coherently), everybody have a Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah and whatever. Also if anyone knows anything about Social Security/Medicare, I've about decided to take SS a year early at 65 (it's $8 a month less in my case, and I sell postcards on eBay for more than that) and are there any open manholes I'm heading for that I don't know about?

Sounds like they do expect something major on or about 1/20/09and I wonder if they're not being a bit more specific behind closed doors. Maybe that bit about "what would happen if the top leadership of the nation were wiped out in a single stroke" will get Obambi's attention. That's you, dude.

Nothing to do with this post, but I have just had one of those "Eureka" moments. A remarkable coincidence with those 57 states that Obama has mentioned. There are 57 member states of the Organization of the Islamic Conference.

Hmmmm. I thought Barry already knew it all. Am I wrong?

Revere -- Do you get the sense a decapitation strike is in the works? The inauguration would be the most likely time to try. And, I would hope, the hardest to penetrate.
