Muslim Mindset: 'The hatred is in Muhammad himself'

To Westerners and moderate Muslims shocked by the radical form of Islam now topping nightly newscasts, the efforts of liberal-minded Muslims like Tawfik Hamid, Italian Sheikh Abdul Hadi Palazzi and a handful of others may seem like the perfect solution. Not so for Ali Sina, who has a different suggestion: destroy Islam.

Sina, who runs Faith Freedom International - an Internet forum dedicated to debunking Islam - calls himself "probably the biggest anti-Islam person alive."

The publication of his latest book, Understanding Muhammad: A Psychobiography of Allah's Prophet, will likely cement that position. In it, Sina suggests that Islam's central figure suffered from a series of mental disorders, including narcissistic personality disorder, temporal lobe epilepsy and obsessive compulsive disorder.

"These disorders," he says via telephone, "can explain the phenomenon known as Islam... which is nothing but one man's insanity."

Sina grew up a non-practicing Muslim. Raised in Iran, educated in Pakistan and Italy and now living in Canada, he began jousting with believers in the 1990s. What bothered him, he tells The Jerusalem Post, was not the penchant for jihad and intolerance that certain fanatical Muslims displayed, but the foundation for such ills in the Koran and core Islamic texts.

(Through the Faith Freedom Web site, Sina lists canonical references to Muhammad's actions and offers $50,000 to anyone who can disprove Sina's charge that Islam's prophet was "a narcissist, a misogynist, a rapist, a pedophile, a lecher, a torturer, a mass murderer, a cult leader, an assassin, a terrorist, a mad man and a looter." Respondents relentlessly attack Sina's motives, but none has won the prize.)

With violent conquest and contempt for non-believers central to the tenets of the faith, Sina argues, attempts to forge a moderate form of Islam are doomed.

"The idea that Islam can be reformed is a fallacy," he scoffs. "It's like saying we can reform Nazism and it will be a wonderful party."

No, says Sina, "The only way to reform Islam is to throw away the Koran; 90 percent of it should be thrown away. You also have to throw away the history of Islam, and you have to completely disregard the Sira" - the Arabic term used for the various traditional Muslim biographies of Muhammad, from which most historical information about his life and the early period of Islam is derived.

For this reason, Sina says, Western suggestions that extremism in Islam can be eradicated if certain imams are quieted, or if Muslims are encouraged to embrace the universalist elements of their faith - but without addressing the extremism inherent in the religion's texts - are based on a mistaken comparison of Islam to Christianity.

"In the West, people ask whether Islam can undergo a reformation like the one that Christianity underwent. That's a poor parallel," he says. "In Christianity, it wasn't the religion that needed to be reformed, but the church; what Jesus preached was good."

On the other hand, Sina continues, "In Islam, it's not the community that is bad, but the religion.

Islam has nothing like 'Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.' Islam is full of hatred, and the hatred is in Muhammad himself. I argue in my book that Muhammad was insane - and that Muslims, by emulating him and by emulating his ways, his insanity is bequeathed to them."

Sina has little patience for those who believe they can temper Islam with reason and mutual respect, or for those who remain cowed by the masses of Muslim devotees around the world.

"Islam is the biggest hoax, the biggest lie," he says. "Yes, a billion people believe it. But truth is truth. People will eventually see it. Believe me, there is no other answer. We will pay a great price until we realize that this is the solution - to undermine Islam itself, to show Muslims that this religion is not from God, that Muhammad was a charlatan and a liar."

Sina knows that his blunt, outspoken approach can be "problematic." But he is confident nonetheless that the force of his arguments will ultimately prevail.

"I am sure that, with time, I will convince millions and millions of Muslims, and the foundations of Islam will collapse," he says.

Already, he continues, Faith Freedom has attracted an impressive amount of attention.
"In Iran, my site is banned. In many parts of Pakistan, it is banned. The list goes on," he says. "Despite this, I have over 10 million readers in just over two and a half years. And I have received letters from Muslims from all over the world. Muslims everywhere are paying attention. I believe that Muslims everywhere are realizing that something is amiss.

"If I didn't have so much success in convincing people, then I would not be so confident. But I see that truth works. So many people who are now writing for me and putting things up on Youtube; seven or eight years ago, we were having fierce debates. Now, they are my greatest allies. There are many people who have seen the light after reading FFI and many of them are now working on my side, trying to help others to see the truth.

"This is the way to fight evil. I do not want to kill the enemy. I want to win them as friends and allies. That is the real victory. In this way, we win because we eliminate our enemy, and our enemy wins by eliminating his ignorance and hate. That is why I believe in my cause. That is why I think I am an instrument of peace."

Ex-BNP Activist Apparently Now Recruiting For Al Qaeda

A former British National Party activist who converted to Islam in a
maximum-security jail is being held in isolation on suspicion of trying to
recruit fellow prisoners to terrorist groups.

Stephen Jones has been confined to a segregation unit in Whitemoor
prison, Cambridgeshire, for three weeks while the intelligence services
investigate his alleged links to al-Qa'ida.

It is thought to be the first time a prisoner has been put in isolation
because of fears he was attempting to radicalise other inmates. The authorities
were also said to be concerned about his safety. Two other Muslim prisoners are
thought to be in the same unit.

Fears have been growing that extremist groups are using prisons as a
fertile recruiting ground. Britain is believed to have more prisoners with
terrorist sympathies than any other European country.

An internal review of security at Whitemoor – where almost a third of the
500 inmates are Muslim – warned that officers were struggling to deal with
Muslim gangs. It concluded that staff feared a "serious incident is
imminent".

Henry Bellingham, the shadow Justice Minister, who has raised
concerns about Whitemoor, said: "What we have got to do is work with the moderate Muslim organisations to try and stamp this out."

Yeah right! And, they should probably work with moderate BNP people to stamp out those radicals too, right?

In the world I grew up in, that is called reporting, not hate speech.

The man who accused Mark Steyn of hate speech is a Canadian Engineering Professor named Mohamed El-Masry.

Yesterday, we reported here at IBA that the United Nations Human Rights Council has determined that only religious scholars ought be allowed to speak on "matters of faith." The Security Council was moved to make this determination because Muslims on the Council were angered over the fact that Female Genital Mutilation and Honor Killings were being called Human Rights Abuses.

So, Muslims have now clearly stated to the whole world (from the podium of the United Nations) that they are not allowed to be criticized, even when their practices are abominable, torturous, and completely against the freedom of the individual.

For this reason, Infidel Bloggers Alliance is in absolute agreement with Robert Spencer; in the instance of preserving our God-given right to Freedom of Speech, it is time to repeal all hate speech laws:


On June 9, a 53-year-old man named Mahmoud Alkhazaleh stood in the middle of a street in Chicago, and refused to get out of the way of traffic. Soon enough a car approached, but when the driver honked at him, Alkhazaleh didn’t move. The driver tried to go around him, but at that point Alkhazaleh allegedly started to hit him and throw rocks at him. And shortly thereafter, three of Alkhazaleh’s sons ran up, started to beat the driver, spit on him, and throw rocks at him.

Alkhazaleh’s sons have been charged with felony aggravated battery. And that is all to the good. But Mahmoud Alkhazaleh himself has been charged with a “hate crime.” A “hate crime”? That charge comes because apparently Alkhazaleh called the driver who tried to get him to move out of the middle of the road a “blue-eyed devil.”

Now, I have no idea why Mahmoud Alkhazaleh wouldn’t get out of the middle of the street. Maybe it really did have to do with some deep hatred of American blue-eyed devils, but I couldn’t care less if it did. The only thing the law should really be concerned about here is that he and his sons apparently gratuitously beat up this driver. He should be prosecuted fully for that, and deported if he is not a citizen. If he called the driver a “blue-eyed devil” and the driver called him a “Pakistani [expletive],” their mothers should remind them that “sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me,” and that should be the end of that.

The hate crime charge is why this story is significant, not because Mahmoud Alkhazaleh is a Muslim. There is no indication that his odd obstinacy and subsequent belligerence have anything whatsoever to do with the global jihad. The key element of this story is the hate crime angle. If people can be prosecuted for insulting words, we are all in trouble. Soon they will begin prosecuting those who commit “Islamophobia,” as the Organization of the Islamic Conference wants Western countries so very much to do. After all, it is no accident that CAIR and co. so consistently and indefatigably label all Islamorealistic discourse as “hate speech”? They want to make it illegal for the kuffar to dare to point out that Muhammad and the Qur’an preach the subjugation of the Infidels under Sharia. Then it will be against the law to discuss the motives and goals of those who would conquer and subjugate us. And one of the last defenses against that conquest will have fallen.

And make no mistake: this is coming fast. The UN’s the United Nations Special Rapporteur on contemporary forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance, Doudou Diène is working on it, and American Muslims are helping him. Diène recently came to the United States, where he held a hearing in Miami on Islamophobia and anti-Muslim discrimination. At the hearing he met with ex-CAIR operative Ahmed Bedier, who indulged in flights of fantasy as he told Diène “how Islamophobia and anti-Muslim rhetoric by officials and pundits are contributing to hate crimes against Muslims across Florida.”

But such wild claims have a purpose. Pakistan just asked the EU to restrict freedom of expression so as to curb “offenses to Islam.” Finland just gave a blogger 2 1/2 years in prison for “insulting Islam.” Mark Steyn is on trial in Canada for essentially the same thing. Yet the worldwide assault on the freedom of speech is completely off the mainstream media radar, and even most large American blogs are consumed with the election and trivia and have paid it little notice.

We could very easily fall into a situation where it becomes a prosecutable offense to discuss the war that is being waged against us the State Department and the Department of Homeland Security are only abetting this by forbidding use of the word “jihad” to describe the motives and goals of those who would destroy us. We are not to use the word, we’re told, because to do so would offend peaceful Muslims.

This is fully in accord with Mark Steyn’s precise observation that “so-called hate speech laws” are “not about facts,” but rather, “they’re about feelings.” Yet facts are really all that should concern us; the rocks Mahmoud Alkhazeh threw at the driver he confronted did not hurt more because they were accompanied by stinging words. Hate speech laws are an assault on truth telling, at precisely the moment when so few dare to tell the truth, and it is for that reason all the more urgently needed.

Prosecute Mahmoud Alkhazaleh, but drop the hate crime charges. And repeal the hate crime laws. Before it’s too late.

We Are Addicted To Jihad Juice

Fitzgerald over at Jihadwatch.org has frequently noted an article by J. B. Kelly printed June of 1979 in the now out-of-print "Encounter" magazine, titled "Of Valuable Oil and Worthless Policies".

Western powers that be, have believed now (for generations) that to secure
favorable oil contracts in the ME, the West would sell themselves out.. . .in
the guise of "recycling", a magical process by which the vast sums paid out for
oil would be recovered both by the sale of equally vast quantitites of
industrial goods and arms and by luring the Arabs into investing their financial
surpluses in the West.

What few paused to consider, or if they did, resignedly rejected as
impracticable, was whether it would not be wiser to press for a reduction of oil
prices. After all, if for any reason the contracts for arms and other Western
manufactures were to be cancelled, the West would still be compelled to pay
excessive prices foroil without being able to offset them by the sale of
Chieftain Tanks and F-16's.

Oil holds the value we permit to assign it. Policies which prevent reasonable value for oil - like restrictions on domestic drilling & refinement, restrictions on alternate energy sources like nuclear, wind or solar - these policies in effect raise the value of crude, as OPEC and speculators see fit.

Taking a lesson from the 1980's and the Silver scandal,

The Game Is Up! Saudi Arabia Invited to Invest in British Nuclear Power Stations

THE TELEGRAPH: Gordon Brown has invited oil-rich states like Saudi Arabia to invest in the next generation of British nuclear power stations.

The Prime Minister extended the invitation to OPEC members as part of a deal he will propose at a summit in Saudi Arabia on Sunday. 



Mr Brown said he wants oil producers to allow Western energy firms to invest in their fields, increasing OPEC's extraction and refining capacity. 



In exchange, he said, Western oil-consumers led by Britain should open their economies to investment from oil-states' sovereign wealth funds. In particular, he said, sovereign funds should be encouraged to invest in alternative energy sources, including nuclear power.

The government has signalled its willingness to license a new wave of nuclear power reactors in Britain, but there are doubts about the energy industry's appetite for funding new stations. What does this phrase mean? "large majority of Americans unhappy with the country's direction"

Should we be headed east?

Put me in the category of being unhappy with the nation's direction, but none of the reasons for that would lead me to conclude anything but that the election of Obama would make me even more unhappy.

For weeks many political experts and pollsters have been wondering why the race between Democrat Barack Obama and Republican John McCain had stayed so tight, even after the Illinois senator wrested the nomination from Hillary Clinton. With numbers consistently showing rock-bottom approval ratings for President Bush and a large majority of Americans unhappy with the country's direction, the opposing-party candidate should, in the normal course, have attracted more disaffected voters. Now it looks as if Obama is doing just that. A new NEWSWEEK Poll shows that he has a substantial double-digit lead, 51 percent to 36 percent, over McCain among registered voters nationwide.

This kind of poll is about the lead I would have expected.
But by the time November rolls around the landscape will have changed a dozen times.
Never the less, if this story doesn't, by its sycophant-ish, sick sweet, referral to Barack demonstrate the fact that the MSM is not just in the tank but PROMOTING Obama, then we only need to consider that only Fox has bothered to report in detail (or at all) the story of multiple party leaders (including a former prez candidate - Dodd) receiving sweetheart loans from Countrywide mortgage, amid phone calls to their CEO looking for preferential treatment, while the mortgage crisis bloomed around them.

Obama Courting Christians

Recently, a fundraiser for Obama's courting of Christians was held in the Washington, D.C., area. Some forty people paid $1000 each to learn about the Matthew 25 Project, a sort of Obama outreach to moderate evangelicals, Catholics, and Hispanics. Information about that project appears in this article in the June 21, 2008 edition of the Washington Post:

With the Democratic presidential nomination in his grasp, Sen. Barack Obama is making a full-throttle push for centrist evangelicals and Catholics.

It's a move that's caught some conservative evangelicals off guard. They say they are surprised and dismayed to see a liberal-minded politician attempting to conscript their troops. At the same time, they say that Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) has done little to court their affections.

"I've never seen anything quite like it before," said evangelical author Stephen Mansfield, who wrote "The Faith of George W. Bush"...

This month, the Illinois senator held a closed-door meeting in Chicago with almost 40 Christian leaders, including evangelical heavyweights such as the Rev. Franklin Graham, publishing magnate Steve Strang and megachurch pastor Bishop T.D. Jakes.

Obama's campaign is also launching a grass-roots effort, tentatively called Joshua Generation, with plans to hold concerts and house meetings targeted at young evangelicals and Catholics.

A political action committee set to launch this month, the Matthew 25 Network, plans to direct radio advertising and mailers to Christian communities while talking up Obama in the media. The group is not officially tied to the Obama campaign.

Obama's emphasis on faith outreach plays to his strengths, campaign observers say. The senator is at ease speaking about religion and preaches a message of forging common ground with disparate communities.

Still, some religious leaders wonder whether Obama's Christian-focused outreach might alienate Jewish and Muslim voters, for example, not to mention the Democratic Party's large secular wing.

Apparently, the Matthew 25 Project focuses on verses Matthew 25: 42-46. According to the above-cited Washington Post article:

The Matthew 25 Project, named after the biblical passage in which Jesus promises eternal life for those who care for the least and the lost, will be led by Mara Vanderslice, a young evangelical who briefly led faith outreach for the 2004 campaign of Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) and later founded a respected political consulting firm.

But there are many other verses in the chapter, including verses about foolish virgins and being prepared for the Second Coming. Is the Matthew 25 Project trying to communicate, subtly or otherwise, the Second-Coming message too?

Christian Jihadi

Because we report on the atrocities committed by Muslims intent on Jihad, we are often criticized as bigoted, racist, etc. This is ridiculous. First off, Islam is a religion and not a race. And second, why would anyone ever do anything but condemn an ideology which calls for Homosexuals, Apostates, and Adulterers to be put to death, and for women to be second-class citizens (virtual slaves).

If we didn't condemn such things, then we would be bigots.

Anyway, because we condemn Islamic Jihadists for the right reason, we also criticize Christians who exhibit Jihadi-type behavior.

As in this case:

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (AP) - A public school teacher preached his Christian
beliefs despite complaints by other teachers and administrators and used a
device to burn the image of a cross on students' arms, according to a report by
independent investigators.

Mount Vernon Middle School teacher John Freshwater also taught
creationism in his science class and was insubordinate in failing to remove a
Bible and other religious materials from his classroom, the report said.

Freshwater's friend Dave Daubenmire defended him.

The man is a maniac. And, he is doing what he is doing in the name of Christ.

Fact is, he has no scriptures to back up the practice of torturing children in this manner. Nor is there a significant body of worshippers who practice branding. Nor, is this kind of branding advocated by major Christian Theologians, academic institutions, media outlets, or government officials.

However, in his mind, he is doing the right thing and he is doing it in the name of Christ.

The United Nations Human Rights Council has a new rule. If a Human Rights matter is impacted, in any way, by religious considerations, the UN must bring in a member of the clergy to take over the debate.

GENEVA: Muslim countries have won a battle to prevent Islam from being
criticised during debates by the UN Human Rights Council. Religions deserve
special protection because any debate about faith is bound to be “very complex,
very sensitive and very intense”, council President Doru-Romulus Costea said
Wednesday.

Scholars: Only religious scholars should be allowed to discuss matters of
faith, he told journalists in Geneva.

While Costea’s ban applies to all religions, it was prompted by Muslim
countries complaining about references to Islam.

On Monday Egypt, Pakistan and Iran angrily protested attempts by a humanist
group to link Islam to human rights abuses such as female genital mutilation and
so-called honour killing of women.

Aren't we commonly told that Female Genital Mutilation and Honor Killing have nothing to do with Islam, but are instead culturally-based phenomena?

I guess not, if Muslims feel they must bring in Imams to explain the intricacies of these Sacraments.

Let's see if the Muslims also declare this to be a religious issue, and bring in their Imams to justify such behavior as well.

Israel Directs Military Exercise At Iran?

Officials Say "Sleeper Cells" Activated in Canada

Intelligence agencies in the United States and Canada are warning of mounting signs that Hezbollah, backed by Iran, is poised to mount a terror attack against "Jewish targets" somewhere outside the Middle East.

Intelligence officials tell ABC News the group has activated suspected "sleeper cells" in Canada and key operatives have been tracked moving outside the group's Lebanon base to Canada, Europe and Africa.

Officials say Hezbollah is seeking revenge for the February assassination of Hezbollah's military commander, Imad Mugniyah, killed by a car bomb in Damascus, Syria.

The group's leaders blamed Israel, an allegation denied by Israeli officials.

There is no credible information on a specific target, according to the officials.

Suspected Hezbollah operatives have conducted recent surveillance on the Israeli embassy in Ottawa, Canada and on several synagogues in Toronto, according to the officials.

Latin American is also considered a possible target by officials following Hezbollah's planning.
A senior US counter-terrorism official told ABC News, "There are concerns Hezbollah might be ready to do something along those lines."

Officials say the CIA, the NSA, and British and Canadian intelligence agencies began to pick up a steady stream of information - from electronic intercepts, human sources and surveillance - about a possible Hezbollah attack on Feb. 17, just days after the Beirut funeral of Mugniyah where Hezbollah leaders publicly declared they would seek revenge.

"They want to kill as many people as they can, they want it to be a big splash," said former CIA intelligence officer Bob Baer, who says he met with Hezbollah leaders in Beirut last month.

"They cannot have an operation fail," said Baer, "and I don't think they will. They're the A-team of terrorism."

Alarms were first raised in Canada, where as many as 20 suspected Hezbollah members have been under surveillance after as many as four suspected "sleeper cells" were activated, including one known as "Rashedan," intelligence officials tell ABC News. The members also received instruction to send their family members home to Lebanon, according to officials.

Intelligence officials said the recent Hezbollah activities were being coordinated with the help of Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards.

"Hezbollah would not carry out an attack in the west, or wherever this attack is going to occur, without approval from Tehran," said Baer, the former CIA intelligence officer.

Baer says his Hezbollah contacts told him an attack against the US was unlikely because Iran and Hezbollah did not want to give the Bush administration an excuse to attack.

While US officials say there is no credible information of a Hezbollah attack on American soil, the Homeland Security Secretary, Michael Chertoff, told Fox News two weeks ago, that "they make al Qaeda look like a minor league team."

Toronto has long been considered an important city for Hezbollah fund-raising and organizing, according to officials.

Pro-Hezbollah rallies and billboards depicting Hezbollah's leader, Hassan Nasrallah, have outraged Jewish groups.

"Because of lax immigration policies, it became a center for Hezbollah operations outside the Middle East," said Malcolm Hoenlein, of the Conference of Presidents of Major Jewish Organizations.

Security officials in Lebanon say supporters of the militant group Hezbollah have attacked a U.S. envoy's motorcade with stones to protest her visit to southern Lebanon.

U.S. State Department spokesman Tom Casey says a Lebanese security guard was slightly wounded in the attack against U.S. envoy Michele Sison Wednesday in Nabatiyeh. Officials and witnesses say at least 100 Hezbollah supporters also surrounded the house of local official Abdullah Bitar as he met with Sison, throwing stones and shouting anti-U.S. slogans.

A Northwest Side man was charged with a hate crime and his three adult sons were charged with felony aggravated battery in an alleged attack on a motorist in which racial epithets were shouted, prosecutors said.

Mahmoud Alkhazaleh, 53, of the 5500 block of North Mango Avenue also was charged with aggravated battery and vehicle invasion in a June 9 attack on a man who allegedly had honked his horn to prod Alkhazaleh to step out of the path of his truck, according to court documents.

Alkhazaleh called the victim a "blue-eyed devil" and an " 'American [expletive]' during a physical attack that included throwing rocks and spitting," according to court documents.

Alkhazaleh and his three sons, Ahmad, Ala and Ali, appeared in Bond Court Wednesday in the Cook County Criminal Courts Building.

The father was held in lieu of $60,000 bail, while Ala, 27, and Ali, 23, were held in lieu of $40,000 bail and Ahmad, 20, was held in lieu of $35,000 bail. The sons were charged with aggravated battery and vehicle invasion, prosecutors said.

The motorist was driving his truck on Mango Avenue on Monday when the elder Alkhazaleh stood in the street blocking the vehicle's path, prosecutors said. The driver honked, but Alkhazaleh did not move. The driver then tried to go around Alkhazaleh but could not pass, and Alkhazaleh allegedly started to strike him and pelt him with rocks, prosecutors said.

As the driver tried to call 911 from his cell phone, Alkhazaleh yelled out for three of his sons to join him in the street, prosecutors said. They ran out of the apartment and started to beat the victim, spit on him and throw rocks, prosecutors said.

The father and three sons had returned to their apartment by the time police arrived. Witnesses directed police to the family's home. When the officers knocked on the apartment door, a woman answered and said the men were not home, but the officers could hear interior doors closing and locking inside the apartment, prosecutors said. They entered and found and arrested the men.

The men are due back in court June 16 for a hearing.

Rock throwing at cars, among other acts of violence. That's what's coming to America if more Muslims are allowed to enter.

By the way, shouldn't the presumed wife also be charged with obstructing the police? If they really didn't arrest her, is that supposed to be "cultural sensitivity"?

Update: in his latest op-ed at Front Page Magazine (via Jihad Watch), Robert Spencer argues that hate crime laws should be repealed, as it could possibly harm free speech for the goodies, and what counts here anyway is that the prime culprit, like his sons, also threw rocks, beat and spit at the victim. There certainly is a point here.

You need not fear that your Muslim male baby-sitter will rape your 7-year-old daughter. If he is a good Muslim he will only sodomize her. Ahmadinejad: Iran Won The Nuclear Standoff

The West fears the process might be used to make an atomic bomb
although Iran insists it only wants to generate nuclear energy for peaceful
purposes.

Ahmadinejad's comments were his first statement on the nuclear crisis
since the offer was presented but it was not clear if they represented a
reaction to the proposal.

The Iranian government spokesman has already said Tehran will reject
any offer demanding it suspends uranium enrichment.

NYT - As President Bush calls for repealing a ban on drilling off most of the coast of the United States, a shortage of ships used for deep-water offshore drilling promises to impede any rapid turnaround in oil exploration and supply.

Demand is so high that shipbuilders, the biggest of whom are in Asia, have raised prices since last year by as much as $100 million a vessel to about half a billion dollars.

"The crunch on rigs is everywhere," said Alberto Guimaraes, a senior executive at Petrobras, the Brazilian oil company that has discovered some of the most promising offshore oil but has been unable to get at it.

"Almost 100 percent of the oil companies are constrained in their investment program because there is no rig available," he said.

As a result, drilling costs for some of the newest deepwater rigs in the Gulf of Mexico -- the nation's top source of domestic oil and natural gas supplies -- have reached about $600,000 a day, compared with $150,000 a day in 2002.

These record prices have spurred a new wave of drill-ship construction. This boom could lead to renewed offshore oil exploration that would eventually bring more supplies to the oil market, and push down prices.

Already, 16 new drill-ships are scheduled to be delivered to oil companies this year -- more than double the number delivered over the last six years combined. In fact, 75 ultra-deepwater rigs should be delivered from 2008 to 2011, according to ODS-Petrodata, a firm that tracks drilling rigs.

Gee, I guess it wasn't such a good idea for the FEDERAL GOVT TO GET INVOLVED IN RESTRICTING THE MARKET BY DENYING SUPPLIES TO SUCH AN EXTENT THAT NO EXPLORATION AND DRILLING SHIPS ARE AVAILABLE.

Apparently the USA doesn't even HAVE a shipyard which can or is building these ships.

With the exception of denying monopolies and cartels (one of the reasons oil is the way it is) is there any involvement in the marketplace the federal govt can have which does not hurt us all?

Shipyards from South Korea to Norway are working overtime to meet a huge influx of orders.

Robert L. Long, the chief executive office of Transocean, the world's largest drilling company, said he has nine deepwater rigs under construction, eight of which are already under contract for periods ranging from four to seven years once they leave the shipyards. He expects to receive the ships between the beginning of 2009 and the end of 2010.

Transocean believes the deepwater market will continue to be constrained until at least 2012. Over three-quarters of the drill-ships currently under construction have already been contracted to oil companies eager to benefit from triple-digit oil prices, Mr. Long said

Brazil stunned the oil world when it announced the discovery of a vast oil field 200 miles south of Rio de Janeiro last November, turning the country's deep blue waters into the world's most exciting oil frontier. Energy experts said the field could turn out to be just a small part of the largest oil discovery in 30 years.

But seven months later, the problem is still how to retrieve it. Petrobras has only three rigs capable of drilling in waters that exceed 6,500 feet, like the sites of the new fields.

House Democrats call for nationalization of refineries

House Democrats responded to President's Bush's call for Congress to lift the moratorium on offshore drilling. This was at an on-camera press conference fed back live.

Among other things, the Democrats called for the government to own refineries so it could better control the flow of the oil supply.

They also reasserted that the reason the Appropriations Committee markup (where the vote on the amendment to lift the ban) was cancelled so they could focus on preparing the supplemental Iraq spending bill for tomorrow.

At an off-camera briefing, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) said the same. And a senior Republican House Appropriations Committee aide adds that "there were multiple reasons for the postponement" including discussion on the supplemental. But the aide said there was the thought that Democrats may wish to avoid a debate today on energy amendments.

ABC Fact-Checker: Did Obama's Brother Say He Has a Muslim Background? No

We here at IBA, like a lot of other anti-Jihad blogs, reported the other day that Malik Obama said his brother Barack had a Muslim background. Apparently, that is not quite what Malik said. But, it sure is awfully close.

ABC News got a hold of the audio of Malik's interview with Israel Army
Radio, and Malik said nothing of the kind.

You can't hear the questions -- only Malik's answers (listen HERE)
-- but whatever the interviewer asked about Obama's father's Muslim heritage, or
the Muslim minority in Kenya, Malik said, “I don’t think that’s in any way going
to be something to worry about. I myself am not speaking for him. But we are
here, we love people in general. People love us. I myself love people who love
me. You know, so, and I think it’s mutual. I can’t go in terms of Israel and
Kenya and America, and so forth, you know, but based on what else I’ve heard him say and what I know of him as an individual, I don’t think Israel should worry
too much, you know, about the connection. Because, I am a Muslim myself, and I
don’t think that my being a Muslim has got anything to do with my brother being
the President of the United States.”

It may be that the Israeli Army Radio interviewer asked about Obama
having a "Muslim background." But even if the interviewer did, Malik did not say
that or come close to saying that.

It could be that the interviewer used the
phrase, and Malik interpreted that in a way that squares with the Obama
campaign's story -- that Obama's father was a largely secular man born
Muslim. We don't know.

But nowhere in there does Malik expressly say anything about Obama
having a Muslim background.

And nowhere does he "confirm" anything about Obama having a Muslim
background.

Malik refers to Obama having a "connection" to something, perhaps
Islam, which could clearly be a reference to Obama's father.

This interpretation spreading throughout the blogosphere and cable
news is just not supported by the facts. The paraphrase was sloppy, for such a
sensitive subject, and Malik's quotes don't even come close to supporting any
assertion that Obama himself has a Muslim background.

Adviser denies Obama showed naivete on Jerusalem

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Democrat Barack Obama misused a "code word" in Middle East politics when he said Jerusalem should be Israel's "undivided" capital but that does not mean he is naive on foreign policy, a top adviser said on Tuesday.

Addressing a pro-Israel lobby group this month, the Democratic White House hopeful said: "Jerusalem will remain the capital of Israel, and it must remain undivided."

The comment angered Palestinians, who want East Jerusalem, captured by Israel in 1967, as the capital of a future state. "He has closed all doors to peace," Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas said after the June 4 speech.

Obama later said Palestinians and Israelis had to negotiate the status of the city, in line with long-held U.S. presidential policy.

Daniel Kurtzer, who advises Obama on the Middle East, said Tuesday at the Israel Policy Forum that Obama's comment stemmed from "a picture in his mind of Jerusalem before 1967 with barbed wires and minefields and demilitarized zones."

Pakistan - "if the US targets our territory it must surely fall into the category of "enemy" and be given a military response

Hey man....AND THE FREAKIN' HORSE YOU RODE IN ON.
The absolutely blind attitude of this pakistani military analyst and what lies behind it, is THE reason the US is now a hated nation, and the people of the USA, held in both contempt and in ridicule.

They expect us, like the jews, to DIE rather than kill those who are sworn to kill us. When we are too civilized to live in this world they are more satisfied.

What many of us had feared and written about at the time seems to have come true -- be it the growing US intrusions into our territory or the periodic diatribes from the US against Dr A.Q. Khan whenever they feel Pakistan needs to be put under pressure. However, nothing reflects our state's sovereign bankruptcy as much as the audacious threats issued by Afghanistan's Karzai of sending in his Afghan Army into Pakistan to take out "militants" and "terrorists." Here is a man who barely has power in his own capital, Kabul, and has hundreds of occupation forces from the US and NATO -- not to mention some Arab contingents from the Gulf states -- and he is actually threatening Pakistan, a country with a massive conventional military, and nuclear capability to boot.

Herein lies the irony of Pakistan's predicament post-9/11. Our military seems to have no stomach for fighting the violations of our sovereignty by the US and its allies. That has emboldened the US and they now feel they can target the Pakistani security forces directly -- as they did in March 2008 in Bajaur, and more recently last week in the Mohmand Agency which left 11 FC men dead, apart from the civilians that are a constant target of US and NATO forces -- especially as their frustration has grown over their lack of success in Afghanistan.

Well perhaps if the ISI was not directly responsible for the funding and support of Bin Laden and Hekmatyar, and Pakistan was not one of only TWO NATIONS to recognize the Taliban, who they supported INSIDE Pakistan from day one - 9/11 would not have happened.
But since 3000 americans are DEAD as a direct consequence of the deliberate actions, and deliberate INACTIONS of successive Pakistani governments, then their people, who riot at our deaths, and make Bin Laden a popular king, who believe the jews did 9/11, find themselves in jeopardy because to them the American people ARE the enemy. Perhaps that jeopardy is justified. Perhaps we are as the man indicates, enemies in a peoples war.

Perhaps then, we ought to act in such a manner as well, Mr. Mazari.
And I assure you, 1 Hellfire from a Reaper is NOT how we behave as an enemy.

Increasingly, the hostile intent of the US towards Pakistan is becoming more overt as the Americans become more emboldened in the face of the vacillating and whimpering Pakistani ruling elite.

It is time we re-examined whether the US is really an "ally" or a dangerous enemy.
