Bringin' It All Back Home

Bob Dylan's song to his people:

You were telling them about Buddha,
You were telling them about Mohammed in one breath,
You never mentioned once, the man who came
And died a criminal's death ...

Yeshua ben Josiah/Jehozadak Moshiach was the most radical Jew in history and the Goyim stole him from the Jews, and turned him into a Gentile martyr (with a "swimmer's body", as Howard Stern says).

We Gentiles need your help, my friends. We don't understand the very words we read. The reason? Because we do not understand the Torah and the Mishnah as you do.

As Yeshua said, when the Pharisees challenged him to explain the Law of God,

" 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."

Apparently, these words were the words of another Jewish sage named Hillel.

We Gentiles do not know who Hillel is.

We believe Yeshua (Jesus Christ) made this shit up out of whole cloth. We don't get it.

We don't understand why Yeshua asked Peter three times, "Peter, do you love me?" We don't get it.

We don't understand why the Kings and Priests must be separated, which is a Jewish idea (which led to America's separation of Church and State). We don't get it.

We are deceived. We think he is ours. He is yours.

Help us. Explain him to us. Please.

Neither do I, but I can tell you this:

"'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.'"

That is the oldest written prayer in judaism, and was found on a scroll in jerusalem dating to the time before the assyrian conquest, perhaps 650-700 BC

It is said every day. It is, for those who pray, said each morning and night, and every friday evening and saturday morning.

I had NO IDEA it was in Mark, but really, as a rabbi, it's not shocking Jesus said it, is it?

Epa,
Yes, and you know what? Christians do not know it's the oldest written prayer in Judaism.

You see what I mean?

We do not understand.

And, we need Jews to help us understand our "religion".

Otherwise, frankly, we are lost, and that explains the history of Christian anti-Semitism.

The Romans stole Christianity from the Jews for political reasons. They wanted to control the Jews.

Until then, following the Rabbi Yeshua was a Jewish thing, which also included Gentiles.

It was stolen for political purposes, and those political purposes have resulted in the deaths of millions of Jews.

We need help.

You know the golden rule: "Do to others as you would have them do to you!"? That was also first stated by Hillel but in the negative: "Do not do to others as you would not have them do to you." That now is known as the "Silver rule".

Jesus' practice of breaking the bread and giving thanks was a Rabbinic practice, in other words, one of the 'traditions of the elders'. There are many more things like that. Just like you said, We don't understand.

That's why I recently bought a Hebrew Torah (with English translation). It contains commentary by Jewish sages from different times in history including the renowned Rashi. It helps to understand Jesus (or Yeshua) more accurately. I also have Mishna. It really does help to know Judaism to know Christ better.

Without Judaism, we're just like orphans who don't know where they came from, they just know they exist!

Oh forgot to mention that even the practice of saying, "the greatest commandment" or the "first commandment...second commandment" is also a rabbinic practice. The Torah does not specify which commandment is the most important of the greatest. You can see that classification more clearly in the Talmud and the debate between Hillel and Shammai!

Jesus seems to have been leaning more toward Hillel's opinions than Shammai's.

You're the man, Avenging Apostate.

Thanks for sharing that.

I am a Judeophile, but honestly, I don't really know that much. I only know what my Jewish friends (who believe in Yeshua) have told me.

Hillell was a very old man but he was alive when Jesus was a man - I think jesus may have even studied with him

The prayer is from Deuteronomy 6:5 (at least where I first remember it) and is part of the Mezuzah (Deut 6:4-9 and 11:13-21) Jews affix to their doors in the little box.

(yeah, I'm real late to this thread, I know).

I have a Mezuzah on my door.

I also have a beautiful painting of The Angel of Death passing over the houses with Lamb's Blood, hanging right next to my front door.

I would have been surprised if you didn't.

Pastorius said...

Really? That's funny. How many Christians have such things.

Not many. But knowing you as I do, and your sensibilities, it doesn't surprise me at all that you have one.
