Global Warming And Confirmation Bias

From the Belmont Club:

None of the scientists who have “come out” as climate skeptics allege a massive conspiracy by scientists, any more than there is a massive liberal conspiracy in Hollywood. What you have is a self-emergent, self-organizing bias. I hope I can illustrate it briefly.

I work in academic science (check my IP address if you wish). Scientists are, in general, uncompromising idealists for objective, physical truth. But occasionally, politics encroaches. Most of my work is funded by DoE, DoD, ONR, and a few big companies. We get the grants, because we are simply the best in the field. But we don’t work in isolation. We work as part of a department, which has equipment, lab space, and maintenance staff, IT, et cetera. We have a system for the strict partition of unclassified/classified research through collaboration with government labs. The department had set a research policy and infrastructure goal to attract defense funding, and it worked.

The same is true in climate science. Universities and departments have set policies to attract climate science funding. Climate science centers don’t spontaneously spring into existence – they were created, in increasingly rapid numbers, to partake in the funding bonanza that is AGW. This by itself is not political – currently, universities are scrambling to set up “clean energy” and “sustainable technology” centers. Before it was bio-tech and nanotechnology. But because AGW-funding is politically motivated, departments have adroitly set their research goals to match the political goals of their funding sources. Just look at the mission statements of these climate research institutes – they don’t seek to investigate the scientific validity or soundness of AGW-theory, they assume that it is true, and seek to research the implications or consequences of it.

This filters through every level. Having created such a department, they must fill it with faculty that will carry out their mission statement. The department will hire professors who already believe in AGW and conduct research based on that premise. Those professors will hire students that will conduct their research without much fuss about AGW. And honestly, if you know anything about my generation, we will do or say whatever it is we think we’re supposed to do or say. There is no conspiracy, just a slightly cozy, unthinking myopia. Don’t rock the boat.

The former editor of the New Scientist, Nigel Calder, said it best – if you want funding to study the feeding habits of squirrels, you won’t get it. If you wants to study the effects of climate change on the feeding habits of squirrels, you will. And so in these subtle ways, there is a gravitational pull towards the AGW monolith.

I think it the most damning evidence for this soft tyranny is in the work of climate scientists whose scientific integrity has led them to publish results that clearly contradict basic assumptions in AGW modeling. Yet, in their papers, they are very careful to skirt around the issue, keeping their heads down, describing their results in a way obfuscates the contradiction. They will describe their results as an individual case, with no greater implications, and issue reassuring boilerplate statements about how AGW is true anyways.

For the field as a whole, it’s not a conspiracy. It’s the unfortunate consequence of having a field totally dominated by politically-motivated, strings-attached money. In the case of the CRU email group, well, the emails speak for themselves. Call it whatever you want.

Geert Wilders: Loved by the People, Hated by the Parliamentarians

From Atlas Shrugs:

This is so gorgeous you can't help but smile, like the Mona Lisa. It says it all. It also points to a collision course for the moochers, looters and destroyers, aka the 'political elite' and the enslavers. It won't be pretty.

Loved by the individual, hated by the statists. He must be doing something right.

Wilders, Loved and Loathed Radio Netherlands

Dutch anti-Islam politician Geert Wilders has come in second in two polls for politician of the year. A panel of Dutch television viewers said he is the second best politician this year, while Mr Wilders' colleagues in parliament named him the second worst.

Quite a discrepancy. But, actually, not so surprising. It is yet more evidence of the gap between the public and the elite.

Next prime minister

Geert Wilders has made the disillusionment of many Dutch voters his reason for being. He is always ready to fight the establishment in the name of the little guy.

Part of the success of his Freedom Party movement comes from his style of speaking directly to the public. The simple, sometimes crude, language he uses on the floor of parliament has brought reprimands from his colleagues, and praise from his followers.

And it's his followers that have put Mr Wilders and his Freedom Party in a very strong position: second in European elections last spring, the largest party in the country for the last six months, according to one national opinion pollster. Mr Wilders himself openly speculates about becoming the next prime minister.

They write that as if the public does not openly WANT Wilders to be the next Prime Minister.

15% of Democrats prefer Palin over Obama

From Don Suber:

The liberal Public Policy Polling surveyed 1,253 registered voters Dec. 4-7 and asked a bunch of political questions. It is releasing the results in batches.

Today’s release looked at the possible 2012 presidential match-ups.

It is way too early for that, but pollsters are the political paparazzi. We all hate them but look at their snapshots anyway.

President Obama topped Mike Huckabee 46-45, Mitt Romney 47-42, Sarah Palin 50-44 and Tim Pawlenty 48-35.

Among Democrats, 15% preferred Palin over Obama. To be fair, 12% of Republicans preferred Obama over Palin.

Huckabee did as well as Palin among Democrats, but with Huckabee’s clemency to Maurice Clemmons, who later murdered 4 police officers, he no longer seems to be a viable presidential candidate.

The poll also showed that 4% of the people who voted for Obama in 2008 said they will vote for Palin in 2012.

The survey results are here.

The Gazette has posted my Saturday column a little early. I won’t complain. Guess what it is on

From Reliapundit the Astute Blogger:

Bruce Hoffman, who studies terrorism at Georgetown University, said the recent cases only confirmed that it was “myopic” to believe “we could insulate ourselves from the currents affecting young Muslims everywhere else.”

Like many other specialists, Mr. Hoffman pointed to the United States’ combat in Muslim lands as the only obvious spur to many of the recent cases, especially those with a Pakistani connection.

“The longer we’ve been in Iraq and Afghanistan,” he said, “the more some susceptible young men are coming to believe that it’s their duty to take up arms to defend their fellow Muslims.”

Obama Will Live to Regret Sending Gitmo Detainees to Illinois

by Debra Burlingame
Who would have believed after 9/11 that our own president, the commander-in-chief who recently announced that he was sending another 30,000 troops to risk their lives in Aghanistan, would order that the enemy combatants captured on the battlefield must be brought into the United States. We will live to regret this.
Barack Obama continues to cast the closing of Guantanamo and the importation of Al Qaeda terrorists into the American heartland as a moral victory. But this is nothing more than moral vanity and rank political theater aimed at satisfying his liberal soulmates at the ACLU and Human Rights First. In truth, the security nightmare he is about to visit on this country will only be surpassed by the legal morass which will accompany the transfer of foreign terrorists to American soil. The moment the detainees arrive, their lawyers will drop an avalanche of legal challenges on the federal courts seeking to set them free, destroy what is left of the military commissions, and turn the 9/11 trial into a tragic farce. Americans should remember this: it didn’t have to happen. The Supreme Court said that Gitmo was lawful and that preventative detentions were Constitutional. Barack Obama–and members of Congress who stood by and did nothing to stop him–will own this national security disaster, but our troops and innocent citizens will be the ones who are forced to pay for it.

The Devolution Of Charles Johnson

From Wizbang:

A couple of weeks ago, I had a bit of my say about the devolution of Charles Johnson and Little Green Footballs. In the course of that article, I cited a few quotes from the LGF Dictionary which seemed decidedly at odds with the current direction of the site.

Well, Charles apparently agreed with me, because the vaunted LGF Dictionary is no more.

It still lives on in Google's cache, for now and I was foresighted enough (for once) to save a LGF Dictionary.pdf copy on my laptop.

I'd be curious to hear Charles' reasoning for deleting the dictionary...

From LGF Banned And Blocked:

LGF banned blocked AND OBLITERATED - Volume 1

The happenin's with Little Green Footballs since "Banned and Blocked" closed down have been dizzying! As I noted, many, many others have taken up the close scrutiny of the psychological and sociological case of Charles Johnson and his blog.

This update regards a very interesting new development in the Little Green Footballs story - Charles Johnson has started seriously trying to change history by obliterating past comments going back all the way to registration in 2004 and, in some cases, beyond.

I'm not including the one-off flouncers and discovered sock-puppets with a dozen or so posts who get their entire LGF life's work flicked away. I'm only including the "heavy hitters" in this series of posts.

This is a report on the known members of the banned, blocked, AND OBLITERATED crowd:

1. SAVAGE NATION. I believe that this thorn in Charles' side was the first to be completely nuked. A full report on the circumstances can be found here. Since his obliteration, savage_nation has gone on to bigger things - his identity was outrageously outed by Charles, he is a regular poster at Rayra's Grouchy Conservative Pundits site, and, of course, he is a key member of the LGF 2.0 blogmocracy gang and their alternately hilarious and terrifying site.

2. SONG AND DANCE MAN. Case study #4, song_and_dance_man (SADM) followed his original banning with the unpardonable sin, in October 2008, of posting on Robert Spencer's Jihad Watch website. Or so says Charles (I have no interest in wading into that cesspool to verify). Charles, or one of his toadies, then apparently rifled through SADM's over 30,000 posts (now THAT's a job for the internship from hell!) and found a couple that sounded racist. So Charles obliterated SADM's "contributions" to his illustrious website. Of all of the victims of obliteration, SADM probably deserved it least - although Charles would never admit error, he undoubtedly realized that if SADM could be obliterated, then about 75% of his total posts would have to go. But, like Josef Stalin's red purges of the 1930's, the obliteration of the innocuous SADM undoubtedly sent shivers through lizardoid toady hearts.

There's more. Click the link above to read the whole thing.

My comments: I went looking for my comments history at LGF a couple months ago.

I could not find any comments to my name.

One has to wonder if he's also doing the same thing to the old posts.

I believe at least some of the reason for Charles' change is fear.

Why else would he erase history?

I have no idea what he might be afraid of, though
it could have something to do with this.

Maybe not.

Whatever. It is his right to do what he wants to do with his own site.

Hilary "Going Rogue" - Tells Latin America: 'think twice' about Iran ties

From AFP:

WASHINGTON (AFP) – US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton warned Latin American countries Friday to "think twice" about fostering ties with Iran because of its alleged support for terrorism.

"I think if people want to flirt with Iran, they should take a look at what the consequences might well be for them. And we hope that they will think twice and we will support them if they do," the chief US diplomat said.

During a question-and-answer session at the State Department's public policy forum on Latin America, Clinton said it was a "very bad idea for the countries involved" to allow Iran to establish itself in the region.

In a sign of Iran's push for closer ties with the mostly leftist governments thriving at the doorstep of the United States, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad visited Venezuela, Bolivia and Brazil last month.

"We hope that there will be a recognition that this is the major supporter, promoter and exporter of terrorism in the world today," Clinton said.

Back in October, Hilary similarly went off Obama talking points.

'The Beach In Tel Aviv Is Filled With Tan, Curvy, All-natural Exotic Women'

From Jammie Wearing Fool:

Hey, if they look anything like this babe, I may soon be booking a vacation in Tel Aviv.Sure, everyone knows that Brazilian supermodels dominate the swimsuit model industry, but Israeli model Donna Feldman thinks her native country is ready to give the South American hotspot a run for its money.

"Every time I visit my family in Israel I am blown away by how beautiful the women are. The beach in Tel Aviv is filled with tan, curvy, all-natural exotic women," Feldman quipped. "Instead of a single man vacationing on the beach in Brazil, Israel is definitely another option to consider."
But as the saying goes, you can’t please everyone - and while Feldman was totally flattered to be featured alongside Bar Refaeli in the Brett Ratner-directed "Ladies of ‘69" calendar for Heeb Magazine, to mark the year 5769

Hmmm . . . Yet Another Dry Run?: United 227 Sounds Just Like AirTran 297

RRA comments:

Why "dry runs" on the ground prior to takeoff, involving behavior pretty much guaranteed to get them thrown off the plane or at least frisked and delayed because it violates basic rules regarding takeoff?

James Woods witnessed a very subtle "dry run" by several of the hijackers about a month prior to 9/11. Annie Jacobsen witnessed what looked like either a dry run or actual attempt at mixing a bomb in flight. Woods' information was not acted upon, and Jacobsen got about the same treatment as the AirTran passengers.

Now we have two incidents of disruptive behavior prior to takeoff occurring within about a month of each other. So far neither provocation has resulted in a lawsuit. Why bother engaging in this behavior while still on the runway? Are these men testing the limits, trying to flush out the air marshals, just being arrogant Islamic jerks, or what?

From Debbie Schlussel

For those doubters who mocked me and chose to believe a lying AirTran over passenger Tedd J. Petruna regarding what happened on AirTran Flight 297 on November 17th, you might wanna start mocking the passengers of Wednesday’s United 227, too. Oh, and maybe you might wanna start calling former NFL coach Mike Shanahan a nut, too. He was on the flight.

It’s yet another flight grounded because Middle Eastern men tried to create havoc, test the system, and likely do a dry run. It’s almost an identical scenario with flight attendants scared out of their minds, etc.

But, hey, nothing to see here, move along. You know the drill: we’re just “bigots”. Uh-huh. So what happened on this flight? Why was a bomb-sniffing K9 brought in? And why were several “Middle-Eastern” men escorted off? Huh?

It’s not entirely clear why some passengers were removed from a plane at Denver International Airport on Wednesday. United Airlines issued a statement suggesting that the passengers were “re-accommodated” onto another flight.

A spokesperson for the Denver Police Department confirms to 9NEWS that Denver Police officers were called to DIA on Wednesday, but declined to elaborate any further.

Flight 227 left DIA bound for Los Angeles nearly three hours late. It was scheduled to depart at 1:50 p.m., but ended up leaving at 4:32 p.m.

“Our crew followed recognized, industry standard procedures and re-accommodated some passengers on another flight. We are investigating this matter,” read a Thursday morning statement from United. A United spokesperson declined to elaborate any further as well.

The United crew apparently noticed certain patterns they are trained to spot. Sources tell NBC News airline employees are trained to look for certain behaviors such as how a ticket is paid for, how often passengers get up to use the restroom, and even who their traveling companions are.

A spokesperson for the FBI, Kathy Wright, confirmed to 9NEWS that federal investigators were originally called to the scene after receiving a call on a “possible suspicious incident.” Wright said eventually “we determined that it was not an FBI matter.”

Passengers say a bomb-sniffing dog was brought onto the plane and passengers in the first-class cabin we’re asked to go back to coach for a brief amount of time according to passengers on the plane.

John Sloan of Oxnard, California, was on board the flight on Wednesday.

“I have never seen flight attendants so scared in my life. Everything turned out OK, but it was not a very good feeling. It would have been nice to have been updated though this process,” he told 9NEWS by phone.

Sloan says seven men were escorted off of the plane. Two of them were sitting in coach. The other five were sitting in first-class, he says. All were re-booked onto another flight according to United.

Sloan says the men were attempting to change seats with other passengers. Another passenger, who doesn’t want his name used, says the men were also trying to move luggage while the plane was getting ready to push back.

Passengers tell 9NEWS all of the men looked to be “Middle Eastern,” but United will not confirm the identity of the seven men.

Nothing criminal was found, and the flight was allowed to continue on to California.

Passengers also tell 9NEWS that former head coach of the Denver Broncos, Mike Shanahan, was seated in first class while this was all going on. Shanahan could not be reached for comment, and a spokesperson for the former coach simply told 9NEWS that he was “out of town.”

But, hey, I and the passengers and the flight attendants and the K9 are all just nuts, right? There’s nothing to fear here. Tell me that the next time you’re on a flight with several Middle Eastern men who are escorted off with a bomb-sniffing animal brought in.

If there was nothing going on here, United wouldn’t still be “investigating.” So, how long until United starts attacking its passengers the way AirTran did? Perhaps United–which had two planes hijacked on 9/11–gets it.

Climate Scientology, Islam, and Religious Fanaticism

Fanatics at the reins of power.

This essay by Andrew Bostom is a warning. Read Dr. William Happer's thoughts on the true goal of the Anthropogenic Global Warming scientists. And then, read Eric Hoffer's comments on fanatical orthodoxy and it's development in cultures, specifically in the culture of Islam.

This tells us everything to know on why we need to make sure the AGW people never gain a foothold on power. The Copenhagen Summit must not yield results, or we are all in deep trouble.

From Andrew Bostom:

William Happer on contemporary Climate Scientologists: “Disagreeing with them is like going to Saudi Arabia and criticizing Muhammad.”

Eric Hoffer: “[A]bsolute faith corrupts as absolutely as absolute power.”

The so-called “Climate Gate” e-mail scandal simply confirms fraudulent activity masquerading as (albeit stubbornly contested) pseudo-scientific “modeling errors” which I reviewed last Christmas (12/25/08)—a bitterly cold day.

Today (12/10/09) Paul Mulshine blogging at at the Star Ledger/NJ.com, includes these revealing extracts from an interview with Princeton University Physics Professor, and Director of Research at the U.S. Department of Energy from 1990-1993, William Happer. Dr. Happer’s conclusion is that a religious cult of Climate Scientologists at the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has evolved, whose fanaticism he characterizes thusly:

“Disagreeing with them is like going to Saudi Arabia and criticizing Muhammad.”

And Happer’s apposite comparison recalls the late Eric Hoffer’s (d. 1983) observations on Islam from his seminal study of fanatical mass movements, The True Believer. Below is the full context of Dr. Happer’s remarks from the Mulshine interview, followed by Hoffer’s insights regarding Islamic fanaticism (from The True Believer), and his related thoughts from other writings.

From the Mulshine interview, of Princeton Professor William Happer:

…Happer is a professor of physics at Princeton who has spent a lifetime studying the interactions of radiation with gases, a primary force behind the greenhouse effect. I gave him a call the other day to ask his reaction to the those e-mails originating from the University of East Anglia in England.

“This has done a lot of damage to the reputation of science and the climate-science business in particular,” Hopper said. “I hope it is not transferred to all areas of science.”

The e-mails revealed what amounted to a political campaign to promote the notion of anthropogenic global warming. This didn’t surprise Happer. He served as the director of energy research at the U.S. Department of Energy from 1990 to 1993. In that capacity, he supervised all of DOE’s work on climate change.

Happer said he quickly realized the climate scientists were different from typical scientists. “They were a strange group of people, very politicized,” he said. “They would look at you and you could see them thinking, ‘What sort of answer does he want?’”

The answer the climate scientists of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change ended up giving has been immortalized in that notorious “hockey stick” graph. In testimony to Congress earlier this year, Happer described his initial reaction to that graph. “I could hardly believe my eyes,” he testified. “Both the Little Ice Age and the Medieval Warm Period were gone, and the newly revised temperature of the world since the year 1000 had suddenly become absolutely flat until the last hundred years, when it shot up like the blade on a hockey stick.”

We all learned about the Medieval Warm Period in grammar school, Happer noted. That was a warming period during which Greenland was literally green, and the Vikings colonized and farmed it. As for the Little Ice Age, that describes a period around the turn of the 19th century when the Thames River in London regularly froze over in winter.

Whatever caused those huge fluctuations, it wasn’t carbon dioxide, he said. Solar activity and changing ocean currents provide much more persuasive explanations.

So why the emphasis on CO2? Simple. “If you want to get rid of CO2, you want to get rid of people,” he said. We humans are CO2 machines. Every breath you exhale has more than 100 times the carbon dioxide of the air you inhaled. And almost everything you do generates CO2 in one way or another.

In Happer’s opinion, the carbon-control movement is really a population-control movement. He traces it back through the “Population Bomb” movement of the late 1960s all the way to the 18th-century writings of Thomas Malthus.

Other scientists have said the same, but Happer says it the loudest. He terms the IPCC crowd a “religious cult” and says, “Disagreeing with them is like going to Saudi Arabia and criticizing Muhammad.” As for the media, we’ve been guilty of putting our faith in the carbon cult as well, he said. “In spite of what you read in the papers, there has been no warming for 10 years,” said Happer.

Eric Hoffer, from The True Believer (pp. 107-108) on Islamic fanaticism, and its coercive imposition:

There is evidence that the coerced convert is often as fanatical in his adherence to the new faith as the persuaded convert, and sometimes even more so. It is not always true that

‘He who complies against his will is of his own opinion still.’ [Note: Or as per Koran 2:256, ‘There is no compulsion religion’—best understood as a statement of disappointed resignation, not an affirmation of “Islamic tolerance,”—an idea which the great Koranic scholar Rudy Paret left for us to learn] Islam imposed its faith by force, yet the coerced Muslims displayed a devotion to the new faith more ardent than that of the first Arabs engaged in the movement…Islam obtained from its coerced converts ‘a faith ever tending to grow stronger.’

Fanatical orthodoxy is in all movements a late development. It comes when the movement is in full possession of power and can impose its faith by force as well as by persuasion.

Subsequently Hoffer would note (from, “Thoughts of Eric Hoffer, Including: ‘Absolute Faith Corrupts Absolutely,’” The New York Times Magazine, April 25, 1971, p. 24.),

There are similarities between absolute power and absolute faith: a demand for absolute obedience, a readiness to attempt the impossible, a bias for simple solutions—to cut the knot rather than unravel it, the viewing of compromise as surrender. Both absolute power and absolute faith are instruments of dehumanization. Hence, absolute faith corrupts as absolutely as absolute power.

And in The Temper of Our Time (p. 124), Hoffer provided this assessment regarding the noble, but sober aspirations of decent, ordinary citizens of free societies, which are antithetical to the utopian yearnings of both Climate Scientology adherents, and fanatical votaries of Islam:

“Free men are aware of the imperfection inherent in human affairs, and they are willing to fight and die for that which is not perfect. They know that basic human problems can have no final solutions, that our freedom, justice, equality, etc. are far from absolute, and that the good life is compounded of half measures, compromises, lesser evils, and gropings toward the perfect. The rejection of approximations and the insistence on absolutes are the manifestation of a nihilism that loathes freedom, tolerance, and equity.”

As if on cue, an Environmentalist confirm exactly what William Happer says above:

The "inconvenient truth" overhanging the UN's Copenhagen conference is not that the climate is warming or cooling, but that humans are overpopulating the world.

A planetary law, such as China's one-child policy, is the only way to reverse the disastrous global birthrate currently, which is one million births every four days.

Angelina Jolie calls out Obama on SudaN

From Don Surber in the Daily Mail:

I have always maintained that celebrities have the same right to express themselves that I do. Few of them rise above rote liberalism and the trite slogans that go with it. Angelina Jolie does rise above that.

The rumor is her husband is a big fan of President Obama and she is not. Us Weekly pushes that rumor.

I don’t care.

I did like her op-ed in Newsweek, particularly this passage: “There will be pressure on the United States and its partners to bring stability to Sudan, even at the expense of criminal accountability. Regardless of the rationale, the end would be the same: victims left without justice while perpetrators walk away. Even if justice is delayed, it must never be denied. The Declaration of Human Rights did not promise freedom or justice or peace.”

And there was this: “I believe President Obama and his special envoy Scott Gration will do their best to bring peace to the region. Their policy, though, raises a number of questions. How is the Obama administration’s approach to Sudan an evolution of justice? In addition, when the administration says it intends to work to ‘improve the lives of the people of Darfur,’ I would like to know what that means, besides the obvious point that their lives could hardly get worse.”

This is neither a personal dig or an ideological one. She is asking a legitimate question as someone truly committed to the area.

“On this Human Rights Day — the same day President Obama receives his Nobel Peace Prize — we must also remember those who have been deprived of their rights. Holding perpetrators of mass atrocities accountable is the best way to ensure justice today and peace in the future. Sudan is the place to start,” she wrote.

I agree.

That surprises me.

Better Than Obama

There are few bigger supporters of our troops and the war effort than Toby Keith.

So when he defended the American War Effort before his Nobel Concert he meant it, and was not just paying lip service like another well American there recently.

Toby Keith Stands by War Before Nobel Show
Friday, December 11, 2009 12:36 PM

OSLO -- There's no reason to apologize for supporting U.S. war efforts, American country singer Toby Keith said Friday, just hours before performing at the annual Nobel Peace Prize concert.

Keith, whose 2002 saber-rattling hit "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry American)" was inspired by the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, said he stands by President Barack Obama's decision to send 30,000 troops to Afghanistan.

Keith's appearance at the downtown Oslo Spektrum arena, scheduled for 1900 GMT (2 p.m. EST), has been questioned by Norwegians dismayed that a performer known for a fervent pro-war anthem is playing at a show focused on peace.

The musician dismissed the criticism.

"If President Obama has to send (more) troops into Afghanistan to fight evil, I'll pull for our guys to win, and I won't apologize for it," Keith said. "I'm an American, and I do pull for our team to fight evil."

His comments come the day after Obama traveled to Oslo to collect his Nobel Peace Prize and defended his decision to increase troop levels in Afghanistan. "Make no mistake: Evil does exist in the world," Obama said in Thursday's speech.

The peace prize laureate normally attends the concert, which is held in his or her honor. Obama's seat, however, will remain empty. The president left the Norwegian capital early Friday morning, blaming a jammed schedule for cutting the usual three-day stay to just over 24 hours.

Norwegian parliamentarians and a former Norwegian Nobel Committee member criticized Keith's invitation.

"If Keith really means what he says in his lyrics, then this doesn't seem like a particularly good decision," Norwegian Labor MP Tove Karoline Knutsen told Norwegian daily VG in November.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee's permanent secretary, Geir Lundestad, has defended his appearance. "We need to include a wide variety of artists," he told broadcaster NRK shortly after the line-up was announced. "So, it's not like we can exclude conservative artists."

Keith said that "if someone wants to say that one song out of 30 million albums sold and 27 No. 1's is inappropriate, then you can jump up and down about the one song," apparently in reference to "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue."

Keith added that this was the second year in a row the Norwegian Nobel Committee had invited him to perform at the concert.

Keith spoke to journalists Friday alongside Nobel Concert hosts _ movie star and rapper Will Smith and his wife, actress Jada Pinkett Smith. Other artists, including British pop singer Natasha Bedingfield, also spoke at the event.

Smith, whose Thursday interview with Obama during the president's stay in Oslo will be shown at the concert Friday night, said he had no reservations about Obama's peace prize despite his status as an early first-term wartime president.

Whether Barack Obama as an individual deserved the prize was up for debate, he said. "But Barack Obama as an idea has transcended so many avenues that there's positively no debate that he deserved this honor," he said.

Novelist Andrew Klavan Describes How He Made The Shift From Leftist To Conservative

His transition mirrors mine, so I find this tremendously interesting. I can remember uttering almost the exact same words time and time again, with regard to Ronald Reagan, back in 1988-91.

However, my progression into Conservatism lay dormant during the Clinton years. I liked Clinton, and still do.

9/11 changed me dramatically, but it was the Jenin "Massacre" which finally made me realize the Left was morally bankrupt.

Check this out:

It was an experience that very much mirrored the pattern of the famous paradigm shift described in Thomas Kuhn’s “Structure of Scientific Revolutions.” Anomalies started to occur, things that didn’t fit into what I thought of as a “liberal” world view. The Bakke case, in which the Supreme Court supported affirmative action – that was a big one: I thought it was a clear sign that the left – my side – had signed on to racism. Feminism, political correctness, the disaster of welfare, the appeasement of the Soviet Union – I kept saying, “Well, that’s no good,” but I thought they were anomalies. I still didn’t realize there was an alternative philosophy that described the world more accurately. Then the Berlin Wall fell down – everything Reagan predicted – stupid Reagan, cowboy Reagan, dumb old movie actor Reagan – every single thing he said would happen, happened.

And it finally began to dawn on me, “Oh, I get it: it’s not this and this and this that’s wrong. It’s ALL wrong.” And I started the long, difficult process of changing my mind.

And more:

FP: What are your thoughts on the position the Left has taken in our conflict with radical Islam?

Klavan: If I were still capable of being appalled by them, I’d be appalled, but as it is… well, I don’t know how you shrug in print but picture me shrugging. So desperate are they to display their tolerance, to claim virtue and open-mindedness for themselves, so secretly ashamed and guilt-ridden and self-hating are they, I guess, that they will give aid and comfort to a philosophy that turns everything they’re supposed to stand for on its head. Anti-female, anti-gay, anti-religious liberty, anti-humanity, radical Islam is a cancer on the face of the earth. Ignoring it, pretending it isn’t there, moral equivalence, relativism – all the various forms of false piety in which the left specializes – are as helpful with radical Islam as they are with other cancers. It’s like having your doctor say, “Yes, there’s a spot on your x-ray, but let’s not do anything about it, in case we make it angry or seem biased!” Academics, entertainers, wealthy elites like Michael Moore who think Islamists are going to like them, spare them and their limousines and their millions, because they’re such ever-so-good people… well, they’re like the intellectuals who lined the streets of Vienna to welcome Hitler. The next day, they were gone.

CAIR Finally Under Investigation

From Robert Spencer in Human Events:

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), a longtime partner of the FBI in its efforts to reach out to American Muslims, now appears to be under criminal investigation by that same FBI. It’s a refreshing breakthrough of sanity in the FBI’s dealing with the domestic terror threat -- and it came to light just as CAIR was poised to win yet another victory in its ongoing campaign of harassment and intimidation against anyone who dares draw attention to jihadist activity in the United States.

CAIR, the Council on American-Islamic Relations, is an unindicted co-conspirator in a Hamas terror funding case -- so named by the Justice Department. CAIR operatives have repeatedly refused to denounce Hamas and Hizballah as terrorist groups. Several former CAIR officials have been convicted of various crimes related to jihad terror. CAIR’s cofounder and longtime Board chairman (Omar Ahmad), as well as its chief spokesman (Ibrahim “Honest Ibe” Hooper), have made Islamic supremacist statements. Yet despite the many indications that CAIR was not exactly a paragon of patriotism and loyalty to Constitutional values, the FBI worked closely with CAIR for years – until the organization’s unindicted co-conspirator status was too much even for the politically correct Feds, and the FBI ended work with CAIR in fall 2008.

Yet even then, there was no public indication that CAIR was under investigation. That came to light through a series of improbable events. A young man named Chris Gaubatz, posing as a new convert to Islam named David “Dawud” Marshall, secured an internship with CAIR in 2008 – and began to carry out of CAIR headquarters 12,000 pages of documents and even audiotapes of CAIR officials.

This material became the basis for the explosive book Muslim Mafia: Inside the Secret Underworld That’s Conspiring to Islamize America, by Chris’s father David Gaubatz and Paul Sperry, which contains numerous revelations about the group’s shady internal dealings. Muslim Mafia confirms what veteran CAIR-watchers have long suspected: that CAIR is an integral part of the Muslim Brotherhood’s apparatus in the U.S.

The Brotherhood is an international Islamic organization, the parent group of both Hamas and Al-Qaeda, that is in its own words dedicated in America to “a kind of grand jihad in eliminating and destroying Western civilization from within and sabotaging its miserable house.” Muslim Mafia contains details of how CAIR has tried to block anti-terror investigations -- and has meanwhile insinuated itself into the highest levels of power in Washington.

As a result of the revelations in Muslim Mafia, Representatives Sue Myrick (R-NC) Trent Franks (R-AZ) Paul Broun (R-GA) and John Shadegg (R-AZ) wrote a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder, requesting that he “provide each Member of Congress a summary of the evidence and findings by the DOJ and FBI which led them to name CAIR an unindicted co-conspirator in a terrorism trial.” Holder has not publicly complied, but CAIR is by no means out of the woods yet.

When Muslim Mafia hit bookstore shelves, CAIR did not deny any of its allegations, resorting instead to its tried-and-true tactic of shooting the messenger, defaming the Gaubatzes and Sperry as “hatemongers” and suing to recover the documents, claiming that the material had been stolen and even that Chris Gaubatz had trespassed on CAIR property.

A court ruled in CAIR’s favor, but just as CAIR was about to regain control of the documents, the FBI stepped in with a subpoena, taking the documents for its own hitherto unknown investigation of CAIR.

This investigation is long overdue. The respect and access CAIR has enjoyed from government and law enforcement agencies, as well as the mainstream media, has long been out of sync with its steadfast opposition to virtually every anti-terror measure that has been devised since 9/11; its assistance in an attempt to sue airline passengers who reported on suspicious activity by Muslims in an airport; and its relentless demonization of everyone who speaks honestly about the jihad threat in the U.S.

CAIR should be closed down, and its officers prosecuted where prosecution is justified. And if that ever happens, Americans will finally be able to be sure that the resistance to jihad activity in the U.S. is on track.

Continuing Our Long Descent Into Socialist Madness

How does this give anyone incentive to work harder, be better, improve their company?

It starts with the execs now, but when will it start to filter down?

Automakers, banks slapped with pay limits
Pay czar curbs execs' cash pay to $500,000 at bailed-out firms, companies

WASHINGTON - The Obama administration's pay czar is limiting the cash compensation for executives at companies that received the largest taxpayer bailouts to $500,000 and delaying some other payouts.

The 25th through the 100th top earners at Citigroup, GMAC, American International Group and General Motors must take more than half their compensation in stock, and at least half must be delayed for three or more years, said Kenneth Feinberg, the Treasury Department's Special Master for Executive Compensation.

About 12 executives were granted exemptions to the $500,000 cash cap because they were necessary for the companies to "thrive, be able to compete, and not lose key people," he said Friday.

The new rules will only apply to the second half of December, and will not affect what the employees already have been paid this year.

The rules will affect many workers' year-end bonuses and stock grants, Feinberg said. They also will serve as a starting point for negotiations next year over pay packages for 2010.

Feinberg already announced specific pay packages for the top 25 earners at firms he oversees.

Feinberg's rulings don't apply to Bank of America because its bailouts were repaid this week. Chrysler and Chrysler Financial also were exempt because executives there made less than $500,000.

Obama’s Individual Health Care Mandate is Unconstitutional

by Brian Darling

The Senate is debating the future of American health care, yet one very important issue has yet to get a full and fair debate. Is the individual mandate that forces citizens to purchase health care insurance a constitutional power of the federal government? When House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Ca.) was asked this question, she answered with the non sequitur “are you serious?” Conservatives who respect the idea that the constitution maps out a federal government with limited powers would answer with a loud — “Hell No.”

The Heritage Foundation and the American Center for Law & Justice (ACLJ) recently released legal analysis calling into serious question the constitutionality of the Congress’s plan to force all citizens to purchase health insurance. These conservative institutions argue that the unprecedented idea, a mandate that all Americans be forced into a contractual agreement with a private party for health insurance, is not a constitutionally permissible activity by the federal government. My sources tell me that this issue will be raised during the Senate debate on ObamaCare very soon and may open another front in the war against ObamaCare. (more…)

Meanwhile, our Congress People do even seem to know what the Constitution is:

Vaclav Havel on Obama: Soiling Your Pants Prematurely Will Not Gain You International Respect

Foreign Policy interviewed Former Czech President, political prisoner and playwright Vaclav Havel on Barack Obama and the costs of moral compromise.

Question: How, as president, do you decide when these small compromises are worth it and when they might lead to something more dangerous?

Havel: Politics, it means, every day making some compromises, and to choose between one evil and another evil, and to decide which is bigger and which is smaller. But sometimes, some of these compromises could be very dangerous because it could be the beginning of the road of making a lot of other compromises, which are results of the first one, and there are very dangerous compromises. And it’s necessary, I think, to have the feeling which compromise is possible to do and which, could be, maybe, after ten years, could be somehow very dangerous.

I will illustrate this with my own experience. Two days after I was elected president, I invited the Dalai Lama to visit. I was the first head of the state who invited him in this way, directly. And everybody was saying that it was a terribly dangerous act and issued their disapproving statements and expressions. But it was a ritual matter. Later, the Chinese deputy prime minister and the foreign minister came for a visit and brought me a pile of books about the Dalai Lama and some governmental documents about what good care they have taken of Tibet, and so on. They were propagandist, fabricated books, but he felt the need to explain something to me.

I had a press conference with this minister of foreign affairs. And he said, “It was wonderful, meeting, because we were speaking openly. Mr. Havel gave me his opinion, and I explained the opinion of our government. I gave him this book, and he thanked me for it.”

This was unbelievable! Why did they feel the need to explain their point of view to the leader of such a small nation? Because they respect it when someone is standing his ground, when someone is not afraid of them. When someone soils his pants prematurely, then they do not respect you more for it.

Jennifer Rubin has more on Vaclav Havel’s advice to Obama.

Its Come to This: UK Monitoring Nursery Schools For Signs of Islamist Brainwashing....

The police and the British Intelligence are not allowed to say "Islamic Extremists".

At the same time, the problem with Islamic Extremism is so bad, they have to monitor pre-schools.

Friggin' amazing.

(Times Onlines)- Nursery-age children should be monitored for signs of brainwashing by Islamist extremists, according to a leaked police memo obtained by The Times.

In an e-mail to community groups, an officer in the West Midlands counter-terrorism unit wrote: “I do hope that you will tell me about persons, of whatever age, you think may have been radicalised or be vulnerable to radicalisation ... Evidence suggests that radicalisation can take place from the age of 4.”

The police unit confirmed that counter-terrorist officers specially trained in identifying children and young people vulnerable to radicalisation had visited nursery schools.

There have been acute worries about radicalisation in the Birmingham area since a terrorist was caught on a surveillance tape indoctrinating his five-year-old son.

Parviz Khan, who was jailed for plotting to kidnap and behead a British soldier, was heard threatening the boy with a beating if he did not answer questions correctly. “Who do you love?” Kahn asked. “I love Sheikh Osama bin Laden,” the boy answered.

The West Midlands counter-terrorism unit confirmed that its officer had visited a nursery school attached to a primary school and had spoken to staff. The unit said that it had 21 uniformed counter-terrorism officer who engaged openly and directly with communities, schools and other public bodies.

SHOCK/LAFFRIOT - It takes an Obama to rehabilitate the image of DOUBLE-YOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Politico, no less:

Ben Smith: Bush closes the gap

Bush closes the gap

Public Policy Polling:

Perhaps the greatest measure of Obama's declining support is that just 50% of voters now say they prefer having him as President to George W. Bush, with 44% saying they'd rather have his predecessor. Given the horrendous approval ratings Bush showed during his final term that's somewhat of a surprise and an indication that voters are increasingly placing the blame on Obama for the country's difficulties instead of giving him space because of the tough situation he inherited. The closeness in the Obama/Bush numbers also has implications for the 2010 elections. Using the Bush card may not be particularly effective for Democrats anymore, which is good news generally for Republicans and especially ones like Rob Portman who are running for office and have close ties to the former President.

(Warning on Content)
In March 2000 the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) organization of Massachusetts held its 10 Year Anniversary GLSEN/Boston conference at Tufts University. This conference was fully supported by the Massachusetts Department of Education, the Safe Schools Program, the Governor’s Commission on Gay and Lesbian Youth, and some of the presenters even received federal money. During the 2000 conference, workshop leaders led a “youth only, ages 14-21″ session that offered lessons in “fisting” a dangerous sexual practice. During the same workshop an activist asked 14 year-old students, “Spit or swallow?… Is it rude?” The unbelievable audio clip is posted here. Barack Obama’s “Safe Schools Czar” Kevin Jennings is the founder of GLSEN. He was paid $273,573.96 as its executive director in 2007. Jennings was the keynote speaker at the 2000 GLSEN conference.

Unfortunately for GLSEN, undercover journalists with Mass Resistance recorded these outrageous sessions at Tufts University. The audio was later leaked to a local radio station. This created such an uproar that GLSEN leaders were forced to apologize for their disgusting behavior.

Despite the controversy, Barack Obama’s Safe Schools Czar Kevin Jennings and his GLSEN organization did nothing to clean up their act. In fact in 2001 activists handed out “fisting kits” to the children and teachers who attended the GLSEN conference.

But that’s not all. The children who attended Kevin Jennnings’ GLSEN 2005 Conference also left with their own “Little Black Book – Queer in the 21st Century”.
Here’s one page from that Black Book for teens:
dookie noodle
The entire Little Black Book is posted here.

And, here’s the transcript from item #3 above:

No Dookie On Your Noodle! Nobody knows better than queer men that sh*t happens. It’s just a fact of life…and butts*x. While there are steps to take to avoid a mess, they’re not always practical for the boy on the go. Condoms allow you a certain freedom that can be a great selling point if you’re cruising the park and don’t want stray spunk on your new polyester shirt…”

So, basically, in the crudest language imaginable, GLSEN recommended that “boys” go out cruising for anonymous anal sex in public parks with strangers.
Thanks to a reader for pointing this out.

Today Kevin Jennings, the founder of GLSEN, is Barack Obama’s Safe Schools Czar.

There’s more to come.

UPDATE: Grassroots Nation has started a petition to fire Kevin Jennings.
—Please think of your kids and go sign it now!

UPDATE 2: Monte Kuligowski at the American Thinker says the Kevin Jennings appointment will hurt Obama immeasurably once the story breaks through the double-bolted door of the “mainstream” newsroom.

The fistgate scandal is not about being homophobic… It’s about protecting children.

In March 2000 Barack Obama’s Safe Schools Czar Kevin Jennings was the keynote speaker at a controversial youth conference at Tuft’s University . This conference sponsored by the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) was fully supported by the Massachusetts Department of Education, the Safe Schools Program, the Governor’s Commission on Gay and Lesbian Youth, and some of the presenters even received federal money.

An undercover journalist with Mass Resistance was at the conference and recorded a couple of the workshops. During one of the conference workshops an activist asks 14 year-old students, “Spit or swallow?… Is it rude?” This audio clip segment is posted here.

But that’s not all. The adult leaders also promoted fisting during the “youth only, ages 14-21″ session.

margot abels

Margot Abels led the workshop, “What They Didn’t Tell You About Queer Sex and Sexuality in Health Class: Workshop for Youth Only, Ages 14-21. “During the session she praised the homosexual practice of ‘fisting’”–widely condemned by medical authorities as dangerous–saying that, “It often gets a bad rap.” (Wolcott)

After the tapes made their way into the local news Margot Abels was fired. She later said that she was disappointed that she became the Fistgate scapegoat. She also said that the organizers knew beforehand what the “sexuality educators” would discuss with children at the “fisting” workshop. Kevin Jennings, as co-chair of the Governor’s Commission on Gay and Lesbian Youth education committee, was one of the organizers of the “educational” material at the state level.

Mass Resistance blog reported:

Jennings, after all, worked hand in hand with the Mass. Department of Education from the beginning, as co-chair of the Governor’s Commission on Gay and Lesbian Youth education committee, which set up the statewide program, “Safe Schools for Gay and Lesbian Students” in the DOE. That is the program the fisting workshop instructors worked for…

Rod Dreher wrote in the Weekly Standard (July 2000):

The [Fistgate] tapes went out anyway [despite GLSEN's threat of a lawsuit for "illegal wiretapping"] and became a talk radio sensation. On May 19, state education chief David Driscoll canned Abels and Netherland and terminated Gaucher’s contract. But Driscoll also insisted that the controversial workshop was an aberration that shouldn’t be allowed to derail the entire program. Abels fumed to the press that the education department had known perfectly well what she had been doing for years and hadn’t cared until the tapes had surfaced. Camenker, ironically, agreed.

The Mass News website also confirmed this in 2001, via Mass Resistance:

“[W]e flew sort of below the radar screen for a long time,” Margot Abels told Boston’s homosexual newspaper, Bay Windows.

She taught them sex because she thought she knew better than the parents what should be taught to the children. She says she had the support of state officials during her seven years at the state Department of Education.

“We always knew that we were working in an area that in certain places was considered really controversial and we also knew that we were doing cutting edge work and that there are plenty of people that don’t support doing work with gay kids. But I think that we flew sort of below the radar screen for a long time and were able to, and had the complete support of our agency. Maybe David Driscoll [Commissioner of Education] didn’t always know everything that we did, but certainly our supervisors did,” said Abels.

And, in an interview in Ocotber 2001 with Massachusetts News Brian Camenker from Mass Resistance also confirmed that the DOE leadership knew exactly what was being promoted at the GLSEN meetings:

Camenker: Well you see the DOE tried to paint her as this anomaly, someone who just came in and did something bad. The department is made up of people just as radical as she is and in many cases more radical. And so, when Driscoll, the Commissioner, and the others tried to say that what she had done was unusual and said it would never happen again, they were a bunch of liars. In fact, they weren’t shocked at all. They knew what was going on. They helped her plan it and they approved it at every level. When the people there heard about what she was doing when we first told them about it, they weren’t surprised. This proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that the DOE knew about it and planned it and was actually very comfortable with what she did. The only reason that they fired her was because of the immense public outrage.

Kevin Jennings, as co-chair of the Governor’s Commission on Gay and Lesbian Youth education committee and founder of GLSEN, helped plan and organize the “educational material” at the conference.

Today Kevin Jennings is Barack Obama’s National Safe School Czar.

By the way… Apparently, the Soros-funded left does not appreciate these reports. Founding Bloggers responds.
