Did UK Pass or Not Pass The Intel?

Update 1:

MI5 told US about Detroit bomber's terror links 'a year ago'...see here.

Fausta has some excellent reporting on the matter here.

Via Sky News:
Gordon Brown's official spokesman has admitted that British intelligence officials did not pass any information on the alleged Detroit plane bomber to US authorities.

It follows reports that the White House accused the spokesman making a "mistake" when he appeared to confirm the UK told the US that Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab had links to extremists over a year ago.

During a briefing to journalists, the Prime Minister's spokesman said: "There is no suggestion the UK passed intelligence to the US that they did not act on."

But Sky's political correspondent Joey Jones said it had been an "awful" briefing.

"He tried to clear things up but only succeeded in muddying the waters still further," Jones said.

"After he read Downing Street's statement, the spokesman said there would be no further comment on intelligence issues.

"However, he did then comment, saying: 'Whatever information was passed to the US, they did what they needed to do with it.'"

The alleged bomber, 23, is in US custody after apparently trying to trigger a blast on an aeroplane approaching Detroit from Amsterdam.

He has been charged with trying to blow up the plane by setting off explosives stitched into his underwear.

The alleged attempt failed when he was stopped by passengers.

Mr Brown's spokesman will brief journalists again at 3:45 this afternoon, around the time Home Secretary Alan Johnson will make a statement to MPs about the attempted bombing.
This is getting murkier by the minute? Did MI5 drop the ball? Didn't they reject his re-entry into the UK? Why would PM Brown even permit the hint of this in light of his upcoming probable smashing by the Tories and James Cameron? Or in light of the manner his wife and he have been treated by the Obamas?

I see the hand of Axelrod and Emanuel here trying to deflect criticism leveled, justly, against Comrade Zero, Goose Stepper Napolitano and Al Qaeda's in house counsel, Eric Holder.

But don't worry, like Midnight Rider adroitly conveys below, TSA is on the prowl and alas, we are "safe"!!!!

IT JUST DOESN'T MATTER IF THEY DID OR DID NOT.

WHY?

IF they did not they will claim they don't have the resources available to follow all of these types of leads. That would be true.

If they did the CIA et al will say the same thing.

Also true.

CONCLUSION: WE DO NOT TAKE THE THREAT SERIOUSLY ENUF TO ALLOCATE SUFFICIENT RESOURCES TO PROTECTING OURSELVES.

If the Brits CANNOT allocate the resources, ending visas and deportations until the threat matches the resources is the answer.

WE HAVE NO SUCH EXCUSE. We have 300,000,000 people, and plenty o educational ability to get translators and agents. We are CHOOSING defeat.

Are you a Yankees fan in Boston??? I am a 3rd generation, hard core NYY fan!

I agree with your comments and have constantly advised since 9/11 that we need to PROFILE and replicate the Israeli methodology at Ben Gurion-Tel Aviv Airport.

Screening 90 yr old people, not letting sick people out of their seats 1 hr prior to landing, etc. will NOT advance our security.

At a broader level, we are dealing with a pusillanimous charlatan that is infesting 1600 Penn. Ave and is a joker, as are Janet"Overseas Contingency" Napolitano and Al Qaeda's in house counsel, Eric Holder.

This story is simply Brown trying to suck up to Obama; give him a do-over.

Maybe next time Obama won't make Brown look so bad on the world stage.

Of course, for Brown, there will be no next time, because he's going to be voted out.

@ Pastorius, this is what I thought initially but know there are different reports, as per the updates.

You are correct, though, it is all moot because Brown will be out by May and Cameron (whom I have been led to understand has some sort of personal relationship with Comrade Zero) will at 10 Downing St.
