Something is afoul here.
The landmark status issue with this 9/11 mosque should have become apparent to those involved in the planning stages - if not at the closing of sale(old Burlington Coat factory).
The announcement that this 13 story insult received council approval led to the assumption that the project would somehow manage to obtain all legal permits for demolition, construction, as well as passing all inspections in time to dedicate the "Cordoba Initiative" for the tenth anniversary of 9/11 NEXT YEAR .
Does this sound like a rational possibility to you?. Compare the Cordoba Initiative with the big hole in the ground @ the site of the twin tower footprints 8+ years later.
After reconsidering the above, I suspect this announcement about the Cordoba Initiative was either a bluff to test the waters, or a pre-meditated instigation to pour salt into 9/11 wounds. Why would they do that? Because they can. Or worse, perhaps there is more than demolition/construction planned. Think about the recent Times Square jihad attempt.
The SIOA gathering would conveniently gather like-minded counter-jihad/ counter-sharia troops (mischief makers according to the qur'an) together in one place.

Plus there is another mosque in the works even closer to the WTC site. The landmark protection could certainly be leveraged to block the BCF Cordoba project to the accompanyment of much Muslim wailing and whining. Meanwhile they could still quietly get their Ground Zero mosque.
The protest site will be swarming with NYPD and an attack would create negative publicity despite the fact that most of the country wouldn't know who the hell we are.
I suspect this is a bluff to remind the ummah of the "triumph" of 9/11, play the PC/MC cards and exercise mucho taqiyya in the debate over the mosque, and detract attention from the other mosque. Would this have been enough to have earned them the funding for the "effort"?
