Police questioned a passenger on a small commercial plane that flew from Chicago to a northern Michigan resort town on Friday after the crew reported he was acting suspiciously.
Crew members aboard United Airlines Flight 6036 said the 28-year-old California man had taken ''an article'' into the bathroom and left without it, said Traverse City Police Capt. Steve Morgan. The crew found that a panel inside the bathroom had been tampered with, he said.
BTW: THEY DON'T TELL US WHAT THE SUSPECTED PASSENGER'S "PROFILE" IS.
I THINK THE ENEMY IS TRYING TO INURE US TO SEVERAL POSSIBLE TACTICS IN ORDER TO IMMOBILIZE A POSSIBLE RESPONSE.
Short-lived drama becomes a puzzle for investigators By ALEX PIAZZA Special to the Record-Eagle
Traverse City -- Call it the terror threat that wasn't.
Traverse City's airport closed for about a half-hour Friday morning, police whisked a man off a United Express flight from Chicago, authorities herded passengers into a fire station for intensive questioning, and reports swirled of a bomb threat after a would-be suspect tarried in a commuter plane's restroom.
. . . A California man, 28, was detained throughout the afternoon after he spent about 15 minutes in the plane's bathroom, where a plastic flap apparently was dislodged sometime during the flight from Chicago.
Traverse City resident Bob Crosby was on the flight, traveling home from a stay in Chicago. He was seated next to a young man who stood and eventually walked to the plane's rear.
"I just happen to have a recollection of seeing him fooling around with his carry-on luggage," Crosby said.
Crosby saw the man handle "a tiny package" before he headed to the plane's restroom.
"I don't know if he took it back there with him," he said.
The passenger, who originally sat next to Crosby, spent roughly 15 minutes in the bathroom, he said.
A flight attendant later discovered a panel inside the bathroom had been "tampered with" after he exited.
Airline officials made an emergency call to police to report "suspicious activity by a passenger on an aircraft," police said.
Local police, Transportation Security Administration officials and FBI investigators were dispatched to Cherry Capital around 10:20 a.m. Friday.
[**]"We exhausted all our officers," said Traverse City Police officer Paul Ellul, who guarded an airport security fence Friday.
. . .
Police would not confirm whether the man was of Middle-Eastern descent.
. . .
Hamilton heard that a fellow passenger apparently saw the man with a white package with blue markings, he said. Authorities searched Hamilton's and other passengers' bags for the package, he said.
Crosby, and his wife, Charlotte, left the airport around 2 p.m. -- nearly four hours after his flight was expected to arrive in Traverse City.

Officers Could Face Rebuke in Ft. Hood Shooting Friday, 15 Jan 2010 06:45 AM
As many as eight Army officers could face punishment for failing to do anything when the alleged shooter in the Fort Hood rampage displayed erratic behavior early in his military career, a U.S. official says.
The officers supervised the suspect when he was a medical student and during his work as an Army psychiatrist at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.
Defense Secretary Robert Gates was expected to refer findings on the officers to the Army for further inquiry and possible punishment. The report on what went wrong in the case of Army Maj. Nidal Hasan is expected to be released Friday.
The official said Thursday that a Pentagon inquiry finds fault with five to eight supervisors who knew or should have known about the shortcomings and erratic behavior of Hasan, who's accused of killing 13 people at the Texas Army base on Nov. 5.
The official described the confidential report on condition of anonymity because it has not been made public.
According to information gathered during the internal Pentagon review and obtained by The Associated Press last week, Hasan's strident views on Islam became more pronounced as his training progressed. Worries about his competence also grew, yet his superiors continued to give him positive performance evaluations that kept him moving through the ranks. That led to his eventual assignment at Fort Hood.
Recent statistics show the Army rarely blocks junior officers from promotion, especially in the medical corps.
Hasan showed no signs of being violent or a threat. But parallels have been drawn between the missed signals in his case and those preceding the failed Christmas Day attempt to blow up a Detroit-bound U.S. airliner. President Barack Obama and his top national security aides have acknowledged they had intelligence about the alleged bomber, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, but failed to connect the dots.
The Pentagon review is not intended to delve into allegations Hasan corresponded by e-mail with Yemen-based radical cleric, Anwar al-Awlaki, before the Fort Hood shootings. Those issues are part of a separate criminal investigation by U.S. law enforcement officials.
Hasan has been charged with 13 counts of premeditated murder and 32 counts of attempted premeditated murder. Authorities have not said whether they plan to seek the death penalty.
After the Fort Hood shootings, Gates appointed two former senior defense officials to examine the procedures and policies for identifying threats within the military services. The review was led by former Army Secretary Togo West and retired Navy Adm. Vernon Clark.

Although our federal government’s effort to fight terrorism appears hamstrung by political correctness that even makes the use of the word "terrorist" offensive, the average, everyday American has no qualms about fighting terrorism wherever they meet it.
This motivation to fight, rather than lie down and die like sheep, was literally woven into the genes of Americans when this nation began to be colonized centuries ago. And in our more recent history, even before we faced a terrorist threat, an innate sense of a duty to defend freedom characterized generations of Americans who went before us.
We’ve seen this fighting spirit in the numerous “concealed carry” laws that swept through our nation over the last few decades: laws which are indicative of the fact that citizens are no longer just keeping arms, but are bearing them as well.
I thought about this last week, while driving through the night from West Texas to Houston. On the dark highway I occasionally slipped my hand down beside my seat where I could feel the handle of my Glock 29 (in 10mm). Just knowing the gun was there reminded me I was a free man who had the responsibility to remain free.
As I rode with my gun within reach, my mind drifted back to the words of James Madison, who said: “The Constitution preserves the advantage of being armed which Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation where the governments are afraid to trust the people with arms.”
Madison understood that because inalienable rights are God-given rights, they are also God-given duties. In other words, we don’t just have the right to keep and bear arms, but also the duty to do so.
Thus somehow, even now, although a political correctness that tends to emasculate men has overtaken our government, our public schools, and our universities, Americans have managed to keep this one great understanding intact – We have a duty to be free that is just as important as our right to be free.
Remember how Todd Beamer lived and died for this conviction aboard a hijacked airliner, United Airlines flight 93, on September 11, 2001? It was 9:57 a.m. when family members to whom he’d been speaking on his cell phone heard him say, “Let’s roll.” His family then listened as screams and shrieks accompanied the attempts by Beamer, and other passengers, to break into the cockpit and regain control of the plane.
The grassy field in Shanksville, PA, where the hijackers were forced to bury their plane instead of completing their mission, sends a message to all would-be terrorists intent on attacking our country and our citizens – We will not go quietly.
This message has been backed up with the fists and chokeholds everyday passengers have used on shoe-bombers, underwear bombers, and other would-be terrorists on our airplanes since 9/11. It is the message police Sgt. Kim Munley's bullets re-sent via her response to the Ft. Hood shooter on November 5, 2009. And it's the same one the majority of Americans are ready and willing to deliver any time and every place our liberty and/or civility are threatened.
We are not free by chance, but because generations before us understood that God intended great things for this country. From those who took part in the American Revolution to those who fought the War of 1812; from U.S. naval personnel in the Spainish/American War to the Doughboys who turned the tide in World War One; and from World War Two’s greatest generation to Vietnam Vets to the citizens who banded together aboard flight 93 on September 11, and beyond, Americans have not only treasured the right to freedom but also proudly taken unto themselves the duty of defending freedom as well.
Rights are important, but rights alone will not keep us free, for they are static. What we need are more Americans who understand they’ve a duty to defend (and protect) those rights. It is through the execution of this duty that 21st century Americans join ranks with our Founding Fathers in risking “[their] lives, [their] fortunes, and [their] sacred honor” for a cause greater than themselves.
The cause is freedom itself, and it’s ours to uphold.
(ANSAmed) - DUBAI, JANUARY 13 - Today in Dubai, OneWorld 2011 was presented, an ambitious project that aims to defeat stereotypes and misunderstandings between Muslims and the West by creating and event-movement founded on sharing sports, art, entrepreneurship, and reciprocal understanding.
The initiative will be inaugurated in Seattle (USA) on the 10th anniversary of the attack on the World Trade Center in New York, and will involve at least 40 Muslim countries.
The initiative is founded on seven essential elements: youth exchange programmes, with both sides hosting youngsters for at least a month; sports, with football tournaments - mainly women's - between young Americans and Muslims; an art and cultural festival; a trade bazaar that will gather hundreds of entrepreneurs from both sides; a medical conference; a conference dedicated to women; and an inter-religious conference that has already received the full support of U.S. President Barack Obama.
"The idea was born seven years ago, due to the climate created after the 9/11 attacks, but the conditions for the start of a real project, which will begin as an event that will last for just a few months, but intends constantly evolve, were set in place only after the election of President Obama," explained Bob Walsh, the creator and founder of OneWorld 2011, while speaking to ANSAmed.
Walsh is not new to these kinds of initiatives; in 1990, together with Ted turner [sic] he organised the Goodwill Game to bring down the iron curtain between the Russians and Americans. After the inaugural event in Seattle, OneWorld will be repeated every two years in a different Muslim capital city. (ANSAmed).
If Muslims want to repair their image they simply need to stand up to the Jihadists in their midst. They need to report them to the FBI, the CIA, and to the American Military. They need to denounce the murder of gays, apostates, and adulterers, and they need to denounce calls for Jihad and the installation of Sharia law.
If Muslims did that we would trust them.
Having a "Good Will" event on the anniversary of 9/11 only makes me trust them less and hate their religio-political Krayon even more.
To be fair, this story could, perhaps, be an example of Muslims standing up en masse against a Jihadist (from Jawa):
A Nairobi high court on Thursday ordered the Kenyan government to produce in court the controversial Jamaican Muslim cleric, Sheikh Abdullah al Faisal, who is at the centre of a deportation saga that has put the gover n ment and Muslim faithfuls in the country at loggerheads.
However, the government is unlikely to heed the order as government Spokesman, Alfred Mutua, said that the deportation of the cleric remained a top security priority because Al-Fasial "is a dangerous man who can inspire Kenyans to terrorism".
How about Gambia? Nope don't want him.
Neither does Nigeria, Britain, etc etc.
If and when he does make it back to Jamaica he has this to look forward to.
The Gambian decision came days after Jamaican Muslims called for Al-Faisal's indictment on grounds of his alleged terrorism liaisons with Osama bin Laden's terrorism outfit, al Qaeda.
Mutua said, "He is so dangerous that in his own country, the Supreme Islamic Organ in Jamaica has banned him from preaching or giving speeches. He is among the kind of people who give a bad name to Islam."
A 44-YEAR-OLD Dutchman was charged yesterday with causing a mid-air bomb scare on board a transatlantic jet.
Jorge Flores was charged at Shannon District Court sitting in Ennis, contrary to Section 43 of the Air Navigation and Transport Act 1988, of knowingly making a false alarm on the flight by stating that he had a bomb.
In response to the alleged bomb scare on Wednesday the captain of the Aruba-bound Boeing 767, with 231 passengers aboard from Amsterdam, diverted the chartered holiday flight to Shannon airport. It landed at 10.30am, where Mr Flores was immediately arrested by local gardaí.
Giving evidence of arrest, charge and caution, Garda James Quigley of Shannon Garda station told the court Mr Flores made no reply when charged and cautioned.
In court, Insp Tom Kennedy said the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) is to consider the case further and determine if further charges may result. Applying that Mr Flores be remanded in custody to Ennis District Court today, Insp Kennedy said that the remand would allow gardaí further time to inquire about Mr Flores with the Dutch authorities.
Insp Kennedy said that he would be in a better position at the Ennis court sitting to know what may happen with other charges.
Judge Joseph Mangan granted legal aid to Mr Flores and his solicitor, Jenny Fitzgibbon, said that she would be reserving her position about bail to Ennis District Court today.
Mr Flores required the presence of an interpreter for the hearing and his interpreter told the court that Mr Flores wished to address the court, but did not after consulting Ms Fitzgibbon.
Judge Mangan remanded Mr Flores in custody to reappear before Ennis District Court today.
Mr Flores was travelling by himself to the Caribbean island of Aruba off the coast of Venezuela on the flight operated by charter firm, Arkefly.
The bomb scare sparked a major security alert at Shannon airport where the plane was taxied to a remote part of the airfield.
A Garda search of the flight after the expiry of the flight-time to Aruba at 8.15pm on Wednesday found no device. The Dutch holiday makers continued their journey to Aruba after Arkefly flew in a replacement aircraft.
A spokeswoman for Arkefly said it would pursue the individual who allegedly made the bomb scare for the “substantial costs”.
Everyone has now heard the idiot Pat Robertson's statement that Haiti's ills stem from a pact with Satan.
Well, the liberals at the New York Times have their own version of Satan. For example, Tracy Kidder places the responsibility for Haiti's political problems on everyone except Haitians and their leaders. Topping the list is the Great Satan herself, the United States of America. For the denizens of the NYT, attacking America for all the world's problems never goes out of style.
However, now is hardly the time to be playing the blame game. Truly loathsome, even for the despicable Times.
FAA Halts Air Traffic to Quake-Ravage Country Because There's No Room for More Planes and No Jet Fuel for Planes to Return
(CBS/ AP) U.S. officials said they have halted planes from leaving the United States for Haiti at the request of the Haitian government because there is no room on the ground for more planes and no jet fuel for planes to return.
I was happy to hear a panel, including Charles Krauthammer, on Fox today explain that the "immunity" that Interpol is getting will NOT mean they can run around arresting or investigating American citizens without Constitutional limitations, which is certainly what the initial fear buzz indicated.
Turns out the executive order extends to Interpol the relatively benign "immunity" that the Red Cross, and as Krauthammer said, the Swiss delegation, enjoys.
As he put it, "they won't have to pay parking tickets".
While this turns out not to warrant the somewhat breathless outrage of many bloggers, myself included, I think we can all be forgiven for leaping to the conclusions we did.
The Muslim organizer of a rally last week in Detroit against terrorism said he received a death threat over the phone from a man with an Arabic accent upset that he spoke out against other Muslims.
Majed Moughni, a Dearborn attorney who led the rally, told the Free Press he received the violent threat at about 6 a.m. Saturday from a man who said he was from France.
Dearborn Police Det. James Isaacs confirmed Monday that Moughni filed a police report and said the department is investigating the incident.
Moughni said he was able to record part of the call, which he played for the Free Press.
"I want to congratulate you for your place in hellfire, Inshallah," the caller said, using an Arabic phrase that means, God willing. "If you're in front of me, I will shoot you. I will put a bullet in your head. This is the consequence of a hypocrite."
Moughni said he replied:
"Well, this would be a good reason to die."...
At another point in the conversation, the caller told Moughni:
"You're a hypocrite and don't know what Islam is."
"We're defending Islam. That's why we were out there."
(Washington Times)- The Justice Department refused Tuesday to turn over most of the information and documents sought by the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights explaining why a civil complaint was dismissed against members of the New Black Panther Party who disrupted a Philadelphia polling place in the November 2008 elections.
In a 38-page response, the department objected — except for a few court records, letters and procedural documents — to "each and every" question and document request submitted by the commission, saying the subpoenas violated existing executive orders, privacy and privilege concerns, and were burdensome, vague and ambiguous.
The lengthy response, a copy of which was obtained by The Washington Times, also said the requested information and documents were protected by the attorney-client privilege or were not subject to disclosure because they included attorney or law enforcement work products.
The department also refused to release any information about an investigation of the New Black Panther Party case by its office of professional responsibility, saying the ongoing review was privileged information or was covered by the Privacy Act.
We strongly recommend that as many of you that have wide-spread contact lists, urge your friends and readers, to look up the relevant embassy in their home country, or in as many countries as they can handle, and write/fax/email the Ambassador and/or Consular staff on the travesty of Geert Wilders’ upcoming trial on January 20 2010.
There are fax numbers, addresses and in many cases, email addresses in the above list that can be used with great results.
You may want to mention the following 2-3 main points to be addressed:
- We note that Holland has always been a staunch ally of the West in its protection of Free Speech, now however, it seems that the old traditions have been abolished
- We abhor the decision of the Dutch Government and Justice Minister E.M.H. Hirsch Ballin to prosecute Hon Geert Wilders for hate speech on January 20 2010
- We urge the Government to immediately drop all charges andFREE GEERT WILDERS
WHITE HOUSE: US STRONGER NOW THAT NON-DIALECT HAMPERED NEGRO IS PREZ
POST OF THE DAY - BUMPED TO THE TOP FOR NOW
Obama 'strengthened America' in first year: White House The White House Tuesday argued President Barack Obama's "steady diplomacy" had made America stronger and renewed its moral authority despite "unprecedented challenges" in his first year in office.
Let's take a tour. Domestic policy ..
Health Care ..2 different bills were passed, unfortunately no one yet understands them, and their differences are incompatible. However, Obama gets a point because he only wanted something to pass even if it was nothing. On that basis C+ FOR THE BILL.
Economic Recovery ..they are hanging on a technical definition of recovery which is most highly influenced by bank statements and govt owned major industries. The banks HELP make recovery possible by allowing the entrepreneurial to take risks. Are they? Bank products which invent new ways to sell non products (like credit default swaps) only make speculation increases possible, NOT JOBS. Transactions based on financial products on which commission and margin is made are mirages of wealth, not increases in wealth (except to those VERY VERY FEW who make the margins and grab the bonuses on which the charade fulfills the criteria..products DESIGNED to enrich those few, not create wealth by means of more production of any kind). The stimulus was really designed to prevent entities like Goldman-Sachs (who curiously got 100% on their AIG assets, unlike the rest of the world) from going belly up, with the public reasoning that if the banks died, lending would stop. Of course, lending stopped. The banks were petrified by their own greed and stupidity and inventiveness to back both, and suddenly wanted no risk on the books. Obama did nothing about this. Ford has been successful, but not the others. Meanwhile out here in the field NO RECOVERY IS APPARENT, not only that but there is fear of risk taking at the local level by reason of double dip. The actual unemployment rate is over 17% and does not move at all. The number is not higher because so many DROPPED OUT of the statistics, having given up, and the fact that 661,000 fewer positions were available in Dec. And BTW, according to Obama, channeling an 8 year old, it's Bush's fault. That irresponsible, greedy SOB
Telling me it would suck worse based on imaginary jobs saved inventomatic stats is BULLSHIT. I don't care. I don't want to hear it. Just get out of the way.
Gun and Ammo sales are way back-ordered. Non hybrid seed sales as well. Gold is at an all time high.
Now what do these things have in common?
Foreign Policy - Russia .. they are building a new generation of weapons for themselves for the express purpose of preventing us from being the only 'superpower' and it was announced in the last 12 months. They are selling every weapon they have except ICBM's and nukes (that we know of) from planes and helos, to subs and capital ships. They are TOTALLY uncooperative, except by reason of diplomatic language on Iran (a weapons client). And BTW, according to Obama, channeling an 8 year old, it's Bush's fault. That overbearing, and challenging SOB
China .. rapidly expanding military, both in terms of weapons numbers AND QUALITY. They continue to fund our debt but at a decreasing rate, while selling us the products we must borrow on to buy from them. They are TOTALLY uncooperative, except by reason of diplomatic language on Iran (a weapons client). And BTW, according to Obama, channeling an 8 year old, it's Bush's fault. That unimaginative SOB.
NATO .. uncooperative on Afghanistan. Unable to stop piracy, still leaning almost completely on the US in the Balkans, and STILL with American bases for THEIR protection of THEIR soil, 65 years after WW2. Obama has ALIENATED the leadership of France, and managed to make one of his first acts returning Britain's gift of a bust of Churchill. And BTW, according to Obama, channeling an 8 year old, it's Bush's fault. That, confrontational, 'old europe fearing' moron.
Japan .. a more anti American govt in terms of goals has never been in office in Japan. They show the most concern over North Korea. We continue to refuse them the F-22 Raptors THEY say they need because of Norkland. Nor are they the largest help over Iran. China.
Iran .. they not only got all THEY WANTED from this administration, they were called the legitimate govt after a joke of an election so totally crooked riots in the streets occurred, and CONTINUE to occur with, REAL ACTUAL MARTYRS while this govt does it's best Stanley Baldwin 'we have to talk to them no matter what' imitation. And BTW, according to Obama, channeling an 8 year old, it's Bush's fault. That axis of evil, fool.
Israel .. our only democratic ally in the middle east has gotten two things since Jan 2009, the cold shoulder and threats. Since then the leaders of Israel have made AT LEAST FIVE TRIPS TO MOSCOW. And BTW, according to Obama, channeling an 8 year old, it's Bush's fault. That lack of attention, moron.
Iraq .. continues to generally improve, AND IT'S BUSH'S FAULT
Afghanistan .. OBAMA generally gets the idea. But the sensation it's all lip service doesn't evaporate, and I think that is also true of our enemies view of us. And BTW, according to Obama, channeling an 8 year old, it's Bush's fault. That lack of attention, moron, distracted by Iraq (the only thing which shows DEMONSTRABLE IMPROVEMENT...so far).
Al Qaeda and Islamists.. only in the last POST 'he was an isolated extremist' horror show does the idea enter Obama's mind that maybe it's more than AFPAK in play. From Indonesia and the Phillipines to the atlantic coast of Africa, and Texas and Michigan, we face everyone from Abu Sayyaf, and JI to AQIM. And BTW, according to Obama, channeling an 8 year old, it's Bush's fault. That lack of attention, moron thinking about Iraq (the only thing which shows DEMONSTRABLE IMPROVEMENT...so far).
Pakistan .. Obama has no clue. The center of the war is not Afghanistan, dude. It's the Taliban's effort to make Waziristan an impregnable base to GET Pakistan. But that's just one campaign they have under way. Obama gets points for drones, however. And BTW, according to Obama, channeling an 8 year old, it's Bush's fault for not dealing effectively with the leaders there.
But he does have a Nobel prize even if he made a world sized fool out of himself and us over the olympics, while the awards committee WITH OBVIOUS GLEE gave the Olympics elsewhere.
F+ to D- .
And we haven't mentioned Czars. This administration is a shambles. The banks are doing better. The Russians, Chinese, and Iranians are doing better. OPEC is doing better.
The rest of us are worse off today than we were in 2008. And your excuse is that things would be worse if you hadn't been elected, I bet. GO HOME. This world knows it's men against boys where we are concerned.
PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (AP) - Haitians piled bodies along the devastated streets of their capital Wednesday after a powerful earthquake flattened the president's palace, the cathedral, hospitals, schools, the main prison and whole neighborhoods. Officials feared hundreds of thousands may have perished but there was no firm count.
Death was everywhere in Port-au-Prince. Bodies of tiny children were piled next to schools. Corpses of women lay on the street with stunned expressions frozen on their faces as flies began to gather. Bodies of men were covered with plastic tarps or cotton sheets.
President Rene Preval said he believes thousands were killed in Tuesday afternoon's magnitude-7.0 quake, and the scope of the destruction prompted other officials to give even higher estimates. Leading Sen. Youri Latortue told The Associated Press that 500,000 could be dead, although he acknowledged that nobody really knows.
A sheep gave birth to a dead lamb with a human-like face. The calf was born in a village not far from the city of Izmir, Turkey.
Erhan Elibol, a vet, performed Cesarean section on the animal to take the calf out, but was horrified to see that the features of the calf’s snout bore a striking resemblance to a human face.
“I’ve seen mutations with cows and sheep before. I’ve seen a one-eyed calf, a two-headed calf, a five-legged calf. But when I saw this youngster I could not believe my eyes. His mother could not deliver him so I had to help the animal,” the 29-year-old veterinary said.
The lamb’s head had human features on – the eyes, the nose and the mouth – only the ears were those of a sheep.
Veterinaries said that the rare mutation most likely occurred as a result of improper mutation since the fodder for the lamb’s mother was abundant with vitamin A, CNNTurk.com reports.
A goat from Zimbabwe gave birth to a similar youngster in September 2009. The mutant baby born with a human-like head stayed alive for several hours until the frightened village residents killed him.
The governor of the province where the ugly goat was born said that the little goat was the fruit of unnatural relationship between the female goat and a man.
"This incident is very shocking. It is my first time to see such an evil thing. It is really embarrassing," he reportedly said. "The head belongs to a man while the body is that of a goat. This is evident that an adult human being was responsible. Evil powers caused this person to lose self control. We often hear cases of human beings who commit bestiality but this is the first time for such an act to produce a product with human features," he added.
The mutant creature was hairless. Local residents said that even dogs were afraid to approach the bizarre animal.
The locals burnt the body of the little goat, and biologists had no chance to study the rare mutation.
Avatar is a great yarn.. but Cameron needs a head replacement
From Breitbart's Big Hollywood.
IT'S A SPADE!
This appears to be accurate. Both Ain't It Cool News and JoBlo.com have posted James Cameron's full "Avatar" script. To triple-check I went to the 20th Century-Fox site and found that they posted the same script, as well. After being as careful as possible (wouldn't want to smear Cameron like he did the U.S. Marines. NOTE for Leftist hair-splitters: former Marines), I bring you a scene written by James Cameron that was cut from the final film but serves as a glimpse at the director's childish prejudices and mindset:
INT. ARMOR BAY - DAY
TROOPERS issue automatic weapons and magazines to a long line of mine workers. The miners lock and load like the redblooded redneck NRA supporters they are.
BLASTING TECHS are setting radio-detonated primer charges into two-ton stacks of EXPLOSIVE COMPOUND. The stacks are band-strapped together on pallets.
TRACKING WITH SELFRIDGE, staring around him in growing dismay as he walks through the full-scale mobilization. He approaches Quaritch, who is barking orders amid a hive of activity around the ampsuits.
SELFRIDGE This thing is completely out of control!
Quaritch ignores him, turning away to focus on ordnance loading.
SELFRIDGE Listen to me! I am not authorizing you to turn the mine-workers local into a freakin' militia!
QUARITCH I declared threat condition red. That puts all on-world assets under my command.
SELFRIDGE You think you can pull this palace coup shit on me?! I can have your ass with one call -
Quaritch grabs him and PINS him against the side of an ampsuit.
QUARITCH You're a long way from Earth.
Selfridge is paralyzed. Physical force -- against him? Quaritch releases him and walks away.
Emphasis was mine...
Hmm... Looks as though those "redneck NRA" supporting miners were just as eager as the U.S. Marines (NOTE for Leftist hair-splitters: former Marines) to commit a genocide against innocents starting with a 9/11-style terrorist atrocity on the Na'Vi Home Tree which Cameron intentionally filmed to look like the attack on the World Trade Center... only this time committed by U.S. Marines (NOTE for leftist hair-splitters former Marines).
More proof that "Avatar" is anti-American? Well, maybe in Cameron's mind those bloodthirsty mineworkers are "redblooded" Frenchman or supporters of the Scottish NRA.
More proof that "Avatar" is anti-Military (NOTE for Leftist hair-splitters: anti-former Military)? Wherever would someone get that idea?
UPDATE: A statement from James Cameron -- "I regret my choice of language in the Avatar screenplay. Unfortunately, the script was locked before I could add the word teabagger." -- Okay, I made that up.
You can see the full script here. The scene above can be found on page 125.
SHOCKING REPORT: Rand Corp Tells US Army Its Time For a National Stability Police Force
This has to be the scariest thing I have read in a very long time. The Rand Corporation was asked by the US Army to prepare a report recommending whether or not the US Needed a National Stability Police force. Basically a call for American "Brown Shirts" Rand's answer was a resounding yes.
Our analysis clearly indicates that the United States needs an SPF or some other way to accomplish the SPF mission. Stability operations have become an inescapable reality of U.S. foreign policy. Establishing security with soldiers and police is critical because it is difficult to achieve other objectives—such as rebuilding political and economic systems—without it.
The cost of not fixing this gap is significant. The United States will continue to experience major challenges in stability operations if it does not have this policing capacity. These challenges include creating the ability to establish basic law and order, as well as defeat or deter criminal organizations, terrorists, and insurgents. In some cases, allied countries may be able to fill this gap. Allies did this effectively in Bosnia and Kosovo, both of which were successful in establishing security. In other cases, the United States may not be able to count on allied support. The United States should not depend on allies to supply these capabilities, because doing so would limit U.S. freedom of action on the international stage. Consequently, the United States should seriously consider building a high-end police capacity.
The report recommends that these police would not only have a role in foreign lands but also in the United States:
The ability of SPF personnel to act in a law –– enforcement capacity while in the United States. One important aspect of the return on investment from an SPF option is what SPF personnel do when not deployed. Given that an SPF will be deployed one out of every three years at most for active duty options and one out of six for reserve options, whether its members can perform law enforcement functions and so contribute to domestic tranquility and homeland defense when not deployed will have a major impact on whether an option is cost-effective. Two categories of options—military units and contractors—cannot do so under current statutes and regulations.
In particular, for the MP option to be as cost-effective as possible, relief from the Posse Comitatus Act [which forbids the US Army from being used in law enforcement in the United States] would be required to permit its members to perform domestic law enforcement functions. The issue of contractors performing law enforcement functions is moot (our only “contracting” option does not consider a standing contract force, but rather one hired as needed) and would probably be insurmountable if it was not. Furthermore, as noted in our DOTMLPF discussion, working as police officers would greatly contribute to the state of training and readiness of SPF personnel. MPs can do this on military installations, but contract personnel would not so act at all.
The report goes on to say that this Stability Police Force should be placed under the US Marshal Service because that will make it easier for it to have domestic US responsiblities.
Given that it is unlikely that MPs would be permitted to perform civilian policing tasks in the United States, the USMS, despite its capacity and management shortfalls, is the agency best suited to take on the SPF mission under the assumptions of this study. Placing the SPF in the USMS would place it where its members can develop the needed skills under the hybrid staffing option. Furthermore, the USMS has the broadest law enforcement mandate of any U.S. law enforcement agency and many of the required skills, though it would need to increase its capacity significantly. Furthermore, the Department of Justice stands at the center of the rule-of-law effort, with lead roles in policing, judiciary, and corrections efforts.
I wonder what kind of Domestic Role the Stability Police can have, controlling Tea Parties? "Fixing" Fox News? A national police under the control of this or any president will do nothing less than signal the end of freedom in the United States. Any movement toward this force must be voted down.
The police said that a 44-year-old Dutch national has been arrested under the Air Navigation and Transport Act and is currently detained under Section 4 of Criminal Justice Act at Shannon Garda Station.
TIMBUKTU, Mali (Reuters) - In early 2008, an official at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security sent a report to his superiors detailing what he called "the most significant development in the criminal exploitation of aircraft since 9/11."
The document warned that a growing fleet of rogue jet aircraft was regularly crisscrossing the Atlantic Ocean. On one end of the air route, it said, are cocaine-producing areas in the Andes controlled by the leftist Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia. On the other are some of West Africa's most unstable countries.
The report, a copy of which was obtained by Reuters, was ignored, and the problem has since escalated into what security officials in several countries describe as a global security threat.
The clandestine fleet has grown to include twin-engine turboprops, executive jets and retired Boeing 727s that are flying multi-ton loads of cocaine and possibly weapons to an area in Africa where factions of al Qaeda are believed to be facilitating the smuggling of drugs to Europe, the officials say.
Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) has been held responsible for car and suicide bombings in Algeria and Mauritania.
Gunmen and bandits with links to AQIM have also stepped up kidnappings of Europeans for ransom, who are then passed on to AQIM factions seeking ransom payments.
The aircraft hopscotch across South American countries, picking up tons of cocaine and jet fuel, officials say.
They then soar across the Atlantic to West Africa and the Sahel, where the drugs are funneled across the Sahara Desert and into Europe.
An examination of documents and interviews with officials in the United States and three West African nations suggest that at least 10 aircraft have been discovered using this air route since 2006.
Officials warn that many of these aircraft were detected purely by chance. They caution that the real number involved in the networks is likely considerably higher.

While the Islamic world continues apace on it's 1300 year odyssey of murdering, raping, and pillaging, the Infidels nerds are figuring out how to reshape life at the molecular level through the use of Nanowires.
Hell, I don't even understand what a Nanowire is, and yet I know this is some amazing shit.
Prediction; in the future, we won't even have to do away with the Jihadis, we'll just create another dimension, and move them the fuck into it. Then, they can just stay there and murder each other.
Harvard researchers have devised a novel cell culture platform, which sets the stage for a program of radical designed cellular evolution. The test bed (of nails) provides a surface for cells to grow, but also provide a ready means of inserting a wide array of molecular, genetic, or biological (viruses) elements into the growing cellular machinery. Scientists can then observe the effects of various inserted elements upon the growth and behaviour of the cells.
Author Hongkun Park, a professor of chemistry and physics at Harvard University, says that, in theory, "you can put more or less any molecule in more or less any kind of cell." If the method proves effective, it could greatly speed the ability to manipulate cells in a variety of applications, including stem-cell reprogramming and drug screening.
Park's lab recently discovered that cells can be grown on beds of vertical silicon nanowires without apparent damage to the cells. The cells sink into the nanowires and within an hour are impaled by the tiny spikes. Even resting on this bed of needles, cells continue to grow and divide normally. This setup makes it possible to directly interface with the cell's interior through the nanowires. "Since we now have direct physical access, we can deliver molecules into cells without the restrictions of other techniques that are available," Park says. He adds that while his lab has found that many different types of cells seem to accommodate the tiny wires without negative effects, further studies will be needed to examine whether any important cell behaviors are affected.
To use the nanowires to deliver molecules, Park's team first treated them with a chemical that would allow molecules to bind relatively weakly to the surface of the nanowires, then coated the wires with a molecule or combination of molecules of interest. When cells are impaled on the nanowires, the molecules are released into the cells' interior. The chemical treatment of the wires could potentially be manipulated to control the binding and release of molecules--releasing them more slowly, for instance--and the wires can be constructed at different lengths to reach different parts of the cell. To demonstrate the method's flexibility, the team used the approach to deliver chemicals, small RNA molecules, DNA, and proteins into a range of cell types.
The beds of nanowires can be arranged on microarrays suitable for rapid experiments and imaging cells under a microscope. These microarrays can be "printed" with different patterns or combinations of molecules, making it possible to test many different molecules at once on an array of cells. The authors believe it could be possible to screen 20,000 different proteins or other chemicals on cells within a single microscopic slide.
...Thorsten Schlaeger, a stem-cell researcher at Children's Hospital Boston, is investigating the potential of the approach for reprogramming stem cells. His lab is interested in turning embryonic and induced pluripotent stem cells into blood stem cells like those found in the bone marrow. Currently, this task requires infecting cells with a virus to introduce new genes into their DNA, and, Schlaeger says, "there's no good alternative right now." Schlaeger's team is looking for better ways to manipulate cells, as well as ways to screen stem cells for factors that can transform them from one cell type to another. "It's hard to say what will be possible because it's new, but it's intriguing," he says._TechnologyReview
Early applications of the technology will include micro-arrays for high-throughput drug testing, and other rapid screening applications. But the technology virtually screams "rapid evolution"!
Imagine growing complex neural networks onto such test beds -- which are equipped to inject and extract both a wide range of molecular materials, but also various types of electromagnetic stimuli. The idea would be to grow entire cortical columns on a 3 dimensional implementation, then to connect the cultured cortical columns together one at a time -- all the while closely monitoring every aspect of the chemical, genetic, and electrophysiological functioning of the complex networks.
That is just the beginning. And what a simple idea.
Frances Kellor, Universalism, Particularism, and Culturism
Where do our historic Americanization movement and culturism fall within the spectrum of particularism and universalism? The answers are not so obvious and nearly counter-intuitive. Particularism says that cultural groups, such as the Jews, should focus on what makes them unique. Universalism holds that groups should find that which is common to all humanity within their cultures and basse their identity on those features. Clarifying this distinction is crucial in understanding our personal and national identities as well as our national policy.
Frances Kellor lead much of the Americanization movement which greeted the first wave of heavily contested immigration from 1906 to 1921. You could say that she advocated what might be termed a “multicultural nationalism.” During WW I, on the 4th of July, under the banner of ‘Americanization Day,’ she held loyalty parades. On that date, annually, hundreds of thousands of immigrants, in over 160 cities, marched in their native costumes to demonstrate their community’s loyalty to the United States and the allies. Thus, initially, one might see Kellor as the precursor to particularism.
Culturism defines itself as the opposite of multiculturalism. More specifically, culturism holds that majority cultures within a nation have the right to define, protect, and guide themselves. Most nations are culturist. Saudi Arabia guides itself on its principles according to its traditions and history; China does the same. Domestically, culturism parts with multiculturalism in saying that the West too has a particular culture and a right to protect, promote, and guide itself within its borders. Since this philosophy has a precept which gives the same right of sovereignty to all nations, people could nearly mistake it for a form of universalism.
The difference between Kellor’s vision of Americanization and culturism comes in the form of boundaries. Kellor, in fact, was pulling a trick. Her main technique of Americanization implemented John Dewey’s idea of melding citizens via democratic participation in reform efforts. Thus her curriculum called for community activism. And, if one read the details, nearly none of her Americanization curriculum concerned American history or the celebration of ethnic cultures. Kellor did not mind if you held on to your ethnic heritage. In point of fact, she did not care at all. Kellor, like Dewey, self-consciously sought to guide folks into the modern industrial age. She actually had a faith that all such differences would ultimately become insignificant.
Culturism, as the name denotes, takes culture seriously. The book, Culturism: A Word, A Value, Our Future, devotes two solid chapters to history. Its belief that the West has a core culture to protect, ties it to Europe. In an ultimate act of particularism, culturism holds that democracy, freedom of speech, the separation of church and state, and other such values are not universal, they are western. China’s government censors the internet as it sees fit, culturists do not assume that this nation’s ultimate desire is for democracy; this is a western political virtue. Culturism does not hold that Islam’s goals tend towards freedom of religion; this, again, is a western value. Thus culturism holds that international cultural particularism is not only important, but real.
Kellor’s Americanization ignored culture. In this it aligns with today’s multiculturalism. It considered culture ephemeral and reduced it trivia such as food, festivals, and fashion. Culturism, on the other hand, considers culture very significant. Culturists believe that cultural values can greatly influence economic and educational achievement, as well as the fate of nations. And so while Kellor’s Americanization movement would make no cultural distinctions in terms of immigration laws or which culture would be taught in schools, culturism would base its policies on the promotion of our particular western culture.
As schools of all nations, culturism holds that our schools must teach our heritage. Again, multiculturalism holds that we have no western core heritage. Our land is just a neutral space where various ephemerally distinct cultural groups play out universal values. Multicultural policy holds that if we emphasize our apparent-but-insignificant cultural diversity, we will arrive at universal agreement. Culturism, in taking values seriously, would expect cultures within our shores, if left to themselves and not taught the western historical narrative, may naturally turn anti-western. Thus culturism, possibly counter-intuitively, holds to particularism, and Kellor’s form of multiculturalism rests on the philosophy of universalism.
All of us, every single man, woman, and child on the face of the Earth were born with the same unalienable rights; to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. And, if the governments of the world can't get that through their thick skulls, then, regime change will be necessary.
“I’m quite confident that we’re going to rebel against this abusive government’
I think that we’re in a period today comparable to the American founding period in two senses: one, we’re worried about decay — we’re worried about whether we’re squandering our legacy and whether we’re calling into question whether people can really govern themselves — but also because, and this is the heartening part of this, today as never before in my lifetime, Americans have rekindled their interest in the founding era and the founding principles. Look at the wonderful sales of biographies of the founders: Washington, Hamilton, Jefferson, Madison. Look at the Tea Party, which I think frankly is one of the great events of my lifetime.
The American people go through life with a little crick of their necks from looking back at the past, and that’s healthy. We always relate to the Declaration and to the Constitution and here, along comes the Tea Party movement named after something that happened in 1773: the Boston Tea Party. And it’s called us back to reverence for, and understanding of, and insistence upon, the founding principles of limited government. So, in a good sense and a bad sense, I think we’re in the founding period.”

"An Islamic regime must be serious in every field," explained Ayatollah Khomeini. "There are no jokes in Islam. There is no humour in Islam. There is no fun in Islam."
"I want to be very, very clear, however: I understand and agree with the analysis of the problem. There is an imminent threat. It manifested itself on 9/11. It's real and grave. It is as serious a threat as Stalinism and National Socialism were. Let's not pretend it isn't." ~~~~~Bono~~~~~
