Sarah Palin's Crosshairs

I don't give a damn what Jane Fonda has said.

That map of crosshairs is going to be problematic now as Americans have gut reactions to Loughner's murderous shooting spree in Tucson.

Last spring, Congresswoman Giffords expressed concern about that map of crosshairs:

In my view, Palin's political career is now over, particularly a run for the White House.

(Pastorius cutting in) - An Anonymous commenter points out:

Palin used a surveyor’s map symbol unlike the DNC which used Bull’s Eye targets. The use of "targeted" language is part/parcel politics. To assume the use of drafting symbols on a map ends the political career of one politician while exonerating all others makes no sense.

Let's also not forget the recent calls to violence by Francis Piven and Van Jones . . .and of course the message from the messiah-in-chief himself.

Let me be clear.

I do know about all those contradictions and double standards.

But the mainstream media didn't cover those -- at least, not to any extent.

The fact that the mainstream media belong to the Left is going to be of great significance now.

This part of the debate is getting both stupid and disgusting. Palin had no more to do with motivating this guy than did Rush or President Obama or Michalle Bachman or Biden or the ghost of Mother Theresa possessing his soul.

Targeting, crosshairs, on our sights etc are all long part of the campaign discourse, standard fare. SO much so they are no longer hyperbole but boring cliches.

And as for If they bring a knife we'll bring a gun well, for fuck's sake, that's damn become near a rallying cry here at IBA. Possibly even a mantra.

This is stupid and a waste of time and energy on both sides.

Truth is there is only one person responsible for the tragedy and that is Jared Lee Louhgner.

We canot begin curbing our speech just because we're concerned it might set someone off. Outright threats are a different matter.

But you didn't see anyone make an attempt on Bush despite the Bush is a killer Bushitler etc all those years.

Loughner is responsible for his own actions. No one else. On either side.

The best thing we can do is move past this part very quickly and concetrate on bringing this shitbird to justice.

And Sheriff Dupnik needs to shut the fuck up. Right the fuck now.
