It's not simply the problem of parents or teachers, but a combination of both with a hefty dose of societal shift in priorities.

Back 30 to 40 years ago, political correctness and multiculturalism entered the classroom with a vengeance. Classes were dumbed down to support the 'self esteem' of lesser achieving students. We were sold a load of horse shit.

Graduates of this cauldron of PC/MC/Self Esteem brew are now the teachers and parents of the current generation. Even the graduates from the hills, those Jewish, Asian, Oriental grads . . .all sucked on the teet of PC/MC moral relativism in university. Would their parents have voted for the current resident in the oval office in 1962? 72? 82? even 92 or '02?
Doubt it.
That generation wasn't sufficiently tainted by the pc/mc moral relativism yet.
