Our Politicians And Media Commentors Are Passing And Smoking The Crack Pipe So That There Will Be Lies Between Us

Based on the discussion at this post here is a week by week chart, taken straight from the Bureau of Lies Damned Lies and Statistics, on how many lost their jobs each week since January 2010 (a year into Obama's Presidency and when it is no longer even feasible to blame Bush alone). I don't care whether you use the non-seasonally adjusted number (N.S.A.) or the "official" government number (S.A.). It's a damned bit more than 4,300,000 jobs created in 27 months.

But the situation is not as dire as some would say. And these poor people our hearts go out to them this is terrible blame Obama blame Europe Blame the Repubs and Dems and stop paying them unemployment they should just go out and get a job.

You bet.

Vote out the INCUMBENTS.

So, your point is the NSA or the SA numbers on the INITIAL CLAIMS adds up to 35+ million claims during the course of Obama's Admin., right?

That's big news, and now you have the chart to back it up.

Ace, Hot Air, and all the other blogs who usually cover these kinds of stats have all missed it.

When you have time, you ought to put this into one of your passionate rants and post it as a coherent post.

You've got a big idea here, imo.

midnight rider said...

Will do. It may be a little until I can get to it.

althugh I thought coherent and my rants were mutually exclusive :-)

Great find midnight, proves again they're just 'cooking the books' and using 'magic' or is it 'black magic'?

Oh.... one thing to be completely correct we should need to know how many new people joined the workforce and how many left (Old age retirement , disabilty..etc).

midnight rider said...

Will -- these numbers are people ho lost their jobs and were eligible to collect unemployment. That would rule out folks who quit retired went on disability lost their business or were fired for cause etc.

Those people would only ADD to these numbers if they were counted.

midnight rider said...

BTW, Pasto, I'm betting if/when I take/have the time to add the numbers it will be well in excess of 35 million. And that's just since Jan 2010. It does not include his first year in office at all.

But even so, 35 million people in 2-1/4 years. That's (very roughly) a turnover of 10 percent of the TOTAL U.S. POPULATION. In 2-1/4 years.

Pastorius said...

I'll add the numbers up for you, if you'd like.

Thing is, it is mind-boggling that we've lost 35+ million jobs. If that is true, and the media is not reporting it, then it is an Orwellian-level conspiracy.

midnight rider said...

Nope, I got 'em. And some of Bush's, too.

Using the "official" seasonally adjusted numbers (truth lies and fairy tales) from January 2010 until May of 2012 a whopping 52,274,000 people lost their jobs. I told you my estimate was conservative.

During the same tenure period for Bush (January 2002 to May 2004 -- his 2nd, 3rd and partial 4th years) 48,579,000 people lost their jobs.

But that was when we were well into 2 Mid_East wars.

And, during those time periods the HIGHEST unemployment rate for Bush was 6.3% in June 2003.

Obama's LOWEST was 8.2% in April of this year. His highest was 9.9% in April 2010. (stats from here).

If anyone bothered to look at the hard numbersthere would be no contest in November. Had they looked at them early enough Obama would not even be running for re-election.

Using their own numbers, if they laid them all on the table, they could not convincingly spin them away.

I hope to put a post together in the next day or so but Epa has it right in the post above. This nation "is headed for REAL TROUBLE.

Serious, in the streets, objections by the fiber of the nation."

And that's coming from one of those 40+ (ok, 50 now) males with families stalking the USA for jobs for over 2 years.

One bitter clinging motherfucker who's goddamned tired of the bullshit they're trying to make smell like a Rose Garden.

BTW, at the end of his term, from January 2006 until May 2008 Bush's economy lost 39,712,000 jobs. Then the crisis hit full bore and the hemoraghing began, losing 14,645,000 jobs in the next 6-1/2 motnhs for a total of 54,357,000 his last 3 years.

If the average holds true at 374K a week, then over the remaing 34 weeks (counting from 5/5/12 when these stats were last updated) -- and there is no reason to believe they won't -- then another 12,716,000 people will lose ther jobs by the end of the year, for a total of 64,990,000 (65 MILLION!)since January 2010, eclipsing Bush's 54,000,000 in his last 3 years.

Please pass the bong.

Pastorius said...

You know, I think I figured it out, MR.

People losing jobs is not the same as jobs lost from the economy.

Many people lose their jobs. Then they are replaced by another person. AND, they find another job.

No job lost.

Instead, there is just a transition, a moving around of labor within the labor force.

However, there is another story here;

I do not believe 16+ million people a year leave their jobs AND file for Unemployment.

I just don't believe that.

When you look at military budgets, there is a lot of money put into $3000 toilets and $5000 tires for jeeps (I'm making this shit up, but you know the kind of waste to which I am referring).

I've always kind of supposed that that is a way of hiding Black Ops money.

So, perhaps the question we should be asking here is,

what are they hiding in that 16+ million Unemployment claims per year?

Think about that.

Pastorius said...

Unless you really believe that 100 million people have lost their jobs in the last 6 years (three of Obama and three of Bush).

"People losing jobs is not the same as jobs lost from the economy."

I agree 100% and have always tried to use the correct phrasing when writing about it (folks lost their jobs vs jobs lost). It's called turnover. They're out for awhile then back in. Maybe they keep the job or are unlucky enough to land with a business not as stable as they thought and wind up out again a year or two later, which makes them first time claims for a second time.

As for the 16,000,000 a year that figure I can believe. The number is reported individually by the states to the fed for disemination.
On the link I provded you can, f so inclined, go back to the 70's with these numbers. I just looked at the Reagen years (without adding everything up) and in his first time (after Carter) he was consistently having 500K to 650K people lose their jobs PER WEEK. By his second term that number was nearly cut in half.

Part of it is turnover as you and I suggest. But not all of it. Not when you consider that the average length of unemployment is now 39+ weeks.

It's not the turnover that is bad as long as people are getting back to work quickly (3 or 4 months). And to meaningful (whatever that means to them) work. But that is not happening this time around as the long term numbers point out (I refer folks to Epa's post above on this). There is not that turnover this time. Folks are not getting back to wor and tus the horrendous underemployed and percent of folks in the workforce number.

Pastorius said...

There's something wrong with the numbers, or at least they are not very easy to sift through.

Maybe you have an idea how to do it.

I don't know.

midnight rider said...

Maybe. It used to be 25% of what I did at my old job.

Is there something I might explain better/differently?

Pastorius said...

Hell no.

To me, the information that is missing is, how many of those people transitioned to new jobs.

The problem I see is, if there are 16 million jobs lost in a year, and only 1.4 million jobs are created, that's a net loss of 14.6 million jobs a year.

Bush's numbers were THAT much better.

So, let's say he only had a net job loss of 6 million a year for the last three years of his Presidency; 18 million

Add 18 million to 14.6 times three and you get 63.8 million jobs lost from the American economy in the last 6 years.

I do not accept that that has happened.

That is one fifth of the population of America.

Not one fifth of the total workers, but one fifth of the total population.

If you broke it down, we'd have like 45% unemployment.

Or, is there another factor I'm not taking into account, MR?

midnight rider said...

I think you are mixing up the two yourself.

It's not 16 million jobs lost in a year. It's 16 million people who lost a job.

Some, many, found another. But that includes people who may have been mid-level managers and are now managing burger king. Investment bankers who are now working as security guards (I know one).

But how many went back to work is not a number I have been able to find, if it is even kept. Which I doubt because once you fall off unemployment (discouraged they call us) they no longer even look at you. How many found a job, however trivial, long after they fell off the rolls?

The number I am working with here is the number of people who lost a job, not the number of jobs lost (moved over seas, eliminated by outsourcing etc).

And in that case Obama has been horrendous (and Bush was no slacker at the end, either). Those folks losing jobs now are no longer taking 2 or 3 or 4 months to get re-employed. The average is 9 to 10 months to find a job. Any job. Some are out much much longer.

And the true un(der)employment rate is much higher than advertized but I think you agree with that just from the American Thinker post you put up a few days ago.

Pastorius said...

Alright, that's what I thought. But, then the problem is, you don't really have a way to find out how many people are unemployed at any particular time, do you?

Maybe you do.

Sure, you can look at it and say, 16 million people lost their jobs this year, and they are unemployed an average of 9 months, but can you get a total number unemployed at any given time out of that?

midnight rider said...

No. Not a reliable one I don't think. Best they can do is the surveys done or other guesstimates. But because they don't track you once you have fallen off u.c. benefits there is no way of telling how many of those finally find work and of what type.

This Breitbart post might add some perspective on it.

Pastorius said...

One way to look at it would be that 9 months is 3/4 of a year.

So, one could ESTIMATE that at any given time 3/4 of the 16 million people who go unemployed in a year ARE unemployed.

But, I don't think that is very accurate.

Epaminondas said...

There's something else as well, and there is no documentation possible ...

1)How many people went from skilled jobs to anything they could find?

2)How many are making less than 80% of what they were making before?

3)How many have MADE UP what they had to deplete during unemployment?

4)What would be the total capital NOT SPENT by all these people, and what is the effect of that?

Epaminondas said...

BY the way the WSJ had a VERY LARGE article a few months back about the problem is not the JOBS BEING LOST...it the JOBS MAKING MACHINE which had been lost.

I think there was a post in here about it

Indeed there was, good sir. Posted by you here

Hi Guys.

Early May i tried to get a view on the total unemployment in the US, but according to Midnight his numbers it might be even higher than what i calculated.

Anyway all these numbers made my head spin and i was wondering what's the actual population of America?

May 4, 2012 U.S. Population: 313,478,000.

The Census marks the under-18 population at 73.9 million on July 1, 2011.

73, 9 under working age + 100,570,000 million working age unemployed Americans = 174,470,00 Million that don't work.

313,478,000 U.S. population - 174,470,000 not working = 139,008,000 working people, this means that only 44 % of the population works.

You can't maintain social security, pensions , Gov admin with this kind of numbers.
