Raeef Elwishee from the WSJ demonstrating why it’s impossible to have a meaningful relationship and why John McCain is on a DANGEROUSLY naive fool’s errand in Egypt.
There is NOTHING we can achieve in Syria by backing Al Qaeda in order to be ‘against’ Assad. There is NOTHING we can do in Egypt except admire the broken dishes.
Arabs have accepted the idea now, that American policy in the ME has been to stimulate the Islamists to do what Islamists always do, in order to destroy the physical integrity of each nation one by one, so we can benefit Israel.
I hesitate to point out, that if we were THAT GOOD, no one would mess with us anywhere, and that the EXTREME ends of our effort have been instead to pick off 20-100 ISLAMISTS by risk free drone attacks.
But in the MIDDLE EAST, with ONE EXCEPTION, the people have little relation with the real causes of their difficulties, and are willing to believe things like we will flush Egypt (and all our efforts since the 70’s) down the toilet for the father of all terrorists so Israel can have the worthless pile of rocks the Sinai is, back again. In order to do WHAT with it? Build hotels? A golden calf amusement park?
If the American people understood this is the kind of view many of the people and a lot of the news media in the arab middle east accept and promulgate, then amid the moribund economy of part time MEANINGLESS jobs, the govt invasion of our daily lives, the evasion of truth in Libya, the snooping and political REPRESSION by money denial to opponents of Obama (and acquiescence of federal workers in that vein), is there anyone who thinks nearly EVERY american citizen being bombarded by rising bills of necessities, wouldn't cut the Egyptian aid off NOW.
Today?
