Ken Cuccinelli is a direct descendant of O’Donnell, Angle, Akin, and Mourdock, and Bachman lies not to far off. Sister in law.
You cannot win an election by saying ‘homosexual acts are wrong and our policy should reflect that’. It scares EVERY SINGLE minority, some - A LOT. When one minority sees another being singled out in any way, take it from me, one stops and thinks hard.
You cannot win an election by BLOCKING the ability of one spouse to unilaterally separate and divorce another.
You cannot win an election like this.
SCOLDING. Limiting our personal action. Because, ….what? You read somewhere, or were told that by doing this the society would be a better place? I know someone who thinks by MAKING ME and everyone else buy a certain product, the whole society will be better, and we will all save money in the aggregate.
Yet Cuccinelli ALMOST WON, DESPITE a Libertarian candidate who got 7% (and was getting financial support from Obama campaign organizers for obvious reasons).
That’s HOW SIGNIFICANTLY Obamacare appears to have affected the electorate.
Imagine if a person who did NOT BELIEVE in controlling your personal behavior was running. Imagine if it was one who advocated something like making Petersburg-Ft. Lee-Hopewell (where per capita income is 30% less than the state) into a (TAX) FREE TRADE ZONE, with international porting in Hopewell, where the James River (45 feet deep at that point) reaches out to the sea. Think that might have attracted low income voters if presented as a comprehensive answer to low employment and unemployment state wide? If presented as a means to INCREASE class mobility? If presented against a back ground of corporations who ALREADY COMMITTED to move into the trade zone?
NAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH.
Better to be a person who insists you get an agreement from your husband who might be unpleasant and you and your children are a little scared of to ALLOW you to separate and divorce, so he does not write a note to court which will legally keep you in the house. AYFKM?
THAT is an anti Tea Party ad I’d LOVE to author.
We make it too easy. The Republican party must have candidates and policy ideas which HELP people to HELP themselves. Policies which INCREASE the chances they can do better. Blabbing about the debt (no matter how true) will not get the voters you need to vote for you.
Ken Cuccinelli almost won despite truly obnoxious ideas of social control of personal behavior masquerading as ‘conservative’ ideals.
Another blown opportunity. How much less obnoxious do those who run alongside Obama seem, and are connected to him, when contrasted with people such as Cuccinelli?
The worst part is that the so called Republican governing group… Graham, Rove, McConnell et cetera, are worn out hags when it comes to a new path and a different consensus. Rove is a guy who will fine tune a new consensus message, not come up with one.
There is new blood in the senate and house. Lee, Ryan, McCarthy, Cantor, Johnson
There are good people in state government houses. Ohio. Indiana. Wisconsin. Kasich, Daniels, Walker, Jindal.
Let's HEAR FROM THEM. I don't want to hear scolding about behavior, it's a LOSER.
EVERY SINGLE TIME OUT

The Virginia gubernatorial results were closer than I expected.
If I'm not mistaken, the Dems did not take control of the Virginia Assembly.
Totally agree Epa.
Agree with Epa but government shutdown may have screwed up his chances even more.
I didn't follow the elections that well but from Epa's description Cuccinelli sounds like a freakin Imam. Is he Muslim? WTF is up with some of these "conservatives"
Another thing I would say is that anyone thinking of a "third party" as a solution should think again. A third party is only going to divide conservatives. If Sarvis hadn't reared his ugly head for these elections Cuccinelli would have won.
And yes Obamacare is horrible. Cuccinelli was down 12 points not too long ago. Republicans need to learn lessons from this.

It's not that he's an imam, it's that he has disqualified himself along the way by sponsoring laws and then backing them up which seek to control everyday activities of normal people for reasons of ...????
Normal opposition research reveals these frailties. It is inconceivable, or beyond irresponsible to hear that the R's didn't know, or tea activists didn't know. Really, I believe they were purposefully overlooked. But you cannot try to be faithful to the constitution and then try to control people that way.
'It is worse than hypocritical, it is a blunder.'
I agree with Epa to a large extent.
I must say, however, the media is largely responsible for taking the nuance out of conversations on social issues.
I do agree with Epa that it is not the government's place to be interfering with people's sexual behavior. But, it's also not the government's place to decide that boys should be able to pee in the presence of my daughter's while they are using girl's bathrooms, nor does the government IMO have a place telling me that it's ok to abort babies in the last trimester, and especially not after birth.
Thing is, these are nuance issues to a media hellbent on fucking up the morality of this nation.
I have come to believe that there absolutely is a Gramscian agenda to eat out the morality of America from the inside.
I wonder if you would disagree, Epa? It seems to me the evidence of the past five years would preclude your being able to deny it.
Rewind to late 19th century progressives. They knew everything.
Except of course, they knew everything WRONGLY. The working theory then was some cracked up scientific theory would create the brave new world. Enter Rosa the Red, and Gavrilo Pricip, and those pesky female voters.
Today the theory is that we can actually achieve an egalitarian equality by requiring it in law. We are watching the corollary, underlying, compulsorily items which the population must become acclimated to.
I'm not sure if this is a plan or more likely just the natural process working out to get to the end point.
But it doesn't matter because hte end point not only won't be America, or any nation worth fighting for, it will be a disaster.
No one will work more than the minimum if all the outcomes are flattening.
