It's interesting now to note that well before Rouhani was elected, while the execrable freak racist Ahmadinejad was the PM of Iran, Obama was holding secret negotiations with Iran.
Of course, Iran is behind Assad all the way. and I mean ALL THEY WAY. They have made up their minds to do whatever it takes in Syria.
So now we KNOW why Assad felt he could launch chemical attacks on his own people. There is no way we would back anything the Al Saud wanted over Obama's interest in his secret naivety and appeasement. There never was a red line. Well, that's not right, our red line was to do nothing to chance our negotiations with Iran.

Salim Idris, the top Syrian rebel commander supported by the West, was run out of his headquarters in northern Syria over the weekend and fled to Turkey and then Doha after Islamist fighters took over facilities run by Western-backed opposition, U.S. officials said Wednesday.

The Obama administration is still trying to determine the circumstances under which Islamist fighters in a group called the Islamic Front took over warehouses and offices belonged to the Supreme Military Council, or SMC, the moderate rebel umbrella group that coordinates U.S. aid distribution, officials said.
"He fled as a result of the Islamic Front taking over his headquarters," a senior U.S. official said.
The U.S. is urging Gen. Idris, who left Syria for Turkey then Doha over the weekend, to return to Syria, the officials said.
Two senior officials said the warehouses that were taken over by the Islamic Front appeared to contain a range of lethal and nonlethal equipment. The U.S. and Britain announced Wednesday that they were freezing the delivery of nonlethal equipment into northern Syria.
U.S. officials declined to comment on whether American weapons were in the warehouses. The Central Intelligence Agency has been providing small amounts of arms to handpicked moderate rebels. Gen. Idris also receives weapons from other countries, including Saudi Arabia.
The warehouses also housed American-supplied trucks and communications gear.
Officials said the takeover of the facilities by the Islamic Front was the latest sign that the Western-backed opposition was weakening while religious opponents of the regime gain strength.

So now, allied with Israel's and KSA's enemy, Iran, we allow 'our' guy to get steamrolled, ceding the ground to either our Shia freak racist non pal pals in from Qom, or the non pal pals of Al Qaeda, the sunni wahabbi freaks.
