Obama threatens vetoes of bills requiring him to follow the law
President Obama is threatening to veto a law that would allow Congress to sue him in federal courts for arbitrarily changing or refusing to enforce federal laws because it “violates the separation of powers” by encroaching on his presidential authority."[T]he power the bill purports to assign to Congress to sue the President over whether he has properly discharged his constitutional obligation to take care that the laws be faithfully executed exceeds constitutional limitations," the White House Office of Management and Budget said Wednesday in a statement of administration policy. “Congress may not assign such power to itself, nor may it assign to the courts the task of resolving such generalized political disputes.”
The Constitution DOES provide a means for enforcing on the president the mandate to follow and enforce the law.
No one is considering it.
But Obama, in my judgment, would be far wiser to allow this law to proceed thru process saying NOTHING, and if it actually passed the senate, allow it after 12 days to become law, then challenge it in SCOTUS. By the time this is resolved, he’ll be gone.
Instead he has amateurishly thrown down the gauntlet opening the door to all kinds of crazy stuff. There are liable to be SOME D’s thinking about both the next prez, and the nation, and then what? Especially if the D’s get SHELLACKED in Nov.
Obama has never really figured out how to work with Congress and the Senate. He just doesn’t like the job, and now, as his ‘mentor’ has said, the chickens have come home to roost.
