Pope Warns Of ISIS Danger Among The Refugees, Says He Is Not Immune From The Threat

Pope Francis on Monday warned that ISIS terrorists could sneak into Europe and even attack the Vatican by blending in with the huge wave of refugees fleeing war in Syria. 

“The truth is that just [250 miles] from Sicily there is an incredibly cruel terrorist group. So there is a danger of infiltration, this is true,” Francis told Portuguese broadcaster Radio Renascenca. 

In propaganda videos, ISIS has threatened Rome as the cradle of Western Christianity and vowed to plant the black flag of its self-declared caliphate on the roof of St. Peter’s Basilica. 

The militants have also killed thousands of Christians and other minorities they consider “infidels” under their harsh interpretation of Islamic law. 

The pope was asked if he thought that the Vatican and Rome were potential targets. 

”Yes, nobody said Rome would be immune to this threat. But you can take precautions,” he said, while urging European Catholics to help shelter refugees.
