Report: Anti-Trump Saudi Prince Alwaleed Hung Upside Down and Beaten by Interrogators in Saudi Arabia

Jeez, even I wouldn't recommend such a punishment for someone like John McCain.

If true, I find it highly immoral. Of course, I have always been opposed to torture in any form or fashion or used as a tool to achieve and objective.

I believe the torturer dehumanizes himself with his actions. And it is entirely possible that sadists are attracted to this line of work.

I think the historical record proves that torture can be effective at times.

It may have a mixed record on extracting information, but when used for purely punitive purposes I think it does have some value as a deterrent.

..... it would on me.

You know certain elements of American society are becoming increasingly violent, and showing less respect for law and order here recently.

I think that's at least party due to the fact that the American justice system lacks a pain inducing element. I'm not suggesting a full blown public quartering, but I think a solid ass-whipping on the way to jail or bi-monthly in our prisons would go a long way toward increasing overall public safety.

That's kinda the way it used to unofficially be around here, I hear.

Nowadays we are tasking our police with primarily providing a steady flow of income via fines, and steady employment for all the other members of the so called Justice System. Judges, Lawyers, Prison Guards, Bondsmen, Parole Officers all depend on steady flow of criminals for their incomes.

Thus the system is currently configured not to stop crime, but to recycle the criminals through the system over and over. Whereas more criminals equates to more BMWs for Lawyers.

I think if the Cops were allowed to just beat the repeat criminal's asses really good instead of being forced to politely process them into the "system", we'd all live in a safer, more courteous society.

..... same logic might apply to our international adversaries as well. Processing captured terrorists through our civilian or military justice systems is not having the desired effect. Maybe publicly torturing them and their Clerics would. If not at least I would feel better about it all.

Not to minimize any points made in the above comments, but I found this characterization most apropos:
Gives new meaning to "Sheik-down"

Can't help but wonder why are people surprised/shocked to discover the Saudi power structure would use torture to achieve their goals? Particularly those who are regular readers of this site. Sharia demands that it's followers apply any and all means necessary to achieve goals.

Barbarity is natural for this misogynistic, doctrinally driven society. Always has been...and so long as the doctrine exists and is perpetuated, so will the resultant barbarity. Full stop.

As for those who imply the coming transition to this new king (son) heralds moderating Islam within the Kingdom. . .I remain highly doubtful. The most recent example of how the devout factions react to moderation was in 1979 with the Juhayman's Siege of Mecca which was resolved with the promise to expand extremist Islam throughout the globe in order to retain control of Islam's holy places.
The next Juhayman will surface - demanding strict adherence to doctrine. You can take that prediction to the bank.

I am much less bothered by their use of torture than I am surprised they would use it against one of their own family. I am not aware of what they believe the man did wrong. If I understood, I probably would not be surprised.
