As shallow as this comment will sound...how crazy is it that this Deputy is identified with the name "Scott Peterson"...the same as the murderer serving a life sentence for killing multiple wives including one, Laci Peterson!
Also, some police departments train their officers to make a quick assessment and call for backup prior to moving in on suspect(s). Broward County Sheriff Israel suggests that is not his department's policy. ===>"When asked what the deputy should have done, Israel said: “Went in and addressed the killer. Killed the killer.”<===
The Sheriff viewed CCTV - no sound, only visuals. Did Peterson call in with his assessment?
===>"Peterson, 54, a resource officer at the school since 2009, resigned after Israel suspended him. Israel said two other officers have been placed on a restricted assignment pending an internal investigation relating the school shooting.

“They could have done more, they should have done more,” Israel said. “It’s a fluid investigation. They are on restrictive duty.”

As stated above by Pastorius, this sheriff has blood on his hands as well as all those involved in creating/implementing the 2013 guidelines/standing policy intentionally designed to ignore any criminal engagement with HS students. This is not a “mistake” on their part, the ‘doing nothing’ is part of the standard practice.
===>"♦ Secondly, the 27 minute tape-delay in the CCTV system is not an “accident”, “flaw” or “mistake”. It is entirely by design.

As a standard Broward and Miami-Dade practice, when school law enforcement need to cover-up or hide behavior, they need time (when that behavior happens) to delete the evidence trail. As such the school policy -as carried out in practice- is more efficient with a 30 minute tape delay affording the school officer enough time to deal with the situation, then erase the possibility of a recording of the unlawful activity surfacing."

A side note:
Having resided in Broward County during the early-mid 80's I have some minor familiarity with the area. Parkland was, at that time, a very exclusive community with large manicured and gated estates bordering the Everglades.

Yeah, apparently it still is. Just yesterday, I was talking with a man from Boca Raton , a man I do business with, and he told me it is just down the road from the very exclusive area he lives in.

His Grandkids go to a neighboring school, and they have family friends who lost children in this shooting.

Horrrible.

===>"Lastly, when the county education policy is intentionally constructed to ignore criminal behavior in schools, the Sheriff and School superintendent cannot rely on “law-and-order-minded” school police officers to carry out the heavily nuanced policy. The county officials need the people closest to the work, the officers, to be able to think quickly on their feet to safeguard their prized district-wide statistics."<===

Back in the mid-80's we were just starting our family. Both my spouse and I were employed in the computer industry near Fort Lauderdale beach and it's annual Spring break chaos. At that time, not a single co-worker had a child that actually graduated high school. The drop out rate in Broward County was hovering around 50%. Imagine living in the sunshine state, within easy distance of one of the world's most famous beaches and the allure of Spring Break to teenagers.
Another consideration was the fact that the region was heavily populated by 'snow-birds', retired folks who live in south Florida seasonally. These snow birds were a force to deal with when it came to adjusting taxes to meet the demands of growth, particularly in mixed generation neighborhoods. From my recollection - Parkland was not such an area as the homes were high maintenance and huge.
With a two year old and six month old ...we decided south Florida was not a sound place to raise our children and we moved north.

I forgot to highlight the point I was trying to make:
Quote: "...the county officials need the people closest to the work, the officers, to be able to think quickly on their feet to safeguard their prized district-wide statistics."

They looked the other way to safeguard a manipulated illusion

****
Also, fwiw....the 'spring break' moved away from Ft. Lauderdale years ago and moved north to Daytona - last I heard. Ft. Lauderdale reputation has since dropped to a 'rainbow' status since.

===>"Brandon Huff, a senior at the school, told the newspaper he saw Peterson standing outside the school talking on his radio during the shooting."<===

Perhaps this deputy was calling in for backup and waiting on response or was ordered to stand down.

Thank you for explaining that Anonymous.

Makes perfect sense.
