UPDATEDOhio: High School Senior Suspended for Refusing To Join The School Walk-Out Against Guns?

UPDATE:
The student did not opt for one of the choices the school mandated for students. The school was wrong to cancel classes because some students wanted to walkout.
Buried in the article: "On the night before his school’s walkout, Shoemaker told his father that he wasn’t sure about participating in the walkout, and that school officials were, in some respects, pressuring the students to pick a side. "
“The biggest problem, Dad, is that there shouldn’t be politics in the classroom … I may just sit in my seat. As far as I’m concerned, that’s the least intrusive of the choices I’ve been given,” he told his father, according to the Independent."

He was instructed to either join the protest or go to a study hall with others declining to join the protest.
He insisted on staying in the classroom and got suspended.
The real question here is why wasn't his taxpayer paid TEACHER not in the class they are being paid to teach in!
The issue is actually not JUST his suspension, it is that of taxpayer funded protests.

If what you say, cjk, is the truth (and I believe you are probably right) then, the kid is punished for protesting that his teachers walked out of class on taxpayers dime and I ADMIRE HIM EVEN MORE.

His reason for not wanting to go to either places was that he didn't want to be perceived as supporting either side of the issue. I completely understand his position and am appalled by the school personnel who demanded he either go to study hall or protest. The school was able to supervise the study hall and protests, but teach in the classroom........naaa.
