Massive fire tears through Rio's 200-year old National Museum

From the Daily Mail:
The 200-year-old museum houses artifacts from Egypt, Greco-Roman art and the first fossils found in Brazil
There is no word yet of the possible cause, nor if there were casualties or the exact extent of damage
Brazil's President, Michel Temer, described the destruction of the building as 'incalculable'

Good reason to remove historical objects from the 3rd world. If they aren't purposely destroying them as the Taliban did they just can't seem to keep them safe.

The fire is so massive, in what appears to be a stone structure, I wonder if it is arson and an accelerant was used? Either that, or state of the art active denial systems were not in place to deal with the fire. A basic sprinkler system was surely installed. ???

Very sad.

Yes, it looks like the entire place was engulfed in flames. How did that happen?

Looks like arson to me.

If not arson, an electrical fire, IMO.

I read in another, later, article that the museum had NO SPRINKLER SYSTEM.
