This is totally irrational. He's not even trying to sound as if he's "following the science" any longer. The airline representatives carefully and thoroughly explained why masks are unnecessary (and, even if not specifically stated, cause more harm than good in terms of passenger discomfort and violent incidents) but he has no rationale beyond "confined spaces".
Wearing masks forever presents as the depersonalization of mankind.
