What’s illustrative about ... the court cases launched against deportation efforts is that the media, Democrats, judges, and now Chief Justice Roberts are positioning themselves on the sides of not only illegal immigrants but criminals here illegally who’ve burned people to death, raped and murdered women and children, are involved in sex, weapons, and drug trafficking, and more criminal enterprises. The safety of American citizens is not their concern.
President Trump and others “overstepping” their bounds is what seemingly concerns Chief Justice Roberts the most.
“For more than two centuries, it has been established that impeachment is not an appropriate response to disagreement concerning a judicial decision. The normal appellate review process exists for that purpose,” Roberts said in a statement.
Trump allies have called for various judges to be impeached for blocking administration policies in the first months of his second term.
But Trump himself raised the stakes on Tuesday, when he called for the impeachment of U.S. District Judge James Boasberg after he blocked the deportation of Venezuelan migrants.
The question is, would Roberts have said anything if it was a Democrat President doing this? Given his past history, such as saving Obamacare or take a pass on religious freedom during Covid, I’d say the answer is no. More recently, he’s stayed silent on Joe Biden’s blatant statement that he’d ignore the Supreme Court’s ruling on student loans, and also just cannot find out who the culprit was who leaked the Dobbs decision! Furthermore, he’s not even stepped in and called a halt to judicial lawfare against Trump or American citizens.
Sean Davis makes a great point here.
“For more than two centuries, the question of whether to impeach judges has been left solely to the elected representatives of the American people. John Roberts has no say in the matter, regardless of how much he wishes otherwise. Our Constitution gives John Roberts no power whatsoever when it comes to judicial impeachment, and it certainly doesn’t give him the power to “reject” congressional impeachment when and if it comes. ”
Likewise this from Newt Gingrich:
If Chief Justice Roberts wants to minimize attacks on out of control appointed leftwing district court judges abusing their role and claiming to be able to overrule the elected President of the United States on management details that are clearly within his role as defined by the Constitution and the Federalist Papers then he should intervene and overrule these absurd power grabs. The Chief Justice can defend the Court by overruling bad judges before the Executive and Legislative Branches start acting against them. The burden is on the Chief Justice not the President.
What Justice Roberts is ALSO ignoring is that Judge Boasberg denied the DOJ any chance to respond or object before he issued his ruling over the weekend. That, it seems to me, is overstepping legal ethical bounds by a lot.
