We have the UN backwards, maybe they ARE effective

File this one under history comes full circle.
Very recently Der Spiegel pubished an illuminating poll.
45% of Germans think the USA is more dangerous than Iran. 28% feel the other way around. Germans have expressed this before, and ironically in a similar situation. Mr. Churchill was continually pounded upon for his statements as being a warmonger and endangering world peace. Of course by showing how weak England was and what it would lead to, and insisting that only strength could prevent a malignant power from doing just precisely what malignant powers do, he was forcing those who would rather just work, get the fish and chips and go home to face a dirty job, which was sliding towards them.

So it is today.
