So, the UN has decided to select Iran as the Vice-Chair of the United Nations Disarmament Commission (UNDC).
I'm not surprised. Hell, when it comes to the UN, nothing surprises me anymore. Before I continue my little rant, here are a couple of Senators thoughts:
Senator Coleman
“The election of Iran as a Vice-Chair of the U.N. Disarmament Commission at the same time as Iran clandestinely pursues its own nuclear ambitions provides yet another example of the U.N.’s inability to establish credible institutions to deal with global issues,” Coleman said. “Having the Iranians serve on this Commission is like asking the fox to guard the hens, and will only ensure its ineffectiveness. Clearly, the effort to implement reforms at the U.N. has not only stalled but utterly reversed course. Consequently, I urge the Administration to immediately begin withholding U.S. financial support for the U.N. Disarmament Commission to send an unmistakable signal that there will be serious consequences to the U.N.’s failure to implement real reform.”
Senator Frist
I condemn the recent selection of Iran to the Vice-Chairmanship of the U.N. Disarmament Commission. It’s completely unacceptable that Iran, which is pursuing nuclear weapons and widely recognized by the international community as a flagrant violator of non-proliferation agreements, should even be granted membership, let alone a leadership position, on the U.N.’s disarmament panel.
“For close to two decades, the Iranian regime has been covertly pursuing an illicit nuclear program. The Iranian nuclear program is a grave threat to the United States, our interests, and our friends and allies. Iran should not be permitted to serve on the U.N. Disarmament Commission at a time when the international community is seeking to end Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
“Last month, Iran, an egregious abuser of human rights, also announced its candidacy for the newly created U.N. Human Rights Council. These examples serve as additional reminders of why the U.N. is in need of serious reform. The United States has rightly decided not to participate in the new Human Rights Council. I urge the Administration to do the same with the U.N. Disarmament Commission and to refuse to fund either of these bodies.
“So long as corrupt and rogue regimes continue to use membership on U.N. bodies such as the Human Rights Council and Disarmament Commission to advance their own nefarious interests, the U.N. will never attain the credibility it needs to be an effective and accountable organization.”
I know, why don't we place prisoners on the parole board, let child molestors run our daycare centers? How about we allow criminals to not only represent themselves in court, but also be their own judge.
I mean really, what the hell is the difference! If we look to this corrupt organization to be the decision-maker regarding rouge regimes, evil, inhumane leaders and who's allowed to have nukes, why not spread the corruption around.
What country and/or group of people will need to be sacrificed, before something is REALLY done about Iran?

Do you ever feel as though you're surrounded by idiots? Our Leaders don't "get it" re: the UN, the borders, Islam, the Fifth Amendment (among others), energy. . .
Well, maybe we're like an alcoholic who has to hit bottom before waking up to the fact that there's a problem. I just hope we WILL wake up and not just die, never having known what killed us.
I still love this expression:
"At some point, our collective heads will come up out of the sand, probably propelled by the force of an explosion, and we'll stand, mouths agape like to many fish out of water, trying to comprehend a situation we've done our best to ignore."
The simple fact is we have become apathetic. For many people today, evil is in the form of crime and is limited to someone else's back yard.
They simply cannot fathom the type of evil that does exist in the world today. The type of evil that cannot be dealt with in a criminal manner. The type of evil that has been in existence since, well forever. The type of evil that in the past would have had an automatic war response.
Today, ignorance "appears" to be bliss.
As much as I hate to even comprehend it, some type of explosive force will more than likely be necessary to yank heads out of the sand. To wake people up to the fact that we truly are not in a "blissful" state.
