A Modest Aproposal

Below is a draft of what I hope will be a rousing success as our hand-out at tomorrow's Death Hippie Hate Fest in West Vancouver, Canada. Please feel free to offer lucid and pertinent criticism.

We'll discuss this and other topics of interest this evening at our weekly meeting at VPL from 7-9 in the atrium. You are welcome to join us.

Down with the Scurrilous Death Hippies of Red Fascist Dhimmitude.

Modern liberal societies are falling into states of fear and collapse under an onslaught of politically correct jihad. Social and personal freedoms are eroding daily as the Left and their proxies in the West determine our futures as objects of the state rather than as people free and independent.

Sentimentalist thought police range the nations searching for fuel to add to their fires of moral indignation, finding whatever they can to create light without heat, smoke without substance, and we wander in a timid and fearful tremble lest we fall into offense unknowing. Have we victimised someone? Are we guilty of something? Should we condemn someone to distract attention from ourselves?

Anti-American, anti-Semitic, hate-mongering "pacifists" - Mobilization Against War and Occupation (MAWO) Vancouver - whose website calls, among other things, for support of the Toronto 17 and for Canada's withdrawal from Afghanistan - is holding an event - the Hip Hop Festival Against War and Occupation - that has sponsorship from the City of Richmond and the District of West Vancouver as well as several other community and academic organizations.

A Vancouver Courier article states: MAWO is a coalition of over 50 endorsing organizations, most of which are labour unions, student groups, indigenous and women's organizations and Third World groups. It formed in October 2003 to mark the first anniversary of the anti-war movement against the American involvement in Iraq. Since then, MAWO has held demonstrations, organized talks and forums, hosted music events and organized an annual film festival each winter.

Fundraisers such as [this] summer's anti-war hip-hop festival help MAWO raise the necessary funds to keep the group going and help gain new members.

MAWO appears to be front organization for a group called Fire This Time. FTT have been accused of being thugs who intimidate their fellow leftists with violence. In fact, FTT openly advocates violence.

FTT website: [T]he arrest of the Toronto 17 has signaled that the war at home – a couple steps behind the war abroad – has entered its own "combat mission" against the democratic and human rights of oppressed people in Canada.

The Toronto 17, already found guilty of "terrorism" by the anti-Muslim smokescreen of the government of Canada and the mainstream media, represent something important for working, poor and oppressed people in Canada. The storm troopers of the right wing of Canadian politics are entering through the window of the arrest of the Toronto 17 into the homes of all Muslims in Canada.

NO TO ANTI-MUSLIM FEAR MONGERING! DEFEND THE TORONTO 17!

Under government driven racist and Islamophobic hysteria, the Toronto 17 do not stand a chance of a fair trial anywhere in Canada.

When our politicians use our money to finance fascism, it's time to say we've had enough of it. Peace, yes, but no more terrorism. No appeasement. No dhimmitude.

In a society where there is seen to be no right or wrong but only victims and oppressors, we are nagged to madness by self-righteous automatons of moralist cliches and received political idiocies. Only the most thoughtless and incapable delve into the cliches of this Left dhimmi fascism for sustenance and meaning, and yet they are legion.

Those few who think clearly for themselves are offended and outraged in turn by the group-think prevailing in our societies; and we are beginning at last to say no more appeasement of oppressors of thought free and independent. No dhimmitude.

Who are your audience/readership? Is it Mr and Mrs J. Public?

What easily-understood headline or introductory paragraph do you write to grab their attention by showing that it is relevant to them, before they bin your handout like the do with all the others, eg

'Terrorist hate cult wants to kill you and rape your children'

Extend beyond preaching to the choir. Maybe avoid unfamiliar terms that are OK in the Islamically-aware blogosphere but would perplex Joe and Josephine public.
eg
- Scurrilous Death Hippies of Red Fascist Dhimmitude.
- politically correct jihad
- Sentimentalist thought police

How about attention-grabbing bullet point phrases followed by short paragraphs of short sentences.

This single sentence is too long. Needs a header followed by a few short punchy sentences.

"Anti-American, anti-Semitic, hate-mongering "pacifists" - Mobilization Against War and Occupation (MAWO) Vancouver - whose website calls, among other things, for support of the Toronto 17 and for Canada's withdrawal from Afghanistan - is holding an event - the Hip Hop Festival Against War and Occupation - that has sponsorship from the City of Richmond and the District of West Vancouver as well as several other community and academic organizations"

How about
CANADIAN DEATH WISH? - THIS BUNCH OF MISFITS WANTS TO DESTROY THE COUNTRY THAT WE, OUR PARENTS AND GRANDPARENTS HAVE BUILT AND DEFENDED.
This 'enemy within' are destroying our ability to defend ourselves against the insidious death-cult of Islam. They are subverting ....etc

Passive grammatical constructions
"Social and personal freedoms are eroding daily" not a geological process, someone is doing it.

DEATH BY A THOUSAND CUTS
Muslims and Marxists, in an unholy alliance, are slowly but remorselessly chipping away at social and personal freedoms .....

RoP, thanks for the input. Let's find out more from readers here before tomorrow evening when we show up to confront the Death Hippies.

As I've noted before, I love your phrase "Death Hippies." But, I'm guessing that I may be one of the few who would get it. I've thought long and hard about Pacifism (because I used to be a kind of Pacifist myself) so I recognize it's sickness readily.

Religion of Pieces makes some good points, Dag.

When I am trying to write something in business, here are my rules of thumb.

Have three points made in iambic pentameter sentence structure, so that they are like chants and can be easily remembered.

Rop is right that attention grabbing headlines are important.

I remember in my speech class in college, my professor said Cicero's idea was you make a declarative statement, follow it with three points (arguments) and then a conclusion.

There is something very powerful there, i think.

OK, now we know. Each of you, and more on top, are all able to write better leaflets than I. So, the only question now is when will you do so and pass them out to people?

You have proven yourselves capable of doing a good job, but when will we see the results and read the reports of your successes?

Truepeers and I have come up with a new version for our planned assault on the Death Hippies tomorrow at Ambleside Park in the very affluent District of West Vancouver. We'll report back when we finish our compaign.

Not ot put too fine a point on it, some of these people are hard-core street fighters, brawlers who tangle with the police, thugs who revel in violence for its own sake. We are going to meet them face to face and stand up to them and the thousands who might attend as by-standers while we say no to the death-worship these fools indulge in. We do not expect others to make this kind of protest. We do this by choice, and we leave it to the common good sense of others to pick and choose the events and locations they would attend to pass out leaflets and blog addresses. Peers and I are going the distance on this one, and we cannot and do not expect other to follow us on this one. But theere are other events one can go to with certain safety, and you show that you can compose coherent and interesting pieces for the public. Do this even once and you'll see how easy it is and how safe.

None of us is so important that the jihadis will bother coming to look for us. We are into our seventh month of weekly meetings, and we have confronted violent and dangerous people in their own lairs and come out of it without a scratch. We take some chances, and we might at some point get hurt, but that does not mean others have to take chances. There are many if not most places and events that will not cause any more harm than scowls at worst from ageing and foolish hippies and ignorant children. Take a step toward freedom. Write you leaflets. Pass them out. You see for yourselves how well you can do so. We all see. Show us now what you do.

Oh, my sign is beautiful:

"Filibuster for Universal Modernity."

Hot, huh?

I like that Dag.

Thanks, mate. I think it'll be the fashion smash of the event this evening. I'm also wearing a Dior gown and Gucci shoes.
