Did Someone Say Internment?

The last few weeks have seen some amazing developments. Consider that all of the following have happened in recent days:

1. Jack Straw voices opinion on veils
2. Windsor villagers with torches and pitchforks
3. Church of England complaint about preferential treatment for Muslims
4. The Swedes elected a right-wing government
5. Belgian Right gather strength
6. Danes do cartoons again and air them on TV

And, if you aren't amazed enough, now the UK Metro Police Chief is talking about the possibility of Internment of Muslims:

Last week, the Metropolitan Police Commissioner addressed the Reform Club Media Group. Nothing like the ‘establishment’ sticking together is there? The meeting was conducted under Chatham House rules, which mean that no one attending is supposed to divulge what is said.

But one person present was so appalled at Sir Ian’s attitude and authoritarian stance that he has revealed to me an alarming - and seemingly off the cuff - remark made by Sir Ian at the event.

Sir Ian said the British people should ‘brace themselves for a truly appalling act of terror’. He said that following this act of barbarism ‘people would be talking quite openly about internment’, giving the impression that he would be leading the pro-internment lobby. No doubt he will find a willing supplicant in the tougher than tough Home Secretary John Reid.

My informant thought at first that it really was a throwaway remark but on reflection felt that it couldn’t have been made by accident. Well, either that or the Reform Club claret had loosened his tongue.

I haven’t even bothered to ring the Met Press Office because I know what they will say. But if this really is the stance Sir Ian is taking then we should be even more worried about our civil liberties than we already are. I’m now even more convinced that the Conservative stance against 90 days detention was right.

Charles at Little Green Footballs comments:

There are definitely civil liberties concerns in play; internment is very serious stuff, and we should all be concerned when it’s mentioned by government officials. But Sir Ian’s comment about the British public needing to brace themselves for “a truly appalling act of terror” suggests some terrible inside knowledge.

Indeed, what does he know that we don't? Or, rather, that the Brits don't? Are there any persistent rumors circulating across the pond?

Hopefully, some of our Brit friends will check in.

This is wonderful news.

The restoration of Judeo-Christian based Western Civilization has begun.

We will be successful.

I hope all this "activity" re the clash of civilizations results in something meaningful. A big rollback of the Islamists from Europe.

Anonymous,
Yes, this does show that we will be successful, because it shows that people are starting to think about solutions to the problem.

I don't profess to know, ultimately, what the solutions will be, but certainly, before we can make those decisions, we will have to put many ideas on the table.

Hey Felix,
Good to see you here. I am in agreement with you. If Muslims don't want to live in Infidel countries then we need to ask them to leave.

By the way, Felix, did you notice that people are discussing your "Declaration of a war against Islam" text over at LGF?

Internment... What a sweet word. Almost as sweet as Deportation.

Deportation and sequestration of their countries. We need us a real war, and not this dainty thing called a war on "terror".

He's maybe warning about a major terrorist attack because he realises that the police are essentially hamstrung in their anti-terror activities because they have to run their raids past a Muslim panel for approval.

Could this be the start of an extreme backlash against the Islamists?

I really wonder if the UK would go for internment, even after a terrible attack- afterall, we'd have to get approval from Brussels for the measure and it would nop doubt be against their Human Rights laws.

JayMac,
Is that true that England would have to get approval from Brusells?

Does England have to get approval from Brussels on every law they attempt to enact?
