In 1994 a Contract with America swept out a long term democratic dominance in Congress?

Conventional wisdom? Was it the James Dobsons, Pat Robertson, Falwellian revolution? The nutroot critical progressives claim that the 'christianists' have hijacked the government and have warped a religious right fascism out the whole project.

The religious right claim the nutroots are the godless traitors and secular abortionists.

Add to this the Foley debacle where a semi pedophile and at least sexual predator with no self control caused more repub stupidity and incompetence in leadership to be exposed, AND the continuing almost permament mistrust of americans with the democratic party over national security, and the first tuesday in November becomes anything can happen day.

But what is the electorate?
How did the great turnabout from FDR-HST-KENNEDY to REAGAN-BUSH-BUSH occur and why?
