I have been hearing an awful lot of pessimism and outright defeatism from people of late. These opinions are not being expressed by lefties. Lefties don't even acknowledge that we are in a war. No, instead this pessimism and defeatism is being expressed by people who understand what we are up against; a worldwide Jihad being waged by Muslim extremists.
Now, let's be honest. There are only two state actors in this war, Iran and Saudi Arabia. We may quibble and determine there are more, but, I think we can all agree, the state actors are not our concern. We are not worried that Iran is going to invade the United States, or any Western country for that matter.
We are worried about two possibilities, 1) that Islamic terrorists are going to pull off a large scale terrorist attack (nuclear, chemical, or biological) which will cripple the West, and 2) that the West will be outbred and flooded with Muslims.
So, we are concerned that individuals (not states) are going to successfully destroy the Western world. Think about that. Think about how stupid that is.
If individual idiots from the medieval world of Islamonazism have the potential to hurt the Western world badly, then why is it that we don't believe that individual infidels also have the ability to hurt the Muslim world badly? In fact, when it comes right down to it, why is it that we don't acknowledge the fact that we, as individuals have the ability to completely obliterate the Muslim world?
The reason we don't acknowledge this fact is because we are waiting for our leaders to do it for us. And, thus far, our leaders are not showing the determination needed to actually win this war.
But, how stupid is it that we are willing to live or die depending upon what our leaders decide to do for us. The Western project (that is the history of the Western world) has been dedicated towards greater freedom and greater individuality. We have learned that we the people can determine our own will, our own lives, our own government. We are the boss.
We need to stop thinking about how others are going to take care of our problems for us. Such a mindset is not American, and it is not adult, and it is not individualist, and ultimately, it is not Western.
We need to determine what we will do to win this war, if we are left to do it ourselves.

We are doing something important: educating our fellow citizens. The intellectual war is a major part of the effort. I haven’t given up on our fellow Americans (and Europeans, too.) Whether we are hit with the “big one” or not, we need to raise people’s awareness of the Islamic threat.
I’m all for supporting concrete military action but the more we learn about the enemy, the better we will able to fight wisely. We can all make contributions according to our unique talents. I believe we’re doing our part. I just wish there was inspiring political leadership to rally the nation around concrete measures.
You've nailed the reason this situation scares hell out of me when I lived through the entire Cold War hardly batting a lash. (And I lived through the part where we'd be rolled up in a ball on the cloakroom floor with our jackets over our heads.) During the CW I always "knew" that somewhere there were adults In Charge who knew what they were doing and understood that the Soviets were the Bad Guys and they had Big Weapons and that it was their job to keep them from using them on us. And most people, except for the real loonies on the Left, understood this as well.
Now, 5 years after an attack that would have killed tens of thousands had there been nukes involved, we've got a public that runs down to the bookstore every Tuesday to buy the Iraq War Book of the Week so they can be reassured that It's All Bush's Fault and America is the Real Danger in the World Today.
But I don't understand how this can be seen as just "individual Muslims" vs. us as individuals. There may not be the equivalent of a Nazi Germany yet, but the Islamofascists are trying to create a bloc that would be as dangerous. As for the outbreeding, it is going to take a massive effort to overcome those demographics. And before they can do that they have to really understand what's happening.
We're working to create awareness, but given what I see around me I doubt that the necessary level of awareness is going to be ignited by education alone. When the news of the first stirrings of civil war in Europe finally breaks through the MSM barrier, Americans may begin to pay attention. Another 9/11-type attack would have the same effect. But the point is that the level of denial and apathy is now so high that once again it is going to take something outrageous and violent from the Islamic side to wake people up. People have to come to an awareness that this may really impact the way we live in this country, the sort of lives their children will have. And they are oblivious to that now.
On that line I am going to re-post my "The Time Has Come" post at my site along with a link to the Gates of Vienna "The Emperor is Naked" post. Things are picking up.
BTW, if it comes to physical fighting, I really do admire this tactic in Windsor of the "baseball bats and pitchforks". You'd just get shot to death if you tried that in the US, but hey, it's a quite interesting tactic I think.
The greatest concern should be shown for the state actors. It is only their ability to provide financial support that allows the jihad to operate.
Well, there is a certain amount of credit that goes to facilitators, but the most important target is the original instigators.
We have to study them, but then also come up with a strategy for beating them. And that means understanding the difference between a democracy and a theocracy, and (the tough part) being confident enough to explain it to any Islamist that might ask.
