The perils of being perceived as a risk averse people and a risk averse nation

1: Strategist: Iran believes it could destroy Israel with a single nuke
2: U.S. signals Gulf allies that attack on Iran is possible this year

When the United States Senate Majority leader destroys the credibility of the officeholder of the only nationally elected office in time of war, we are in some peril as a result

Yesterday Harry "We just killed the Patriot Act" Reid told the world, INCORRECTLY, by the way, that the president has no lawful right to attack Iran without the legislative say so of congress.

WW2 began, not only because of appeasement, but because the strategic cultural error made by the Germans was the belief that the English and French would not fight over Poland, a nation unreachable, by their armies an a nation in which neither had any vital security or commercial interests.

Japan assumed that with the US Navy totally crippled, we would negotiate rather than fight a long brutal war, and for what?

Very few cataclysmic wars occur because both sides know and understand each other well, and understand the stakes and the costs, and say, 'it will be worth it, let's rock'.

I have gone on and on regarding how the talk, defeatism, incompetence, and plans of the democratic majority impinging on Iraq, and the single war it cuts across, decreases our security. I have questioned the analysis of experts like George Friedman of Stratfor, who simply seem unable to encompass the religious morale and moral force compelling Iran and the Hojatieh, and the salafist mass murderers.

Strategist: Iran believes it could destroy Israel with a single nuke

JERUSALEM — Iran's nuclear program seeks first-strike capability against Israel, a leading strategist said.

The Israeli strategist and former intelligence officer said Iran believes it could destroy the Jewish state with one nuclear weapon.

"Iranians believe that it holds, may hold, a first strike capability against Israel once it has a nuclear capability," said Shmuel Bar, director of studies at the Institute of Police and Strategy. Iran believes "that Israel is a one-bomb country, one bomb from the point-of-view of the receiving side; that the U.S. would not intervene against Iran under such conditions; and all of that with apocalyptic zeal may result in actual use of nuclear weapons," he said.

Bar, who for years worked in the Israeli intelligence community, told a conference on Jan. 9 that Iran was prepared to destroy Muslim cities as the price for firing nuclear missiles toward Israel. He said the ruling Islamic clergy would support a nuclear attack on Israel even at the risk of killing millions of Palestinian Muslims.

"They're developing weapons both as deterrents and that part of the Iranian regime — the more revolutionary part — has all of the components for developing a doctrine of use of nuclear weapons, as opposed to adoption of using nuclear weapons as deterrents," Bar said. "I think that it's a religious background which brings them to this sort of a doctrine."

Bar said Iran has studied the U.S. wars against the former Saddam Hussein regime in Iraq. The chief Iranian lesson was that only nuclear weapons could deter a U.S. attack.

"Nuclear weapons are strategic necessity for deterring the West and Israel and for achieving their strategic goals," Bar said. "Until they arrive at nuclear weapons, Iran's strategic deterrence must rely on terrorism and subversive potential."

Bar said Iran has scored its sole foreign success in the operation of the Hizbullah militia in Lebanon. Hizbullah lost 800 fighters in the war against Israel in the summer of 2006. Bar cited funerals in Lebanon for those termed "holy warriors."

"Whatever they may say, they lost somewhere around 800 men who we can account for," Bar said. "You count the funerals and the names, and you count the names of the people in the documents in south Lebanon."

If this is all true, then who can blame the state of Israel for taking all measures to destroy or delay Iran's ability to kill the jews,, worse still, they are but the little satan....we are the main target and the main enemy

Sharia In Britain

Thanks to Anonymous for leaving this link.) From the Cambridge News:

A SMOKER was refused cigarettes at a Cambridge store because the Muslim shop assistant said it was against her religion to sell tobacco.

A 31-year-old woman, who asked not to be identified, was shocked when she attempted to buy a pack of 20 cigarettes at the WH Smith store in Market Street and was turned down.

She said: "I asked for a pack of 20 Lambert & Butler and the woman behind the desk asked me if they were cigarettes.

"When I said they were she told me that it was against her religion to sell them - I couldn't believe my ears.

"I rang up the manager to complain and he said the shop assistant has to ask someone else to serve them for her if a customer wants tobacco.

"If she had just said, I can't serve you, then that would have been fair enough, but the thing that really annoyed me was the way she gave me a lecture as well.

"She started saying she doesn't agree with smoking, that it kills you - I was really gob-smacked."

When contacted by the News, the store's assistant manager, who refused to give her name, said: "It is true that Muslims can't sell cigarettes - I used to be Jehovah's Witness and I wouldn't on religious grounds either."

Asked why the store had someone who would not sell tobacco working behind the till, she said: "It is against the law to discriminate against people on religious grounds".

However, a leading Muslim denied the claim it was against Islam to sell tobacco, and said he had Muslim friends who smoke.

Asim Mumtaz, president of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association in Cambridge, said: "I don't think there is any basis for refusing to sell cigarettes.

"Islam, like most religions, is against anything that injures health or the body, but there is no ban on cigarettes or on smoking.

"The holy Koran is quite specific about intoxicants, alcohol and other drugs which cause a person to lose control are forbidden, but cigarettes are not forbidden so I am surprised by this."

Don't be surprised there Asim. I'm not a stupid infidel. It isn't about what's right and wrong. It's all about power. Muslims are being taught in their Mosques to resist the Infidel in any way they can. It's about subjugating us.

We are fools, if we allow it.

The Boar's Head Inn

A guy wrote to me yesterday and said that when he spent time in Bavaria he noticed that there was an almost unnatural emphasis put on pork. There were photos of pork, restaurants called Boar's Head, or Pig's Head, celebrations of sausage, etc.

He asked if it could be that this is a leftover from a time of Moorish incursions into Norther Europe. Could it be that the Infidels responded by doing what they believed would piss off the Muslims, and then, over time, as the threat subsided they simply carried on the tradition and forgot how it started?

I don't know history well enough to be able to say whether this may be true, or not. Does anyone else know?

Storm Track Intimidation: Muslim Sues To Use Quran For Court Oath

Corruption Chronicles, a judicial Watch blog, reported another incident of Muslims waging their non-violent jihad in America - in this case, litigation jihad.

A North Carolina appeals court has reversed a trial judge's decision to dismiss a Muslim woman's lawsuit demanding the Quran be used for courtroom oaths. The woman, Syidah Mateen, initially filed the lawsuit in 2005 because she was denied placing her hand on the Quran as a witness in a trial.

State law allows witnesses preparing to testify in court to take their oath by laying a hand on the Holy Bible, by saying "so help me God" without the use of a religious book or with an affirmation using no religious symbols. The options led a trial judge to dismiss the suit, determining that there was no actual controversy warranting litigation since the woman was not forced to use the Bible.

How will withdrawing from Iraq under the current set of circumstances, enhance the security of the people of the USA?

Chuck Hagel, Susan Collins, Ted Kennedy and Dennis Kucinich all have something in common. Not only are they against the 'surge' (which one can at least do on the basis that it sounds more like some marketing plan than something designed to change reality), but also they want us out if Iraq.

Of course everyone wants us out of Iraq, but they want us out of Iraq either immediately or with a fig leaf.

Chuck Hagel describes the surge as the most dangerous blunder in American foreign policy since Vietnam (sorry but that one goes to Jimmy Carter in Afghanistan in his trust of our adversaries). Dennis and Ted are somewhere in the vicinity of Michael Moore, and Ms. Collins who apparently simply wants to get off the tack she is sitting on, is slightly obfuscatory.
iraqi_mess_collage_FILM_GRAIN.jpg
Join them to the paleo-Buchananites who only this week called those who think democracy is a good idea for the world, "snake oil salesmen", and we have a picture of the new Vietnamese anti-war coalition who won the last election in the USA (of course there are far more reasons than that for the vote...like it's what happens every 6th year with a president who serves 2 terms).

However, I find myself wondering why the imperative of 'leaving' is never followed with questions, or an explanation of how leaving makes us safer.

Will the ginstu wielding freaks of Al Anbar be assuaged and rendered peaceful....or are they simply going to fire shots vertically from their AK's and rage impotently because, though having the intent to kill us, they lack the means.

Will Al Sadr be satisfied with his new puppet regime? Or will we see him grinning with Hassan Nasrallah and Mesbah Yazdi in a meeting planning how to ensure we have no American troops anywhere in the middle east, since the Al Saud, and the Gulf states can be intimidated over their treacherous and stomachless friends? Or is their view larger?

How to play mind games with stupid Germans

From Monday's issue of the newspaper Die Welt, one of the assumed strongholds of conservative journalism in Germany:
More Jokes about Muslims Please!
The Secretary General of the Central Council of Muslims [in Germany] wants to laugh at his fellow-Muslims more often. At WELT.de he criticizes how uptight German comedians and artists are, as soon as it's about Islam: One can very well make fun of a Muslim without hurting his dignity.

By Aiman A. Mazyek
[...]
I, too, would have liked to smile and laugh at Muslims. Is that not permitted? Who is prohibiting it? Maybe a Fatwa? A body of censors? Notabene, I am talking about laughing, not hurtful sneering at or dirty jokes about Islam. One can very well make fun of a Muslim without hurting his dignity or can't one? One can waffle about his putative flaws without besmirching his religion.
[...]
Granted, the narrow-minded and know-alls in our community will speak up and tell us in their repressed way that they don't understand a thing. They are not just suffering from a blatant deficit in humour but from their own belief as well, which they wish to live rather as stone-age Islam... the Islamic tradition knows many prominent examples, where one's own or the leg of somebody else is pulled. Thus, the Prophet Mohammed has often shown wit and mockery.
[...]

Without doubt! And specifically at the stonings (snicker), the amputations (giggle), the beheadings (chuckle) he attended.

Tho read the complete article go to Roncesvalles.

IHRC Trash

Upon searching for "undercover mosque" on google, my cross-post at IBA shows up as one of the first 10 links (out of over 90,000)!

I'm quite shocked at this. I would have bet that, at the very least, material on (the infamous!) Little Green Footballs and Michelle Malkin would have got higher rank than my post on this subject matter.

Anyway, among the top ten, we have this press release from the Islamic Human Rights Commission (IHRC).

The usual litany of accusations from being against gay rights and women’s rights, as well as accusations regarding support for jihad, Osamah bin Laden, the Taliban and Muslim world domination are ranged at various people within the film. This ‘standard’ is used exclusively for Muslims and exemplifies the problems of inherent Islamophobia and racism within the mainstream media.

Let's get something straight: Islam is not a race. Repeating the "racism" charge for the millionth time won't assign some magical racial or ethnic value to Islam. It's ultimately about the vile nature of Islam -- the cult, the ideology, the religion. Calling the critics "islamophobic" or "racists" won't change the ugly reality that Muslims (of numerous backgrounds) in the West are aiming to end Western Civilization.

Do note, the IHRC doesn't state that what the preachers uttered was morally wrong or factually incorrect. They're complaining that the MSM is being unfair by showing their odious views to the broader kafir public.

It's amazing: in addition to the explicit Undercover Mosque, the reaction to the programme by Muslim organizations is also very revealing.

Australian Media Is Beginning To Go After The "Uncovered Meat" Imam

Thanks to Anonymouse for making me aware of this piece from Australian Television.

Australian journalist Andrew Bolt comments:

". . .when people like him [Hilaly] are allowed to speak on behalf of the muslim community and the people who criticise him are damned as racist, then what you will get one day is a very ugly reaction . . .Cronulla times 10. The most critical thing now to do is for muslims themselves to look carefully at hilaly [as well as Feiz Mohammed] and if they really think he speaks for them and is only a victim - then the rest of Australians should think what is the place of islam in Australia.

"This is not ideology. It's a mental illness."

Omar Brooks AKA Abu IzzadeenDUBLIN, Ireland (CNN) -- At a recent debate over the battle for Islamic ideals in England, a British-born Muslim stood before the crowd and said Prophet Mohammed's message to nonbelievers is: "I come to slaughter all of you."

"We are the Muslims," said Omar Brooks, an extremist also known as Abu Izzadeen. "We drink the blood of the enemy, and we can face them anywhere. That is Islam and that is jihad."

Anjem Choudary, the public face of Islamist extremism in Britain, added that Muslims have no choice but to take the fight to the West.

"What are Muslims supposed to do when they are being killed in the streets in Afghanistan and Baghdad and Palestine? Do they not have the same rights to defend themselves? In war, people die. People don't make love; they kill each other," he said.

But in the same debate, held on the prestigious grounds of Dublin's Trinity College in October, many people in the crowd objected.

"These people, ladies and gentleman, have a good look at them. They actually believe if you kill women and children, you will go to heaven," said one young Muslim who waved his finger at the radicals.

"This is not ideology. It's a mental illness." [...]

Storm Track Infiltration: Jihad in America

I’m writing more and more about the different types of Jihads that we face in this struggle with Islamism.

· Cultural jihad
· Economic jihad
· Demographic jihad
· Litigation jihad
· Institutional jihad
· Financial jihad
· Media jihad
· Thugery jihad
· Criminal jihad

Now, a new book by Steven Emerson, Jihad Incorporated: A Guide to Militant Islam in the U.S.” puts some muscle and flesh to the bones of this theory. Robert Spencer of Jihad Watch reviews the book.

Are you aware of the al Qaeda plot to assassinate President Bush that was uncovered in 2005? Did you know that jihad terrorists in the U.S. financed the 1993 World Trade Center bombing partially through the sale of counterfeit T-shirts? Did you know that a professor at the University of South Florida in the 1990s was one of the international leaders of the terrorist group Palestinian Islamic Jihad and that he used his university activities as a cover while he raised money, gained recruits and disseminated propaganda for the jihad group? Had you heard that in May 2003, an American citizen living in Ohio pled guilty to conducting surveillance of the Brooklyn Bridge and other potential targets for al Qaeda?

These were not isolated incidents. In fact, they are just a few of the known activities of a huge jihad network that still operates in the United States, but of which few Americans are aware……..in his book [he] lays out evidence that jihadists are pursuing their goal of Islamic supremacism in myriad ways in America today, including through “advocacy groups, an array of disingenuous charities and foundations, corporate financing networks, and the halls of academia.” He and the staffers of his Investigative Project on Terrorism explain how al Qaeda continues to operate on our soil even after 9/11, how its operational strategy has evolved since then, and the extent of its American network.

We Arrested the Main Aide to Mookie Sadr today..

Jan 19, 8:26 AM (ET) By KIM GAMEL

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - U.S. and Iraqi forces arrested one of Muqtada al-Sadr's top aides Friday in Baghdad, his office said, as pressure increased on the radical Shiite cleric's militia ahead of a planned security crackdown in the capital.Al-Sadr said in an interview with an Italian newspaper published Friday that the crackdown had already begun and that 400 of his men had been arrested. La Repubblica also quoted him as saying he fears for his life and stays constantly on the move. The raid came as Defense Secretary Robert Gates began his second trip to Iraq in less than a month, arriving in the southern city of Basra to consult with British and other allied commanders.Sheik Abdul-Hadi al-Darraji, al-Sadr's media director in Baghdad, was captured and his personal guard was killed, according to another senior al-Sadr aide."We strongly condemn this cowardly act," said Sheik Abdul-Zahra al-Suweiadi.The U.S. military said special Iraqi army forces operating with coalition advisers captured a high-level, illegal armed group leader in Baladiyat, an eastern neighborhood near al-Sadr's stronghold. It did not identify the detainee, but said two other suspects were detained by Iraqi forces for further questioning.Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has pledged to crack down on Shiite militias as well as Sunni insurgents in a planned security operation. His reluctance to confront the Mahdi Army of al-Sadr, his political backer, has led to the failure of previous efforts to stem sectarian violence in Baghdad. In the interview with La Repubblica, al-Sadr said his militias would not fight back during the Muslim holy month of Muharram, saying it was against the faith to kill at that time.

"Let them kill us. For a true believer there is no better moment than this to die: Heaven is ensured," he was quoted as saying. "After Muharram, we'll see." The Muharram starts Friday for Sunnis and Saturday for Shiites.Al-Sadr said he is being targeted."For this reason, I have moved my family to a secure location. I even have had a will drawn up, and I move continuously in a way that only few can know where I am," he was quoted as saying by Repubblica.Militia commanders have said the Shiite prime minister has stopped protecting the fighters under pressure from Washington and have described pinpoint raids in which at least five top commanders of similar standing were captured or killed in recent months. The U.S. military accused the main suspect captured Friday of having ties with the commanders of so-called death squads, which have been blamed for many of the killings that have left dozens of bodies, often showing signs of torture, on the streets of Baghdad. The suspect was detained "based on credible intelligence that he is the leader of illegal armed group punishment committee activity, involving the organized kidnapping, torture and murder of Iraqi civilians," according to the military statement. It also said he was reportedly involved in the assassination of numerous Iraqi security forces and government officials."The suspect allegedly leads various illegal armed group operations and is affiliated with illegal armed group cells targeting Iraqi civilians for sectarian attacks and violence," the statement read, adding he was believed to be affiliated with Baghdad death squad commanders, including Abu Diraa, a Shiite militia leader who has gained a reputation for his brutality.

Al-Suweiadi did not give more details, but another official in al-Sadr's office said al-Darraji was captured during a 2 a.m. raid on a mosque in Baladiyat, less than a mile from a U.S. base. The official and an Iraqi police officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of security concerns, also said one of the mosque's guards was killed in a firefight during the raid that damaged the mosque walls, while four other people who were with the sheik were arrested.Abdul-Razzaq al-Nidawi, an al-Sadr aide in the Shiite holy city of Najaf, demanded that al-Darraji and other detainees from the cleric's movement, be released and called for demonstrations after the weekly Friday prayer services."America is playing with fire and our patience is beginning to fade," he said. "This savage barbarian act will not pass peacefully."

Gates, who met earlier with the leaders of Saudi Arabia and Qatar, said they had expressed concern about whether al-Maliki can deliver on his promises to rein in the violence and "quite frankly, these are reservations that have been expressed in Washington, and we will be watching."Highlighting the challenges, a rocket struck a British military base late Thursday in Basra, wounding six soldiers, spokeswoman Capt. Katie Brown said, hours before Gates arrived.British military spokesman Maj. Chris Ormond-King told reporters that no "hard evidence" had been obtained of Iranian arms, money or weapons technology entering southern Iraq, but he added, "As a gut feeling we know there is Iranian influence" here. The predominantly Shiite Muslim areas of southern Iraq have historic ties to Iran, which is a predominantly Shiite nation. The Bush administration has accused Iran of meddling in Iraqi affairs and contributing technology and bomb-making materials for insurgents to use against U.S. and Iraqi security forces.

Ormond-King, also said it was possible that Basra province, which includes the city of the same name, could be turned over to full Iraqi government control by this spring. He said there is no firm timetable. Basra is Iraq's second-largest city after Baghdad.Britain, which has the largest troop contingent among the U.S. allies, with about 7,000 soldiers in the Basra area, is planning to withdraw a large portion of them this year.A roadside bomb killed one U.S. soldier and wounded three others in an attack against a patrol that was escorting a convoy in northwestern Baghdad, the military said Friday.U.S. and Iraqi forces are gearing up for a major neighborhood-by-neighborhood sweep to quell the spiraling violence in the capital.
At least 3,030 members of the U.S. military have died since the Iraq war started in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count.

Associated Press writers Qais al-Bashir and Bassem Mroue in Baghdad contributed to this report.

Can you say "Fox -- Henhouse"?

The Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Council of Resistance of Iran report at their website:
Mullahs’ regime announces it will soon carry out limb amputations in Iran
Thursday, 11 January 2007

NCRI - The chief of the regime’s judiciary in the western city of Kermanshah, Allah-Yar Malik-Shahi yesterday said, “Soon there will be a number of limb amputations in public in connection with robberies in [Kermanshah] Province.” (Official news agency IRNA, January 10, 2007)

He said, “The judiciary will cut off the hand which steals people’s properties in order to serve as a lesson for others… Carrying out several sentences in public will greatly decrease such crimes in society.”

The medieval regime has resorted to extreme measurers, such as limb amputation, eye gouging, flogging, and the degrading punishment of parading prisoners around towns, to combat the rising tide of popular uprisings and demonstrations in various provinces across Iran.

The Iranian Resistance calls on all international human rights organizations to condemn the medieval regime’s punishments and take urgent action to stop the barbaric and systematic violations of human rights in Iran.

He Preached In Peoria

Photo from Fox News
Remember this story, "Undercover at the Mosques," and these videos? I posted the story here in "Not To Worry. It Can't Be Happening Here."

Now comes on January 18, 2007, this report from Fox News, via Jihad Watch. Excerpt:

NEW YORK — A New Jersey-born Muslim cleric with links to a suspected Al Qaeda operative who surfaced at a college not far from the cleric's Peoria, Ill., mosque the day before the Sept. 11 attacks has found a new home.

The imam now is spewing his message of hate to a growing group of followers at a mosque in Birmingham, England.

His target: the United States, the United Kingdom, Christians and Jews.

Abu Usamah at-Thahabi, who preached at the Islamic Center of Peoria in 2001, is the subject of a British news documentary that revealed Monday how he regularly exhorts worshippers at the Green Lane Masjid, or mosque, in Birmingham to hate Westerners...

What use is the JDAM if there is no GPS satellite?

Chinese missile destroys satellite in space

china_antisat.jpg
The prospect of "Star Wars" between China and the West loomed last night after Beijing used a ballistic missile to destroy a satellite in space.

The missile, which hit a 4ft-wide obsolete Chinese weather satellite 530 miles above the Earth, is thought to have been launched from the Xichang space centre in China's Sichuan province.

It suggests that the Chinese have developed a major new capability that underscores the communist regime's desire to use its military might as well as burgeoning economic power to expand its influence.
"The US believes China's development and testing of such weapons is inconsistent with the spirit of co-operation that both countries aspire to in the civil space area," said Gordon Johndroe, spokes-man for the US National Security Council, yesterday. "We and other countries have expressed our concern regarding this action to the Chinese."

It is understood that Australia and Canada have also protested to China.

Now if we did this the headlines would be filled with objections about the US bringing offensive weapons to space. Just think of the hideous headlines when we began testing anti-missile missiles.

The ability to destroy satellites with such precision could undermine the US National Missile Defence programme, a network of rocket interceptors, computers and satellites intended to protect America and its key allies from nuclear attack. It became known as "Son of Star Wars" after President Ronald Reagan's so-called "Star Wars" programme proposed in the 1980s.

There's way more.....read more and ask yourself how long will it be until the US tries to develop a way to identify such a launch, and shoot down THAT missile before it can destroy american communications, or geo positioning navigation sateliites, or ICBM LAUNCH EARLY WARNING satellite.

Developing the same kind of weapon is no deterrent, since the Chinese do not have satellite dependent defenses (yet)..

Australia's Leading Imam, Sheik al-Hilali, Speaks Out About His Country

After watching British Channel 4 TV's Dispatches-- Undercover Mosque program, many people were quite upset about the preaching of hatred that goes on in mosques in the U.K.-- as well as how many in the government and the media defend some of these Imams as 'moderates'.

Of course this type of incitement goes on in many mosques in other countries around the globe.

In a video shown on Egyptian TV, Australia's leading cleric Sheik al-Hilali discusses his views of the kaffir, Muslims...and their roles in Australia.

UFO's In Iran?

I'm generally not very interested in UFO stories, but one has to wonder what the explanation is for this story:

Last week Iran's Fars News reported that a massive "UFO" smashed into the Barez Mountains of central Iran and caused a massive explosion so big that it was witnessed by people from several cities, 100 kilometers north of the capital city of Kerman!Today, there are reports of another UFO hovering over Western Iran!

After the UFO blast last week in the mountains of central Iran witnessed by citizens from 7 cities, comes the news today of another UFO spotted in the vicinity of Bouyer Ahmad in western Iran.Fars News reports:

TEHRAN (Fars News Agency)- A radiant unidentified flying object was observed in the sky of Central Sepidar in the vicinity of Bouyer Ahmad in western Iran at 19:00 hours local time (15:30 GMT) Monday.

Witnesses told FNA that the object has been observed for one complete hour while moving southwards. In a similar incident last Wednesday, an Unidentified Flying Object crashed in Barrez Mounts in the central province of Kerman.

Deputy Governor General of Kerman province Abulghassem Nasrollahi told FNA that the crash, which was followed by an explosion and a thick spiral of smoke, has caused no casualties or damage to properties. He further denied earlier reports that the explosion has been the result of a plane or chopper crash, reminding that all the passing aircrafts have been reported as sound and safe.

The official further stated that investigations were underway by police and other relevant authorities in this regard. While other reports spoke of meteors, Nasrollahi said there were no conclusive witnesses in that regard, yet he did not dismiss the possibility that the crash has been caused by a meteor. Eye-witnesses assured that the explosion has been caused as a result of the crash of a radiant unidentified flying object onto the ground.

Kamangir also has a map of the nuclear facilities in Iran in relation to the "UFO" blast from last week.

Hat Tip Frieda**

You don't supppose this is related to the report by Iranian authorities that a US army spy plane was shot down crossing the border?

The Strange Case Of The BNP Ballerina

From the London Times with thanks to Religion of Pieces:

One of the strangest things about political activists is that they so rarely understand freedom, the very thing they think they are fighting for. Everyone in this country, even a sugar plum fairy, is entitled to freedom of thought and of speech under the law, but there are countless high-minded activists who do not think so. So it was that a group of Unite Against Fascism activists fetched up at the Coliseum in London on Friday afternoon to demonstrate against the fascist fairy, the “BNP ballerina” Simone Clarke.

She is an exceptional dancer who finds herself at the middle of an even more exceptional political drama. Having danced the role of the Sugar Plum Fairy in the Nutcracker over the Christmas season, she was soon afterwards exposed as a member of the British National party. On Friday she appeared on stage for the first time since the revelation of her political views in the role of Giselle, only to be booed and hissed by UAF agitators outside the theatre and even inside from the stalls.

“The principal ballerina is a BNP member,” they cried, before they were removed. “No fascism in the arts.” Clarke bravely danced on, however, like a real trouper, smiling throughout; I suppose ballerinas are used to smiling through pain. She was supported in her ordeal, whether she knew it or not, by a bizarre group of champions — 25 members of the BNP, including some of its top brass, and not perhaps your average balletomanes.

What the UAF activists are trying to achieve is to get Clarke sacked. The English National Ballet has resisted very properly; it has refused to comment on its principal dancer’s opinions, saying her views do not represent the ENB’s views, which in any case does not express any political view. The ENB is in a difficult position though, because it receives £6m of public money each year from the Arts Council, and this can and will be used by activists to put pressure on the company to distance itself from Clarke.

This is a strange story in every way. Despite her fear of mass immigration, Clarke has an immigrant boyfriend of Chinese-Cuban descent, also a dancer; there is a hint of inconsistency here surely, and the BNP certainly finds it a touch embarrassing. And then the protesters in the street, who say that ethnic English people’s fear of immigration is nothing but irrational racism, rather undermined their own case by shouting “We are Muslim, black and Jew, there are many more of us than you” — by this threat confirming that a fear of mass immigration is not merely irrational racism. Brilliant.

All these big bold men lined up against a single rather underweight woman; it is not an edifying spectacle. If only they had the intellectual modesty that she has shown. Explaining to a newspaper that she’d been drawn to the BNP by watching the news and by their manifesto, she said: “I am not too proud to say that a lot of it went over my head, but some of the things they mentioned were things I think about all the time, mainly mass immigration, crime and increased taxes.” The world might be a better place if more people were not too proud to admit that things are complex and difficult to understand.

It is clearly too difficult for Friday’s activists to understand that free speech is indivisible. Perhaps they have forgotten the McCarthy era in America, when performing artists, particularly in Hollywood, were outed, sacked and ruined for their pro-communist views (real or alleged). That was entirely wrong, I hardly need say. But there are plenty of people, including me, who think that pro-Trotsky, pro-Stalin, pro-Mao communism, and all kinds of views expressed by people in the arts to this day, are hateful and despicable, and, I think, a great deal worse than the BNP.

That has never prompted real lovers of freedom to try to silence them; real lovers of freedom accept that to repress one hated view is as bad as repressing its opposite. It will only strengthen the hated view; by contrast the openness of freedom will weaken it, if it is wrong, as the heroic JS Mill so eloquently argued.

Grassroot Institute Fisks Senator Akaka

The Grassroot Institute of Hawaii provides some corrections to Sen. Akaka's lies and half-truths. Hawaii Reporter has posted Sen. Akaka's speech to the Senate introducing the Akaka Bill. The corrected version follows:

SEN. AKAKA: Mr. President, I rise today with the senior Senator from Hawai'i to introduce the Native Hawaiian Government Reorganization Act of 2007. This bill which is of great importance to the people of Hawai'i, establishes a process to extend the federal policy of self-governance and self-determination to Hawaii's indigenous people. The bill provides parity in federal policies that empower our country's other indigenous peoples, American Indians and Alaska Natives, to participate in a government-to-government relationship with the United States.

Correction: No other indigenous group in the United States has ever been given the opportunity to create a race-based government out of thin air. The Akaka Bill is equivalent to giving special rights and privileges to every person with even the smallest amount of Native American ancestry to become a part of some super-tribe that has no historical precedent.

Mr. President, January 17, 2007, commemorates the 114th anniversary of Hawai'i's beloved Queen Liliuokalani being deposed. Although this event may seem like a distant memory, it is a poignant event that expedited the decline of a proud and self-governing people. The overthrow facilitated Native Hawaiians being disenfranchised from not only their culture and land, but from their way of life. Native Hawaiians had to endure the forced imprisonment of their Queen and witness the deterioration and near eradication of their culture and tradition in their own homeland at the hands of foreigners committed exclusively to propagating Western values and conventions.

Correction: Queen Liliuokalani reigned over the entire multiracial Hawaiian Kingdom, not just Native Hawaiians. By 1890, Native Hawaiians were a minority in the Kingdom, and to assert that they were a "self-governing" racial group distorts the idea of what "self" was. Hawaii people of all races were self-governing during the Hawaiian Kingdom period, and continue to be so today in the State of Hawaii.

Regarding any disenfranchisement from "culture and land", the westernization of the Hawaiian Kingdom began very early in its history, punctuated by seminal events such the destruction of the old kapu religion by King Liholiho Kamehameha II and regent Queen Kaahumanu in 1819, the arrival of missionaries in 1820, the
first constitution of 1840 and the Great Mahele in 1848. Liliuokalani herself was educated by missionaries, and was very much a product of adaptation beyond the ancient traditions of the islands. The entire Hawaiian island chain was unified with the help of John Young, a british sailor and advisor to Kamehameha the Great. To characterize the propagation of Western values and conventions as anything but voluntary is misleading. Contrary to what Senator Akaka implies, most of the big cultural changes had already taken place decades before the monarchy was overthrown.

It is also important to note that the Queen was not imprisoned until two years after the revolution that overthrew her. She was imprisoned because she conspired with Robert Wilcox in an attempted counter-revolution in 1895. The evidence against her included guns and bombs hidden in the flower bed of her private home at Washington Place, plus documents she had already signed appointing cabinet ministers and department heads to the new government she expected to head.

Today I provide my colleagues with a framework to understand the need for this legislation by briefly reviewing (1) Hawai'i's past, ancient Hawaiian society prior to Western contact, (2) Hawai'i's present, the far reaching consequences of the overthrow, and (3) Hawai'i's future.

HAWAI'I'S PAST

Few know that Hawai'i was originally settled by Polynesian voyagers arriving as early as 300 A.D, who braved immense distances guided by their extensive knowledge of navigation and understanding of the marine environment. Isolation followed the era of long voyages, enabling Native Hawaiians to develop distinct political, economic, and social structures which were mutually supportive. As stewards of the land and sea, Native Hawaiians were intimately linked to the environment and took cautious care in developing intricate methods of agriculture, aquaculture, navigation and irrigation.

Comment: Of interesting note is the environmental damage done by Native Hawaiians in regards to the once plentiful sandalwood forests of Hawaii. During the initial phases of contact, the rigid hierarchy of chiefdoms allowed the elite of the islands to exploit the commoners, to trade sandalwood for western trinkets. To place ancient Hawaiians on some sort of pedestal of environmental wisdom is sugar-coating history. As with all humans, ancient Hawaiians negatively impacted their surroundings.

HAWAI'I"S PRESENT

With an influx of foreigners into Hawai'i, Native Hawaiian populations plummeted due to the lack of immunity to common Western diseases. Those that survived witnessed foreign interest and involvement in their government grow until Queen Liliuokalani was forced by American citizens to abdicate her right to the throne.

Correction: A majority of the 13-member Committee of Safety (leaders who organized the Hawaiian revolution) were native-born or naturalized subjects of the Kingdom. Furthermore, many of the revolution's political leaders and militia-men had no American ancestry. In 1893, President Grover Cleveland's "fact finder" to Hawai'i, James H. Blount, wrote in his report that the 5,500 members of Honolulu's Annexation Club at that time included 1,218 Americans (22 percent of the club); 1,022 Native Hawaiians (19 percent); 251 Englishmen (5 percent); 2,261 Portuguese (41 percent); 69 Norwegians (1 percent); 351 Germans (6 percent), along with 328 persons unclassified but making up the balance.

This devastated the Native Hawaiian people, forever tainting the waters of their identity and tattering the very fabric of their society. For some this injustice, this wound has never healed, manifesting itself in a sense of inferiority and hopelessness leaving many Native Hawaiians at the lowest levels of achievement by all social and economic measures.

Comment: Queen Liliuokalani herself, arguably the most wounded of all, found peace and healing. She eventually saw the annexation of Hawaii to the United States as the best thing that ever happened to the Native Hawaiians. She was a true American patriot before her death, giving orders that the U.S. flag should fly permanently over her residence at Washington Place in honor of Hawaiians lost in U.S. military service in World War I. [The U.S. flag still flies there today]

Mr. President, 14 years ago the United States enacted the Apology Resolution (P.L.103-150), which acknowledged the 100th anniversary of the overthrow of the Kingdom of Hawai'i in which the United States offered an apology to Native Hawaiians and declared its policy to support reconciliation efforts. This is a landmark declaration for it recognizes not only are Native Hawaiians the indigenous people of Hawai'i, but of the urgent need for the U.S. to actively engage in reconciliation efforts. This acknowledgement played a crucial role in initiating a healing process and although progress has been made, the path ahead is UNCERTAIN.

Correction: The "Apology Resolution" was passed as a symbolic gesture, and due to a complete lack of debate was filled with copious inaccuracies, exaggerations and outright falsehoods. See Hawaii Divided Against Itself Cannot Stand. [And citing it makes Sen. Dan Akaka a liar.]

HAWAI'I'S FUTURE

Frustration has led to anger and festered in the hearts of Hawaii's younger generations, with each child that is taught about this period of Hawaiian history, a loss is relived. It is a burden that Native Hawaiians since the overthrow continue to carry, to know that they were violated in their own homeland and their governance was ripped away unjustly. Despite the perceived harmony, it is the generation of my grandchildren that is growing impatient and frustrated with the lack of progress being made. Influenced by a deep sadness and growing intolerance, an active minority within this generation seeks independence from the United States.

Comment: The culture of Native Hawaiian victimhood is a recent development, dating back to the first racial-identity movements of the 1970s. King Kauikeaouli Kamehameha III made two attempts to get Hawaii annexed to the United States, in 1849 and 1854. For nearly 60 years, from 1900-1959, Native Hawaiian leaders and Native Hawaiian people worked to turn the Territory of Hawaii into the State of Hawaii. Finally Statehood was approved by a 94% "Yes" vote in the plebiscite of 1959. All the people of Hawaii have enjoyed more rights as part of the United States than they ever had during the Kingdom period. The active, vocal, and miniscule minority seeking passage of the Akaka bill, or independence, is more concerned about having race-based governance and race-based privileges than anything else.

It is for this generation that I work to enact this bill so that there is the structured process to deal with these emotional issues. It is important that discussions are held and that there is a framework to guide appropriate action. For Hawaii is the homeland of the Native Hawaiian people.

Comment: We should start addressing these emotional issues by educating people about the true history of the Hawaiian Islands, rather than continuing to propagate the revisionism of Native Hawaiian victimhood. Senator Akaka's use of the word "homeland" does a grave disservice to the majority of the people he was elected to represent. Hawaii is not merely the homeland of ethnic Hawaiians. Some Hawaii people with no native blood have 8 generations born and raised in Hawaii, including both Caucasians and Asians.

Mr. President, a lack of action by the U.S. will incite and will only fuel us down a path to a DIVIDED Hawai'i. A Hawai'i where lines and boundaries will be drawn and unity severed.

Comment: Senator Akaka's bill is the most divisive piece of legislation in the history of Hawaii, and perhaps in the history of the United States. Its entire purpose is to authorize creation of a race-based government that would forever divide the people and land of Hawaii along racial lines.

However, the legislation I introduce today seeks to build upon the foundation of reconciliation. It provides a structured process to bring together the people of Hawai'i, along a path of healing to a Hawaii where its indigenous people are respected and culture is embraced.

Respecting the rights of America's first peoples, American Indians, Alaska Natives, and Native Hawaiians is NOT UN-American. Through enactment of this legislation, we have the opportunity to demonstrate that our country does not just preach its ideas, but lives according to its founding principles. That the United States will admit when it has trespassed against a people and remain resolute to make amends. We demonstrate our character to ourselves and to the world by respecting the rights of our country's indigenous people. As it has for America's other indigenous peoples, I believe the United States must fulfill its responsibility to Native Hawaiians.

Correction: Being an "indigenous" person of America does not grant the rights asked for by the Akaka Bill in any other case. There are specific qualifications required for tribal membership and recognition, and Native Hawaiians do not qualify on any of these grounds, as noted by the Native Hawaiians Study Commission Report. [Also, everyone is "indigenous" to somewhere, but some are more equal than others according to the senator.]

I ask my colleagues to join me in enacting this legislation which is of great importance to all the people of Hawai'i.

Mr. President, I ask unanimous consent that my full written statement and text of this measure be printed in the record.

Wasted Words of Wisdom

Guest Editorial by Edward Cline:

The sight of newly installed Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi of California on the news recently, surrounded by a gaggle of grinning politicians and slavering reporters, prompted me to dip into the latest edition of the Oxford Dictionary of Political Quotations for an antidote. What prompted me was not anything she said then, but rather the red serape that enveloped her from shoulder to shoulder. It evoked in my mind pictures of Roman emperors draped in the imperial purple or scarlet robes of absolute power. It caused me to recall Tacitus.

“Mom” Pelosi sought power – competing in power-lust with Senators Hilary Clinton, Barack Oboma and others who wish to “manage” the nation and render it “kindlier and gentler”– and attained it. (Does anyone still think the Democrats are so politically far apart from either of the Presidents Bush? The difference between the parties is one of mere velocity. The Democrats want it now; the Republicans will follow in the next bus.) She sought power over the government purse, over the purses and wallets and futures of private citizens, power exercised by force of legislation and by punitive law for disobedience of that legislation. Power to strong arm the House into moving a few steps away from America’s current status as an expiring republic and closer to a full-fledged a socialist “democracy.”

Women dress carefully for public occasions, so I don’t think the shimmering red serape was a coincidental choice of garb for this auspicious event. It was probably the closest thing to a royal symbol of authority she had in her wardrobe with which to telegraph to all that she means to rule the House roost in true hen-house fashion, just as she apparently governs her family. Watching her in the news, she clutched and hefted the Speaker’s gavel as greedily as she might have an emperor’s scepter. Or a club. Possibly she would have even preferred one or the other to the gavel. The avarice in her eyes was too telling.

But, back to Tacitus. His Annals and Histories record the decline of Rome in the first century A.D. Alternating between dispassionate and lively (and often lurid) reporting on the lives and careers of some of the first emperors, these histories are compelling reading. (I have three of the five Heinemann/Harvard Histories volumes on my bookshelf, and have read them.) He observed in the Annals that, “The more corrupt the republic, the more numerous the laws.”

Count the laws recorded in any edition of the Federal Register – never mind state, county and municipal laws – and ask yourself: Are the republic’s days numbered, because of these innumerable, endless laws?

In Agricola, a biography of his father-in-law, Tacitus wrote of one emperor, “He has united things long incompatible, the principate (or reign) and liberty.” Political corruption could not arise if a government’s purpose was strictly defined to preserve the liberty that Romans once valued. And, an emperor’s or executive’s reign or “principate” could not be so characterized if executive powers were similarly limited. Power and liberty are fundamentally incompatible; if there is a honeymoon between them, as Tacitus notes under Emperor Nerva’s reign, it must necessarily be temporary, and would depend on the emperor’s ambition or lack of it.

Lord Acton’s dictum that “Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely” remains true. However, William Pitt the Elder’s observation to the House of Lords more than a century before delves a little deeper into the phenomenon: “Unlimited power is apt to corrupt the minds of those who possess it.”

Here I volunteer my own observation about it, that, given the nature of today’s politics, one must already be corrupted to seek political office. Look at the range of candidates for the office of president in both parties. Is there a single aspirant who advocates laissez-faire capitalism, or individual rights?

The next apropos quotations come from H.L. Mencken, the American journalist and critic. He observed, as early as the 1920’s (when this was a much freer country) in his In Defence of Women, that “The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.” Were he alive today, he would cite just a few of those hobgoblins: the environment, trans fats, the “epidemic” of obesity, global warming (or cooling), smoking, cyclamates, and so on.

Henry Brooks Adams, author of The Education of Henry Adams, would have agreed with Mencken: “Practical politics consists of ignoring facts.”

Had the government little power to enact legislation that pleased the purveyors of hobgoblins, we would hear very little from them. But, since the government has such power, they sense that their causes have half a chance to be heeded and acted on by Congress. Consequently, they feel free to make a lot of noise, concurring with Joseph Goebbels, who said, “Making noise is an effective means of opposition.”

In past commentary, I advocated that, instead of elected and appointed politicians choosing to take an oath of office on a Bible, they ought to be compelled to take that oath on a copy of the Ten Amendments to the Constitution. One wonders how many office-seekers would be willing to submit to such a condition. If they behaved as they have in the past and continue to behave in the present, which is violating those Amendments in thought and deed by regularly haranguing the public on the dangers of the latest hobgoblin and what ought to be done about it, they could be charged with lying under oath or perjury.

The prospect of impeachment would scuttle the political ambitions of ninety-nine percent of them. What has attracted them and swelled the ranks of candidacies, because there is very little any more in the way of serious recrimination and accountability, is the prospect of power and privilege and a comfortable living at no cost to themselves, except, perhaps, the bother of having to make noise for the benefit of their constituents to justify their holding office.

In Chrestomathy, Mencken offers a definition of Puritanism worthy of Samuel Johnson: “The haunting fear that someone, somewhere, may be happy.” Republican or Democrat, no politician wishes anyone to be happy, unless he is a dupe of volunteerism and “community spirit,” and didn’t smoke, consume trans fats, wink at pretty girls, and drink more than two cups of coffee a day, preferably decaffeinated. A happy man doesn’t need government guidance or anyone telling him what he should or shouldn’t do.

Speaking of lies with which politicians and hobgoblins regularly subject the American public, Adolf Hitler in Mein Kampf knew the formula well: “The broad mass of a nation…will more easily fall victim to a big lie than to a small one.”

Among the big lies that comprise the American political mantra today and that have congealed in the American psyche as unassailable truisms:

Ø The fiscal soundness and necessity of Social Security;
Ø The moral responsibility of the government to provide “free” health care, or any health care at all, in addition to subsidized housing and welfare;
Ø A central banking system;
Ø The regulation and policing of the stock market and the airwaves;
Ø The “fairness” of the propertyless voting franchise;
Ø Federal aid to states declared “disaster areas,” together with federally funded disaster insurance;
Ø The power to establish “livable” or “minimum” wages;
Ø Anti-discrimination laws of any kind to advance “social justice”;
Ø The necessity of income taxes and a galaxy of surtaxes, sales, excise and import taxes, hidden and pass-along taxes,
Ø The imperatives of maintaining the public health and the purity of the environment;
Ø The absolutely essential necessity of directing the education of the public, the better to produce an informed, responsible and responsive citizenry.

George Orwell weighed in on the subject of truth vs. lies: “Political language…is designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable, and to give an appearance of solidity to pure wind.”

And, the grandest lie of all is the one that America is, and always has been, a “democracy.” What cannot be forgiven is the sloppiness of past political writers to whom the term “republic” was a synonym for “democracy” and who didn’t trouble themselves to make a distinction between the terms.

John Adams, second President, wrote John Taylor in 1814: “Democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy that did not commit suicide.” And the sure successor of a failed democracy is tyranny. Which is why Adams and the Founders labored to establish a republic. And why Benjamin Franklin was skeptical enough about its longevity when he replied, in 1787, to a question about what kind of government the Constitutional Convention had created: “A republic, if you can keep it.”

Try any of these quotations on any random politician, presidential aspirant, or bureaucrat, and one is likely to elicit a response: “Yeah? And what’s that in relation to?” or “”Don’t bother me with irrelevancies. Changing reality has changed the rules. Forget the Founders.”

Then you will appreciate the irony of your being the “public servant,” not he. He is the master, sporting the cloak of imperial power.

Winds of War: How the War Against Islamism Will Last 70 Years – And They Win

UK Home Secretary John Reid, Newt Gingrich, and the Pentagon have all chimed in over the last few months stating that the misnamed ‘war on terror’ will last a generation or so. To quote Gingrich:

Americans must steel themselves for a long and arduous war against the "irreconcilable wing of Islam," which could last anywhere from 30 to 70 years.

A wing? Were the Japanese pilots who bombed Pearl Harbor a ‘wing’ of the Shinto religion? Were the SS a ‘wing’ of a benign National Socialist Party?

Mr. Gingrich, if this struggle between a freedom loving ideology and that of the Islamist ideology lasts 70 years without an outbreak of a global war, the Islamists will have won.

Here’s why.

What if Pearl Harbor didn’t happen? And what if Hitler didn’t invade Poland and Mussolini didn’t invade Ethiopia? That is to say, what if the fascist regimes of Japan, Germany and Italy restrained themselves for starting a hot war and didn’t reach for the gun – i.e., putting boots on the ground in other countries to impose their ideology - to advance their agenda of world domination? How would history have turned out? Would the fascist ideology have won?

Muslim Council of Britain Press Release Regarding Undercover Mosque Report

A steaming pile of corn-laden crap:

From the latest transcript it is clear that Monday's heavily hyped 'Dispatches' is an attempt to forment sectarian divisions among British Muslims and misrepresent some leading UK Muslim institutions, including the Markazi Jamiat Ahl-e-Hadith, the London Islamic Cultural Centre and the UK Islamic Mission.

“Islam commands Muslims to deal positively and peacefully with those around us. These transcripts show that the programme makers have mischievously tried to prove that key Muslim institutions are teaching the exact opposite by resorting to the dishonest tactic of selectively quoting from some recorded speeches for the purpose of misrepresentation. Their aim is to attach guilt by association. This continuing demonisation of British Muslims and the risible attempt at promoting sectarianism among British Muslims will be firmly rejected,” said Dr Muhammad Abdul Bari, Secretary-General of the Muslim Council of Britain.

At the same time, the Muslim Council of Britain urges all Muslim institutions to be vigilant and ensure that their premises are not allowed to be abused by those who are intent on pursuing divisive agendas. Unacceptable and inflammatory language can never be accepted from Muslim speakers either during talks or on recorded DVDs. It is vital that the sanctity of mosques and Islamic centres is maintained at all times and an Islamic code of conduct upheld.

Why won't Bush pardon the agents?

Amid protests and a flurry of last-minute efforts by congressmen, two border patrol agents are scheduled today to begin long prison sentences for shooting and wounding a Mexican drug smuggler who was granted full immunity to testify against them.

"This is the worst betrayal of American defenders I have ever seen," Rohrabacher (congresssman R-CA) said of the president. "It's shameful this was done by someone who is in the Republican Party. He obviously thinks more about his agreements with Mexico than the lives of American people and backing up his defenders."

The California lawmaker, who has helped lead efforts to obtain a pardon, charged the Bush administration has been playing a "cruel game." Initially, he said, officials insisted the agents could not be pardoned because they had not filled out the proper paperwork. But Rohrabacher told WND the White House did not explain to the public that the agents were being required – without justification, he contended – to first admit guilt.

TJ Bonner, president of the National Border Patrol Council, a union representing 1,500 agents, argued failure to report the discharge of a firearm is an administrative offense that, at the most, merits a five-day suspension.

"How that translates into 11- and 12-year prison terms is beyond me," he told WND. "They fired at someone they believed had a weapon. He resisted their commands, assaulted one of the officers and then wheeled around and pointed something at them. Logic would say it would be a weapon.

"After all the Monday-morning quarterbacking, I would have to come to the same conclusion," Bonner said. "He's a drug smuggler, for God's sake."

The Department of Homeland Security sent an investigator to Mexico to offer the smuggler, Aldrete-Davila, full immunity in exchange for his testimony against the agents. Now, Aldrete-Davila is suing the U.S. Border Patrol for $5 million for allegedly violating his civil rights.

Secrets easily removed from US Nuclear Weapons Labs? YES

The Energy Department’s dismissal last week of its top nuclear security official shows that security at U.S. nuclear weapons laboratories remains poor and the theft of nuclear secrets remains unresolved. brooks_linton.jpg

Energy Secretary Samuel W. Bodman fired the head of the National Nuclear Security Administration, Linton F. Brooks, because of security breaches last year at weapons facilities, including Los Alamos National Laboratory.

The most damaging security lapses from U.S. nuclear laboratories involved China’s theft through espionage of secrets on every deployed nuclear warhead in the strategic arsenal, including the small W-88 warhead used on the most advanced missiles.

China is believed to have supplied Pakistan with nuclear weapons technology, including warhead design data.

Brooks said in a statement “one reason for forming NNSA was to prevent such management problems from occurring.”

This kind of blase stupidity threatens to actually become BORING with the volume of these kinds of stories. Why can't we have secure information?

Skyshield is one step closer, the end to Katyushas, and Qassams, and Hizbo's main weapon

From Gertz..

New Skyshield system destroys enemy missiles with cloud of tungsten submunitions

TEL AVIV — Lockheed Martin is developing its Skyshield air defense system for protection against missiles and rockets.

The development is focused on an interceptor that forms a cloud of submunitions to destroy incoming enemy projectiles. In the company's latest newsletter, Lockheed Martin reported the development of a surface-to-air munition to destroy incoming short-range rockets, artillery shells and mortars. The December 2006 Newsline newsletter reported that in static tests the munitions were successful in penetrating and exploding the warhead of Kassam-class, short-range missiles and Katyusha-class rockets of the type that have been aimed at Israel in recent months.

"The test rockets were precise copies of the original," the company said.

Skyshield, also designed to destroy enemy helicopters and unmanned aerial vehicles, involves two 35-mm cannons and tracking radar. The radar can detect and track small projectiles.

The system can fire 1,000 radar-guided shells per minute, the company said. The warhead is called Advanced Hit Efficiency and Destruction. Each AHEAD shell contains 152 submunitions made of tungsten, capable of penetrating an incoming missile, rocket or mortar shell.

Lockheed Martin said the bomblets emitted toward their target form a lethal cloud that either destroys the incoming missile or diverts its path. The company said Skyshield does not produce collateral damage.

"The small tungsten projectiles lose their speed quite quickly when they pass the target, and in their final speed the components do not harm people," the newsletter said.

Lockheed Martin has used an unidentified special material for the AHEAD shell designed to penetrate incoming projectiles.

The company has proposed delivery of the first enhanced Skyshield to Israel this year. The system reportedly costs around $15 million.

Reactions to Undercover Mosque

Peace, bruv:

What were Abu Usama And Faiz thinking when making the statements they did? What they said was devoid of any understanding of the context of the time and place we are living in. And the more i think about it, the more i'm sure that brothers such as these have little or no interaction with non-Muslims because its impossible to hold such views and express them so boldly in the UK in 2007 if you're meeting non-Muslims regularly. They need to move on from describing the UK/Western populace as gays, controlled by Jews, etc.

Move on... to what? Unbridled hatred of the infidels is their core. They "gain" their identity by loathing the "dirty" and "inferior" kufaar.

Furthermore, wasn't one of these preacher a Muslim convert? He knows the infidels very well and still he hates them. It would certainly be nice if mingling with non-Muslims could dissipate the irrational ill-will but sadly that doesn't always happen. (And it didn't happen in this case.)

Take another example: Saudi Arabia. Western engineers and technicians have been maintaining the oil infrastructure in that nation for decades. The Saudis have worked with Americans, Aussies, Brits, Canadians, and other Westerners for all these years.

Have we seen a more friendly Saudi Arabia emerge after all that time?

No. 500,000 Americans saved Kuwait and Saudi Arabia in 1991. In 2001, the Saudis at my father's office celebrated the news of 9/11.

Via Austrolabe, a press release from Green Lane Masjid (one of the mosques that was featured in the program):

This so-called “undercover” investigation merely panders to age-old anti-Muslim prejudices by employing the time-honoured tradition of cherry picking statements and presenting them in the most inflammatory manner.

Muslim speakers, in front of supportive audiences, talked about:

  • Killing those who leave Islam.
  • Hitting children who refuse to pray.
  • Murdering homosexuals because... they're homosexuals.
  • The deficiency of a woman -- thus necessitating two women witnesses to challenge a male witness.
  • Praising the Jihadists in Afghanistan who killed a British Muslim soldier. The Jihadists, you see, are the real heroes.

In what context would these statements be any less revolting?

Green Lane Masjid also, unintentionally, shows just what is coming to Europe:

Dispatches failed to adequately differentiate between the application of Islamic Shariah in an Islamic State and its application within a minority Muslim community in modern day Britain.

Oh yes, just wait till Muslims are a majority; that's when the real fun starts!

Austrolabe:

Perhaps, if there is one overwhelming lesson in all of this, it is that imams and religious leaders need to think very carefully about what they are saying.

Because you never know, there just might be a journalist around -- recording what your dark heart really believes.

Superstition is Truth

I briefly talked about the Undercover Mosque documentary from Britain yesterday. The reply to the show makes for an interesting reading.

The programme also showed the preachers discussing what are actually normal Islamic opinions and practices and seemed to suggest that they were morally equivalent. For example, the command to enforce prayer on older children in the family, and to hit them if they refuse, is not limited to the people shown up as extremists in the programme: it comes straight from the Prophet (sall' Allahu 'alaihi wa sallam).

That's the core problem. Islam is extreme.

Just look at the guy who is thought to be the perfect moral example for Muslims: he married multiple women; had sex with a 9-year-old girl; ordered to kill those who criticized him; had all the adults of a Jewish tribe murdered and took their women and children as slaves and on and on.

How the hell is that in any way moral?

But you see, for Muslims, morality is defined by what Muhammad did and what he told others to do. Period.

The documentary implicitly showed the prophet as an immoral man. This presents a "problem" for both non-Muslims and Muslims.

  • Non-Muslims cannot criticize Islamic practices in a logical manner without inferring that Muhammad was a monster.
  • Muslims can't explicitly and openly disagree with the odious imams and preachers without saying that Muhammad was wrong.

The entire rotten foundation of a religion is one evil man and the non-Muslims should not be afraid to say just that.

If Muslims think that that is wrong, then they can point out the flaws in the argument. (Saying that Muhammad did X and thus by definition X is moral ain't an argument.)

If the non-Muslims are right, then Muslims ought to wake up and leave their decrepit ideology.

Kamila, from the comments:

Islam is originally from Saudi Arabia and Muslim knows that, so the modern Muslims should not complain about the extremism because Islam never originated from Pakistan, Iran or England. So if the Saudi are extreme then the original Islam is extreme and it should be practiced to the fullest.

Yusuf Smith, from the comments:

Andy: parents hit their kids in this country for petty "P's and Q's" matters all the time, not just because they won't do their homework. To a lot of parents it's the only way to chastise a recalcitrant child. I got smacked many times and don't think my parents barbaric. Maybe Islam is superstition to you but to us it's the Truth.

Indeed. What is often barbaric in the West is normal in Islam.

Ergo, Islam is barbaric.

As Sure As The Sun Will Come Up

Here comes the inevitable denials and obfuscations and voicing of fear of a "backlash" against all Muslims for the sins of a few extremists. Yeah, right"

CITY religious leaders fear that all Muslims could suffer a backlash after hardline clerics were exposed in a TV programme.

A number of Birmingham mosques were featured in a Channel Four documentary about extremist preachers who delivered messages of hate and intolerance.

Undercover reporters spent months filming cleric Abu Usamah, speaking at Green Lane Mosque, in Small Heath, condemning Jews, Christians and others, promoting 'holy war' and calling for British democracy to be replaced with an Islamic State.

Representatives from Green Lane Mosque said they had launched an urgent investigation into Abu Usamah's lectures, while the head of the Jamia Mosque said the speakers were not regular members and had hired a hall to hold meetings.

Today, Muslim leaders roundly condemned extremists who use the name of Islam to spread hatred but also questioned the intent of the programme makers.

Dr Mohammed Naseem, from Birmingham Central Mosque, said: "It is disturbing that Channel Four focuses on these extremists who do exist in all kinds of societies.

"If you look at areas of the extreme Christian right you will find similar views.

"His remarks are not representative of the majority of Muslims and it paints a picture which is not realistic."

He said: "They are a very small minority but they are being given a profile which is being magnified many, many times.

"Islam teaches us to be tolerant and love your neighbour across the region, this is what 99 per cent of Muslims will hear in Mosques."

You know what I say to that?

Australian Muslim cleric: Use children as troops

$10 says there will be loud screams that he doesn't represent the real Islam.

(NEWS.com.au) SYDNEY'S most influential radical Muslim cleric has been caught on film calling Jews pigs and urging children to die for Allah.

Firebrand Sheik Feiz Mohammed, head of the Global Islamic Youth Centre in Liverpool, delivered the hateful rants on a collection of DVDs called the Death Series being sold in Australia and overseas.

"Today many parents, they prevent their children from attending lessons. Why? They fear that they might create a place in the their hearts, the love, just a bit of the love, of sacrificing their lives for Allah," Sheik Feiz says in the video.

"We want to have children and offer them as soldiers defending Islam. Teach them this: There is nothing more beloved to me than wanting to die as a mujahid (holy warrior). Put in their soft, tender hearts the zeal of jihad and a love of martyrdom."

Jimmy Carter Interceded on Behalf of Nazi SS Guard

Just when you think that Carter couldn't sink any lower, he proves you wrong... again.

(INN) A former U.S. Justice Department official disclosed to Arutz-7 that former U.S. President Jimmy Carter’s advocacy extended beyond the Palestinians, when he interceded on behalf of a Nazi SS man.

Neil Sher, a veteran of the U.S. Justice Department’s Office of Special Investigation, described a letter he received from Carter in 1987 in an interview with Israel National Radio’s Tovia Singer. The letter, written and signed by Carter, asked that Sher show “special consideration” for a man proven to have murdered Jews in the Mauthausen death camp in Austria.

World Music Never Right In The First Place

On January 8, 2007, LGF had a post named, “World Music Gone Horribly Wrong”, featuring a music album on the Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage titled, “Palestine Lives!: Songs from the Struggle of the People of Palestine”. Among the tracks are, “The Testament of a Martyr” (“martyr” is Islamspeak for suicide-bomber), “The Road of Dignity” (once again, honor is shown to be of utmost important to them, more important even than the lives of their children) and “I am Enduring” (enduring self-inflicted suffering, if anything). I have already written of this “indigenous freedom fighter chic” (on December 5, 2006 and on November 17, 2006). But Charles’ title, “World Music Gone Horribly Wrong”, sent my thoughts darting in far-flung directions just as surely as Leto Atreides’ words, “The women are beautiful at this time of the year” sent Stilgar’s thoughts to faraway places in Children of Dune. This is about the phenomenon of World Music as a reflection of the relations between the “colonials” and the “indigenous”.

For the purpose of this post I have used the magazine Masa Acher, the Israeli equivalent of National Geographic. Geographic magazines, and this I realized quite from my beginning of reading them, a lot of years ago, are supposed to bring information about strange peoples and places, but in most cases fall very, very easily into the trap of value-judgments, usually the trap of Reverse Discrimination, in which they try to make up for past bias against the non-Western natives by heaping gory details of Western colonialist oppression of them. This is issue 90, from March 1999. It may seem too old to be useful, and indeed I had that thought as one of my first upon recalling it, but on second thoughts its being from pre-9/11 days makes it even more useful than if it were a recent issue, because that shows how deeply ingrained the PC (post-colonial or politically correct) attitudes are.

Storm Track Infiltration: American Children – Next Terrorist Target?

JR over at A Keyboard and a .45 recently wrote a chilling post. He speculated on some worrisome information and events that could lead to mass slaughter in our schools by terrorists.

Consider these points:

  • According to two trainers at an anti-terrorism conference on the East Coast, preparations for attacks on American schools that will bring rivers of blood and staggering body counts are well underway in Islamic terrorist camps.
  • The intended attackers have bluntly warned us they’re going to do it.
  • They’re already begun testing school-related targets here.
  • They’ve given us a catastrophic model to train against, which we’ve largely ignored and they’ve learned more deadly tactics from.

According to an article from PoliceOne.com, “We don’t know for sure what they will do. But by definition, a successful attack is one we are not ready for,” declared one of the instructors, Lt.Col. Dave Grossman. Our schools fit that description to a “T”—as in Terrorism and Threat.”

How do we know that the terrorist are targeting our schools?
