Rightwing Extremism: A DHS Document?

BUMPED TO THE TOP

This is going to tie in with Epa's post directly below. I saw it at Getting Hot & Heavy last night. In Mary's Image was asking if it was real. It looks real enough but at the time I could only find it on extreme right wing conspiracy sites. Now I'm not so sure but with Epa's piece from the Washington Times it seems a little more plausible.

So have a look. What do you think? I make no claim either way.

Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment

UPDATE FROM PASTORIUS:

Michelle Malkin it is confirmed that the document is real.

I spent the day chasing down DHS spokespeople, who have been tied up preparing for a very important homeland security event later today: The First Lady is coming to visit their Washington office. Priorities, you know.

Well, the press office got back to me and verified that the document is indeed for real.

They were very defensive — preemptively so — in asserting that it was not a politicized document and that DHS had done reports on “leftwing extremism” in the past. I have covered DHS for many years and am quite familiar with past assessments they and the FBI have done on animal rights terrorists and environmental terrorists. But those past reports have always been veryspecific in identifying the exact groups, causes, and targets of domestic terrorism, i.e., the ALF, ELF, and Stop Huntingdon wackos who have engaged in physical harassment, arson, vandalism, and worse against pharmaceutical companies, farms, labs, and university researchers.

By contrast, the piece of crap report issued on April 7 is a sweeping indictment of conservatives. And the intent is clear. As the two spokespeople I talked with on the phone today made clear: They both pinpointed the recent “economic downturn” and the “general state of the economy” for stoking “rightwing extremism.” One of the spokespeople said he was told that the report has been in the works for a year. My b.s. detector went off the chart, and yours will, too, if you read through the entire report — which asserts with no evidence that an unquantified “resurgence in rightwing extremist recruitment and radicalizations activity” is due to home foreclosures, job losses, and…the historical presidential election.

In Obama land, there are no coincidences. It is no coincidence that this report echoes Tea Party-bashing left-wing blogs (check this one out comparing the Tea Party movement to the Weather Underground!) and demonizes the very Americans who will be protesting in the thousands on Wednesday for the nationwide Tax Day Tea Party.

UPDATE II from Pastorius:

When I read this yesterday over at Atlas I was struck by how "dated" it sounded, with all its references to the Oklahoma City bombing of 1995. It has to be a post-9/11 publication, it's Homeland Security. The "dated" feel comes from what appears to me to be an attempt to stereotype "right wing extremists" with the characteristics of 1990s "militia" movements. There is relatively little reference to 9/11 and no mention of blogs such as IBA/AS/JW etc., of the "Go Galt" movement, of the challenges to Obama's socialism, Black Liberation racism, dangerous courting of Muslim radicals or the widespread alarm over the Iranian and NoKo nuclear programs. The impression I got was that they are trying to define the opposition in a way that will make it easier for them to "justify" harrassment.

Btw, reports are beginning to pop up on news sites that ACORN may be planning to disrupt some of the Tea Parties tomorrow...

ACORN -- bring 'em on. This could get ugly. Or fun. Or both.

Just make sure you have cameras to document who starts the shit.

MR, I am really concerned that ACORN will "bring it on." I have no experience in physical confrontations. What does one do?

I have seen the vids of the physical intimidation of the pro-Hamas supporters against journalists and pro-Israeli folks. I also saw the NYPD just blow off the complaint by the NYPost photog.

I could not stand up to a bunch of angry men yelling in my face. And if anyone comes to my aid, it could end in a physical altercation, which is, of course, the end game for the provacateurs.

So, how to avoid it? Just spend all my time videotaping??

The sickest part is how they used us Jews, as if most if not all liberals didn't want us extermminated are weren't willing to get violent to make it happen.

Oh, and they're coming after my gun.

Did you call the NRA? Don't they have a legal defense division that helps handle this type of stuff?

And yes, I agree about the strangeness of the "right wing extremist" anti-semite stuff in that DHS report. One of the bellweathers of this modern-day conservatism (NOT the Pat Buchanan type) is its robust support of Israel.

Good grief - that is one reason they hate conservatives so much - their very vocal support of Israel!

Man, it is getting creepier by teh day.

Hi Ro,
Since I will be without the protection of my husbands and sons tomorrow(much to their consternation), here is my plan...if anyone decides to heckle or harass me I am going to ask the nearest person to take a picture of me and my "new friend". Then I will smile broadly and pose for a picture if the freaktard stays around long enough...and if he/she does, then look for their picture over on my blog tomorrow evening :)

Just remember tomorrow, there will be many more of us than of them, if you seriously feel in danger or uncomfortable, head for the nearest group of people---but, I have an idea, like the cowards they are, they won't bother you too long if you are surrounded by other conservatives.
Good luck and be safe tomorrow.

Mace and tasers. Mace and tasers. Never leave home without 'em.

I did contact the NRA and they referred me to a coupl eof lawyers, one of whom doesn't have a real phone number (it was some teenage girl) and the other of whom donated thousands to Kerry and Edwards.

In Mary's Image -

Thank you. I will try to hook up with a group when I get there. Last time there were lots of young - to - middle aged women there.

I think I will go armed with a camera and a big goofy smile, too!

jamn13 - what law is being invoked to force you to defend your right to bear arms?
