Why is Pope Benedict supporting the UN's 'anti-racist' hatefest against Israel?

From the Telegraph Newspaper blog:

I don't often have a go at Pope Benedict XVI, but WHY is he supporting the United Nations conference on "racism" in Geneva? You know, the one where leading anti-racist (and Holocaust denier) Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is a major participant. The one convened by that celebrant of human rights, Libya. The one where speaker after speaker is lined up to gibber about the most evil racist regime the world has ever known, ie the Zionist entity.

I've been reading the preparatory documents for this ridiculous event, known as Durban II, and I can see why the Obama administration, together with pant-wettingly PC Australia and Canada, is boycotting it. Even the BBC is having doubts about it, which is saying something. But, as its website reports:

The Pope spoke out in favour of the conference, saying it was an opportunity to fight discrimination and intolerance. "We ask for firm and consistent action, at national and international level, to prevent and eliminate any form of discrimination and of intolerance," he said.

With respect, Holy Father, it's not an opportunuity to fight racism; like the disgusting fiasco in Durban in 2001, it's an opportunity for African dictators and Jew-baiting Islamists to fulminate against Israel and the neo-Nazi, anti-Arab hordes that are sweeping across racist Europe, while dismissing any trifling Muslim assaults on other faiths as Islamophobic myths.

I wonder if the Vatican is sending any bishops to Geneva. I can think of one who'd feel at home there, can't you?

Because men are not weak, but terribly weak, ignorance and fear are stronger than reason and justice, and howling mobs of bigots are more powerful than the ingenuity of the individual mind when together for that reason... thus the world is what we make it.

Which, is why, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

Is Benedict just that out of touch??

Does he really think this is about "human rights"????

Is there no one at the Vatican who can check this stuff out before he makes another goofy pronouncement?

Very, very disappointing.

Sadly, I do think he is really that out of touch.

And yes, I do believe there are people at the Vatican who could warn him, but I believe they are purposefully refraining from doing so.

I believe Pope Benedict is being undermined. Or, so it would seem.

I'm with Pasto. He was blindsided by the whole holocaust denying priest bit and now this.

His handlers are really blindsiding him, and I'm not sure why. Although some of the thoughts are truly frightening.

Pope John Paul I sure wasn't Pope very long, was he?

I wonder how that happened?

Egads, brother, I didn't want to go here because it can be way out there and I don't know how much of it I believe myself & I'm Catholic. Remember alot of it is from Catholic prophecies, in this case The Bayside Prophecies. But when you have a little time:

http://www.tldm.org/news3/impostor.htm

And when you have ALOT of time:

http://www.tldm.org/default.htm

REMEMBER I don't necessarily believe this stuff but there are a ton of folks who do (like my mother-in-law but that is a closed subject)(she's a real dingbat, and my wife would be the first to say so)

I used to be Catholic. Did not mean to offend and apologies if I did.

It just seems like what is coming out of the Vatican lately is straight from the "Theater of the Absurd." Or a Malachi Martin book (same thing).

I find it incredibly creepy that there may be those close to Benedict who are deliberately trying to undermine and humiliate him publicly.

(Term limits for Vatican-service cardinals, anyone?)

He just does not seem like a Holocaust-denier type himself.

Maybe someone needs to whisper in his ear during a special audience.

Good heaven's. Ro, I took no offense whatsoever.

I put those links up because Pasto asked about JPI. I don't usually bring them up here because, even as a former Catholic, you know some of our prophecies can be way out there. Like I said, I don't quite believe alot of it myself. And what I do believe of them I often think is just 47 yrs of ingrained superstition.

But when you see the strong start he seemed to have with Regensburg etc then the erratic behavior the last few months you start to wonder. Coupled with his taking the name Benedict. It does seem like someone is deliberatly misleading him and I cannot fathom why but some of it is talked about in those 3 links.

However, if the next Pope chooses the name Peter Romanus I may revise everything I've just said.

Oriana Fallaci said that this Pope "got it" -- about Islam, anyway.

But does he really?

I do believe Benedict is being deceived by people on the inside of the Vatican?

Why do I believe thtat?

Because Benedict is the furthest thing from an anti-Semite.

I wrote about this long ago on CUANAS. I'll have to dig up the articles.

Benedict wrote the papers which inspired and ultimately forced the change against anti-Semitism in the Vatican II.

That was BENEDICT! Cardinal Ratzinger.

He's never credited for it. Why?

midnight rider said...

Fallaci was very fond of this Pope, and it seemed he of her. I wonder if he'd be making the same decisions were Oriana still alive and had his ear?

Pasto's right, Ratzinger is no anti-semite. Though he was drafted into the German army near the end fo WW II he escaped (deserted) and surrendered to Americans, spending time in a POW camp for his efforts.

No, I believe the Pope's heart on this is good but he is being mislead.

To read some of the stuff Pastorius was talking about start with this link. Some articles are in full, others are in bibliography form so you can at least search them on the web.

The articles Pastorius wrote at CUANAS are: http://cuanas.blogspot.com/search?q=ratzinger

and especially:

Yes, that's the article I was thinking of MR. How did you find it so fast?

Did Google actually provide a link on that? I've tried to find it before (the last time the Pope was accused of anti-Semitism) and was unable to do so.

I figured I was going to have to do hours of digging.

midnight rider said...

Went to CUANAS and searched Ratzinger.

Pastorius said...

I would swear I had done that before.

Well good, it worked. Thanks.

midnight rider said...

no problem. I would have posted it & given you a hat tip :) but it wouldn't let me copy.

Pastorius said...

I just posted it as a separate article here at IBA, with commentary on the recent developments within the Vatican.

Interestingly, they are being referred to, by Vatican officials, as a "lack of communication within the Vatican."

Very suspicious, if you ask me.

midnight rider said...

Suspicious I'd agree. The Vatican has always been about discipline in controlling the message.

It seems only the last year or two that has gone by the wayside.

Pastorius said...

I've only noticed it the past couple of years.

As I say in the other article which I just put up, the statements and positions Benedict is taking, which are claimed to be from a "lack of communication", are clearly contradictory to the opinions he has expressed in his most carefully laid out academic papers.

Honestly, in my opinion, that is cause for alarm. There is something wrong.

One thing that I had not considered previously is that the Pope COULD be losing it.

But, I doubt that. If that were the case, I would expect that his handlers would try to silence him, not send him out in a direction opposite to his previously stated direction.

though, he could be losing it, and they are simply using it as an opportunity to forward their agenda.

Pastorius said...

None of this is becoming of the Vatican.
