All of us, every single man, woman, and child on the face of the Earth were born with the same unalienable rights; to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. And, if the governments of the world can't get that through their thick skulls, then, regime change will be necessary.

Wolverines!
Ace says they're doing a remake of this film. I agree with him. Why mess with perfection?
I assume by the R party you mean the republican party, of which I'm a member. Do you have any idea where we could go online to see this awesome new ad? I would really like to see it.
Damien-I found two-I'll keep searching for the one w/ the WTC footage: http://carolmsblog.blogspot.com/2009/05/are-rs-growing-spine-terrorists-and.html C-CS
Cool, those really were awesome ads! I hope come next presidential election, the Republican presidential candidate makes some adds with this much spine!
It all depends on who is doing the remake and whom do they see as the enemy and so far all I've read is yatting about the "post 9/11 world", which should mean Islamic forces but with Hollywood involved will probably turn out to be a coalition of the IDF and a "right wing extremist militia" wearing tea party insignia.
Proposed remakes are drifting into murky waters, excuse the pun because Disney has this director "McG" hired to do a remake of "20,000 Leagues" but instead of a heroic tale of a man avenging his family and colleagues and single-handedly preventing the Bad Guys from getting their mitts on nuclear weaponry 75 years ahead of everyone else, this idiot McG wants to focus on how "obsession makes you a villain". He is after Will Smith to play the lead and much as I like Will that is inappropriate and transparently multiculti casting. At this point my only ray of hope that they won't be-slime one of my favorite movies is that Will doesn't think it's so hot an idea either.
I have a feeling that if they do remake red Dawn the bad guys will be communists, otherwise they'd probably call it something else and make a new movie entirely. If they made the bad guys IDF and a "right wing extremist militia," calling it Red Dawn, wouldn't make much sense, since even through we call Republican states, "Red states," when we call someone a "Red," we're calling them a communist. If they do remake Red Dawn, I hope they can do at least as good a job as they did with the original.
I'm assuming that your addressing Midnight Rider, since he brought up the up the possibility that they might remake the movie. However what I meant by making the War on Terror, "Red Dawn," would be a film, somewhat analogous to Red Dawn, but instead dealing with the current conflict and our current number one enemy. If we were going to be really blunt and politically incorrect, we could call it "Crescent Dawn." Now could you imagine how that film might play out?
I never saw 20,000 Leagues, so I can't comment on it. If it was called 2,000 leagues I'd think it might have something to do with Jewels Vern's "2,000 Leagues under the sea," but from what I know, that was a Sci-Fi story about a submarine before they were actually invented. I haven't read it, but from what I know, Vern Didn't predict the advent of nuclear weapons.
As for the idea that "obsession makes you a villain," it doesn't always, but it can. If you are so obsessed with something that you are willing to do anything to get it, it can make you into one. If you're will to do something like say murder, to get what you want, that's not good, even if you have some seemingly high motive. Many totalitarian regimes preach a desire to create a Utopia, and an ends justifies the means mentality. If you are obsessed with something enough, you may end up convincing yourself that the ends justify the means, even if the clearly do not.
Damien -- you lost a zero somewhere. Revere is talking about Jules Vern's 20,000 (not 2,000) Leagues Under the Sea. An excellent book I haven't read in many years but really ought to again.
Well I thought it was 2,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Sorry my bad. But still, I never new the book had anything to do with nuclear weapons. Jewels Vern was even more ahead of his time than I thought. I should read the book, or maybe watch the old movie.
Damien - I meant no offense, didn't know if you were familiar with it or not.
They never actually say nuclear in the book (from what I recall, last I read it was 25 + years ago) but the allusions to propulsion etc would lead one to believe, living in the nuclear age now, that that is exactly what Verne imagined.

midnight rider,
I wonder when someone with the resources and the guts, will come along and make the War on Terror, "Red Dawn!"
Finding the guts is the trouble.
midnight rider,
No arguing with you there.
The R party has made an awesome ad - shown on Hannity -first time- Thurs...MAYBE some of the Rs are 'sharpening' their spines...

And yes, he was way ahead of his time on that.
midnight rider,
I never thought you meant me any offense.
Damien, I'm happy to hear that. Thanks.
midnight rider,
You're Welcome
Damien, go watch that movie. It is a 1954 Disney live action with top level actors which leads to some very strange drama/comic relief configurations.
Nevertheless: Two names:
Captain Nemo.
James Mason.
Be prepared. Be very prepared...
Revereridesagain,
Thank you, Maybe I'll watch the movie one of these days when I have time.
