MOUSAVI'S "YELTSIN MOMENT"

From the Astute Bloggers:

IN 1991 YELTSIN STOOD ATOP A TANK IN MOSCOW, AND NOT ONLY STOPPED AN ATTEMPTED COUP AGAINST COMMUNIST "REFORMER" GORBACHEV, BUT HE ALSO ENDED THE COMMUNIST TYRANNY AND USHERED IN RUSSIAN DEMOCRACY - SUCH AS IT IS...

YESTERDAY, MOUSAVI HAD HIS YELTSIN MOMENT - THE MOMENT IT MAY HAVE ENDED FOR THE MULLAH TYRANTS - WHEN HE JOINED HIS FOLLOWERS AT A MASSIVE PROTEST IN TEHRAN

HERE'S HOPING THE PEOPLE OF IRAN SUCCEED WHERE YELTSIN SUCCEEDED AND THE CHINESE FAILED AND THAT THEY OVERTHROW THE TYRANNY AND ESTABLISH A TRUE DEMOCRACY WORTHY OF THE ALL THE PERSIAN PEOPLE OR EVERY CREED!

  • RIGHT NOW, I WOULD BET AGAINST THE PEOPLE OF IRAN AND ON THE TYRANTS.

WHY!?

SIMPLE:
  • THE IRANIAN REVOLUTIONARY GUARD IS LIKE THE CHINESE RED ARMY - WILLING TO FIRE ON THEIR FELLOW CITIZENS.
  • IN THE USSR, THE ARMY WAS NOT, AND THAT'S A MAJOR REASON WHY YELTSIN SUCCEEDED AND TIENANMEN FAILED.
  • THE ONLY ONLY ONLY WAY THE PEOPLE OF IRAN CAN SUCCEED IS IF OBAMA COMES OUT STRONGLY IN FAVOR IF THE IRANIAN PEOPLE AND A FREE ELECTION.
  • AND OBAMA IS AWOL; OR - AS SOMEONE ELSE BLOGGED: THE 3AM PHONE CALL CAME AND HE DIDN'T ANSWER IT!

I'm afraid you're right Pasto.

The Mullahs will take a page out of the Chinese book. Stay calm, take pictures of the crowd and hunt them down one by one over the next several weeks, put them away some place and never hear of them again.

The points you make likely coincide with the lack of interest in this controversial election. Violence from barbaric regimes is expected - and dismissed as not news-worthy.

Speed of Iran vote count called suspicious (AP)
AP - How do you count almost 40 million handwritten paper ballots in a matter of hours and declare a winner? That's a key question in Iran's disputed presidential election.

I remember watching that Yeltsin moment, just like I remember watching the Berlin Wall come down.

We COULD be at a historic crossroads if the Iranians can keep the fire burning. So to speak.

WC,
Sadly, I do think this post from Reliapundit is correct.

HRW,
Yes, I see what you mean.

But, I go back to this:

The story is not about the Mullahs, it is not about Mousavi, it is about the people of Iran.
