French immigration minister launches debate on national identity

2009-11-03 02:16:20

PARIS, Nov. 2 (Xinhua) -- French Minister of Immigration and National Identity Eric Besson launched Monday a countrywide debate on national identity to make out what are unifiable symbols for French people.

The debate will last to Feb. 4, 2010, and covers all 96 provinces and 342 districts of France, including its overseas territories, according to a statement released by the ministry.

The action would "strengthen our national identity and reaffirm the republican value and the national pride as being a French," the statement underlined.

The ministry also published a website, www.debatidentitenationale.fr, for French citizens to express their opinions and suggestions over this controversial issue.

The debate focusing on "What is a French today" contains questions related to French history, culture, language, territory, religion and so on. How to integrate the populous migration could be the most sensitive topic during the next three months.

The tough minister who called the ban against burka in France has first announced the idea of the national debate on Oct. 25. Since then different views have began the argument.

Some analysts regarded the great debate necessary preparation to tackle French immigration problems, while some oppositions alleged it a political maneuver of the ruling party to gather support ahead of the regional election in March 2010.

I'm having trouble with the settings at Blogger or I'd post this, but JihadWatch and Atlas are both reporting that Noor Falah Almaleki, who was run over by her Muslim father in Arizona, has died.

What is French?

1) Fries? Yeah, yeah, I know, they're called Pom d'frites, of something like that ...

2) to run screaming at the site of any enemy approaching ...

3) Creperie

4) rioting in the streets for jobs where you don't have to work ...

5) I have no fucking idea ...

The reason all the answers seem nebulous and laughably unhelpful is that it's the wrong question to be asking in the first place.

The right question, of course, is: What is human freedom, and how do we destroy those who seem bent on stripping us of it in our own back yard.

There, just saved you a shit-load of wasted time and expense, France. You're welcome.
