The three, all members of the Navy's elite commando unit, have refused non-judicial punishment — called an admiral's mast — and have requested a trial by court-martial.Ahmed Hashim Abed, whom the military code-named "Objective Amber," told investigators he was punched by his captors — and he had the bloody lip to prove it.
Now, instead of being lauded for bringing to justice a high-value target, three of the SEAL commandos, all enlisted, face assault charges and have retained lawyers.
Matthew McCabe, a Special Operations Petty Officer Second Class (SO-2), is facing three charges: dereliction of performance of duty for willfully failing to safeguard a detainee, making a false official statement, and assault.
Petty Officer Jonathan Keefe, SO-2, is facing charges of dereliction of performance of duty and making a false official statement.
Petty Officer Julio Huertas, SO-1, faces those same charges and an additional charge of impediment of an investigation.
I know that the men and women who volunteer to serve our nation in time of war do so for many reasons, including a great sense of patriotic duty but it wouldn't surprise me if many of them decide to take an off-ramp from the military in the next few years.
Loyalty is a two way street but right now it seems a Muslim Army doctor communicating with al Qaeda gets more of the benefit of the doubt than three Navy SEALS on the front line.
UPDATE: Commenter Chuck points out - Just to keep this in perspective, our "government" tripped over themselves to keep the terrorist Hasan of Fort Hood fame from being viewed negatively.

And this detainee was one of the barbarians that butchered, mutilated, and displayed the mangled bodies of four Americans. If I were one of the SEALS, I would have shot out both of his kneecaps with my sidearm, so needless to say he got it very easy. This story really gets my blood boiling. This detainee clearly has no respect for human rights, is captured in a warzone, yet he is still protected? Poor baby has a bruised lip and the higher powers take this murderous sack of shit seriously? Damn them. They are traitors themselves.
Yes, they are traitors. Where did the officers in charge here, the ones who make the decision to prosecute these guys, go to school? What were they taught at school? How is it they don't respect their own troops?
I guess this is punishment for bringing the bastard in instead of leaving his bloody carcass beside the road.

If i am not mistaken one of the blackwater (now Xe) guards that were killed and hung from that bridge was a SEAL. I say they showed a ton of restraint for not airing out his head and if all he got is a busted lip... he got off easy.

Good god man! if i were these SEALS, i know what I would do after the trial...can't give too many details but i think EVERYONE knows what i am imagining!! Obama, you better step up to the plate on this one!

I think Obama already stepped up to the plate on this. I think this is his work.
Yesterday, a guy called in to the Rush Limbaugh Radio Show and claimed he was a Navy Seal and a friend of one of the Blackwater guys who was murdered by the Jihadists in Iraq. He claimed that everyone in the Military knows this is Obama's payback for the fact that the Military broke Obama's rules of engagement on the Maersk Pirate situation. Obama had ordered that we not engage, and the Military did anyway.
