Right. Born in Lebanon she's the daughter of Lebanese muslim immigrants. She's from Dearborn Michigan. She's smokin' and, unless I'm missing something, she's not wearing a burqa or hijab in any of these pictures. She attended Catholic school, is a Shi"ite muslim but her family celebrates elements of both muslim and christian faiths.

I hadn't seen that story. It my well be true but I'd like to see it from someone other than Schlusel or someone getting their info from her.

I agree. Who can really believe Schlussel, and she's the only source on this that I know of.
One day when I was being called a bigot for dissing Islam, the person said to me, I bet you're a follower of so and so and so and so and Debbie Schlussel. I didn't know who she was, so I googled her. From what I remember, her wiki page was pretty flattering. She has even been credited by the US gov't for helping to stop terrorist attacks. So why is she so controversial?
Also, she's Lebanese, so she may not be of Arab descent. Do we know that she is Arab?
They are such beautiful women, Middle Eastern women. I watched briefly, and she said that she had to hawk things to pay for the pagent. Do we know if this is true? If her parents are well to do and we can verify this, then she was lying. Also, how convienient, no? Like the fix was in? OK did a fantastic job of answering her Arizona question.
Oh, and, you all should keep her nekidness posted here as a permanent IBOTW.

I just finished watching the news on Ch2. It ended with a report on Rima Fakih... quoting Debbie Schlussel's blog!...
( I've commented over there earlier in the day on a completely different subject which you very well know is more than enough to set my blood on fire!..).
I don't buy the Hezbollah linkage as her life insurance... or divine protectors!... not even for the sake of the "Lebanese honor"...
I'm not going to bet my last $3 bill on her life! Not that the Hezbollah will wake off "The Big Satan's Beauty Queen" or scratch the "disgrace & blasphemy" from the face of the earth!

Hmm, why does it seem like the Miss USA can go from one end at one time can reject a socially Conservative woman...but not drop a woman whom happens to be a supporter of Hezbollah as Miss USA?
Am I missing something here? Did I just walked into the Twlight Zone? What would Perez Hilton say about the new Miss USA supporting Hezbollah? Hezbollah's overt promotion of Islamic law and its support for Iran?

Echoing mah29001, am I missing something here? The same "moderate Muslims" who won't be caught dead on the streets marching in support of America against their "extremist" Muslim "brothers and sisters" who stone women to death for "adultery" are just fine with a near-naked pole dancer on worldwide tv? Why do I think there's more of an undercurrent of triumphalism than assimilation here?

The girl herself is no more or less gorgeous than the rest of the contestants, and it will probably be a sign the Apocalypse is nigh if a Miss USA contestant ever answers a question intelligently. So why her?

Maybe it's just wondering what would be the reaction of the Muslim guys cheering her on if one of the "brothers" did decide to exact a bit of "Islamic justice" on this girl. If they are anything resembling real men, they will see to it that no harm comes to her, Islamic or not.

Rima is an excellent model for young Muslim girls. We should be pushing this image around the world. This will do more to undermine Islam than a thousand unmanned drones.
I'm serioius. This is cultural warfare. Let Muslims attack Rima ... and you know they will. Imagine when their daughters say "I want to be the next Rima."
Singing "girls just want to have fun" makes it hard to recruit for suicide missions. I consider this an opportunity given to us by media idiots. Their blunder--our gain.
