SO: THE BATTLE LINES ARE DRAWN.The government [INCLUDING OBAMA COUSIN PM RAILA ODINGA] is facing opposition from Christian churches, which have vowed to lead the ‘No’ campaign after talks to strike a deal on contentious issues in the new set of laws failed....... Christian leaders are also opposed to the retention of kadhi’s courts in the proposed constitution under Article 169 and 170, which limit their authority to disputes over personal status, marriage, divorce or inheritance, where all the parties are Muslims and agree to take the case to a kadhi.They have been joined in the ‘No’ campaign by a team of ODM leaders from the Rift Valley led by Higher Education minister William Ruto.Others in the ‘No’ campaign include Kaddu leader Cyrus Jirongo and Igembe South MP Mithika Linturi of Kanu.The proposed constitution was published last Thursday.
I HAVE A FEELING THIS ISSUE WON'T BE RESOLVED BY THE REFERENDUM OR THE COURTS.
ISLAMISTS RESPECT NEITHER.
I PREDICT A BLOODY SECTARIAN CIVIL WAR. IT MAY VERY BEGIN ON REFERENDUM DAY ON AUGUST.

If it does come down to a war, I hope the Islamists lose so badly that they wish they were never born! Seriously, if these religious fanatics were to win, they would tear the Kenyan constitution to shreds, as they would with our own constitution, if they could.
Frankly, I don't think Christians, anywhere in the world, have yet mustered the resolve to beat Muslims at anything.

I remember hearing about them doing so in Ethiopia a while back. But I'm having trouble finding anything on it, and the one page I did find caused a page to pop up that told me, it could harm my computer if I continued. So its not impossible.
I just wish I could find more on it, but I will keep looking.

I'm betting the Kenyan government will ultimately cave to the pressure. I've heard rumors that Raila Odinga was involved in promoting closer ties with Iran.

Not sure, but as I recall obummer was in Kenya campaigning for Odinga--so I guess that means that the US will send in the troops to defend Odingas muslims against Christains. Wow--we have really come a long way baby!

I can't imagine that we would do that, but then, I can't imagine a lot of things Obama has done, and yet he has done them.
Firstly, Odinga, prime minister, is a Luo, tribe #2 in Kenya. Kikuyu is tribe #1, they hate each other like poison. Some 100's of years ago the Luo tribe migrated to Kenya from the Muslim north near what is now Sudan, there are still Luo tribes in Sudan. The reason I point this out is that a lot of Luo, as Obama's father, are Muslim.
In the last election in Kenya, where Obama campaigned for his kinsman and distant relative, Odinga lost whereupon the entire Luo tribe went on a murderous rampage, hundreds died and 1000's are still internal refugees. This rampage only stopped when the winner of the election offered Odinga the post of prime minister. During the election Odinga made an agreement with the muslims on the coast that in return for their support he would help introduce sharia.
I very much suspect that this background is one of the reasons for this ruling. Someone is trying to force Odinga's hand, this time the Kikuyus are ready. Odinga is an ardent communist, his father studied in East Germany in the late 50's or early sixties and wanted to nationalize everything come independence, he was vice president then and fell out with Kenyatta over this issue.
As for Ethiopia, they have been at war with Islam for centuries, in the 1700's the nobles suspected the emperor of Islamic sympathies and promptly deposed him. Ethiopia, like Saudi Arabia or Israel has a different system for dating the years, their date is about 10 years behind ours, they started counting when the country became Christian. Since the time of mohammed they have been trying to convert Ethiopia, more often by brute force, war and conquest and whilst every country surrounding Ethiopia and the edges and coast of Ethiopia are muslim, the heart is solidly Christian.
