You know that freedom of speech and blasphemy thing?

United States Supreme Court building, Washingt...

On March 20, 1974, a juvenile began yelling at a saleswoman in a downtown Boston department store, calling her, to quote from a subsequent account of the incident, a "'f----- a-----' and the like." When a female security guard approached, the juvenile "continued his tirade, calling her, among other things, a 'f------ a------' and a 'f----- pig.'" When asked to leave, the youngster "gestured by raising the third finger of his hand, symbolizing what he was verbally expressing." The juvenile was finally removed from the store, but managed to return and resume his previous behavior. All told, his activities went on for some forty minutes, and were witnessed by more than a hundred shoppers. The juvenile was tried and convicted of being a disorderly person; on appeal, however, the state Supreme Court overturned the conviction, holding that it had violated the defendant's right to "freedom of expression" under the First Amendment to the United States Constitution.

This was upheld

Freedom of Speech is awesome. It is the beginning, the progenitor and keeper of all other freedoms.

Somehow, I don't think that was a free speech situation. My personal opinion of course. But he's in a business establishment, and those places have rules, especially if it's a private business. This isn't about what he said, but how he was saying it. He's yelling at people in a store, he's being disorderly. Disorderly conduct and free speech are two different things.

I've always wondered why swear words are swear words. Why are those words bad? No one has ever given me an answer. All I ever got was, "Because they are." That's a very unsatisfying answer.

it isn't free speech when it is a belligerent threat to others and an obvious threat to their well being.. ask Mr Smith or Mr Wesson. ...politely.

this was a threatening display of out of control mental illness.

I'm disabled, but if that asshole got in my face, i would politely ask him to go away and leave me be.. while retreating back wards as the law requires... then use my foot to make some Nut Butter, i would make sure his sort would not reproduce again....

i am buying a small video camera

something like that..

clip it on and tell them they are being recorded video and audio in my presence, 'please leave me alone,' 'i am in fear of my life.. this wont work out well for you if you persist... i am retreating as required by the laws of the state of Idaho..' and hope they get the point.. and may others learn from their failure if they dont.

The court decided it was free speech and I agree.

Free speech of the MOST OBNOXIOUS is absolutely, precisely and exactly the speech which must be protected.

Go figure out why.
